Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Back in Taras, for better or for worse. AD had drifted through the streets with the crowds for most of the day, not really ready to go to the Library first thing. She had come here to go there, but now that she was actually here she couldn’t actually do it. Not yet anyways. So she wandered around in hopes of finding a distraction. It was late evening by the time she found herself at the docks. Her curiosity soon drew her to a small group of about six or so people. Most were men, but at least two women were there. They were in a loading dock, with crates and boxes about them. A few barrels serving as seats. As she approached there were the sounds of laughter and a bit of good natured teasing.

They were rolling tiny and rather unusual looking bits of stone on the ground. AD drifted closer as she saw them call out as the stones were rolled and then, if they guessed right there were grins and congratulations. If the guess was wrong they passed around a bottle of a clear liquid that smelled a bit sweet to her. Fully intrigued by this game she joined the group, sitting atop a barrel herself for a bit as she tried to figure out how the game worked.

There were three different little rocks. Each one was a different shape. One looked like a simple coin, but it was a flattened rock. One side was 1 and the other 2. The second one looked like a badly made stone caltrop. It was numbered up to four, one number for what ever point was up. The third was the hardest to guess, as it was numbered up to six and looked like a little box.

One man picked up the rocks and put them in a cup. He looked at the man across from him with a raised eyebrow. The man shouted out, “Evens!” and the man with the placed his hand over the lip of the cup , shook it, and dumped it out for all to see. 2, 3, and 3. He was passed the bottle and took a swig. Then it was someone else’s turn.

“Even.” a woman who looked like a barmaid said sharply. The man with the cup repeated his little ritual. 1, 4, and 2. Cheers went around and she was given the cup with the rocks in it.

“Ya ever play dice?” The man next to her leaned over and asked in her ear, the bottle in his hand. She shook her head and the man grinned. “Just watch then. Feel free to join whenever you want.”

“What are you drinking?” AD asked the man.

“’tis Fire Water my girl! Best in the land.” The bottle was then snatched out of his hand and the man who had apparently just lost downed some of the ‘Fire Water’ and the next round began.

Dmitri sat quietly at the corner of the quay, swaying back and forth drunkenly as he watched the waves. It has been a great night so far, a great night, a night of fun and excitement and women… he thought. Three of the small bottles of “fire water” later, and he was only vaguely aware of the rest of the world around him. He strummed a few chords experimentally on his harp, feeling the taut gut under his fingers. The fire water filled his senses, and he began to play.

“There was three kings into the east,
Three kings both great and high,
And they hae sworn a solemn oath
John Barleycorn should die.”

He slurred his words, coughed and swayed dangerously far forward. The waters below looked dark and cold, and he was in no state to swim. He stood up, slowly, and stumbled back down the quay towards the warehouses. Besides a pile of boxes, some of the sailors and movers were playing the game they called “evens.” He’d never been able to figure out what kept people fascinated with the game. There was a newcomer to the regular crowd of drunks, a cute girl with thick, wavy wine-colored hair. She was sitting with Regulus, watching the game.

“They took a plough and plough'd him down,
Put clods upon his head,
And they hae sworn a solemn oath
John Barleycorn was dead.”

He leaned in to the girl and smiled, the alcohol rushing to his brain and cutting off his common sense.

“Hey there, gorgeous. What do you say you and me drink a little bit more and get to know each other better?”

Sophitia had been walking along the docks, enjoying the water. The breeze that always accompanied large bodies of water blew through her chestnut hair. She ran her fingers through her hair a bit and took a deep breath, trying to find an escape from her problems.

That is when she heard the laughter of a group of sailors. She made her way there slowly, watching the game they where playing. It seemed that it was a guessing game. Sophie laughed to herself. She remembered when she was young the guessing games her and her sisters would play. She would always win, using her scrying power to her advantage.

She walked up and stood amongst the fun spirited group, watching the next roller. The man called out " Evens!" and the other man shook the stones, before letting them fall out of the cup " 1-4-3" The man who guessed wrong took a swig out of the bottle before passing it along.

Sophie walked up " Oh this looks like fun, mind if i play." The woman with the bottle smiled " Sure, take my turn hun" She handed Sophie the bottle. She took in and looked it over. The man collected the dice " So odds or evens?"

Sophie pretended to ponder for a second. Actually she was concentrating on the small hand mirror that hung off her waist. She looked at it, trying to scry the results. She had been using this skill all her life and it didn't take her more than a minute. In the mirror a scene played out. She seen the stones roll out on the crate and she took a mental note of the numbers 2-1-6. To everyone else the mirror just showed their reflection.

She looked back up at the crowd with a coy smile " Evens...." The man nodded and threw the stones out on the table. They rolled for a bit, but when they stopped the man read off the numbers " 2-1-6" The crowd cheered and Sophie passed the bottle. She got satisfaction out of being the only one in on her secret skill.

((OOC: I sure hope he didn’t have two small bottles of “Fire Water”! It’s 151 proof Vodka! They are just taking shots of it from the bottle… And sorry this one has to be a bit short, I got to go to work!))

Aether looked over at the man who had just leaned against her with a questioning look on her face. When he spoke next she nearly drew her dagger on the man. She didn’t like drunks and because of that she also avoided taverns. This man must have been kicked out of one and was drawn to the sounds also. She shoved him away and stood up to move her way into the crowd. She didn’t bother looking back. She was more interested in the game anyways. She found the bottle in her hand then and the man with the dice looked up at her.

“Even or Odds?”

AD was a bit surprised, but the best way to learn something was to try it, right? “Um… Odds?” The dice rolled onto the cobblestones and she looked over at them. 2, 4, 1. She shrugged slightly and drank some of the “Fire Water” before passing the bottle on to whomever wanted it next. The drink was sweet and clear, but she soon understood why it was called Fire Water. It burned on the way down and made her feel rather odd, a warm fuzzy feeling.

Dmitri stumbled as the woman shoved him aside and moved away from the game of Evens. He landed on his backside heavily, and even through the thick haze of liquor he could feel some pain from the jagged cobblestones impacting against his tailbone. Standing up slowly, bracing himself against the nearby boxes for support, he rubbed his posterior and checked his harp. He hadn’t landed on it, thankfully, but he needed to be more careful. If it broke, he’d have to go to a specialist to fix it, and he didn’t have nearly enough money for that. He looked at the glass bottle in his hand, and uncorked it. The burning scent of high alcohol content grain spirits filled his senses, and he raised the bottle to his lips for another swig.

In the darkness, he noticed the huddled mob around one of the games of Evens. The crowd started to cheer, and he noticed the girl who had just won the round. She had the most remarkable hair, even in the candle light, a rich brown with naturally blond streaks running through it. He shook himself, and walked over to the waterfront. Getting down on his hands and knees, he managed to reach in and get a handful of ocean water. Dmitri splashed himself in the face, and the cold, salty water brought a little sense back into him. He moved over to the crowd, and sat down along one row of boxes as the others played. He’d never been lucky enough for games of chance—left-handed at birth, a cursed child—but he could enjoy the simple contentment of the people. He took the bottle of Fire Water he’d been carrying, and handed it to his neighbor, a sailor. The sailor took a swig, coughing at the burning rush of alcohol, and Dmitri motioned for him to pass it around the circle. He pulled out his harp, strummed a chord or two, and began to play as the onlookers drank.

Food and a bit of ale in the tavern had gone a long way to making her feel better, if not less broody. She'd slung the pack over her shoulder again and taken up her staff, which was currently used as a walking stick. Still the Genesai looked tired, as if the fire had burned out of her, so to speak.
She had decided to go to the docks for nothing more than some peace and quiet; perhaps a word or two with the gulls. It was the only place inside the city to commune with nature, at least in limited ways. So, thus, she wandered through the alley ways and streets, winding her way toward the water.
When she arrived, it wasn't the placid sound of calling gulls that she heard, but the rancous laugther of drunken men. Mixed into that sound was the laughter of a woman or two as well. She paused a moment, those dark brown eyes swinging toward the sound. She crinkled her nose a little in distaste. Oh, it wasn't that she had an issue with the drinking or the games...it was just that they were there, intruding upon her quiet time and her brooding.
Well, it has to be better than the gulls....
She moved toward the boisterous crowd, her footsteps covered by the laughter and chatter. She sought to blend in, moving up behind a small crowd of spectators and positioning herself to see over their shoulders. She pressed in just a little, interested (yes, actually interested) in the game being played. She watched as the dice were passed around, evens or odds called, and the bottle passed shortly after. Her gaze flickered to those ringing the circle and throwing the dice, drinking each face in quietly.
With the energy in the air, it was hard to remain so tired and desolate. Her spirits rose just a little. Enough to tolerate others close to her, and the sound of the crowd. Soon she found herself close to the circle, near the front of the spectators. She avidly drank up the scents, sights and sounds of them all. She breathed deeply, appreciating the mingle of stale sweat, alcohol and salty sea water.
She'd only been vaguely aware of the bard, her attention focused upon the game itself. Yet, the sound of the harp began to invade her senses...a subtle twisting of notes upon the air. The tune was quite pleasing, even to one in as dour a mood as she. Invariably, that chocolate gaze lifted to drink in the harpist. She studied his fingers as they strummed over the taut strings; the motion of his hand as he manipulated the instrument. For long moments, she simply stared.

((OOC: I wonder if anyone really gets why I called this thread Fire Water...))

The drink, any drink, worked quickly on Aether Draka. Her tolerance for alcohol, on a scale of one to ten, with ten being the best, is a two if she's lucky. A single glass of wine or something similar is usually all she can handle. Luckily for those around her, she's happy when she's drunk. She won’t be upset about getting drunk until later. She knows her tolerance and hates being drunk because she feels like she made a fool of herself. Recovering from it is so very hard for her, as she is incapable of passing out or simply sleeping it off.

For now though, she simply became more enthralled in the game, giggling some as she tried to guess again, not caring if she was right or wrong. The game didn’t register, the dots on the dice held no meaning, but they booed so she took another drink and the bottle went on. Somehow she saw there was now a second bottle in the mix and she found herself cheering as someone won a round. There was a loss, another win, and she soon lost track, or perhaps it was she only failed to keep her attention on them. She had the bottle shoved at her again and she guessed at random. Cheers broke out and the bottle was moved around as she felt someone patting her shoulder and congratulations rang through the air.

AD was grinning, she was having fun and she had yet to notice that she was drunk. When the bottle came round again she noticed a woman standing not too far away from where AD had perched on a crate. The crate was also full of the ‘Fire Water’ though she hadn’t noticed that yet. She shoved the bottle into the woman hands and with a silly grin on her face asked, “ ’ello! Would you like to try ‘n’ guess? Odd or Even?”

Silently moving towards the center of the crowd he says to himself "Stupid uncivalized pests this one should just start killing them rihgt now, this one should start with the one with the ugly hand mirror". Looking at the one with the hand mirror Kenshin gripped his katana and droped into his fighting stance and got ready to attack.

"Snake eyes."

The man with the dice blinked, turning his head toward the newfound voice, his eyes registering with surprise. There was no "odds or evens" about this one, instead, he was going all out. As he turned to look, as did a few others in the ground, all of their eyes settled on a single being. A young man with a heck of a grin on his face, blue eyes sparkling with mischief, teeth shining brightly in compliments to the grin he was giving.

"So, in other words, I am guessing that would be a call for "Even"? Although, I bet my entire purse agaisnt your five gold pieces that it will hit the snake eyes."

The crowd was quieting a bit as they finally took in this bet, a few burps and hiccups heard around the gathering as some of the more heavily drunk ones tried to gather themselves. Xendral randomly grabbed a bottle of the vodka from one of the people sitting near him, and took a sniff of it, and then a sip. He almost immediately started coughing and hacking up his lungs, shoving the bottle back to the owner almost as quickly as he had snatched it. He was another one of those folks, much like AD, that couldn't handle achohol very well at all. It was just the way he had been born, but he had never really craved the stuff. His weakness was for women, not spirits.

The gambler with the dice was quietly considering this bet, and finally, he let out a whoop and a grin and accepted, hurling his dice in the air. Cheers and screams went up as the dice came down, spinning around wildly. Every eye was on the two white squares as they finally came to a stop, resting on two ones. With that, the area erupted into hoots and hollers, the dice man giving up a begrudging smile of respect and handing over five gold coins. Xendral reached out and snatched them up, smiling his head off, dumping them into his purse.

"It was empty to begin with anyway."

More people erupted into laugher as they realized Xendral hadn't made a bet, he had pulled off a pretty smart stunt.

"Snake eyes."

AD looked up an the man who spoke then, before she knew it, the bottle was not in her hand anymore. She subsided momentarily into a very confused silence. What did this game have to with snakes? Were their any around here? Snakes were good to eat…

She shook her head, though that didn’t do a thing to clear it and instead the entire dock seemed to spin about her. Blinking a few times it seemed to subside. She brought her attention back to what was going on around her and they rolled the dice again. She found herself bumped against and without really thinking about it, moved out of the way. Once on her feet the world tipped and pitched. She found this hilarious and started to giggle. It was almost like some crazy flying or something. She put her arms out and promptly fell into a heap on the ground, Surprised, the giggles stopped for a moment and she sat back up. The docks were still spinning and she wavered back and forth for a bit and started to giggle again.

After a moment, when she saw that the crowd was gathering around the man who had said snake eye, the giggles subsided again. She got slowly to her feet, a bit wobbly but back on her feet. She made her way over to the stranger and catching his sleeve in order to get his attention. It also served as a way for her to not fall into him, which she almost did. AD was driven by her curiosity to find out the answer to a very, very important thing. It was something she just needed to know, right now if possible, so she asked him a single vital question.

“What’s snake eyes?” Aether Draka asked cheerfully, more cheerfully then she would have intended, if she had intended anything. She was still blissfully unaware of the fact she was incredibly inebriated. If she knew it, she would be incredibly upset with herself.
