Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

The early morning this close to the sea had brought a heavy fog into the approaching city. Ornell was resting easily against the powerful neck and powerful shoulders of a steel dragon. He had been flying for a bit, unwilling to stop his flight for something as trivial as rest. She had slept where she was, her legs strapped to him making it imposable to fall. He had glided when he could but she could feel how tiered he was getting. He seemed to hearten at the site of the city and she felt she had been here before. She let the blur of the memory linger for a moment before dismissing it. She had slept badly, very badly. Strange dreams lingered in her thoughts and she wished she understood, but she didn’t, she couldn’t. She was no Goddess, not like Lady Era… but was that right? She didn’t know, it hurt to think. She let that go too as they began their decent over the sleepy city.

Valen was a good sized dragon now, not fully grown yet but that would take much longer then his quick growth from a hatchling. There was little space for him to actually land on the streets and it would take a few buildings to hold him. He turned about as he slowly descended, looking for a good place to stop. The library passed below and he smiled to himself. Perhaps Ornell would visit the library with him. Another turn and the docks were rushing below them, the many masts looking like naked trees rising out of the fog. That square… he turned again, moving swiftly past buildings as they flew up from the docks to the middle of Taras.

He flapped his wings to move to the side of a fountain that rested in the middle of the square. Back-flapping he slowed very quickly and for a breath seemed to hover for a moment before sinking to the ground. Ornell unhooked the straps around her legs and slid off his back as he had taught her to. It was then that she noticed that they had attracted the attention of more then a few of the cities inhabitants, including a good number of guards who now stood waist deep in the swirling mist. All assortments of pikes, spears and even a scattering of swords were directed at her and Valen. Her red eyes glowed with her own fire in the absence of one near. She then took it upon herself to ease the tension. She turned to Valen and smiled at him sweetly. She intentionally spoke common. “Thank you so much for the ride.” He took the hint and nodded to her, a dragon’s bow.

“It was my pleasure My Lady. Feel free to call on me should you need. Now I must take my leave.” He then crouched, spread his great wings wide, and leapt high in the air before flapping them once, twice, and he was gone. The mist swirled about them, her skirts stirred too. She paused to check her hair and turned to the guards, still brandishing their weapons, looks of uncertainty crossing their faces. They seemed to have been expecting this to be some sort of attack.

“Oh, hello. Do any of you know where I can find some breakfast? I’m famished.”

It was late for her to be waking, but Lehona raced down the stairs and into the streets, stopping for no more than a second to inhale the delicious scents that wafted through the air letting passersby know it was now time for breakfast. The scent did little to stir her from her sleepy state as she draped a light, blue colored shawl over her head and wrapped the rest around her shoulders. Shivering, she hid her hands inside for warmth, pulling it more tightly around herself as she hurried through the streets now. There was a slight fog this morning, making it more difficult to read the street signs, causing her to guess twice. This was proving to be more of an adventure than the innkeeper had first suggested. Lehona looked about at the large square, up at the buildings that surrounded her now, but none of them looked like a library.

Lehona felt her stomach twist as it turned over, empty. She could not remember having eaten anything the night before. She had been so tired that she had gone straight up to her room without having anything to tie her over. Suddenly, there were gasps all around her and she could hear a loud whooshing noise, but as her eyes searched for it's source she found nothing. That was until she looked up. From above, a large steel dragon hovered and then landed. The crowd began to scatter, scurrying to move out of the way of being crushed beneath this giant that intruded upon the city's peaceful morning routine.

The sight of the dragon was breathtaking. Lehona could barely believe her eyes and thought that she was still sleeping back in her room at the inn. For a few moments, Lehona just stood in the crowd with her mouth half open in shock and awe. Even though she was startled when armed guards rushed to pass her, Lehona could not move from the spot. The woman rider was so calm, as if this sort of thing happened all the time. She even joked about getting breakfast. This was no time for joking Lehona thought, a dragon had just landed in the middle of the city! And this was.. well this was certainly the time for breakfast, she remembered suddenly as her stomach let out a noisy argument.

It was a few minutes before anyone else moved, some of the watchers just stared while most were huddle into small groups as they whispered to one another. The guards moved forward, but moved back again as the dragon took flight once more and then turned to the woman who had been strapped to it's back. The sight of them in their confusion caused Lehona to smile and fight of back the urge to laugh out loud. They all appeared to straighten and look at one another. It was almost as if they couldn't decide what to do with her one way or another. Lehona studied the woman, her head fell to one side and the shawl slipped off her shoulder when she loosened her grip on it. Well she doesn't look all that dangerous. They are liable to keep her all day long if they take her in. The thought of just leaving to return to her search of the library teetered in her mind, but she was already carefully making her way by the others who were still watching until she was at the inner edge of the crowd that had encircled the dragon's landing.

"Where have you been? Breakfast is nearly over, we'll have to hurry to get a good seat now." Lehona smiled, more at herself than the stranger. This is insane she thought to herself, but the smile did not falter. Most of the guards had turned to look in her direction and in the back, there were two in hushed conversation. None of them had moved in to capture the woman and Lehona hoped that she would hurry before any of them changed their mind.

Ornell’s thoughts skipped from her plan of action, which was not working as well as she had hoped as the guards were not responding to her question, over to this new one that presented itself to her. The ring of people seemed to be stabilizing around her, imprisoning her in a way. What an annoying way to start her first major venture. She had a plan in mind, a goal. They didn’t seriously think she was some sort of threat, did they? Was she going to have to take up her case with the authorities? That would surely hinder her. What was she going to do then? Have to prove that she is a messenger of a Goddess and if they aren’t careful she will bring down the divine wrath on the city, turning it into a living inferno? She doubted that would go over well with anyone here.

“I’m so sorry, I was running so very late and probably wouldn’t have made it here today at all without the help of my dear friend.” Ornell said, waving her hand in the general direction that Valen had taken his leave. She started walking toward the stranger, reaching out her hand as if she was greeting a close friend. Upon reaching Lehona she grinned happily, mostly because she did see this as a way out of the difficulty the guards had presented. "Please lead on. We can’t be late!”

The guards had not even tried to stop her landing in quite a similar way in Cascadea. Was there more crime in Taras perhaps? Or perhaps it was just unusual for people to enter the city from the sky.

"We should thank him that you made it here so quickly then. And safe too! Come, get some food in you and we will catch up. You really should come by more often you know, and.." Her eyes grew wide when she noticed the cross looks coming from the Commander. He had not yet moved from his place, far behind Ornell, but he had folded his arms over his chest and was now glaring in their direction. Lehona was thinking so quickly, it was an amazement, if only in the back of her mind, that she actually formed complete thought. With her mouth slightly open, she flashed a sorry smile in his direction and shrugged a little before continuing on, but this time she almost sounded as if she were scolding her new friend. "And would you please not land your dragon in the middle of Taras the next time you come? Do you see what you have caused?! They were worried that you would be attacking the city!" Without another word, Lehona tightened her grip on the blue shawl, she reached down and took hold of Ornell's hand with her other only to receive an odd feeling sensation up to her wrist, which she ignored. Dropping her head into a slight bow toward the Commander, she did her best to look apologetic as she turned and dragged Ornell in the opposite direction through the sea of onlookers that had broken apart at such a mundane explanation.

It was much easier to find her way through the streets now as the fog had lifted from the morning, but it appeared to be a busy time of day. The streets were now filled with people going here and there which made it difficult to keep together with the dragon rider. Three times she had to let go of her hand and once she thought she lost her when they had been separated by a rush of people going in both directions. But finally, they made it back to the Song of Elves Tavern and Inn together where the familiar delicious scents of early morning warmed her on the inside as she stepped through the front door to the now crowded common room. Spying an empty table across the room, she motioned to Ornell and pointed to it, finally letting go of her hand and noticing that the odd sensation in her hand suddenly stopped. She ignored this too as she pushed back the shawl to reveal a head of long, ginger-colored hair and made her way to the unoccupied table.

"It is a surprise to me that they did not even try to stop us the entire way!" Gracefully, she fell into an empty wooden chair seemingly in awe of this mornings events, a giddy smile plastered all over her face that promised not to fade for some time. She felt so exhilarated, dodging the guards was not something she would say she did often, but it had felt so right that there was no other way she could imagine it now. Lehona sighed happily, clutching at her chest and looking around the room casually as she leaned back in her chair. Word had not yet spread this far into the city, so at least she could leave her new friend in peace. With every intention of speaking, Lehona opened her mouth, but instead shut it again as a plate of eggs, bacon and sausage passed by their table and for a few moments she looked very sad. She was remembering that she had not yet since sometime yesterday and was now very hungry. The library was to be her top priority today, but could she really do all her research on an empty stomach? Internally, she struggled with whether to leave now and search for the library or stay and have a spot of breakfast before beginning for the day. Without realizing it, Lehona had been biting her lips together causing a them to become a little sore. Turning to Ornell with the same giddy smile returning to her face she asked, "You don't mind if I join you for a bit, do you? It's the least we could do after what just happened, we wouldn't want them to think that we fibbed!"

Ornell didn't reply to the question about Valen. Her error had been pointed out to her with that friendly scolding. She knew dragons were powerful creatures. It was no wonder that the city would be up in arms over the arrival of one so unexpectedly in the middle of town. An error... She was in the wrong, and so was Valen. He was wise enough to defuse it by leaving at least.

She followed the woman who had corrected her mistake in silence through the throng of busy citizens. She found herself being lead to a tavern that she had not had a chance to visit last time she was here. She shivered involuntarily as she passed through the doorway, Lady Era's clostraphobea didn't bother Ornell too much as long as they were far apart. Her nightmares didn't bother Era so badly in turn either, but seemed much worse to Ornell. A trade-off...

Her hand was released and Ornell made her way over to the table indicated to her. She sat across from the woman, not yet knowing her name. She slipped into her chair in an almost self-conscious manner, sitting neat the front of the chair so that her small red wings did not bang against the chair's back. She folded her hands in her lap, never touching the table before her, and crossed her feet at the ankle as she tucked them under her seat. She waited a moment to compose her thoughts before her attention was brought back to the fact she was hungry also.

"Oh, feel free. By all means." she said, kindly enough, though no smile touched her face at all. "I apologies if my error in judgment has put you out in any way. I do thank you for your intervention. Please let me know if you have to face any consequences from your actions and I will rectify them as best I can.

"It would have been quite an interesting day if they had chosen to detain me though. That would be quite an explanation."
She smiled then, imagining herself explaining that she is the Avatar of the Goddess of Flames and what that means. Her slightly glowing eyes went back to the woman across the table from her. "Is there any way I can repay you for your kindness?"

((the muse will return, please forgive this))

"Well, we could start with a name." She said with small laugh. Lehona was not very good with introductions and often found that she missed them entirely which proved for a few awkward situations throughout her travels. The shawl slipped off her bare shoulders, showing the powdered blue straps of her day dress underneath as she leaned against her side of the table gently to study her companion curiously.

It was not every day that a dragon landed in a major city, her mind was already racing with wonderful fantasy stories about the rider and her journey here. It must be quite an extraordinary thing, she thought to herself as the fantasy became more magical in her mind and her large minty eyes adopted their familiar faraway stare.

A thin and pretty girl motioned toward their table that she would be there in just a few more minutes. This slight delay seemed to have angered Lehona's stomach back into conversation as it emitted a low growl in response, shaking her out of her own imagination. While her cheeks grew rosey, Lehona averted her eyes from Ornell, feeling slightly embarassed by the interruption.

"That's easily enough given." She said with a soft smile. She was beginning to feel a little more at ease at least. Perhaps she really had been spared the consequences of brining the guard to arms. Though it would have been easier to find the person she was looking for if she had gone with them... "I'm Ornell, Avatar of Lady Era. May I ask who you are?"

She had only been in this city months ago, before she... they? became a Goddess. She had not even known about the Goddess who protected this city, or that the name of that Goddess was one she already knew... She felt a fool when she had found out, so that was the main reason for her visit, but also... she had missed so much of the city. Surly she could stay around for a short time and simply look around.

Then a waitress came up to the table then. "Can I help you?"

"Yes, just a cup of tea for now. I'll think of more later I'm sure. Please take her order first though, I'm paying." Her slight smile vanished when she spoke to the waitress. Ornell let her gaze shift about the room then, suddenly wondering is anyone was watching or had over heard. She didn't know what to really expect, but she didn't want people expecting hand outs or something because of who she was. Did the waitress hear who she was? She blinked then, drawing herself up straight again and looking back at the woman across the table that she was now indebted to. Worry... she shouldn't worry. It solved nothing to worry after all.
