The morning air was thick with fog, and the trees and ground were covered in morning dew. Above in the sky the sun peaked over the eastern mountains, showing a protecting ray of light. In the woods of Spiderhaunt animals started to come alive. Squirrels of the trees scattered to find new nuts to bring to their homes while birds lazily sung their songs. Clouds dared not to ruin the day by casting themselves aside for another time when the earth would need their rain. Not a sound stirred through the forest, except for the occasional bird chirp or running of water, from streams. In the distance a crouched figure moved through the woods silently. Not a twig snapping, or leaf crackling. The fog's air covered him like a cape making him all the more invisible. His hands were clenched around what seemed to be a branch, but on closer inspection one would be able to see another object on it. An arrow. The man's clothes were baggy, but green helping him blend more in the brush and his head hardly bobbed as he moved from tree to tree, bush to bush. Every few minutes he would pause, not a limb moving while his blue eyes scanned the land around him. Then after seconds he would start off again running. Some villagers from the forest town knew this man as Mataza. A named created to tell of his killing ways. All who entered the forest would receive a warning just as they entered. Most of times it would be an arrow land short of where they were, and if the intruder would not leave immediately the next shot would mean death. None had seen his face before, for he had a cloth like material wrapped around his nose and mouth. Any who did leave the forest before their death told other of him. Some made up stories of him being a large creature lurking through the darkness while others thought of him as a forest spirit, protecting it's forest. Whatever the tale all knew that the Mataza killed all who intruded upon his land. His real name was Maroth, given to him by his mother. Who had made him leave his home at the age of 37, a young age for elves. Ever since he had left home he had always stayed in or near forests. They served him with protection and food and any other needs he had. It was his real home and he made an oath to himself to preserve it, and protect the forest even if it meant his life. |

A soft breeze whistled throughout the trees in the forest on this fine day. The sun just barely shed its rays through the thick canopy overhead. A sparse clearing seemed to glow with holy light. The animals even seemed to be perked up by this weather. An occaisionaly squirrel's tail poked up after it skittered up a nearby tree trunk. One of these squirrels was the ever present Venorik. He was a mahogany colored red squirrel that often accompanied Meera. Meera did not travel far behind. Her hand traced lightly along the tree trunks while she strode, keeping a jade eye on Venorik. He was the only one who had bothered to stay with her on this day in the forest. The others she had simply left in a clearing a ways back. They were not the early waking sort and preferred to bask in the sun that warmed them. With a chuckle, Meera bit her lip and withdrew her hand from the trees. Picking up the pace, she jogged a bit until she was closer to Venorik again. He had a tendancy to wander. Finally wanting to stop, Meera reached out and grabbed the squirrel's tiny form. He let out a small sigh but relaxed in her hands. Meera transferred him to one hand and let him scrabble up to her shoulder as she ran a hand back through her hair. Meera had a rather small fram unlike some other people she had seen. At a height of only 5'10, others were taller than her. Her weight mostly consisted of muscle. She prided herself in being able to hold her own with the male species. A half-elven brood, Meera had teltale pointed ears that were sometimes covered by her light brown hair. The one feature that seemed to stick out on her body though, were the large white wings growing gracefully from her shoulder blades. They were tucked into her back right now, but had a large wingspan when needed. Many thought she was a celestial, but that was not the case...or so she thought. She was indeed infused with a celestial, but she did not know that her grandmother was an angel, making her 1/4 one. There were few things that Meera did not know about her past, and that was one of them. With a yawn, Meera streached both her arms and wings out to the side. Her wings softly brushed against the trees, but that was the only discomfort she felt right now. Her open mouth collapsed to a thin line as her heart felt that something wasn't right. There was something else here. Quickly, she closed her wings back into her body and bent her knees, allowing her to react quicker if needed. Turning her face to Venorik, she jerked her chin upwards, signalling to him to go up in the tree to tell her if he spied anything. He scrambled quickly. Upon turning back to her, he didn't have to say anything, but Meera could tell that there was definitely someone else here. The animal's eyes were used to a normal forest setting so anything out of the ordinary was spotted easily. Meera may not be able to see what he saw as easily, but at least she could be aware. Sliding her sword out from her sheath with a scraping sound, she readied herself for an attack if one would come. |

The being Mataza continued his morning patrol, moving through the bushes and trees without a sound until. He paused ever few moments as usual the feeling and sounds of the forest surrounding him. Soon though he spotted a figure moving through the forest some distance ahead. It was hard for him to get a good view of them, but he knew there was another humanoid in this forest. Quickly his body went into motion as he moved through the forest once again without making a noise until he was close enough to pull out his bow. His hand went back to grab an arrow, the tips of his fingers feeling the fine feathers, while his eyes kept on his target. Then something that he did not expect to happen did, the humanoid pulled out a sword. How was she able to know I am here was his question. He didn't bother to think of the answer to that one, and instead prepared to warn the intruder. His right hand grasped the arrow it was playing with moments before and notched it silently, and as he pulled back on the string he aimed his bow at the intruder watching her intently. Twang was the only sound heard as the arrow was sent flying. A moment later it hit the near-by tree. Yes, it may have missed but the was the point. A warning to those who could understand it. Mataza was not done there though, his arm went back once more and notched another arrow swiftly letting it fly again this time letting it fall short, the shaft left sticking out of the ground. Then he quickly moved to another area of the forest, staying in sight of the figure so that he could keep watch of her. At this moment he was now straight ahead of her, but was low within the bushes of the forest. He always like to stalked his prey, watching and learning from them before killing them if needed. |

Just as quickly as Meera had been able to tell that she was not alone in this forest, she spotted the man in front of her. Yes, he was very hard to say, but he made it easier when he moved to notch the arrow to his bow. Eyes narrowing, she watched carefully where the bow was aimed. Her own long years spent at the firing end of a bow enabled her to know that this man was not aiming at her. Her suspicions were correct as the arrow embedded itself in the tree next to her. Letting out a sigh, Meera figured it was a warning. One who carried a bow would not miss like this. Her suspicions were raised again as another arrow landed at her feet. While her eyes followed that arrow, she had missed when he moved. As soon as she looked up again, she realzied that he was not there. Where did he go? She didn't trust the man not to do anything from his hiding spot, so instead she stood there. Just the knowledge that the man hadn't been too far away from her was all she needed. Extending her wings out to their full width, she gave them a powerful flap. These wings were special ones that she won from a raffle. They were winter wings. This gust was strong enough to knock a grown man over. What she wanted was to flush him out by knocking him down. Her eyes darted around as she waited to see if he came out of anywhere. While she flapped her wings, she had forgotten that Venorik was still up in the tree. Suddenly though, she heard angry chitterings and spied Venorik, fur standing up, hanging onto the tree. Supressing a smile because she knew it would make him angrier, she reached her hand up to get him again. He reluctantly jumped down back into her arms safely. As soon as he was on her shoulder again, she smiled yet frantically continued to look for the man. She didn't know why he seemed so protective of this place. It was open to anyone. She wouldn't tolerate someone who claimed such a place as this for thier own. Calling out, she said, "Why do you shoot at me? I mean you no harm." She knew that he probably wouldn't believe her, but it was worth a try. Sometimes people actually did believe the honest truth. It was a rare thing these days, but who knew if you didn't give it a try? |

As Mataza watched from his hiding place and as he watched the intruder he noticed large wings spreading out the figures back. The when they began to flap he was unable to keep his footing and fell to the ground. His bow remained in his tight grasp as he crawled over to sit behind a tree, hopefully hiding himself from the figure. As he waited he started to think of the wings. How did she get wings as powerful as those? Maybe she was born with them? Whatever the answer was he could care less. Soon he chanced a glance from behind the tree to spy on the figure. His first look was at her face which made him pull back, for she was searching for him. He had never faced someone like her. Most of the other people were scared off, or if they put up a fight didn't do much of the attacking. Her wings would also put up a challenge for him, but he still had to do the job he gave to himself. Slowly his body edged up the trunk of the oak he was behind until he was standing straight. His hand reached behind him once more grabbing an arrow and notching it in the string of the bow. One more peek around the edge of the tree showed him where his target was. At the exact moment he heard the snapping of twigs. Not another one.... he though complaining. His ears listened carefully to the sound of the heavy footsteps. They were coming closer to him, so he quickly darted to the next bush to his left, in hopes that he would be able to escape the gaze of the girl and hid from the new comer. (sorry I'm having bad writer's block today >_<) |

Meera's ears caught the unhidden sound of footsteps just as quickly as his did. She did not know any person who knew she was in here. She hadn't invited anyone to come with her either. Then, the realization hit her, it could be an accomplice to this man. With a gasp, she began to jump behind a tree, but then something made her stop and think. Why didn't the man come out still if this person was on his side. Maybe he wanted her to try and hide. Maybe he was just waiting for that opppurtunity. There was also the possibility that it was just an ordinary person who happened to find their way over here at a bad time. There were so many possibilites and Meera didn't have time to assess her best option. Instead, she went with her first instinct and jumped behind the tree. With sword still out, she was prepared though. She had handled two people before. It was definitely harder, but not something impossible. She could do it if needed. Venorik had heard the footsteps as well and had went through his normal routine. Energetically, he jumped off her shoulder and back onto the tree trunk, scrambling up its bark once more. Meera's heart beat steadily as she awaited Venorik's news. It seemed as though he couldn't see anyone though. What was wrong? Certainly someone who walked as loud as that would be visible as well...It was getting more odd by the second. Narrowing her eyes and furrowing her brow, she bit her lip trying to figure out how to protect herself, fight the man, and find out what had made the footsteps in one move. Realizing a plan, her golden emerald eyes sparkled almost mischeviously. Raising a brow, she risked a small glance over her shoulder to the side of the tree to see who was there. Like Venorik though, Meera spied nothing. Suddenly, she had another idea, glancing above her, she saw a branch. With a small jump, she hung from the branch and was able to pull herself up onto it. Farmilliar with the trees and comfortable that she would be able to navigate her way around, she stood up and walked through the trees many branches to see wether anything popped out as the being that had made the noise. Still though, she saw nothing. After sitting on a low branch, she began to wonder what was going on? Resting her head on the tree, she tilted it back. This day was just getting weirder and weirder. What more could the gods pile on her now? A talking racoon? She cursed herself for thinking that. It actually would be pretty interesting. Laughing, she wondered why there were so many random thoughts popping into her head. She was in danger. What was so funny about that? |

Temathil was lost. No two ways around it. She didnt get lost at all much but when she did it was usually bad. she was told go through the forest to get to the next town. she ahd flown for a while but wanted to get a rest so she conttinued on foot. Now though she couldnt find a clear enough area to get airborn. Up ahead she thought she saw a clearing. With a smile she sprinted to it, only to come face to face with another elf...blinking she looked at the woman again. The woman had elven features, but she also had bright white wings, not unilke Temathils that were fully exposed. Temathil looked at her curiously. Pointing to the woman she then pointed to herself. Hoping the woman got the idea about her question. She wanted to know if this woman was an Avariel like herself. |

Mataza waited silently within a new bush he found, bow in hand and arrow notched. His watchful eyes always scanning the area around him for the new intruder to show himself. The sounds of the footsteps continued to get closer and closer until at the last he started to see the making of a figure through the bush line up ahead. He slowly raised his bow, pulling on the string. At the moment the figure came through the bush line he took in her features before aiming at her. Another girl eh? he though, moving his aim at the ground before her feet. His fingers let go of the string and with a twang the arrow was off. It made a loud whistling noise like all arrows tended to do before landing only a foot away from the girl. Then with another arrow in his finger's grasp he quickly reset his bow, letting off another arrow fly into the ground closer. With those arrows shot, he moved back into the forest, slowly moving away through the bushes. Once he had gotten far enough to his fancy he started to move to his right, slowly making his way to their left side before stopping behind a great oak tree. He glanced around the barked tree, taking a quick look at them before pulling back. His hand reached back grabbing another arrow, his fingers noticing he would need to return to his shelter for more as he was getting low on them. He notched it slowly, but did not pull back on it letting the bow and arrow to aim at the ground. He waited impatiently for the intruders to leave, taking a small peek every once in awhile. Mataza knew he could not stay much longer though, his arrow supply was too short if a battle was to accused between him and these trespassers. Maybe if he was swift enough he could reach his home in the forest and replenish his arrows then come back here without their noticing. He was not far from his home, only a ten minute run from where he was now. He thought this over quickly before agreeing with himself knowing that he would stand no chance in a battle at the moment. So with a quick movement he turned the tree crouching and launched his arrow. Once more it wizzed off before landing in the trunk of a tree near the girls. After the sound of the thud reached Mataza's ears he jolted off running in the other direction as fast and as silently as he could. |

(((It's muh birfday  ))) Meera caught sight of the girl just as she approached her. She couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief as she appeared to be just an innocent, not being on his side. Giving her a smile, Meera was about to say something as the girl motioned with her hands. That was odd. Why didn't she say something? That just made her pause for a second, but not for long. The teletale sound that the man's arrow made as it hit the ground at this girls feet realerted Meera to the fact that he hadn't left and was still here watching. His second arrow was fired before she had been given time to react. This time though, she quickly reached out for the girl's arm and pulled her behind the tree with her. She didn't know what the girl had been trying to ask, but there were much more important things than that. The third arrow hit the tree right by her head. That angered Meera even more. Then though, she heard the sounds of soft running footsteps. With a questioning look, she jumped out from behind the tree just in time to see him running away. He had to be doing something. He didn't seem like a person to just run away from a fight. Meera couldn't just leave this girl here though. Turning to her, she said "come on, you just have to trust me right now. Run!" At her own word, Meera took off after the man. It would have been faster to fly, but there were too many trees and she was likely to hit one if she took that chance. Years of running in the forest, plus her celestial infusement made her more agile and she was able to dodge the trees with great ease. She couldn't look back to check and see if the other woman was behind her, because that would disable her vision for a precious moment, but she hoped the woman had trusted her. Meera wouldn't feel the woman was safe though if she wasn't with her. Occaisionally, she spied the man through the trees running ahead. Where was he going? Sighing in frustration Meera relentlessly kept up the pace. Her elven boots did not make even the faintest sound as she ran. Silently thanking the gods that she had them, she wondered if the man would still know that she was chasing him with the other woman's footsteps. It didn't matter though, it appeared that he needed something or else he would have stayed to fight. In that moment, Meera had forgotten about Venorik. In the meantime though, the squirrel, still sitting in the tree back where the girl had approached Meera, decided to go back to her other various companions. Upon making it back, he silently woke up the one companion who he knew could help Meera, Enzo, her fire steed. Enzo groggily stood up then loped off through the forest following the crashing footsteps that he heard in the distance. It would take him a while to get there, but as long as he made it, that was all that mattered. Meera heard more heavier crashes coming from off in the distance of the forest, but she didn't have time to check those out either so she had to keep running just to stay up there with this man and protect hers and this woman's lives. |

Arrows suddenly came down at her. Suprised she drew her sword in a lightning quick movement but saw no one from where th arrows had come. An arrow suddenly thunked into a tree near the other woman. Turning she caught a brief glimpse a running figure. She didnt have time to do anything before the woman took her arm. They went running after the man. the other woman was fast beyond belief and Temathil had a hard time keeping pace. The two bounded through the forest after the running man. Temathil watched the glimpses of the man and concluded with his direction and face, he was trieng to get something. Temathil heard a noise off in the woods somewhere that caught her attention, not enough to deviat off her course though. ((happy bday!!)) |

Mataza continued running through the forest. His eyes watching upcoming branches and logs so he could go over or under him. He knew he was coming close to his shelter, a smile spread across his face under the cloth mask he had. Then it faded away as he heard some foot steps. Only one pair though, and as he looked back he could just make out two figures through the brush. She's quiet... he thought to himself before falling to the ground and rolling into a bush in an attempt to hid himself from them. His hand grasped a small rock which he threw in the direction he was once heading hoping that they would go that way and loose track of him. While he waited for them, he loaded another arrow in his bow, and pulled on the string. Luckily the bush was large enough for him to do that and was well covered with leaves, making it hard for anything to see him from the outside. Mataza lowered his breathing rate, slowly taking in deep breaths silently. He was nervous as he did so. Never had someone chased this far before. Others would loose his tracks or sight of him and leave, and this is what he was hoping for. Maybe it would happen maybe it wouldn't. It was all up to their knowledge of the woodland. While he was sitting there under the bush he refused to do nothing and wait for them, so he quickly looked around him for another way of escape if needed. A ways off not to far away he spotted a small stream. He had been in it before, it was thick and long running all the way through the forest, The best part of it was the fact it was only knee deep. Quickly he formed up a plan to take the stream up to his shelter if they passed him and if they don't. What if they don't? he thought looking around again. Nothing else was visible to his mind and the only thing he could count on if that happened was his bow. He planned on taking a killing shot then running off it they found. Hopefully if he was able to wound one the other would stay to help, then he would make his escape. A nod to himself agreed on the quick plan. It was easy, simple enough for him and could be done quickly. If he was able to pull it off he would go to his shelter, load up on arrows and then head out again and hunt the intruders down. Until then he could only wait silently in the bush, with his bow and arrow loaded. (Happy B-Day) |

Meera was no newcomer to the ways of a fight. She would not make the same mistakes that beginners commonly made so easily. When the man dissapeared from sight, she slid to a quick stop. This could be bad for them. There were several things that he could have done and almost all of them meant bad things for her and the other woman. One, he could have gone invisible, dissapearing from their vision and able to do anything. Quickly though, Meera dismissed that because his bow would at least still be visible and it was not. Another option was that he had quickly jumped behind a tree or bush and was waiting for them to pass him. For some reason, Meera doubted that idea. She didn't know why but she just didn't think he would do that. The third one was good for them. He could have tripped and fallen and was now laying on the ground somewhere ahead of them. Letting out another soft groan of frustration, she ran her fingers through her hair. Moving was probably the worst thing they could do right now. With a smile though, Meera realize one spell that could help her immensely for all three options. Lifting her hands up, she slashed them downwards reciting the words to the spell sanctuary. Now, he could not attack her unless she attacked him. With a smile Meera now felt that she was safe to walk forwards again. Stepping slowly though, her eyes flashed to each side as she looked behind trees for him hiding. Turning backwards, she heard the large crashing steps right upon them now. Her hair whirled to the side as she prepared to defend herself at the thing. She was relieved to see that it was only Enzo. With a smile, she greeted her steed with a joyful pat on the neck. He nuzzled her lovingly and then stood at attention looking for the man that Venorik had told him about. Meera, while he did that, turned back to the woman. SHe felt that she could talk to her now that the man couldn't catch them unawares. She asked "Do you see him anywhere? He should be here somewhere." Pulling aside a thick tree branch she looked behind it, but nothing was there. Shaking her head, she couldn't get over the feeling that he was just waiting for them. Enzo, acting upon a scent, began to plod towards the man's general direction. Meera was so preoccupied she didn't even notice. Enzo began to sniff along the edge of a bush. Meera heard the sound of something hitting the path in front of her. Whirling around, she looked around to see that it was only a rock. Where was he? Enzo's great head turned as the rock just barely whizzed by his nose. Stamping his foot, he tossed his big head and whinnied looking towards Meera. He didn't quite understand where the rock had come from but was pretty sure Meera would want to look at it. Indeed, Meera walked up to him and looked in the bush. There was the man with an arrow nocked. He couldn't hurt her right now though. Instead, she glared at him and put her hands on her hips before saying. "What is your problem?" |

When they came to the area he was hiding in he held his bow ready. Keeping his aim on them the whole time. He did not plan on shooting yet, waiting for the right moment, but when he saw the girl do a hand movement and speak words that had no meaning to him he knew there was a spell at hand. He had seen this before with other people, usually they would speak strange words or make hand movements. He should have shot his arrow then but the sound of hooves nearby held him still. Was there some kind of meeting going on? he asked himself. He couldn't believe his eyes when he saw the burning the horse come into view. It was such a wonderful creature to behold and he had never seen anything like it, but when it started heading towards him he got himself ready. His bow was now pulled back aimed out at the horse. If it got too close he would loose his arrow but the opportunity never came. Then out of nowhere the bush opened up and he saw the girl standing right there. Mataza was so surprised, he didn't know what to do at first. His eyes turned angry at that moment and he redirected his arrow at the girl. At that moment his arms felt wobbaly and he could not let og of the arrow. He gave up on his attack, letting the arrow fly away in a different direction, then rolled away in the opposite direction of the girl. When his body came out from beneath brush he got up and jolted off running once more. While doing so he felt for an arrow. There was nothing there, just air. He cursed under his breath, quickly turning to hid behind a tree. "Leave this forest!" he announced as loud as he could. He tried to make his voice menacing but it wasn't as loud as he wished it to be. From where he hid now he wasn't at all far away from the intruders, two meters no more. From there he thought of why he didn't attack the girl when he had the chance. What it that spell she casted? he asked himself, before shaking his head. Right now wasn't the time to think about that but to think of an escape plan. His eyes staring at the stream that was now closer, that was what he was going to use for escape if needed.. "Leave this Forest!" he said again, this time his voice louder and booming. Mataza stayed behind the tree quietly waiting for their reply or movement. Curiosity got the better of him and he looked around the tree slowly. He got a good look of them before pulling back, still awaiting their reply. He kept his body in a crouch, ready to jolt away if they decided to not take his warning. |

Temathil was running with the other woman when they suddenly lost sight of the man. The came to a quick stop, weapons drawn. The woman asked if she saw where the man went. She glanced the woman briefly and shook her head no. Suddenly she heard a crashing right behind them, turing she brought up her sword ready. A steed came crashing oput of the woods and went to the woman where she patted it affectionatly. "I guess thats hers." she though. Sheathing her sword she brought out her bow and knocked an arrow. She saw the horse walk towards a bush that was nearby and begin examinign it intently. She thought that was rather odd and decided to train her bow on the bush. Animals knew more than others sometimes. He could have found the man they were chasing. She watched the other woman go over too the bush and look in. She heard the woman ask, "What is your problem?" just before ana rrow came whistling out over her shoulder making Temathil jump out of the way. she loosed an arrow into the bush but the man had dashed off. she quickly knocked and loosed a second arrow at the running figure, who was yelling "Leave this forest!", she ignored it, as her arrow thunked into a tree he dodged behind. She put a third arrow to her bow and walked forwards a bit, training her arrow on the tree he hid behind. She saw his head and let loose the arrow. He retracted the head though and her arrow flew harmlessly by. "Ah! This man is becoming incredibly difficult." she thought. |

Meera watched the man run again. He would just not give up and explain why he did not want them here. Why were there so many people who just wanted to be difficult. No one could come easily. Letting out a sigh, her golden emerald eyes simply followed him from tree to tree. It was no use chasing him anymore. They could just avoid him if he insistently followed them. Walking over to where the girl had followed the man to behind the tree, she watched with curious eyes. Seeing the girl fire the arrows, she yelled "No!" quickly with eyes wide as she ran to get to her. Putting her hand on the bow, Meera pushed it downwards. If the girl were to actually hit the man, it would call off the spell that she had cast. That was not what they wanted right now. Giving the girl a look, she explained why she had yelled like that, "If you hit him, it will call off the spell I cast that protects us for now." She didn't want to seem mean, but it was important. Returning her attention to the man, she now became irritated. "Nothing you can do will make us leave," she bristled. She had just as much right to this forest as he did and she would make sure that he knew that. Continuing on, Meera said "I'll ask you again, why do you want us to leave this forest? We did nothing aggressive to provoke you to attack us. Before, we meant no harm, but now we are reacting in self defense." She spoke with we's and us's because the girl simply would not speak. Meera was not quite sure if it was because she couldn't, or she didn't want to, but the girl didn't and that was all that mattered. Just to be safe, she spoke out in case the girl couldn't. Letting out another exasperated sigh, she crossed her arms over her chest and rolled her eyes waiting for the man's answer. |
