| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Zydus felt the hand of someone on his shoulder. He turned and saw Aegion. "Welcome friend." He said warmly. "Please, sit down....and I see you have already introduced yourself to Brynn." Zydus stood up and shook Aegion's hand, quickly sitting down again on the same seat. He heard Brynn wondering about the phrase 'Sir Kelsin'. "No, I do not need to be called Sir Kelsin...I'm just a Knight - friends call me Zydus, there is no need to make it formal." He was trying to make Brynn feel more comfortable around him, because he was afraid she may become uncomfortabe at the thought of him being a 'Sir' - Zydus didn't really liked to be called a 'Sir' anyway, as he considered it to be a snobby, upper-class title. Zydus turned towards Aegion again. "It's good to see you made it, Aegion. I was wondering where you had got to." He smirked around the table. |

Aegion made a vague gesture, pointing behind him, "Well I was er, blocked by a party of adventurers adjourning to their rooms so I lost sight of you. I won't call you Sir then, some knights that I knew had been offended when I omitted the Sir so I suppose that I'd better be all formal and polite first." He pulled a chair nearby towards the table and sat down, letting out an inaudible sigh of relief when he sat down, resting his weary legs. After walking for days from the Netherealms all the way to Imythess' Deep Cities, then back to Taras, it can be taxing on the legs. He had been keeping himself up with healing spells every now and then, but now he realized just how much he wanted to sleep and recover days of missed rest. He looked back and said, "Mr. Bartender! Could I have another mug of Zaradior Spirits?" He dug his hands into his pockets and took out some coins. A young pretty barsmaid, probably about 18 or 19 years old, took the mug from the bartender and walked over, handing it over to Aegion. Glancing at the wooden name tag on the right chest of the barsmaid, he paid the cost of the Zaradior Spirits and added another coin as a tip. "Here are the coins, Ruby, and a tip for you. Thanks for the mug." Ruby the barsmaid smiled and pocketed his tip, walking over to the bartender to give him the payment and to serve other customers. Aegion took a deep swig out of his mug, savouring the warm and refreshing feel of the Spirits travelling down his throat, and into his stomach. He pointed to his mug, "Refreshing. I've been travelling for days and this mug is the only thing that is keeping me from collapsing right here, right now." |

Zydus looked at Aegion's drink. "Zaradier Spirits - not a really a favourite of mine...I prefer ale, myself." He smiled, and stood up to walk towards the bar, where he was going to order a mug of ale again. Zydus prefered to let the barmaids relax, while they could, rather than call them over to the table he was at. He believed that everyone who has legs, should use them properly. After paying the bartender, Zydus returned with a fresh mug of ale in his hand. He sat down, smiling, and slowly began to sip the ale. He waited for someone to begin talking again, but slolwly noticed that he had forgotten to ask Brynn if she would also like some more ale. "Since you've got your Zaradier Spirits, Aegion, I'd like to ask you, Brynn, if you would also like something else to drink." It was not normal for Zydus to do something, like buying a drink, and not offer any companions with him, one. |

Brynn had never been called a lady before, at least not as a title - a farmer's daughter then orphan, she was anything but. Still, she had to smile at it. So she didn't look completely awful then. This was a relief. But she didn't like the way Aegion seemed to be looking past her eyes when he looked at her. She didn't speak to him immediately, but replied to Zydus. "Well, I shall call you by your given name then," she said simply, with a smile. She did, however, hide her smile at Aegion's comments to the barmaid. He was certainly a charmer, she supposed, as Ruby glanced his direction again as she served more drinks. A minute later, she stopped watching the dancers to pay attention to what Zydus was saying. "I think another ale would be perfect," she replied, and held out two gold coins to him. "Would you ...?" From where she was seated, it would be difficult for her to get out to go to the bar - she didn't like having people do things for her, especially people she didn't know. Calling a barmaid over would seem like servantry to her. |

Zydus smiled at Brynn, and took her gold coins from her. He would rather pay for the drink himself, as he was the one who asked Brynn did she want one. Though, he still took money, and walked up to the bar, where once again he ordered some more ale. The bartender looked at him quite suspiciously, probably because he came up straight after just buying ale a few moments before. This caused Zydus to say something to the bartender -- which wasn't taken to well. Quickly Zydus put Brynn's money on the bar, and grabbed the mug. He wasn't looking for an argument with any Inn workers. He brought back Brynn's drink, setting it upon the table in front of her. "Here you go." He quickly glanced up at the bar, and noticed the grumpy face on the worker he had just annoyed. Smirking, he looked out the window, and once again began to sip his own ale. |

Aegion could feel the strength coming back to his legs and his body as he finished the last drop from his mug. He grinned, more to himself than to anyone else, contentedly and placed the mug on the table, then leaning back on the chair and placed both hands in a 'thoughtful' position. His fingers formed the top two side of a triangle, and his thumbs forming the base of the triangle. Keeping his thoughts for a while, he finally leaned forward, and placed his hands on the table. Waiting for his companions to swallow gulps or sips of their respective beverages and, at that appropriate pause, he said, "Forgive me if I am wrong, Lady Ryder, but you don't seem like a local Taras citizen to me. May I ask where you hail from?" |

"Thank you," Brynn said as Zydus put her mug down in front of her. She had caught the looks exchanged between the knight and barman, but not the words. She did wonder, but kept quiet about it. She resumed her study of the people around them, her eyes automatically darting to the door whenever it opened. As Aegion spoke to her, she swallowed a mouthful of ale and smiled. "Indeed I'm not, my Lord. I come from a village quite south of here - nearly in Choer, in fact. Hikla, but I don't suppose you've heard of it. I've been travelling for near four years. This is where I ended up." She smiled at him, polite but vague. She would tell him about most of her past, though her recent explorations would remain secret. "What about you? Are you from Taras or beyond?" she asked innocently, taking a sip of drink. |

Zydus listened intently to their conversation, though he would sometimes think about his own things in between. Slowly he sipped his ale, and looked on out the window, sometimes looking at the bartender who he had annoyed earlier -- he smirked at the grumpy face, which the bartender still managed to withhold. Quietly, Zydus put the now half-empty, or half-full as some people tend to say it, cup on the table. He sat back once again, letting his head fall into his hands as a head rest. Casually he listened from Aegion and Brynn's conversation to the music that was echoing around the Inn. |

Aegion hesitated, then decided that he would answer truthfully. "I'm not very sure where I'm from myself. In fact, I have no idea how old am I. From what I've found out after years of planeswalking, I seem to be born in this realm, right here in the continent of Imythess. My ancestors are frequent planewalkers themselves, especially my celestial ancestors." He stopped, and thought about what he said. He doubt that she would understand the part about him not knowing his own age though, since he had not understood it himself earlier, only recently discovering the reason for it. |

Brynn leaned forward, interested. "You walk amongst the planes?" she asked excitedly. She had heard of people like that, of course, but had never met one. "What's it like?" The thing about his age passed her completely - she was too interested in what he did. Her blue eyes shone - she hadn't looked so enthralled by something since she was twelve. |

Zydus hadn't really been listening to the part when Aegion mentioned him being a plane walker. He was thinking to himself mostly, and only sometimes tuned into what Aegion and Brynn were saying to each other. Besides, he had too much on his mind to think about this sort of thing. He picked up his glass again,a dn began to sip it slowly, and now started to listen to Aegion and Brynn's conversation. He hadn't much else to do, and din't want to keep thinking about things so he decided that he may as well take some interest in what they were talking about -- even though he wasn't involved in the conversation at the moment. |

Aegion was surprised to find Brynn so interested in Planeswalking, as most of the people he knew were planeswalkers; they had travelled amongst the planes together ages ago. Yet, he sensed the genuine shine in her eyes as she leaned forward, a key sign of interest in a subject. He thought for a moment, not exactly how he could express himself. After all, planeswalking is a complex matter. It is not just moving from one realm to another, but it involves treading lightly amongst the intricate design of the universe - a mistake and it could tear the very universal fabric that holds the universe in one big piece. "I'm not exactly sure how to explain, Lady Ryder, so forgive me if what I say seems incoherent." He paused, then continued. "Planeswalking is the act of travelling from a realm, or plane, to another. For example, if I remember correctly, this place where we are sitting now, is the throne room of the aquatic realm of Shyraa. And... that chair over there, should be the throne itself. All realms are interconnected; we are all interdependent in one way or another. Most realms are worlds just like ours, but with different people, culture or settings. Think of it as a... stack of books in a library stacked together. Our realm is but one page of a book. All the realms that are interconnected with our world are pages in the same book. Realms that do not coincide with our world, however, are pages in different books. In order to travel to these other realms, the procedures of doing so is more difficult. These realms are sort of 'grouped' together, firstly in 'books', then 'shelves', 'libraries', and so on. What other type of things that are situated outside is beyond my knowledge. As the great planesmage said, 'The Universe if Infinite'." He took a deep breath, and said, "Or are you more interested in the methods of planeswalking, Lady Ryder?" |

Brynn shook her head in amazement - she'd never heard a planewalker talk about it before; it sounded a little different to an uncle who didn't really know what he was talking about. "Wow," she breathed, smiling, then realised she probably looked like a young child. She sat up properly, though still smiling. "Methods ... if you wouldn't mind..." She thought he might not want to talk about it - sometimes people were reluctant to talk about their strengths - she knew she was. |

Aegion was glad that someone actually wanted to listen to his ramblings. Although he looked like he was 25, but his experiences are enough to last for several life times. For once, he felt like a really old grandfather imparting one of his life stories to a young granddaughter. Nevertheless, he continued. "There are hundreds of methods for planeswalking, but normally a planeswalker selects the methods that would enable him to travel between planes as easily and as conveniently as possible. Different planeswalkers have different styles. Take me for example. If i want to travel to planes that are 'closest' to our realm, like pages in the same book, there would normally be Plane Portals scattered throughout this realm, for example, there is just one plane portal in Taras. You would have to know the... design of the realm you want to go. The planes, or realms, are actually sewn together in an intricate tapestry, and in order to travel to a certain plane, you must know the plane's 'tapestry design'. It's a little hard to describe, but I hope you get what I was trying to say." "Now, for travelling to further realms that are less connected to us, like books in other shelves, there are several methods as well. My most common and favourite one is making use of water. Water is the element, as it is the only known element that all known realms contain. We have not found any realms that do not have water. Hence, water is the element that all realms have in common, so we can use it to 'connect' ourselves to other realms. You see, in order to travel to another realm, you have to have a kind of 'connection' to go there; something in common. Which is where water comes in. The ritual needed is kind of boring, so I won't bore you with the details." |

Brynn nodded - she didn't need to the rituals, anyway - but she was still grinning. "It sounds amazing," she said enthusiastically. "Have you always been a planewalker?" |
