Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

The new skills are here! Took quite a bit of writing, but I think overall it will be worth it and is the first of several more major updates to come in the following weeks.

This may also be the most difficult to convert. Prestige Classes are going to need updating, and the Flaws for Skills transfer may be put onto hold again.

Say hello to the new skills at the link below. It contains all of the pertinent information on how the new skills work and gives you a good outline on how the Skill Levels work.

[Imythess Character Skills, v2]

Take a moment to read it over, then come back here and feel free to post any questions about the new rules regarding skills. Also included in this topic is a full conversion system so that you can update your current skills more easily.

Skills Conversion

Culled/Altered Skills

Not all of the old skills made it through the culling. Some of them have been entirely removed, but most of them have been simply converted into a more generalized skill, such as Great Agility and Tumble have become a single skill called Acrobatics.

If you wish, you may take this time to choose entirely new skills, instead of choosing altered versions of your old skills. This may be done for converting your skills from the old Skills to the new Skills.

Here is the entire list of converted/removed skills.

  • Great Agility
Converted into the new skill, Acrobatics.
  • Intuit Direction
Removed as a skill. May be added as a new Feat.
  • Move Silently
Converted into the new skill, Stealth.
  • Pick Pockets
Converted into the new skill, Stealth.
  • Swim
Converted into the new skill, Athletics.
  • Tumble
Converted into the new skill, Acrobatics.
  • Ambidexterity
Removed, may be added as a new Feat. Can be replaced with Two-Weapon Fighting.
More Time = More Experience

People who have been members on Imythess longer would have had more time to train and hone their skills, giving them higher skill levels than the default of one Novice and one Adept skill.

Here is a chart determining what levels older members may have for two of their current skills.

Edit: The date with which you use to determine your experience level is the date you joined Imythess. You can see when you joined Imythess by looking just beneath your avatar.

Well, I suppose I'll be the first to ask the first question. Now, since the skill level will reflect upon the join date. Soooo, is that when the member, meaning me ooc joined or when Acerbic my character itself was added to the Imythess roster of characters?

It depends on when the account was created. Just below your avatar it reads:

It is that date that determines what skill levels you begin with.

That's actually a pretty cool way to work out the leveling system, kudos! ^_^

Well, it wasn't really specified completely. And I've seen times where people would try to tweak or bend things around to get a little advantage here and there. So, I was trying to a draw out a more direct description of what you meant. Because as a "member" you're apart of something. It can apply to both ic and ooc in whatever case. Technically I was a "member" in 03 when I joined imythess OOC. But as an IC, it varies with my characters, but yes of course it's an enhancement for the character itself, but you get people that try to use that stuff against you. So I''m just trying to help out and save some headaches along the way. =)

Thanks for pointing that out, I'll go and edit it so it is more clear. :)

*raises hand* I have some questions!!!

I'm probably over thinking this a bit... You have been warned!

First of all is the fact that I started AD in 2006 with four skills and three flaws. So I don't exactly have two skills and I don't think it would be fair to have one Journeyman skill, one Adept skill, and having to have the rest of them all Novice when I made her with them to begin with. I also don't think it is fair to give me two of each either, as that seems a bit power hungry to me...

So what I really want to know is if I can have 1 Journeyman(lv.4) skill, 2 Adept(lv.3) skills, and my last one being an Apprentice(lv.2), the fifth skill was bought later and I don't have any problem with that being Novice(lv.1). I would of course keep the three Flaws I have, but I don’t want to rewrite her more then I have to.

Example:

Skills:
Lv. 4 Stealth (instead of Move Silently)
Lv. 3 Acrobatics (instead of Great Agility)
Lv. 3 Brawl (instead of Weapon Focus: Dagger)
Lv. 2 Listen (instead of Knowledge: Wilderness)
Additional Skill:
Lv. 1 Escape Artist (stays the same)

My biggest question is actually about the PrC Shadowdancing, though I think there are other PrCs that are effected by this chage. I haven't looked yet.

Quote:

Shadowdancer
Shadowdancers are escape artists and masters at staying hidden. They use shadows to their advantage and even to disappear completely. They rarely take a fight head on, preferring stealth over brute strength.
Requirements to become a Shadowdancer:
· Skill: Move Silently Stealth
· Skill: Escape Artist
Level One - The Shadowdancer's first supernatural skill is having the ability to seem to hide in plain sight as long in shadows. They cannot hide in their own shadow and they cannot move while in this state, but while they are, they are practically invisible.
Level Two – They become very evasive, good at avoiding attacks and being seen until the moment they want to be seen. ((would this be like gaining a new skill or just be like a +1 level of Stealth or something?)) They also gain the ability to see in the darkness.
Level Three - At this level, the Shadowdancer can create illusions out of shadows. The illusions are dark and can be shaped in any way, but they cannot make any bodily contact. They can make noise.
Level Four - As the Shadowdancer begins to reach their maximum strength, they gain an ability known as a slippery mind. They are immune to mind control spells and can hide themselves from not only visual detection, but also mental and magic detection. They also become better at avoidance. ((would this be like Acrobatics or Escape Artist? Would this also be like a +1 level to a skill? I’ve used it a bit like an extra boost to my Great Agility in threads before…))
Level Five - Now the Shadowdancer can actually teleport between shadows. They do not need to see the place they are teleporting to, the place only must have shadows and they have been to it before.

Oh this is confusing, now I have to go through and redo some stuff

A few things:

1. You have a Feat and a Skill called "Track"

2. The Skill "Marksman" seems to conflict with the Feat "Precise Shot"

3. Does the same concept of levels apply to Feats?

Yes, there are currently a couple of conflicts with the feats and new skills. This will be updated ASAP, as I am currently working on an updated feats list as well. They will not be going through quite as much of a change as the skills, but they will be rewritten and a there will be quite a few new ones.

Feats do not have levels and never will, as far as I can see.

Aether, you bring up a couple of good points. One of the things the skills update affects most is the PrCs, and they too will be edited and overhauled so that they are compatible with the new system. Right now my main focus is to get the basic system up and running, but updates are coming for the whole shabang. :)

You may keep all of your current skills, but only 2 will have the higher levels.

... I don't think I like that... It throws Aether Draka's skills so out of whack... *thinks it over for a long time*

Alright, can I (after placing one skill as Journeyman and one as Adept) go to the shop and sell back the Journeyman level (at 100 gold) for two Apprentice levels (at 50 gold each) to apply to my other two skills at the Novice level? That would drop the Journeyman level down to an Adept instead; as I would never have leveled her up like that and I don't have the gold on me to fix it (the 100 I have being for the guild).

I actually have a fairly simple question.

I have two skills that would be converted into "Stealth", these two being "Pick Pocket" and "Move Silently".

Do I combine those two to make a Lvl 2. Stealth skill, or is one void and I just get a Lvl 1. skill?

Yes! Yes, over here! I have a queation!

Yes, thank you. My question is this, does the whole 2 skills and one flaw still apply?
Also, if the whole more flaws, more skills thing? And if so, would they come in level 1?
