Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Not really sure of where to go, the hooded figure heads towards what appears, at least, to be a cheerful tavern. He had heard of a seedier place, deep in the underbelly of the city, where no amount of cleansing would ever remove the sinful grime. Perhaps that was a place to be visited, but not tonight, the first night of a hopeful many. No, tonight was a time for forced merriment, if not actuall merriment. Perhaps he would be able to salve his spirits with much ale and accompaniment, perhaps not.

Taking long strides towards the inn, the figure stops beside of an armor dealers wares to gaze at his reflection. His shock of spiky brown hair was, as usual, in a dissarray, and his skin was beginning to tan. "At least in this sunny land i can finally rid myself of this dreadfully pale skin", he thought. Gazing deeper still into the breastplate, he noticed with disdain that his usually light filled green eyes were on this night, particurly dark and stormy. He had always hated his eyes, for they were the one thing he could not hide his dark past from. The answers to his life lied there to any who sought them. Finally giving up on straightening his hair and pulling himself away from his reflection, he continued his march to the door of the inn.

Bracing himself, he orchistrated a magnifecent grin and flung open the door with a bang. Taking the entire tavern in with one sweeping gaze, from the fat and rich feasting on their fine meats and wine, to the poor and lowly begging for alms in the corner, he walked through the crowded room to an empty table along the left wall near the fireplace. Taking off his heavy cloak, he could not help but to release a few strangled twangs from his instrument. Unstrapping the guitar from its resting place on his back, he took the fine tuned and well used instrument into his lap, and began strumming a tune. Gazing around at all those who noticed him, he avoided no eye, even of those who wished him ill. Not really caring for what the common folk thought of him and his strange garb of an all leather tunic and hunting breeches, he sat and strummed, waiting. "Waiting for... what?", he thought, and then decided it didnt really matter, for he was certain that somewhere out there someone would be intrigued by this musician-not a musician, and would seek out his company.

Tarì walked down the streets of Taras looking for someplace warm and clean. She had been traveling for a long time and was weary and travel warn from her journy. She approched the Song of Elves Tavern and Inn hoping that no one in there would reconize her.Its obsurd to think your father already has people out looking for you. Calm down you skittish little welp. Tarì laughed at her own ability to sound like her father when chiding herself. Old habits die hard and this was definatly an old habit.

At the entrance to the door she hesitated slightly. But Tarì, giving in, opened the door and gazed around the room. There were no tables open and very few people that were sitting alone. Not one for really bringing attention to herself she walked over to the fireplace to warm her hands. It was cool outside and the heat was a welcome change to the wind that whiped at her cloths. As she stood by the fire someone started to play an instument nearby. Looking around she saw a man sitting not to far away from her struming on a guitar.
She hadnt heard anyone play the guitar so she listened to him play in silence. She loved music. She wanted to sing with the guitar the man was playing but desided better of it. Instead she looked into the fire and just listened to the man. He was very good at playing. Tarì could tell he had been playing the guitar for a long time.

She approched the man calmly. Exscuss me please sir. I dont mean to disturb you but may i sit with you. She smiled at the man. Like always her smile was warm and friendly.

Looking up from his guitar, Adrien smiled warmly, almost as warmly as the pretty face that smiled back at him. "Why of course you may join me", he said. "I am called Adrien the... Bard", he said after a pause, "and what, may I ask, is the name of this beauty who has brightened my day?" He was pleased that someone obviously liked his music, aside from himself, and was glad for the company. He had been alone on his travels for far too long, and this was, perhaps, the first human contact he had had for the mere pleasure of it, in a long, long time. He had high hopes for this strange girl who approached him from the fire side, and would do his best to please her ears with his well practiced chords. There was no business for him in this land, he had escaped from his ancient homestead just for things of this nature. To follow in all his skills, not just the dark one of silent killing. He had always loved to talk, and was hoping this would be a fine tome to do so, maybe get to know the lass, and perhaps write a grand story from her life... He shook his head, rattling loose the thoughts of an entertainer, and looked to the maiden for her response...

Why thank you Adrien. My name is Tarí Nólatári, althought i do not see the beauty that you speak of. All elves are beautiful in some way are they not? I must say that you play beautifully. I really do love music, although my only musical talent is with my voice. I dont have instrumental talent like you do. She looked at the guitar in wonder. How long have you been playing? She was looking intently at Adrien. It wasnt untill she remembered how upset she had been the last time someone had looked at her that way, that she realized it might make him uncomfortable. So instead of looking at him she decided to look at the guitar.

"It is a pleasure to meet you, Tarry" he said, his lulling accent brutally ruining the crystal sound it made flowing from her elven mouth. "I have been playing for quite some time now, ever since I heard my first instrument being played by the town bard before he gave it to me as a 10th winters passing festival." "I have cherished it ever since, and play all my sorrows and joys out through it", he said, looking lovingly at his instrument. "So you sing do you?" he asked. "I have known elven folk to have voices that could make the toughest barbarian shed tears," he said hopefully. "So," he said, "I have told you a little about myself, what do you want to discuss?" "Or perhaps youd like to sing a little?" he said, catching her eyeing his guitar...

Well first and formost I'd like to know what a Bard is. I came from an all elvish community. So my aquantance with these terms that people place on other people, I am afraid is rather poor. Anything you wish to tell me about yourself would be fine too. Of coarse I will do the same right after. Like where did you come from? Just the small details. I do not wish to pry where i am not wanted.Tarì smiled at Adrien. He seemed nice enough. She had heard the want in his voice for her to sing. Yes she could sing very well but didnt know him well enough yet. Sorry to inform you of this but i am a bit to shy to sing for you infront of all these people. Maybe in a quieter setting at another time.

Smiling at her shy reply, he said "I understand your wariness to sing in front of others whom you do not know." Wondering how to explain to someone with little understanding of other culture's slang... he thought a minute and finally added "And a bard is someone who performs for a living, such as singing and playing music, and telling stories to the public." Thinking a little more, he followed up with "It is a very meager life, and yet very fulfilling." "I have been a bard since I first sat around the taverns in my homeland of Elysian, where I barely made a few pennies a day." "It was enough to live by, even though i didnt really need to," he said, and then explained "I came from a rich family." "I never really took on the rich lifestyle," he said. "ive always much preferred to live freely on my own than to have others bow down before me to feed me from silver trays." Thinking back on his life before he worked for a living, he visibly shuddered and stared blankly into the fire for a few seconds. "I just couldnt stomache it," he said. "What of you? he asked earnestly. "What do you do for a living here in this strange land of Imythess?"

Tarì studied him, wondering if he could be trused enough with her secret. I do not posses a job yet. At the moment I am in search of a place to call home.
I also have come from a wealthy family although my reasons fro leaving are much different from yours. I come from a place called Eärwen Felagund. But inorder to tell you why i left let me first tell you a bit about the place that i come from and what was exspected of me.
Clearing her throat she began her tale.Eärwen Felagund is alot like Norwood Forest. The city is in the wood, woods just like those, although the trees are huge redwoods. But our the city is in the tree tops, a huge interconnected web of life and lights. The homes looked a bit like a wasps nest and we used the brances of the trees in our homes as seats, benches, or tables. We didnt cut pieces of the trees down to make room for us, we molded to the trees. Our in was the most widely know place. One of the branches actually served as the bar. She smiled at the memory of many people crouded at the polished bar.

Of course there were rules and regulations that everyone had to follow. We didnt want our city discovered. There were archers posted at our boarders ready to discourage any traveler from entering our woods. Thoses that could not be discouraged were shot and killed on the spot. I would sit and here the gaurds brag about how many they had killed that day.

I was a priestess. Born into a long line of noble familys. Being a priestess was hard enough for me. I have never worn these types of clothing. I used to ware dresses of all colors suited to my station, greens, yellows... the colors of the autum leaves. By the age of 200, which would be about the equivilent of your 19 years I found out that my father was aranging for me to be wed. I knew the man he wanted me to marry, Angrod Tîwele. He is a nice enough man but in some ways very crule and insubordinate. I knew i could never marry this man. I had begged my father to reconsider but he would not be swayed. Secretly I made preperations to leave my home. I had made my own cloths and found suitable wepons from the town armory, which has things on stock for the archer gaurds. So the night before i was to be wed i left. Taking with me what I hoped would be sufficent for my journy. I have traveled very far in search of a home but i do not know if i will find one here.

She sighed and looked at Adrien for his reaction.

Chucklng to himself half heartedly, he looks her up and down, and says "were not that different, you and I." Thinking for a second, he adds "we are both running from a past we do not like, even though your past is very different from mine. I mentioned before that being a bard was a very meager lifestyle, I just did not say how meager. Several nights I have gone hungry in my old homestead, and soon after I began my life as a wandering bard, I began to steal as well.

I found that I was very good at it, and soon I was pulling jobs for a living instead of playing the music that I love. I would like very much to tell you right now that i was stealing from the rich and giving from the poor," he said, laughing again, "but I cannot." "I stole from everyone, not just the rich, and i gave to no one but the innkeepers and bartenders. It was very easy then, to make the jump from stealing for a living to killing. It didnt take much of a change... instead of breaking into peoples homes, stealing and leaving, i now broke in, stole, killed the person i was hired to kill, left, and picked up my fee for the kill." He shakes his head, remembering past times that he was now deathly ashamed of. "All that is behind me now, now that i left my homeland in search of somewhere to play my music where it can be adored for what it is. I collected enough of a profit from the hired man jobs that i no longer need to play for money, now i can just do it for love."

His eyes seem to lighten some as he looks back into hers, realising that he has commented none on her past. "I am sorry that you had to leave your homeland because of your father and an arranged marriage... and perhaps you will make Imythess as much of a home as i will," he says with much more than hope in his voice. Looking back down to his guitar, he looks back up at her. "So, on a lighter note, is there a song you happen to like above others?"

Tarì looked at Adrien in surprise. Never had she exspected anything of that nature from him. I would never have imagined you to be a killer of any kind. But yes our paths are similar in many ways but we did leave for different reasons. I am truly sorry for your reasons for leaving.

when he asked about a song she stoped and thought. She loved most songs. There were no particular ones she like more. I love most songs. There are none that i seem to like more. Perhaps if you sing me a song i may sing one for you. She smiled at Adrien then.

Adriell had been walking down the streets as the rain had started coming down. And for many moments she stood there letting the water cascade down and over her. Drenching her hair and cloths and letting her skin cool in the touch of the water. The life source of the world. She sighed though finally when she noticed that the cold chill to the rain was effecting her bones and her skin had started to tingle. She felt the urge to shift aquatic and knew it would do her no good. So looking around, without any real rush, she spotted the tavern and felt a urge to go in. She could see the warmth from the fire place and torches in the tavern and sighed out a soft cloud of icy mists before walking towards the Tavern.

She pressed past the door and walked into a room filled with light. She closed her white iris'ed eyes and let her gray pupils contract to shield the light before reopening them the black ring around the iris the only seperation between eye color and eye whites beside a deep sinking ice feeling from staring at the color as if it were the color of ones' soul. Her lightly tanned skin was decorated lightly be tribals that showed a heritage of something far different from any known by even archivists. She brused away her damp bangs as they stuck lightly to her forehead and ajusted her skirt which also now clung to her. Many people turned to glance over her but many turned back to what they were doing. She was only 5'3" tall yet her ears held a slight point to them and might seem Elven but were not. Her skin was a lightly tanned poselin and smooth as rose petals. She also carried with her the scents of rain and moonflower boque. She looked around only once before spotting the fire and walking lightly towards it. Whilst standing there she heard the bard and the elveness and listened feeling her self slip away to her own thoughts and fractured memories she hummed lightly before parting her lips only so slightly and emmited a soft tune. The words though were unfamiliar while sounding like a twang of elven...had the hue of tribalistics and some russian hints as well.

'Usstan unboi wund l' oloth Rementir whol l' ssussun Usstan xun expect l' harset Lu' doeb d' ml'aen Usstan still sense l' endar Olathur valyrinen d' ssrig'luin Usstan xo'al ulu satiir l' distance Tu'fyr eairthin lu' talwien'

{Translation:I step into the darkness
Preparing for the light
I do expect the hardest
And deferred out of sight
I still sense the different
Darker kinds of need
I try to feel the distance
Between ground and feet}

When the lyrics drifted away she sighed and looked down thinking of where she knew that song and language from feeling slightly confused.

Looking up, startled, at the sudden singing, he finds himself looking into the strangest eyes he had ever seen. The girl wasnt that tall, standing a good quarter of a foot shorter than he, and she was wet and chilled to the bone. "Either its started raining outside," he said to himself, "or this girl has been swimming in the middle of winter." Looking once again at Tari, and then back at the newcomer, he says "That was quite lovely Miss." As an afterthought, or so it seems, he asks "may I ask the lady's name, and how she came to find herself here, sopping wet and warming herself beside a fire?" Turning back to Tari, he asks her, laughing softly, "I dont suppose you mind another person joining our meager party, now would you?" "That is of course, if thats what this woman has in mind," he thought to himself...

Adriell looked up hearing the mans' voice she turned her iced colored eyes to look at him. She blinked and listened to his flooding of questions and then smiled lightly, she had been pondering when his voice came into play and it had startled her some to be spoken to. She thought of her name such and odd name to herself she said out "Adriell Delesangre..."And after a short pause she looked at the fire and thought a moment. "I was wandering through Tara's when the storm caught on...So I am waiting out the rains." She turned to looked Tari and felt, as well as saw a bright threads of emerald running through the woman. She was elven only elven held such a bright glowing emerald twineing to their auras.

Tarì inclined her head at the woman and said softly to her Would you care to join us miss? It is warm here and you should get enough heat from the fire to dry yourself. Pulling a chair over she motioned for the woman to sit.

So Adriell, what brings you to Taras? That is if you dont mind me asking... you caught us reminising into our past lives im afraid and im sure Adrien would be as intreged as I to here where you have been and come from.

She was smiling at the woman. She knew it would probably be hard for her to dwell on the past as it had been for Tarì.

Adrill nods to Tari and then approaches a little skittish it would seem...people hardly ever spoke to her let alone asked her to join them. So sitting in the seat Tari had pulled out of her she glanced around some then nodded some. "I was just passing through then found the storm was in strenght and decided to hasten here and wait it out... I was heading from the Istan Desert. " She says thinking -How odd I go from Blazing sand storms with hardly any water, to pouring ice cold rain. Its as if the worlds against me this time- She smiled some and looked down running her fingers through her hair as she looked to Adrien her past...was something she wanted to share...but could not...Nor she doubted she would want to if she knew it. Sometime terrible had happened to her and her mind had blacked out alot of it. "I am sorry...My past is nothing important as two such as yourselves."
