Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

The evil upon her was like a foulness upon the air. It smothered her former self into black nothingness and gave such an aura that many creatures of the darkness fled from her coming. Silently and lethally she trekked through Calmonah searching for whatever her master desired. Ultimately, the Balance would be his and she would be the one to hand it to him, but for now she was in search of the great spider, Ungoliant. She would be a strong ally for the wizard and would strike terror into the very hearts of even the bravest warriors. Evidence of her presence was blatant: there were remains of those unfortunate enough to become trapped in her webbing.

Deeper into the heart of the forest the cobwebs began to grow thick until she was no longer able continue lest she get caught and suffer the same fate as so many before her. He black eyes took on a dark scarlet glow and the air surged with a magical force. In her hands developed a fireball and she threw it vehemently at the webbing around her. She raised her staff and shouted the words to the spell with force and fire burst from the air and her elemental stood awaiting her command. "Burn it all, leave nothing but a smoldering pile of ashes."

Black smoke rose from deep within the woods and could be seen from very far distances. She would find Ungoliant and return her to the master. The elemental was a juggernaut of flames and the spiderwebs lit well. Fire engulfed everything and the bright light sparkled off of her black pegasus pendant. It was once crystal but now was pure onyx, poisoned by evil like every other aspect of hre life. The red-orange light danced aross its smooth surface.

Finally she came upon the dwelling of the great spider, a stony cavern that led down under the earth. With a wave of her hand the elemental vanished and she began her descent into the spider's lair. "Ungoliant!" she called out. Her voice reverberated along the walls and sent a riple of sound to every crevace of the cave. "You know who comes for you Ungoliant! There is no time to waste, you master of old calls to you once more to do his bidding. Will you not answer him?" She stood with no response for a period of time but she knew that the great spider had heard her.

From the left the arachnid emerged, sliva dripping from her fangs. Her voice was harsh and unpleasant to the ears, but she spoke none the less. "I will answer to him, but there will be a cost. I will take you as my prize!" Ungoliant lunged at Lómen. She was incredibly agile for how large she was. Her body filled the cave and she was easily four or five times the Elf's size. Lómen readied her bow. "Do not make me use this beast! I am lethaly skilled with this weapon." The scarlet glow of her eyes strengthened but Ungoliant did not let up her assault. Blinking behind the beast she fired one shot, a single ice arrow. It struck the spider in the under belly and the beast bellowed in rage. Another arrow was readied and loosed nearly before the beast even felt the bite of the first and her knees collapsed under her. She landed on her stomach with a loud noise and glared at Lómen with many beady eyes, all filled with hate.

"I will rejoin the master for now without reward, but you will be mine in the end Elf." Lómen laughed cruelly. "That is what you believe, but I assure you I will escape unscathed by the likes of you." With that Lómen left the cave satisfied. The flames consumed everything around her outside and there didn't seem to be much of a way to escape. What magic had she that could get her out of this place? The burning smell made her cough and she cursed under her breath. This would be a long trip back...

Sargoth first caught sight of the rising plumes of smoke as he looked up from washing his face in a small, clear brook. He had been walking through the forest more or less by accident during one of his typical searches and had become nearly lost by this time. For almost an hour he had been following the babbling brook for no other reason that he could trace it easily in case he needed to double back on his steps. The smoke was inconveniently in a direction other than the flow of the water so he parted with his makeshift trail and steered toward the fire. There was little wind that day so the plume acted as a very good pointer for Sargoth to follow; he was very curious what could have caused so much destruction on a cloudless day.

As he neared the source of the smoke, he noticed some rather disheartening features beginning to populate the area. In particular, he made sure to sidestep and avoid the large webs that were hung from treetrunk to treetrunk. Occasionally he found the remains of adventurer's who were not as careful about their footing. Sargoth grumbled to himself that he was still too curious for his own good and that he needed to stop caring about what was going on around him. He was putting himself in a situation that gave him a bad feeling; it was completely illogical to do such a thing and he scolded himself for it when he was not avoiding webs. He hoped that whatever made these webs had died in the fire he was approaching.

He finally reached the source of the smoke only to find a fire ravaged section of forest. The flames licked at the air high in the treetops and flooded over the ground like a hungry swarm. Sargoth watched as the webs burned especially well, they were fueling this madness so that it stayed out of control. While Sargoth had no particular attachment to this new forest yet, he was still urged to try and help because of his inherent love of nature. Luckily for him, fire was not the primary element used in his creation, so there was little internal conflict about whether to douse the flames or not.

Sargoth drove the point of his weapon into the ground and held on to the top of the shaft while he raised his left hand into the air. Above, dark clouds began to collect and multiply over the fire torn section of forest. Within the first minute, large raindrops began pouring out of the sky like a floodgate had been released. The flames were quickly being choked and killed by the summoned rainstorm. Sargoth could actually see now that the orange flames had died down and the smoke had cleared up. To his amazement, there was a small cave at the center of the firestorm. He looked at the charred spiderwebs around him and sighed, this was going to be bad.

Sargoth let Maru fall to his left hand and he grabbed the shaft near Rekki with his right. He was not holding the weapon defensively to suggest a suspected battle, but he certainly did not want to be caught off guard by whatever was in that hole. He called out once for courtesy, planning on leaving as soon as he heard no reply. It was not his business to check on the welfare of a giant spider, after all.

"Hello, is anyone in there? Is everything okay?"

Cursing the spider in her thoughts she looked up from where she stood at the sound of a man's voice. She walked around to the side of the cave and there stood... something. It looked like a statue at first glance but she realized that it was moving and it also held a sword at the ready. She contemplated on a means of defense and realized that if indeed this creature was made of stone or had stoneskin cast upon him, that none of the weapons she carried with her would do her any good. Again she cursed under her breath and decided that she would have to resort to using only magic. But what magic would work against an armed piece of rock? Angry and ready for a battle she spoke. "Do not mix yourself with this matter of business," she said coldly to...it. The persistant voice in her head began to speak again. "Do not just stand there! If he is armed then he intends to fight you! That is a direct threat against me and he will not live to regret it!" Mindlessly she nodded and drew her sword. Even if she could not damage him with it she would need it to defend and parry any attacks that came her way. She could not displease the master in his dark spire....

Sargoth was about to turn around and continue on his merry way, happy that he had stopped a forest fire, until he saw a woman step out of the darkened cave and speak to him. He had a difficult time hearing her but was able to catch her first sentence. The second comments she made were lost on him; he thought she was speaking to herself and passed it off as misunderstanding. Sometimes he just mixed things up in his head and he was better off leaving them behind and trying again.

"Well, I see you are not hurt," he commented in a hopeful voice. "I'm sorry, I did not know that a burning pit was your business, I suppose I could just leave you to it then, now that I know you are alright."

Sargoth was still wary about the huge spiderwebs surrounding him, even though most were charred beyond recognition. Something tugged at him, telling him that there was a problem about to arise. When the woman drew her sword, Sargoth knew he needed to start reacting first and questioning it later.

He was in no mood to fight this stranger, but it seemed she was of a differing opinion. As a sake of mind he began to mumble the ancient words of the elemental stoneskin spell, keeping the magic on the verge of manifesting itself on his body until he needed it. Out of habit, Sargoth shifted Rekki-Maru to a slightly more defensive position. The shaft was held strongly by his two hands like a typical staff, but Maru, the club-like end, tipped toward the ground and Rekki, the spear-point end, pointed into the canopy of the forest.

"May I ask your name and why you have drawn your sword, lady?" Sargoth said in an attempt to avoid a fight.

Lómen prepared to say something nasty but she didn't have time. From behind her emerged the giant spider and it immedeately spotted the guardian as well. "What do we have here?" she hissed in her evil, crooked voice. The sound was like the scrape of a stone coffin lid, lifted after centuries of decay. "It seems we have a trespasser, Ungoliant. What was it that the master said about trespassers my dear spider?" she asked the wicked spider, her lip curled up into a grin. "Master has never liked trespassers," replied the enormous arachnid. "I say that this trespasser learns a lesson," she said, saliva dropping from her jagged jaw. Lómen nodded and began the assault with the entangle spell. Soon her enemy was bound around the wrists and ankles. "Ungoliant, take care of him."

The juggernaut of a spider let out a screech that could shatter glass and charged at the guardian. Lómen smiled. The spider would be in for a surprise, and the guardian would get something. They would both suffer on this night. She turned while the beast charged and began to head back to the black spire.

Sargoth flinched as the fearsome screech shook his earsdrums and seemed to tear through his head entirely. Ungoliant, as the woman had called it, definately had bark, and Sargoth was interested in avoiding the bite. He released the stoneskin spell and shifted as his body turned grey, covered by a protective layer of magical rock. This was a moment where he avoided thinking about the redundancy of the defensive magic and instead directly focused on the task before him. He needed to remove the spider before it was able to procure a nice guardian snack.

Unfortnately, the entanglement spell would prove deadly troublesome. Instead of attempting anything creative, Sargoth was forced to deal with the plants gripping his body. The mage woman must have been very powerful to make the vines so durable that they withstood a few tugs and several hacks from Rekki-Maru. In resignation, Sargoth cast dispel magic on his bonds at the very last possible moment. The spider was extremely fast, almost so fast that Sargoth was unable to complete his spell. With a sideways leap, Sargoth dove to the right just far enough to avoid the charging arachnid. He spun around to face his foe once more, jabbing Rekki forward to strike Ungoliant's leg. The blade almost slid off the armored limb but there was just enough force behind the blow to break through. Rekki left a moderate gash on the leg that responded by spewing out oozing blood.

As a typical spider response, the leg was imediately curled inward to Ungoliant's body so that the spider could operate on the seven good legs. As the leg receeded, Sargoth could clearly see a pair of arrows embedded into the creature's underbelly. He knew what would have to be done. Before he could act, he jumped backward as Ungoliant shifted and stared at him once again, apparently enraged at its injury.

Lómen snuck off into the darkness while the fight behind her continued. Ungoliant, although injured, was not hindered much. She had endured centures and suffered far greater wounds and still recovered. She hissed the made her next move. She scurried to her right and climbed a little ways up a tree. She quickly stuck some webbing to the tree then jumped to another tree, then another, then another. she was rapidly blocking them in with her thick cobwebs and soon she would have him cornered. It would be so easy then for her to take him and wrap him in a cacoon of webs and watch him die. She smiled a cracked and crooked smile and hissed again. She would enjoy watching him suffer for cutting her leg.

As Selena was walking buy, daydreaming a bit, some strange noises caught her attention. It was like slime being thrown at a large object. As she stopped walking and her echolocation senses picked up on the noises, she got a very clear image of what had made that sound. It was a tree that had been caught in a large, sticky substance. She got a hunch of what that was now... The thought of that worried her a bit. When she remembered her grandmother's warnings about a spider haunting these forsaken lands, she imaged the large thing must be working on a web to capture someone in. A random passer-by. Of course she had to do something about that and decided to take action right away. Her grandfather had studied the arachnid kind for dozens of years now, as long as she could remember, and she knew exactly how spiders sounded when they were hungry. And this particular beast was as hungry as could be and ready to turn its victim into a little snack. Therefore Selena hurried to the place where she had heard that noises from, thinking about what spell to use to make the powerful webs melt. A fire based spell would probably work best of all here.

Edit: Is anyone going to rp with me in this topic? Please?
