Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Renate Villerius was exploring Talas City when she saw a cozy looking tavern in a corner of the street. It had a lovely, colourful sign that said: Elfsong Tavern. It looked very inviting and the vampiress walked across the street to get a better look. She stood in front of the window and looked inside. It was crowded and music was playing. Laughter could be heard and the people inside seemed to have a great time. Renate smiled and decided to stop by for a drink. And maybe she'd meet some new friends too. She sure hoped so.

She looked around. The furniture was very old-fashioned but classy. The wooden tables and chairs looked quite comfortable. There was also a fireplace and Renate spotted an empty chair next to it. It was a cold night and the vampiress kept her hands warm in her pockets. But she didn't have to anymore. Renate walked past many crowded tables and sat on the empty chair. She put her sleeves back to warm her hands at the fire. The vampiress sighed relieved as she felt the warmth of the flames on her freezing hands. She felt better already. A cup of tea would also be appreciated and Renate ordered a cup when a barmaid passed her to bring a few pints to a group of cheering men that sat next to her.

Her cup of tea was brought to the vampiress soon and she took a sip. As she felt the warm tea in her mouth, fall down her throat, she relaxed. Renate felt at ease now and she leaned towards the flames in the fireplace and stared at the shapes of the fire. It was interesting to watch and it didn't bore easily. Only some company could improve this blessed night.

Aeri was the bard playing that night, dancing and playing her flute at the same time... Not an easy task and one she only recently mastered. It was a busy and wonderful night at the tevern and she enjoyed it a lot, not only because she would be paid well tonight, but because of the liveliness of it. It was hard to feel down and brood about Sephiroth and the challenge she had given him.

The tune was a quick elvish tune, one she learned, like many of her songs, in Cascadia. Aeri twirled and stepped with the rhythm and her aura of a light breeze was cool against her skin and seemed to dance with her.

Finally, the song came to a dramatic rise and with it, she made a quick gesture with one hand and suddenly all her movements were twice as fast and mist began to billow around her feet as the last, ringing note sung out from the flute.

The round of applause filled the room as Aeri bowed deeply in thanks. The mists dissipated quickly and her movements returned to normal as she stepped down from the stage, allowing the next group of bards to perform, a group of storytellers.

Not yet ready to go to her room for the night, the air genasi lingered and noticed a woman sitting by the fire, seemingly chilly. Aeri was rarely anything but chilly, her skin always cool to the touch and she liked it that way. When she neared the fire, her temperature didn't rise in the least.

The vampiress was still staring into the fire when bards began playing music. It was lively music and it made Renate smile. It was elvish music, she knew and she hummed along. When the speed of the music increased the vampiress frowned and looked back to see who was playing. She was a very talented flute player. Renate saw it was a young girl and as the song finished everyone applauded, including the vampiress. She was very impresed.

The vampiress turned around again and took a sip from her tea. Then she heard someone approach the fire and stand behind her. Renate frowned again and turned around. It was the bard. Maybe she was cold. She didn't look cold and when she neared the fire, it didn't seem to effect her in any way. Maybe she wanted to keep Renate company. That would be lovely.

''Hello,'' the vampiress greeted the girl with a smile. ''You play the flute very well. And it's a nice song you played. I really like it. Please, sit down,'' she offered and pointed at an empty chair opposite her. ''My name is Renate Villerius. Nice to meet you.''

The barmaid saw the girl and walked towards her. ''Would you like something to drink? You must be thirsty after all that flute playing,'' she said and waited patiently till the bard replied. People here were nice, Renate had noticed. The people that visited this tavern, or even worked at this tavern, were no exeption.

"I'll have some water, please," she said to the barmaid, before taking the invitation to sit across from the other woman, slipping the flute into the bag that hung at her side.

"Thank you. I actually just started getting good at it. I enjoy it almost more than the lap harp, my first instrument, but the problem with the flute is that I can't sing and play at the same time. I'm Aeri Azrael."

There was something about this Renate that didn't mark her as a human, but Aeri had never met a vampire, so couldn't know what she was. "So, how long have you been in Talas? I don't remember seeing your around before, and I often play here."

As she spoke, Aeri pulled her hair forward and began braiding it. Not a fancy job, but enough to keep her long hair from clinging to her neck.

Renate watched the barmaid disappear again. She soon came back with a glass of water. ''There you go, miss,'' she said and off she went again. The vampiress grinned at the barmaid. Her fangs were exposed now she smiled. She quickly looked at the bard. Maybe Aeri didn't know she was a vampire. Not everyone could tell immediately.

''As you can see, I'm a vampire,'' she said, touching her fangs with her tongue. ''But I won't attack you, don't worry, Aeri. I can control myself most of the time. It does bother me at night sometimes. But I don't get out much after midnight. And if I do, I go to deserted places to make sure I won't be tempted to hurt anyone. And I often order blood at taverns for daemons. That way, my body doesn't make me drink a humans blood. And I've just had a cup of blood yesterday. So I'm fine,'' she explained. Renate rolled her eyes. Why had she said all that? She'd probably frightened the bard now.

''Are you a good singer then?'' she asked, changing the subject. ''I would like to hear you sing. I'll play the flute to accompany you. I can play a little bit,'' she offered. ''Unless you prefer to just play music. That's fine too of course.''

''Well, I came to Imythess several months ago. But I had to leave. Family matters. It was then, I was bitten by a vampire. I was on my way home one night and a man surprised me in a dark alley. He grabbed me and bit me in my neck. I escaped and got back home. When I saw the wound in the mirror, I knew what had happened and went back. I attacked the vampire from behind and hit him with a stick. Otherwise, he would have killed me. I then drank some of his blood. If I hadn't done that, I would have bled to death. And really, being immortal isn't that bad. I came back to Imythess a few days ago. So maybe you arrived after I left. That would explain why you haven't seen me around before.''

"Thank you," she told the barmaid, taking the glass and drinking deeply.

Aeri listened with more curiousity than fear. She had learned long ago that people don't always follow the way the rest of their race did. And from what she could tell about Renate, she was not showing any hostility.

"I am glad that you are not as some vampires I have heard about. Killing without a thought. Although the worst og monsters I have met was not a vampire," her expression darkened with anger and a flash of hate as she thought again of Sephiroth.

"I enjoy singing. Whether I'm good or not, well, thats for others to decide," she smiled. "Perhaps we should play together some day. I'd do it tonight, but I do not want to take away these guys' crowd. Common bardic courtesy," Aeri gestured to the storytellers who had a good crowd, listening aptly to their words.

Renate was glad Aeri didn't mind she was a vampire. Sometimes people ran away in fear as soon as they found out. Like she would attack them and suck them dry without a second thought. Renate wasn't like that. During the day anyway.

''And I'm glad you don't mind me being a vampire. Some do. Most people I meet are very narrow-minded. They just assume I'm an evil killing-machine. Because they think all vampires are. I am only dangerous at night though. But they refuse to believe that. They want to believe the worst. I hate people like that. What kind of monster did you meet if you don't mind me asking?'' Renate asked.

She saw the hate appear in the bard's eyes. This person or creature had obviously upset her a lot. There wasn't a doubt in the vampiress her mind that Aeri would only despise someone who was truly evil and deserved to be hated.

''If he or she has hurt you in any way, I hope you will one day be able to take your revenge. No one should get away with something horrible.'' Renate said no more on the subject. If Aeri wanted to talk about it, she'd tell her more. It was up to her. The vampiress didn't want to press the matter any further. That wasn't lady-like.

''Yes, we could perform together sometime. Or we could sing a song together. I enjoy singing as well and I'm pretty good at it. One of our friends could play the flute. We could play at a ball. Don't they have balls here in Imythess? If there isn't, we should suggest there be one. What do you think? I'm a good dancer and I haven't danced for a really long time. What about you? We could even ask these storytellers to tell the guests stories. I like all kinds of entertainment.''

"A man by the name of Sephiroth, is the cruelest, most disgusting creature upon this great land. Me and him have had many battles, almost as soon as I came here. I never meant to be a warrior..." she said sadly. "But it was forced upon me. I could not turn away as he attempted to burn Kellen. I could not step aside and let his undead servants attack this very city. Never in a million years did I expect to do such battle, nor become more of a paladin than a bard," Aeri watched the fire and her aura suddenly became stronger, almost violently blowing her lightweight clothing and the sudden breeze making the fire billow out larger.

She took a deep breath before continuing, letting herself calm. "I appreciate your offer, but I will not accept it. I don't want anyone else to earn the enmity of such a man, nor his seemingly endless hate."

Aeri wighed, suddenly weary. "I believe our battles will continue until one of us lay dying on the ground..."

Renate's other questions had gone forgotten by Aeri. It was not meant to be out of rudeness, but when she began thinking about Sephiroth and wondering where he was and hoping he was not burning any more defenseless villages, it made the air genasi more than angry or sad. It made her enraged and full of grief.

Renate listened to Aeri talk about her enemy. His name sounded very evil. Sephiroth. The vampiress noticed the change in Aeri. Her behaviour changed. She was angry. Very angry. She hated this man more than anything. That was obvious.

''Why did he want to burn Kellen? And where is he now? Is he still here in Imythess? Or has he gone away to his own kingdom? Does he have any other enemies? Enemies that may have killed him? Or don't you even know he's still alive or not?'' Renate asked. She'd never met a man that was evil. She didn't hate anyone. But she would probably hate Sephiroth if she met him. The way Aeri described him, he sounded like a horrible, despicable man.

''Fine. I just want you to know you don't have to fight him alone if you don't want to or if you haven't got the strength. I will be there for you when you need a friend. So, how powerful is this man? Can you defeat him? Or is he stronger than you? Is there hope?''

The vampiress was worried. Aeri was a bard, not a warrior. And this Sephiroth was a warrior. He sounded like the kind of man that had been fighting and killing people his entire life. He was probably strong. Very strong. A very skilled warrior. How could Aeri fight such a man? Alone, she couldn't. But Renate would watch her back. She would make sure her friend wouldn't get hurt. She wouldn't allow it.

"I thank you for your offer of friendship and value it," a whisper of a smile flitting across her face. "As to your questions, he is still here as far as I know... He burns because his only goal in life is to utterly destroy humankind. That is why he burned Kellen and set his undead army against this very place, Talas. He has many enemies I believe, but he also has allies. I hope he's alive still. I have a score to settle with him..." at this her eyes flashed suddenly, like lightning in a stormcloud and her breeze aura became more forceful for a moment then died a little.

"I believe there is hope. Every day, my inborn Genasi powers grow stronger as does my magic. I've met him in battle before and I believe that I will someday be able to stop him and if not me, then someone else will take up my place and stop him."

As she spoke, Aeri touched the scar on her wrist absent-mindedly. It was from her first battle with him, a burn mark form the fireball he had sent at her. She hadn't been quick enough to block it.

"I will hold onto hope as long as it takes."

Aeri's words sounded rather sad. She didn't really like talking about this Sephiroth, the vampiress thought.

''Why does he wish to destroy humankind? Most evil people I meet just want to rule humankind. I know I do. The world would be a better place if I was more powerful. But don't worry about Sephiroth. I'm sure many warriors are after him as we speak. He won't be able to hurt anyone ever again. I too will fight him if we ever meet. I will kill him for you,'' Renate promised.

Her friend seemed a bit upset. She was rubbing one of her scars. ''You got that while fighting him?'' the vampiress speculated. She thought it was. Otherwise she wouldn't be touching it right now. ''I'll hurt him too. I will. I'll make him scream. And I'll make him apologize to you.''

The vampiress was glad to hear Aeri's powers were growing. That way she might be able to kill her enemy herself. And that would really boost her confidence. Renate knew if she would have an enemy, she would feel much better about herself, if she would kill him. She would feel a lot stronger then.

''I hope you will become strong enough to kill him yourself. How strong is he? Is he much stronger than you? Or can you catch up with him and become an even better warrior than him?'' Renate asked so she could understand the situation even better.

"Who truly understands the heart of a mad man?" she said bitterly. "I do not care if he hurts me again. I will hurt him back, myself. I grow stronger and someday I will defeat him. You do not need to kill someone who you have no quarrel with yet. I would prefer to deal with my enemy myself," as she spoke, her eyes flashed with silver-white light several times. It disturbed her to hear Renate speak of becoming powerful just to rule. Aeri had been taught that power should be used to defend, protect, and serve people who did not have it. Thats why she strived to grow in power, both in combat and magic.

"Yes, I received this scar during our first encounter with one another. He sent a fireball at me that was too fast for me to block or deflect. He is not much stronger than me, or at least I do not believe so. I have hurt him in battle as well. In our first, we both had to give up the fight as we were both badly hurt. At least I was able to stop him from destroying Kellen that night..."
