Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Varila sat at one of the tables in the inn, waiting for Kore. She had gotten slightly ahead of him in her good humor, but she still hadn't forgotten about the Flame of Alumri and its reaction to the strange new friend she had made. He seemed to have a better understanding of her than anyone else. With a smile, she just asked for the usual cup of wine, since she usually didn't drink ale. Its taste was too rough for her, and it left a bitterness on her tongue that was not worth it. The last time she had had ale, she had gone to her home at the time, and had a long night with Mirro, confessing all of her fears and hatreds to him. Actually, she still remembered that as a pleasant experience.

Her eyes brightened as she saw the door open, and she put down her glass to look up and see who it was.

*As they were talking on the way to the bar, he got distracted as he saw his Penalia showcasing Entem as a bear* Come one, come all and see the big scary bear. Its got the look of a bear, but the teeth of a shark and the wings of a dragon. *He sighed and looked back to where Varila went, and noticed she was already gone, the doors to the bar swingly slightly. Chuckling some, he continued to the doors she went through.

Something about her intrigued him, for first she was pointing fingers, calling him a murderer, now they were going to chat over a few drinks.--how strange it is the intentions of a woman. Never changing, but always different...--When he walked through the entrance, he noticed her out of the crowd of people, drinking her wine and looking straight at him. Her eyes upon him made him smile as he walked past the bar and called out to the bartender.* Give me a pint of the house ale over to the table where the lovely lady with the wine sits. *While the order was being taken care of, he walked over to her table* Excuse me fair lady, would this seat happen to be taken? *he smiled wide, knowing that it wasn't, only doing it because he wondered what she would say*

"In other circumstances, I would say yes," she said playfully, "but it seems that you enjoy dancing with death. After all, death seems to thrive within you." A hand flew to her mouth as she realized what she had said. This could lead to uncomfortably long explanations. Her eyes seemed to drop downward as if they were weighted, and her smile faded. If it was reacting so strongly, the Flame could not be kept from him forever. Her aura was suppressed, but many people seemed to be mentioning the word goddess, remembering the night when she had danced so freely on the tables and roused the people to celebration. The performer who played music smiled at her, remembering the day he had played for the goddess who danced so beautifully.

"Actually," she began, trying to divert the topic from power, "the last time I was here, I believe I was dancing on tables surrounded by drunk men. It was the night of our homeland's anniversary, the one that has been so welcoming..." Her voice was rueful. After all, it felt strange not to call Leirenne her homeland anymore. But she was a goddess here and a demoness there, so there was no reason to be sad.

Dancing on the tables? Hmm....that might be something I would want to see.*he chuckled, and took the seat across from her. With her presumption of his "dances with death", he raised an eyebrow and smiled.* Yes, you're one hundred percent correct. I am Koresoto, the necromancer from Skyshroud. Maybe you've heard of me- I was aptly dubbed the "master of the dead". I was only a master for my extensive knowledge about the things I deal with. Truly, I thought that the name was over-the-top, especially when I would be compared to someone with just as much power as yourself, maybe even more.

*He leaned in closer and whispered to her* You may be a god, but for anyone to make my black diamond to react as you do is something special, for only those with an immense power over death could make it flare like this. *he unbuttoned his shirt halfway and opened it to reveal the black glow between his bare chest, pulsing right above his ribs. After a few moments the maid came around with his drink and he buttoned up his shirt, sat back, and grabbed his ale, nodding to her* Thank you ma'am. *When she left, he sipped his ale looking at Varila* I believe our meeting was not accidental. Whatever the reason may be, I think fate has something planned for us.

"The Flame of Alumri reacts to powers similar to itself, but there are few that can match it. It was born in the Pit of Alumri, one of the most foul and desolate places in this world. Of course the Flame has to be powerful. It has kept me alive for so long when I should have been dead, with Mirro and Ashaela..." She averted her eyes and sighed, looking at the black glow when he unbuttoned his shirt. "Ah, yes, it is as if your power is an extension of the Flame, a part of it. After all, only some of it took me as a host. It can live and thrive on its own, just like it showed in the mirror, the one that showed my death."

She drank down some of the dark wine and smiled softly. "I suppose we've both been exposed to death for a while. My foster mother died when I was younger, only about three years ago, and my two brothers and real parents died when I was only eight." She gazed at him curiously, as if it didn't matter that most of her family had died. After all, she had better memories of Laron and Ashaela, of the time when she had come home for three days to discover that her dear brother had been married. "Fate has conspired this. How could it happen any other way. She recoiled as the Flame raged within her, yearning to join with the power that was so similar to itself. Her eyes half-closed, Varila leaned back easily, her green cloak gone from her shoulders.

"Fate has also contrived a new opportunity for you, Kore, an escape from this service of death," she said. "If you wish to know we can discuss it later at my temple, but for now, I would rather I knew more about you. For one, where did you get that monstrous scar that you showed at the graveyard?"

The Flame of Alumri...name sounds familiar, but a whole other conversation in itself...lets leave that for a different day, eh.*He felt a pull towards her from his diamond, and when he was leaning over the table, the pull was strong, but when she leaned back, it faded. He buttoned his shirt up and sat down.

As he heard her talk on about her life and how most of her family was deceased, and he felt a bit jealous.* I sympathize your situation, but I wish I had even that...my mother and father died when I was little when my birthhome was set aflame by vandals. Then a lich named Lim Dûl adopted me and brought me up following the path of the lich. He seemed like a vile person, but no one knew how methodical he really was. He always needed a reason to do anything, he would say, "Why do it if you don't have to?"- it was something I kind of picked up on. It's been five years since I layed a tombtstone at the head of his grave.

*He then grabbed his mug and took a few long sips of it. After hearing her comment about his scar, he looked at her with a small grin.* What, that scar? It came from a place to the west...I can't remember the name of it though. I was still working on my powers then. The locals were awkward, but welcoming. There found a grave site that called to me. That is the place where I found the black diamond.

I had joined a local faction called Fate. We roamed the country, pillaging and just causing confusion. We were never radical-- we all wanted to have fun, and it just happened to be illegal. One day however, an enemy group called the Red Zhien(((pronounced "see-hen")). It was a vicious fight. Halfway through though the leader of the Zhien ambushed me while I was casting a spell on the ogre they had brought against us. His sword was the source of that scar. But my comrades left me for dead and took the glory of the win. After time and a run-in with a friendly druid, my scar was cured, but the druid clan in skyshroud believed in leaving scars to show the wounded mistakes so it would stay as a constant reminder. I've bore this mistake eversince I was wounded...
*By this time he was looking down on his mug, his fringer circling the lip of the mug. After a few moments he grabbed it and gulped down a quarter of the mug.

Looking up, he felt like he was seeking sympathy and forced a laugh.* I'm sorry for talking on like that, its an old habbit of mine. On a brighter note, I'm made it to the finals in the Dragonmaw tournament that's been going on. The fights took so long that they extended the battles past the celebration. Those matches were alright, but I suppose I gauged myself wrong when entering it. Not to brag, but I kinda got bored in the quarter-finals.

"Wonderful," she said, and she had felt the pull too, growing stronger as time went on. Such a familiar power, yet it was threatening if the Flame wished to conquer it. "It didn't matter that my parents and brothers died, anyway. I never thought much of them. After all, they deserved it. It was them who made the reputation of House Sashasta, of me being a demon. Laron is still alive, though, and he was the only one who understood. If there weren't so many people here, I could show you." Her expression had grown somber now, as if it was painful to talk about her family.

"I used to have three brothers, the youngest was Sorun, then Urean, and Laron was the eldest. My parents were negligent as it was, so there was little I could do if Sorun and Urean decided that they were going to humiliate me. After all, I was only eight." She closed her eyes in the pain of it all, just barely holding back tears. She had been forced to grow up so much in that year, after the time when her house had burned down, and she had looked after Laron, sacraficing so that he could live, so that she could thank him for all that he'd done for her.

"My home was also burned down in a fire, but I went in hoping to save someone, so that I wouldn't be all alone. I know it was selfish, as I was concerned with who would keep me company if everyone else was gone, but then I found Laron, and saved him. Afterward, he took the place of my father, and the rest of my vile family. Yet now, it's back to the way I thought it would be. Laron enshrouds himself in bitterness, and it's as if he could just as well be dead." She took a deep breath, slightly regaining her control over her emotions. She took a deep drink of her wine and looked at him flatly. "It sounds like you at least had a place to come home to at one time, so feel grateful for that. I only had a chamber of endless torture, one that I couldn't have escaped without that fire."

*he sighed as she continued telling him her troubled past, and he for the first time, he felt that he met somebody else who was familiar with pain as he was. Something about her compelled him to feel a little more sympathetic towards.--Could it be the ale or myself...hmm....odd indeed-- He usually never felt feelings towards anyone, but for some reason, her plight tugged on his heart somewhat.

This feeling was soon dismissed as he shook his head and excorcised that emotion out of his body. Doing so however made him begin to sweat, so he drank some more of his drink and smiled at her.* We may have our own personal hell, but the ice that cools us from the fires of that vile place is in the forms of our friends. I've known few friends, but those people were the ones who helped me through some of my darkest times, but in the end they gave their life for me, saying that my time is not now, for something great fate has in store for me. I have only found acquaintences in this area, but am still searching for those select few to call friends. And as for the crowd, I have a solution for that, but it involves a walk, maybe to the docks. At this time of night, there's not many mooring or departing, but I'll leave that decision up to you

"Are you leaving already?" she asked. "Why?" Her eyes were downcast as she realized that she had so many feelings swimming through her head; unspoken pity, sorrows of her own, curiosity, and compassion, one that she had felt for few. "Yes, it does seem as if people such as ourselves can only find a few true friends. My own hell only haunts me at night, in the dreams I still have, about all of them, about what their deaths should have been instead of what they were. Mirro was killed by his jealous sister, when he would have rather died an honorable death at my side. Ashaela was killed by a bandit in the street, and her corpse was simply left unfound. None of my friends have ever had a grave in which they lie, and I cannot see them again, for when I die, I will simply fade from this world into the unknown."

She drank down the last dregs of her wine and looked at him, seeing how he was trying to bury something. "What is it you hide?" she asked. "And I speak not in terms of words, but in terms of emotions. Something lies hidden behind you, and yet I would rather ask than guess and find myself wrong."

Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere unless its time to go.((. "If there weren't so many people here, I could show you." is what you said before my last post, but whatever, just disregard it ^_^)) *He turned his head left, then right, then turned his head so he was looking into her eyes* And by the looks of it, this night's already started.

*He thought about what it took to be his friend--respect, loyalty, compassion. He required those things to consider someone a true friend, for those three traits is what he'd show his friends in return.--She seems like someone who could be my friend...--* Maybe its possible for the two of us to be friends. We both share a common interest and I'm sure we can have a lot of fun together.

*His emotions were in check, but still at a breaking point. Her flame was some sort of magnet that pulled his black diamond towards it, almost taunting it to take control of its host. When she asked about what he was hiding, he figured he wasn't that good at hiding other than at night.* Hiding...the things that I fear--emotions. Only my master has ever recieved any emotion worth talking about...untill now. Hearing your story tugged on my heart and I felt sympathetic, for I knew your plight and experienced my own. Either it be or items of darkness or my own twisted mind, but I feel an attraction to you that I normally wouldn't feel towards a stranger. *After he drank the last droplets of his ale, he called over the waitress. He gave her hs mug and her wine glass.* Gimme another round, and check periodically so I can ask for more. *he flipped her a bronze piece and looked down. He just realized what he said and he felt like a complete idiot.--Oh jeez Kore, you and your big mouth...then again she asked what I was hiding...--*

"It's alright," she said coolly, seeing that he must have felt a little awkward. "Most people aren't so blunt with me. It's all so much flattery and disguises." She sighed as she tried in vain to suppress her power for a short while, but it stayed strong, creating an even stronger pull.((when I said that I could show you, I meant through different methods.)) "Yes, that would be good if we could be friends, but first I would like to ask you a question. Who compelled you so to kill that man?" Her icy eyes met his, a little softer than usual, but they still held the hardened edge that came from the pain in her life.

She drank down the last dregs of her wine and set the glass down on the table. "This place was one of the first that I came to when first I arrived in Talas, and it was here that I first met Pelor. Back then, I was so young, so much more innocent. I suppose it was time for me to mature even farther as a goddess. All know me here in Talas; after all, I am their patron deity, but in the beginning I was just the youngest goddess, trying to make myself heard."

Somehow she felt comfortable talking to Kore as she had no other stranger. Was it simply a bond of similar powers, or did it go deeper, deeper than she had imagined it to go?

((I see now ))*He felt reassured and a bit more confident now that she didn't react negatively to what he said. He raised his head up and cracked a smile to lighten the mood.* The man who forced me to do those things was a shapeshifting pirate named Connodor. I would've just been on my merry way and not done a thing he said, but he polymorphed into a poisonous spider and threatened to inject his venom into me if I didn't follow his orders, however undirected they were. When I was done with his deeds, I cast him off into the waters that suuround this bustling city. I haven't seen him around, but I really do wish to. If I ever found that bastard...*His hand balled into a fist under the table, the black diamond channelling energy to his hand, fueled by his rage. His eyes began to become as dark as the diamond that resided inside him.

He then remembered that she was there in front of him witnessing all this. His face then turned red and the color of his eyes returned to their natural watery silver color. The power concentrated in his hand didn't return to him. Instead it drifted towards Varila and seeped into her body, merging with the Flame of Alumri. He then held up his hand and looked at it.* What just happened? *He looked at her and realized what it was that happened- His Black Diamond recognizes items like itself, and when it finds one more powerful than it, the diamond contributes a portion of it and it's owner's power to the item, strengthening the item's power--almost like a gift of recognition. He hoped what happened didn't harm her.*

ooc: this transfer of power has given you the spell "speak with dead"((I bought it for you))

She recoiled slightly as the new power entered her, giving her an increased sense of security. It felt glorious to feel it coursing through her, something that bonded them further than the flame would be able to. "My theory was correct," she said, looking at her hand to see that the aura blazed more fiercely than ever. "Your flame and my diamond are linked in more ways than a similar source of power. It may be that yours is a fragment of mine, or they could be completely different sources. Out of curiosity, how did you come across your power? Was it born to you, or did you attain it by different means?" Her eyes gazed into his, studying the dark shadows that danced within.

She could remember the day when she had received the Flame; it had left her abed for three days. Three days of torture, three days of pain, and two sleepless nights filled with fear and agony. "Are you alright?" she asked. Sometimes when a portion of the Flame left her for a time, she felt weakened, as if it were her only source of energy.

*He nodded and sighed in relief as she seemed okay from the surge of fresh power. As she talked about her theory, he was curious as to what she meant by "her theory", but he figured he'd find it out sooner or later...especially if he was involved in it.* Yes, my diamond and your flame are similar, but I doubt you got your flame from where I recieved my diamond. My master had given it to me. Lim Dúl had shown me the black diamond after a year under his tutelage. He continued to say that he was going to thrust it into my chest, and if it rejected me...I would die. At that point I had nothing to lose and he assured me that this power was meant for me. He had found it in the cemetary he found me in.

Needless to say I didn't die from the joining, but I passed out for a month he told me, fighting off the influence of the diamond, making it my own. He kept me held in a cemetary full of wandering souls days after I awoke. He told me to master the dead I must first connect to them. I spent days there speaking with them, learning of their cultures and history. Then more of the wandering souls of the area heard of my name and came to talk to me. One even mentioned something about your flame, which is why I wasn't too confused when you talked of it.

*He looked at her with a feeling that occurecnes like these were not something to take lightly. There had to be some reason their paths were crossed, and his gut told him he would soon find out all the answers to his questions. When she asked if he was alright, he tilted his head and smiled* Yeah, I'm fine...whenever I concentrate power through my diamond, it doesn't harm me. I was born with these powers that I have here, its just that the black diamond worked to unlock the skills I now possess and channel and amplify the energy I output. Although I use it too much and I will become exhausted. *He then finished his drink and looked outside noticing the cool breeze coming from the streets. Glancing back to her, he raised an eyebrow.* You want to go somewhere? This place has a stagnant feel to it.

"I never knew that I would find someone with a power so similar to the Flame, but I was born with the powers of Necromancy, although the Flame awakened them further than I ever could have on my own. Still, if this were the full power of the Flame of Alumri, I would be dead by now." She smiled at his offer to go elsewhere and then she had an idea.

"Come," she said softly, "and I'll take you to my temple. There we can talk without the worry of listeners, and there are many things that I can show to you more easily there, without affecting other people." She stood and pressed three gold pieces into the waitress' hand, smiling brightly. Then she led the way outside, where she could lead him to the heart of Talas, where her temple lay.
