Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Yamarle Chandros stood at the edge of the of the place he knew so well, the place he had lived all his life, and walked a million times before. He stood facing down a path leading out of the town of Kellen, the town he had sightlessly explored and memorized every part of. In the pocket of his tattered clothes were a few gold pieces, surrounding his body and clothes was a new robe, his gift to keep him warm on his journey.

He stared out toward the world ahead of him, the high noon sunlight burning down, clearly illuminating the path. As Yamarle looked ahead, he saw eternal blackness, as he always did, no matter the amount of light in the sky. Yamarle heard footsteps padding along the dirt path behind him, recognizing the tone, and feeling the familiar arm of his father wrap around his shoulders, clapping him on the shoulder. "Are you sure you want to do this son?" Yamarle's father asked his son, knowing Yamarle could hold his own, but couldn't help but worry, a blind man going into a strange new world always had a serious disadvantage.

Yamarle responded with a nod, and a short vocal response. "Yes father. I need to try and make a life of my own. You have taught me everything I could need to learn. Now it is time for me to prove to myself, that I can do it. If I need you, or anything, I will return." Yamarle assured his nervous father.

Yamarle gripped tightly onto the long, wooden stick that he used to guide himself, to avoid hitting anything unmoving, that he couldn't observe. His large, slightly rusty two handed sword, was clipped onto his best, sheathed, and ready for him just in case he needed to use it. A cool breeze floated past him, forcing his slightly tangled straw blonde hair to waft a bit, before settling down, in the same disorderly place that it had been previously. His newly attatched robe fluttered around him, billowing out, before dying down, and settling around him.

"May the gods keep you safe, my son." Yamarle's father blessed his blind son, removing his hand from the younger man's shoulder. "Goodbye father, I will keep in touch, somehow. You will hear from me again." The blind man reasured, slowly starting down the beaten dirt path, leading him out of his home town, and into the world unknown. His stick beating softly on the path in front of him, ensuring his path was clear. Yamarle heard the faint sound of an almost silent screech, of the gate at the edge of the city, alerting Yamarle that he had just reached the edge of the city, now starting toward unfamiliar territory, humming a soft tune as he slowly walked.

AD was supposed to be in Taras, in the library. She had a book that she really should return there, as she took it without asking. She as needed to read more on magic. She needed to learn how to summon a demon. Not any demon though, but a Demon Prince. She was stalling though, resistant against meeting her Grandmother once again. That demon wanted her soul, had marked her, and she was afraid. Afraid that she would not be the one in control once the demon showed.

Aether Draka didn’t want to have Imythess lain to waste too. So instead she was testing herself, her limits, and her speed. She didn’t think she was smarter then the demon though. She had already been fooled before. So she just had to be faster and to knw how far she could go. Starting in Taras, AD had come as far as she could North now, at least as far as her newest shadow to shadow teleporting power could take her.

She had yet to cross the open expanse of grass and then sand that was needed to get to the mountains. She wanted to see the mountains though, but crossing all of that open space on her own was not something she was willing to do. She was forest elf enough to thrive in the woods, but there were so few shadows in that open land. It seemed rather unnatural, ominous in a way. She couldn’t even use the ability now, not with the sun up and no trees to cast shadows. There was the city though and it was by the walls that she had hidden in what would have been plain sight. She was a shadowdancer though, and now she could hide from all senses, even magical. In the shadows, she was safe.

It was then that she saw an interesting man. She wasn’t quite sure why she thought of the man an interesting. It was just how he struck her. Curiosity bidding her forward from the wall she started to walk after him, thankful for the distraction. It wasn’t like she couldn’t come back to explore the city at a more opportune time, like night. She moved nearly silently, as was quite natural for her to do, but as she wasn’t really attempting to be quiet she also was not completely silent. She picked up her pace upon reaching the dirt path. She was still a bit behind him then, as she had also not left the shadow cast by the wall until she had to.

Not daring to look back in fear of being recognized from her last little venture here, she half jogged in order to catch up. As she got closer she realized that it was probably the humming that had caught her attention. She wondered about the tune, wondered if it was familer or not. She didn’t know… Before she reached the man, she called out. She had something besides the tune that she wanted to know first.

“Sir! Pardon me, but, if you don’t mind me asking, where are you heading to?”

Yamarle continued to stroll along, his stick clunking on the ground in a rythmic pattern, giving an interesting harmonious beat to the soft flutist tune that he hummed quietly. The tune wasn't really a special one, to anyone but Yamarle, but it always brought back the memories of him as a young boy, and even a young man, much as he was that day, sitting underneath a homemade awning, listening to the soft, wonderful music that came from the flutist, but to Yamarle, seemed to come from the eternal darkness he constantly saw. It was a way for the blind man to dream. Although he had never actually seen anything, and didn't know what anything, or anyone looked like, the music stimulated his mind, and painted him a picture of what he thought the world looked like. Taking everything he was ever told, what a tree looked like, a person, an animal, the sun, anything, his brain created a picture of what he would never see, but made him happy, to know he wasn't as disabled as he could be. His pictures, however, were often very innacurate, and as he described them, he was told so, but he didn't care. It just gave him comfort that he could see....something.

Humming this soft tune, Yamarle saw the familiar shapes in the back of his brain, and it made him smile a happy smile of rememberance. The song also made him happy, reminding him of the happy times, times as a boy when he was finished with his chores, and was able to happily sit and eat an extra piece of cheese, or even a fresh cooked slab of meat and a small cup of milk if he was lucky, and bathe in the sun, listening to the songs of the flutist, his favorite always being the one he always hummed.

Letting his senses wander, Yamarle tried to check his senses, to see if he was alone. It was still relatively warm, with just a slight breeze from time to time, no real change. He hadn't entered a city, for there was no significant change in smell in the air, a city would have brought new smells, other than crisp air and fresh grass. At first check, he couldn't hear anything too different, but, training his sharpened hearing senses closely, Yamarle heard the faint clopping sound of a pair of soft feet, treading lightly on the ground, and approaching quickly. With each beat, the sound of the feet approached a bit, getting just a bit louder, as they got closer. At first it was difficult to hear, but he was able to determine eventually, that it was a pair of feet, belonging to a human being, or something similar.

The only signs that Yamarle gave that he recognized the newcomer, was that he stopped his soft humming, and quit progressing down the road of packed dirt. He drew his walking stick to his side, and stood motionless, waiting for the stranger to approach, or acknowledge themself. Though it might have seemed rude to an outsider, for Yamarle not to turn and face the person he now knew was aproaching, but for a blind man, it was useless. Why turn around to face them, when you could not see either way? Eventually, the approaching figure would see that, and understand.

Then, the approaching stranger spoke to him, revealing themself as a woman, by the sound of her voice. It was obvious, at the quietness of her footsteps, that she was well trained in hiding herself, and had she been trying harder, Yamarle might not have identified her. But he pushed that thought behind him. What made him ponder next, was the question that she spoke to him. Where was he going? Yamarle realized, that he didn't actually know. He did know that when he had gotten there, completed his goal, that he would know it. But, he planned to visit many places before he ever settled somewhere. "To be honest, I'm not exactly sure that I know. I suppose that I am just heading wherever I can find direction, I suppose." He pondered, more to himself than to the stranger. "Please, allow me to ask you the same question. Where are you heading to?" The blind man asked, keeping his focus ahead, staring off, aimed at the path ahead, staring at the eternal darkness he was cursed to constantly face.

As soon as she was in the sunlight she started to feel uncomfortable again. She was very glad when she caught up with the stranger. Looking at him she saw that he wasn’t likely to be a target for thieves, not dressed in such simple and well worn clothing. She on the other hand wasn’t quite as simplistic. She was dressed in dark rich colors. A black blouse and loose fitting wrap-around pants, a maroon suede bodice and black winged boots on her feet. She also had a black leather belt around her waist with a mismatched pair of daggers at her side. She had no coin pouch though, but instead a simple dark green backpack was on her back. She could possibly be a target for thieves, if she wasn’t one herself. It wasn’t her profession though, and she hadn’t a need that required that skill.

No, she wanted to go to the mountains and that required someone bigger then her to go with her so that she had a shadow, besides her own, to travel with. Her powers were based of shadows after all and it was hard to call on them if you can’t find any. Most of her own powers didn’t work with her own shadow anyways…

"To be honest, I'm not exactly sure that I know. I suppose that I am just heading wherever I can find direction, I suppose."

That statement struck her as a bit odd, but not the way he was acting. She didn’t notice right away though. All she really noticed was that he stopped humming. She hadn’t heard that from many people and it was the way she herself had been traveling. She grinned, deciding that she liked this man. He then returned the same question to her and she was even happier. That meant she could ask another question of him!

“Well, I was hoping to go across the desert to the mountains, as I’ve never been there before and I thought it would be interesting. I just really don’t want to go by myself. Do you want to go that way?”

((OOC: mmm. A bit short... Are his eyes closed or open?))
