Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

“It still doesn’t look right,” Isithradia said, looking up from her paper where she was practicing her letters. Her hands were smudged with ink and there were a few smudges on the paper along with a three sets of scribbly, slightly lopsided letters. Though her expression was slightly wilted that she couldn’t get them right her light blue-rimmed violet eyes were sparkling with determination.
“Keep trying Hun, ye’ll get it if ye keep trying. Make another row of letters,” urged the pixie who was sitting on the table in front of the small girl’s paper. “Yer doin’ fine Hun. Look, even Normir likes them!” She pointed up at the golden eagle perched on a chair to her left.
Isithradia sighed and nodded, sending her red-gold curls bouncing all over her shoulders. “If you say so Maeve.” She dipped a quill in ink and then started on a new set of letters, her brow was furrowed and she was biting in her lip in concentration.
Some might think it odd that a little girl was in a tavern, and practicing her letters at that! But it was noon so there weren’t any drunks there and not many people. Besides, where else could she go?

A girl, nearly at the age that she would be an adult, and then past the stage of childhood, opened the door to the tavern, an empty mug balanced on her forehead.

It was not easily decided what she was, drunk or sober, and judging from the fact she was humming a rather upbeat tune, though rather bawdy, most would decide that she was, indeed, a drunken fool. If these people attempted to steal her gold, or some such thing, however, they would be met with a rather thunderous and sound thumping, involving a fireball, magic missle, dagger, or, if the girl was extremely annoyed, the mug.

Her ears were visible, and they had a rather severe point to them, and her smile was a twisted smirk. She snapped her mouth shut on the words of the song as she noticed the child, and looked at her warily. "...Eh heh..."

With a flick of her wrist she had snatched the mug from her head and was scuttling towards the bartender. "Do you have any new wine shipments?" After being assured they did not, she stalked over to a table, and plopped down in the seat, scowling angrily.

Isithradia only glanced up from what she was doing with Zin walked in, half-listening when she spoke with the bartender. When the other sat down she paused with her quill in the air, looking over at Zin with wide, curious eyes.
Maeve noticed of course, and made a ‘tisk’ sound. “Stop looking at the drunk, Hun, and pay attention to what yer doin’ before ye spill ink on yer paper.”
Isithradia’s gaze snapped back to her work and she continued on with writing her letters. Every now and then though, she’d sneak a glance over towards Zin when she thought Maeve wasn’t looking.
Maeve did notice and let out what could be called an exasperated squeak. “Hun if ye don’t quit lookin’ at the drunk and make yer letters then ye won’t get any sweets.”
“But Maeve!” Adia yelped, starring at the pixie with wide eyes. “You promised!”
“And ye promised to do yer work!” She replied tartly.
Adia grumbled but looked back down at her paper and continued to scribble her letters.

Trying desperately to ignore the roaring of her stomach, the half-elf whimpered slightly, one hand tightening around the mug in her hand. Her free hand tapped on the table, and she wished she still had that bottle of wine from the celebrations that had occurred a few weeks before. That had been a good wine, and straight from the elves. Elves had always been better at making food and drink, if you asked her.

Zin's ears twitched slightly, and she shot a volatile glare at the pixie, then stood. She strode over to the table, eyes glittering. "I," She stated quite clearly, "Am certainly not a drunk."

She looked rather angry, and her left eye twitched slightly. Her expression suddenly went blank, and she dropped into a chair. "It's more fun if you act drunk, because people don't expect you to be able to hear them, and don't bother you that often."

She had hooked one arm on the top of the chair, and the her other elbow rested on the table, and her head rested on the attached hand. "And," Her face turned to the young girl, "It's sometimes easier to get the letters straight if you tilt the paper at the same angle as your letters tend to lean towards."

“If ye say so,” muttered the pixie though she got to her feet, she having been sitting on the table, and turned to Zin. “I apologize to ye then, for callin’ ye drunk.” With gossamer wings outstretched, she preformed a curtsy then sat back down.
The fact that an adult, or another very close to being one was paying attention to her, much less giving her advice, meant a lot to her. She nodded rapidly then, after turning the paper at an angle, tried again. After three straight though still scribbly letters, she looked up at the older girl with wide eyes. She had been right, her letters were straight so that meant the other person was smart right? She thought as much and told her so. “You’re really smart.”

Zin smiled at the pixie happily. "That's all I ask." She looked at Isithradia with a raised eyebrow.

"I suppose I might be in some ways, but most of it's just logic." She smiled again. "I take it either from past experience or I look at whatever the problem seems to be, and I try to find a way that seems to work."

Her grin turned into a false grimace. "That's not always a smart thing to do though, if it's a life or death situation it can end up very badly if you make the wrong decision..." She winced at that, and pulled up the left sleeve of her shirt, revealing a rather nasty scar wrapping all the way around her wrist.

"You're what? Five, six?" The girl continued with a raised eyebrow. "Being smart doesn't depend on what you know, it depends on your age and what you know."

She tapped a part of the paper near the letters, and continued, "For someone your age, learning your letters and doing that well is smart, hey, you're probably doing better than some of the people in the tavern!" She gave a quiet chuckle, one with an odd ring to it, a repressed sound.

“I’m six.” Her head had cocked to one side as she listened to Zin but then it straightened and she smiled. “So when I’m your age, I’ll be smarter?” She looked up at the other hopefully after carefully setting her quill down. “How old are you anyway? What’s your name? I’m Isithradia, she’s Maeve and he’s Normir.” She pointed first to herself, then to the pixie and then to the eagle. “And how come you’re here if you aren’t drunk? Don’t drunk people come here?”

Zin looked a bit flustered. "Uh...Proabably, if you use your current knowledge right and build it up. Uhm....Around fifteen, sixteen, last time I checked the date...Nice to meet you, I'm Zin." She paused, shaking her head slightly at the unexpected rush of questions.

She sat back in her chair, pulling her sleeve back over the scar. "Well, it just seems like a fun thing to do..Besides, sometimes I can get some decent elven wine, and I can pretend that it was made by one of my old friends." She paused. "Now that I think about it, some of it could of been."

Zin suddenly snapped back to attention. "Yeah, I suppose drunks do come here, but they normally don't come here drunk. That's how they leave."

Adia nodded for each reply she was given not noticing the fact that Zin seemed somewhat flustered. “Oooh, they get drunk while they're here.” That’s why she was told not to come here at night. It wasn’t that they came drunk, it was that they got drunk when they came.
“How come you aren’t drunk then? Is it because they don’t have any of the wine stuff?” She looked at the other curiously, “Or because you don’t want to be drunk or is it--” “Hun, why don’t we not play twenty questions with Zin,” interrupted a greatly amused Maeve.
Adia reluctantly stopped with all her questions but never lost the curious look in her eyes.

Zin couldn't help but laugh now, despite the sincerity in the child's questions. At length, she managed to regain control over her laughter.

"Believe me, I've tried it before." She grinned slightly. "It's not easy to be, or even fun." She shrugged now. "But it is something to do."

((its alright ^-^ Sorry it took so long to reply, I’m at the beach and we only just got the internet connection up))

Maeve got to her feet on the table and walked over to where Adia’s inkpot rested. She picked up the lid that was about as big around as her head and screwed it onto the pot before returning to her seat.
“You’ve tried before?” It took only a little effort to close her mouth after it fell open in surprise. She shook her head, “Of course you have. All drunks have tried to get drunk before... I think.” She giggled before looking up at Zin and smiling. “Why don’t you do something instead of trying to get drunk?”

"...Hm..." Zin raised an eyebrow slightly, an automatic reflex, and not a question. At least, not to Isithadia.

"...That's a good question..." She bit her lip, and her head came down to rest on the table, almost in slow motion, and her hands went to the back of her head, gripped the hair tight, as if it was a lifeline. "...I don't know..." Her eyes were staring sightlessly at the dark wood beneath her head.

She shut her eyes, her forehead pressed against the wood. The wood was cold, and she let the cold sep from it into her skin. "...Just doesn't seem like there's anything else to do..."

'...I'm hopeless aren't I...' Her eyes shut tighter. 'Every thing is a liiiie! Scream in suffering foolish mortal! Lie in your PITY!' She managed to snicker at this inner voice, then she looked up again, eyes snapping open.

"S-sorry about that..."

Adia watched her curiously, silently. Her head was titled to one side as it was want to do and a few red-gold curls had slipped down to impair her vision. Something bad had spoken in Zin’s mind, she could tell. Things like that happened sometimes. When Zin looked up, she straightened her head and presented her with a bright smile. “Its okay.”
She carefully put her hands on the table as balance then stood up in her chair. Using one hand as balance, she leaned across the table and patted Zin’s cheek in what was meant to be a reassuring manner. She smiled at the older girl again though she didn’t sit back down in her chair, preferring to stand up in it for one reason or another.
“Maeve, can we go get sweets now? I think sweets will help Zin.” She nodded her head as she spoke, looking down at her pixie companion with wide ‘puppy-eyes’. “Pleaseeee?”
Maeve tilted her head back so she could look up at the little girl. After a moment she snorted but nodded. “All right Hon, if Zin wants to go with us then yes...Otherwise ye need to get back to yer letters.”
Adia looked back at Zin with the same large eyes. “Candy will make you feel better. Want to come with us?”

Zin stared at the girl in blank, vague shock for a few moments, her eyes just a tad dull, the glitter of intelligence in the eyes of all sentinent beings had vanished, if only for a moment. She shut her eyes again, rubbing at them vaguely, with a quiet determination, as if she could rub the voice away with her knuckles.

After a moment she returned the smile with her own, though it was rather forced, then suddenly the false smile seemed to fade, to be quickly swept away and replaced by a true grin. She started to speak, found the words stuck, didn't come out, then tried again. "Thank you. That would be...kind of you."

She paused. "If I wouldn't be a bother I'd love to come." Her smile didn't falter or fade now, and she looked absolutely happy, but inside her mind was churning, and screaming. Screaming at this strange intruder, trying to push it away, but unable to.

'Who are you?' Her ears twitched in agitation, 'I am you.' Her eyes narrowed fractionally. 'No, no you're not. I am! You can't be me if I am! You don't make s-' The voice laughed at her. 'And you do?' Her mind was screaming at it again, trying to push it out with wordless howls.

On the surface however, she was suddenly interested in a spot on the far wall, and didn't move for a few moments, then tapped the side of her head. "Sorry, sorry, I'm just...a bit tired. I'm fine." She stood up, and the words seemed a bit less convincing as she continued, "Nothing is wrong..." Her voice cracked just slightly, slipping out of pitch.

She sighed, running a hand through her own locks, which were running rampant over her features, and pushing them back. It glittered gold in the light that came in from the windows, and her eyes were open now, catching the light and they almost seemed to spark.

“It’s okay and you’re welcome,” she smiled up at the older girl and then landed with a thump as she jumped down from her chair. She piled all her sheets up into a stack, placing the bottle of ink and pen back in their case. All her supplies had been borrowed from the old lady she normally stayed with; the paper, ink, pen, and the small backpack she carried it all in.
“The candy store isn’t too far from here.” Each item was carefully put into the pack, she didn’t want anything to tear or spill. “It’s just down the street.” And then she was done with the pack on her back. “Are you ready?”
Maeve fluttered from table to Adia’s shoulder, settling herself among the child’s curls. “Down two streets Hon, not one,” she corrected
