| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Shynthriir walked into the tavern. It was slightly damp, but completely tolerable for the Drow. Few other people were in the tavern at that moment, it didn't matter either way though. He hadn't gone to the tavern to make conversation with other people or, by the looks of some of the beings in the tavern, creatures. He seemed out of place and it looked as if a few people were staring at him. Was it because of his skin? His heritage? That he did not know. He knew not the ways of his people, but he knew that some people treated him different for the pure reason of having the dark skin he himself had. A seat was empy in the corner, it was dark in shadow. Normal, Shynthriir wouldn't have sat in such a place. The table was not cleaned all the way and the wood was slightly disfigured. It was in shadow though, more shadow than most of the other tables, and that was the one erason that he wanted this table. He walked to the table and sat down. He wasn't hungry enough to ask someone for food, but if someone came to him and asked, he would certainly ask for something. He had just gotten back from a jouney in the desert and didn't eat or drink as much as he should have, but because he raised himself in the forest as a little boy he was able to go for a number of days without food and drink. |

Darrius stood, merged in the shadows. He watched the man set at teh table in front of him, looking tired and parched. He stepped out from the shadows with two ales. He sat one in front of the drow. "Hello, I am Darrius. I couldn't help but get you a drink. You look very thirsty. Mind if I sit?" He gestured to the wopoden chair opposite the man. Darrius pulle dout the seat and sat, smoothing his robes. "Go ahead drink up. Plenty more where that came from." With that, he lifted teh glass and took a long sip himself. Darrius noticed several stares coming his way, more particulaly, the drows. He found it quite rude when people where intolerant of other just because of skin. "What brings you to these parts? I don't recall seeing you about." Darrius looked the man over, noting several unique features. He gave a small smile and listened intintly, blocking the rude eyes that peered at them from afar. |

A man by the name of Darrius, or so the man proclaimed, walked up to Shynthriir and sat down in the seat opposite him. A glass of what appeared to be ale was place in front of him, graciously given to Shynthriir by the stranger. Shynthriir held the glass close to him mouth, allowing his nose to sniff the liguid inside as to make sure it wasn't poisoned with anything. It seemed safe and he was quick to drink down the whole glass, which was quick to be replaced by another glass from a nearby waitress. He wasn't quite as parched and slowly sipped the ale in this new glass. Shynthriir then looked up at Darrius, "I thank you for the ale. I was quite thirsty from my recent travels in the desert, which is no concern for either you or me." Another small sip of ale passed the lips of the drow, a slight belch leaving his mouth as the first glass caught up with him. "As for why I am here, it is a long story." Shynthriir looked the man over and drew a conclusion quite quickly, "But it doesn't appear as if you are going anytime soon, and I would like to tell someone of my tale." Shynthriir took another sip as he collected all his thoughs of the story he was about to tell, making sure as to not forget a detail that might be important in the stoy's telling. He took in a deep breath and began, "I, as you can tell from my skin, an a Drow. That is one of the few thing I know about myself. I was abandoned as a child, left in a forest to live my life alone and undirected. The trees of the woods were my shelter, my home, and my defense against the harsh lessons that weather bring in this world of ours. I had no friends and no family to call my own. It was only me and the animals that had accepted me into their habitat. "I had no complaints about living in the world of that forest for the few decade I had. I have no idea of how long I was in the woods either. Days turned to weeks, weeks into months, months into years. It all seemed to murge into one continuous flow of time, neverending, and never giving me hope of a better life. "It was one day, may decades after I was left in the forest, that I saw the first signes of hope. I was walking the edges of the forest and saw someone. They looked different from the animals in the forest, and different from my own looks. They spoke in a toungue not known to me at the time, but the sounds of the voices, the sound of life other than me, gave me hope. "It was many weeks, possibly months, before I got the courage to leave the forest. The hope of finding a meaning in my life draw my couriosity more than my urge to stay protected within the trees. I left that day, and no wonder the land looking for a meaning for my life. One that has more of a meaning than to just survive the tests of time and nature. That is one of my hopes," Shynthriir took another sip, this one longer than the others, and seemed to stuggle a little bit before continuing, "What drives me forward more than anything though is the need to find me family and my people. "I see other families in the cities, all together in a happy sense of belonging. It is truly a happy sight. I want to have that feeling, to find the family that would take me in for being me. The people that don't turn their back just because my skin is darker than theirs. "I have fears though. Why did my parents leave me alone, to live on by myself, at such a young age? Where they protecting me from something? I also want to know about my people. I want to know why people hate my kin so much? Are we truly as evil as everyone whispers about? And if we are, then do I really want to find my own people," another sip, "My family..." Shynthriir stopped at that. It pained him to retall the story again, but he know that if he asked enough people, the ones that cared to ask, that he would find something. He would eventually learn of the answers he has been looking for for so long. |

Darrius eyed the man. An interesting story, very interesting. They shared a similar history, of being abandoned of sorts, and left to the wild. Darrius then found comfort in the dark shadows that have been his friends and family for many years. “Those are questions many seek, but few find the answers to. As to what you are, that makes no difference. It is who you are and what you make of yourself. That is truly who you are.” The mage sipped the half-filled glass, looking into the liquid as if he could see in it the future. Darrius pondered the drow’s story. “I find that no race in particular is evil, or good, nor neutral. Each has the average population being a certain alignment, but each race also have those of opposite viewpoints. This makes us the intelligent beings we are. You shouldn’t judge a person based on the average. People who do are simply ignorant and simple minded. They don’t go far in life or have healthy relationships.” He sighed and leaned back. “But who am I to lecture? I shouldn’t ramble like this. It is probably of no help to you at all.” Darrius let the remaining ale slide down his throat. |

SHynthriir listened to the words of the man as he finished his second cup of ale. Each word went through his head, most of which were many he had heard before. The words he had heard that were new though, stuck yet more new hope, and then more fears. The quest for truth would be a difficult one, for in every answer there was always both good and bad. Shynthriir looked again at the man, Darrius, who had graciously given him both advice and some good ale. "I thank you for such knid words and hope they aid me well in my search for the truth. I feel I must take my leave now, unless you have more to say." Shynthriir didn't move, but waited for a responce, waiting a few seconds for an answer. |

Darrius grinned. The man had been good company on such a drab evening. He stood and pulled his hood back over his head. "I can't say that I do. Take care. We'll meet again soon. I assure you." With that, he gave an almost evil smile and vanished into the shadows. A deep, rumbling laughter echoed threw out the inn. ((Thought I should seem a little evil, since that is my alignment! ))
