Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Laoura looked out at the shining water of the sea, which reflected the bright full moon, hanging heavy in the sky.

She waited for Varila, so that she could learn the powers of the mysterious pendant that the fellow goddess carried. She knew it was connected to Varila's lost brother in some way, but she was not sure what.

Varila had little knowledge that Laoura knew of her search for her brother, Laron, and she wished it to remain so. Laoura did not like others barging into her affairs, and therefore had decided to keep her distance.

Varila walked up to Laoura with her blue eyes looking calmer than they ever had before. Her hair was tied up in a ponytail that fell about halfway down her back. Her cloak swayed in the wind as she dug out her amulet and clenched it. Hand trembling, she reached out and gave Laoura her amulet. Releasing all that was left of her beloved and hated past was difficult, but she managed a reassuring nod. "Do what you must, Laoura, but do not wipe him from it, for he is the only thing I wish to remember." Her voice wasn't icy as it usually was, but calm, and rather misty. Throwing off her cloak, she watched the night sky, moonlight dancing on the surface of her eyes. Although she still looked ill, her beauty had returned.

"I will try not to," she said, accepting the amulet. She then walked towards the water and unflinchingly into the cold water, walking in until she was up to her thighs in it. She didn't seem to notice the chill of the water.

Varila's eyes were downcast as happy memories drifted into her mind, and into Laoura's. It was a little girl of about eight, and she was in a lavishly decorated room. Sitting on the bed, she was crying, great sobs escaping. A rap was heard on the door, and she looked up, to see the door swing open. In walked a tall youth with shoulder length brown hair, and calm brown eyes. He was wearing a tunic and looking at her reassuringly. "What happened, Varila?" he asked. His voice was soothing and light, as he put an arm over the little girl's shoulders.

She looked up at him and wiped her eyes with the sleeve of a silver-embroidered blue gown. "Sorun, he-he said that I was a demon, a creature unfit to live here. Then....mother started looking at me like she was afraid, and father yelled at me, saying that I was a demon....sent to shame our family." The youth embraced her, and stroked her long hair, that had silver stars woven into it.
"You shall never be alone," he said. "Even if the rest of house Sashasta abandons you, I will stand by your side. I know that you would never do anything to harm us."
"Thank you Laron," she said, and buried her face in his chest. "I was hoping that you would understand. I don't mean to do all of the things that happen..." She looked up at him sadly, as if she was going to start crying again. "They say that I should be killed, or sent to the dungeons...but I don't want to go Laron!" she screamed. "Please don't let them take me!"
"They will have to strike me dead before they take you, Varila, and even then I would haunt them in the afterlife." Laron looked protective now, as he embraced his sister, and Varila cried into his chest.

FLICKER.

Flames roared and Varila ran through her house, still a little girl, although she was maybe a year older. Going down into the cellar to search for people, she grabbed a washbasin along the way and then spotted Laron. He was pressed against the wall, flames licking his face. "Laron!" called Varila. She threw the water onto the flames and ran through. She dragged him over, and toward a window. Her lungs screamed for breath, and her head was cloudy, but Laron was helping her along now. The two of them climbed out a window and lay down on the cool grass. Varila was embracing Laron, lying on top of him. Burns covered his arms and legs, and his face was red from the heat. "You were brave in there," he told her. "But did you see any of the others get out?"
"No....I couldn't find them..."

FLICKER.

"I am a danger to you," said Varila, looking into her brother's eyes. "You stood by me, and I am forever grateful to you for that, but I must leave." She looked about thirteen as she faced her brother with overbright eyes.
"Varila," replied Laron fondly. "Remember that I will always be there for you. Never shall you be alone." So then, with tears running down her face, Varila walked away...

Varila was back on the beach, standing in water that was up to her knees, she looked back and saw Laoura, then sighed with relief.

The memories made Laoura sway, threatened to lose her balance to the swaying waves.

She held the medallion above her head and the moonlight shone brightly upon it. She was led by a ray of silver light with her mind through the many riddles of the medallion and it secrets. Information seemed to stream into her mind as she wound through the medallions powers.

Varila looked at Laoura, her face completely blank. She wished Laron could be there now, to help her, even to just try....

Finally, the rollercoaster ride of her mind was over and she understood the powers of the medallion perfectly and they were not for the better.

She wanted to destroy it and its power, but Varila had requested that her brother's spirit not be banished from it.

Laoura made her way back to Varila, and spoke.

"This medallions power is evil. It is full of poison that will slowly kill you if you continue to carry it as it is now. It relives your fears and grief of the past, putting you into a sort of false reality. The reality will get worse and worse, and you or someone else could be hurt or kiled. I can try and dispell this evil, but I cannot garuntee that your brother's spirit will remain with it after I am through."

"It was a gift....how could he not know that it was evil?" With Laoura's words, anger rose, and memories flowed like a river. Sorun's face as he called her a demon and laughed over it. Laron when he was letting her cry on him. Her father accusing her of burning the king's portrait by just looking at it. "Are you sure you cannot keep him in there somehow? If you'd only seen all those things they did, you would understand what he means to me!" Anger shattered her serenity. Never before had she thought that Laron's gift would be evil. "You saw it!" Short of breath, she pointed a finger at Laoura. "How did you?"

Laoura was not shaken by Varila's sudden show of anger. Instead she sighed sadly and said, "I am sorry, Varila. I honestly am and I will try not to destroy what remains of Laron's spirit within this object, but I cannot allow you to carry this tainted amulet. I am sure your brother did not know of its true nature."

"You knew nothing of him...of what he was to me! All that you know of is the reflection in the mirror! He didn't call me some wretched demon....he respected me!"

"I DO know what your brother meant to you, Varila. It was the same situation with me and Heian. He stood by me when no one else would, even though he was an Elf and I was a mere Half-Blood bastard, worth nothing to Elves and nothing to humans. So yes, I know what he meant to you! I also know how it is to LOSE someone like that," she finally broke off, having raised her voice for the first time in a long while.

"I left of my own accord, and I am sure that I would have been far different today had I remained with Laron. You saw what Sorun treated me like....like I was some demon polluting their world." She sounded like a cat that was ready to pounce at any moment. Her eyes were level as she felt a tremor run down her spine. Images shifted through her mind. Two sullen, icy blue eyes, and a pallid face framed by short blonde hair. A mocking smile, and a cold, mocking voice. "You are a demon, Varila," he said coldly. "Unfit to live here, why don't you leave now. We would be far happier without your stench polluting our air, your existence acting as a bane to us all, your fires devouring our house. Father should have done away with you years ago." With that, a knife's blade flashed in front of her, and her chest was bleeding. Pain erupted as tears streamed down her face, sorrow blackening her fading mind. "Sorun!" she screamed, and was on the sand, lying there. The front of her off white shirt was nearly all crimson. The smirk upon his face....those merciless eyes, and the blade that had plunged into her heart, just like every word that Sorun had said. She was sure that Laoura had seen it too, but could not speak for her weakness, and she lay near motionless, her eyes wide. Her cloak was thrown off, and she felt that she was slipping. Her eyes slowly closed...

She cursed in Elvish terribly as Varila fell. She reached down and felt her neck for a pulse, praying to feal the constant beat of her heart beneath her fingers.

"Dammit, Varila."

She knew the only way to stop the amulet from slowly killing Varila was to destroy its power.

Laoura gripped the amulet and left Varila on the beach, again fighting the waves out into the water.

She began murmuring the soft and subtle words to ancient star magic spells, holding the amulet tightly before her. She felt the waves numb her legs and waist and strength quickly leaving her.

Her heart raced as she shivered, lying on the cool sand. The blade....Sorun...Laron....all of these images flickered in her mind. Looking up, she saw what Laoura was doing, and cried out to stop her. Blood ran down her shirt and she still lay there, too weak to even get to her knees, pain throbbing in her chest.

The incantation was still muttered under her breath, though getting faster. Glowing, silvery blue energy was gathering in her hand that held the amulet. It was soon glowing so violently that it hurt Laoura's eyes as she held it. It slowly began burning her hand with a cold so freezing that it burned.
