| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Okay, I'm pretty sure this is a little off question, but I was kind of curious. Lets say I wanted to use a wooden sword (A Bokken) instead of using an ordinary sword. Since I didn't see any in the shops, how would I go about acquiring one. I suppose I would have to buy a sword and transmute it into what I wanted, no? |

I would assume that for such a weapon you would acquire it through role-playing. Wooden swords are usually used for training rather than actual fighting. I would assume that as the weapon does not exist in shop you can recieve it through role-playing without having to purchase it. But, I suppose I am not an Administrator, so we shall see what they have to say. |

You did right by asking here first. I have been away for some time so I cannot say one way or the other. I will however give my opinion. Gregory Faust, it is not valid to point out that since a weapon does not exist in a shop that it can then be acquired through role-play. While this Bokken is harmless, one could create "The Harbinger of Doom" which grants it's weilding mighty powers. Using your logic, this weapon would be acquired through role-play since it cannot be found in the shop area. This is simply not true. The shops are in place both as a reward and as a form structure when it comes to items of value. Though the Bokken may not appear valuable to an experienced player, it has significant value to someone who is still training. In my opinion Acerbic, you would be safest if you simply asked for this Bokken at the sales counter. Offer an image if you have one available and a price at which you are willing to buy the item for. |

As I figured, Airie. And you're right, the Bokken isn't just some simple wooden stick that a mere child would play with. Once imbued, it can rival even that of cold metal and steel. Perhaps not in integrity, but grit and strength upon blows. Like persay I venture to imbue the bokken with a control winds or something of that sort. Not only would the hit do its damage, but it would create a knockback effect, which could still maintain an upper hand to the user. Which in my view would prove more dangerous than imbuing a blade. As far as strategies go, but as far as damage....it's a toss up. Depends on the user and the placements of the blows or the strength placed behind them. Because Bokken CAN shatter and break bones if hit right. But as it was stated, they're more of a training blade, not really meant to hurt and kill, but more so for blunt damage and skill training. Which kind of makes it interesting for me to use it. So, I'll just sit tight and wait on a final opinion on it, just to make sure. Not that I don't trust your opinion Airie. Just want to make certain.

Bokken were used to arm the "poor masses" during actual war in ancient Japan. Bokken, in the hands of a trained swordsman, are absolutely lethal. Samurai with bokken simply killed enemy samurai with the more expensive metal katana in order to procure a fancier looking weapon. In terms of actual combat, true edged katana were usually a status symbol, although their effectiveness is definately not in question. They were just extremely expensive back in those days due to mineral rarity and build time. More to the point: The usual approach to obtaining a weapon that is not explicitely listed in the shops is to order the closest item that corresponds to the one you want. If you want a bokken, you may order a sword from the shop. In fact, if you choose a sword as a starting weapon, that may be considered a bokken if you so desire (but you must choose, you may not use it as a normal sword and a bokken). This system is predominantly based on common sense. If you want a double ended sword, you would likely need to buy a total of two masterwork swords in order to create one modified sword. Buying a longsword will not give you a longsword of ice, but one could technically buy a flaming longsword and consider it an ice enchantment instead of a fire enchantment. It is important to list exactly what you intend on doing with the item if modifications are to occur. Of course, the final say on this is up to the shop moderators. For them, it is important to keep in mind that if an order sounds particularly unreasonable, don't fill it until something can be worked out. |
