| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Sen continued walking, his footsteps light as he walked, moving slowly so that the creaking on the plates of his armor would not be too audible. He took a deep breath and looked around. The shifting in the brush had stopped, but Sen knew he was being watched. Something was stalking him. He felt considerable unease as he kept moving, his eyes darting back to see if Wynnesteria was still behind him. He looked back towards the front, continuing to walk along the grass, his footsteps as silent as he could make them. |

Wynne noticed his uneasy pace and also slowed down a little, feeling paranoid herself as they continued to move carefully through the brush. Her hand began to cramp from its odd position, but she felt as though she couldn't afford to let her guard down. For a moment, she wondered if her escort was just a paranoid person, and maybe the contagion of such anxiety was more detrimental than worth the protection Sen offered. She pushed away the thought, reminding herself that she'd already put in the gold for it, and may as well get her money's worth, and continued walking. |

Sen kept walking before sighing. "Okay, enough. Ned, go away." He turned back to the brush where an older man, looking roughly similar to Sen, wearing simple leather armor and seemingly friendly, waved to him. "Sen! How'd you see me, bud? I thought I was being soooooo sneaky!" He chuckled and waved, laughing as he looked over at Wynne. "Is this your newest client? Your newest charge? Oooooh, how interesting! What's your story, kiddo?" "My client's business is private," Sen said calmly. "You should go, Ned. You have other matters to attend to, I'm sure. Besides, I'm not talking to you until you give me the details I'm asking for." "And you're fully aware I'm unable to do that." The friendly demeanor dropped away as Ned became serious. "I have a new employer who has designated to remain private. Like you said, the client's business is private." "...You know you're breaking our code. You'll have to give that information sooner or later." "...Perhaps, Sen. Perhaps. For now, I'll leave you be." Ned's image rippled and vanished as Sen sighed. "Ignore that. Let's just keep going." |

Wynne blinked and looked between the two of them, narrowing her eyes at the nickname and opened her mouth to tell him off (alongside a string of curses,) but Sen had already answered for her, leaving her to frown and look down at the ground. She was silent until Ned left, then looked back at Sen, and sighed softly, beginning to walk without another word and a sour expression. Her curiosity was nagging at her to ask at least a question or two, but her reasonable sign shut the idea down immediately- as much as she wanted to know, whether she should know was a completely different thing. She'd just gotten out of one predicament- at least for a little while- and the last thing she needed was to land in even deeper water. |

Sen could see the quiet sourness on her face, but he knew she wouldn't ask. He continued quietly walking, seemingly a lot more at ease now that he knew what was stalking him. The seeming ease was undermined by his still-pervasive nervousness - he anticipated others still. He silently continued walking, feeling as the air suffused with the humid feeling of unholy magic, as well as the cooling breeze of holy magic. The weakness between the planes was becoming more and more prevalent. "We'll reach the town sooner than we thought," he said quietly. |

"Ah, that's guid, Ah suppose," she responded shortly, but she'd obviously perked with some amount of regained energy at the idea, her eyes a little brighter and the petty behavior replaced with a bit more liveliness. She tried not to notice the stuffy feeling unholy energy gave her, the same feeling that clouded her old house any time there were other relatives over, believing it was just a shift in temperature rather than an obvious planar weakness. She wrung out her hand, trying to bring back some feeling to her fingers with a sigh, her eyes towards the ground. |

They walked for a long while, before they finally reached the township - a busy market-town called Snarne. As they entered, Sen sighed as he looked around at the market, which was bustling even in the night. Quietly, he led Wynne along to a hotel where he bought them the same sort of room as the outpost. "Stay here. I will search for supplies." He left the room, having shed his heavy cloak and chest armor, as well as his heavier weapons in favor of the gauntlets and his dagger. He looked around the market, which was humid, even at night, and could feel the holy and unholy miasma leaking out from all around the town. That's when he saw the cherub. It was small and winged, about the size of a dog, and pretty unsuspicious. It began to approach the central market, where all sorts of people had set up their stalls, large and small, and were trading in ample goods. He concentrated and felt the immense magical power seeping off of it, too much for it to contain. His eyes widened. It was a living bomb. He approached quickly, the blue and white wyvern curling around his arm, lending his body a pale blue glow. As the cherub continued to approach, seemingly unaware of what it was doing, Sen quickly approached, walking until he was within ten feet of the cherub, raw arcana gathering in his hands. He extended his hand and a spiraling wave of energy crashed into the cherub, causing it to cry out and fall to the ground, singed from the energy. Sen leapt onto it as the magic around it destabilized, casting another spell quickly. His flesh left his body turning him into a skeleton as the cherub exploded. He managed to contain the blast, luckily unharmed thanks to his quick thinking. He sat back, civilians fleeing the scene in terror - when something else reached out and touched his mind. "Interesting, child. It is... rare to see a bearer of our kind's mana to act so selflessly. Nornally, it would disgust my kind. I, however, am different. "Our kind?" Sen looked around and he was suddenly in a realm of pure hellfire, red and smoky. A shadowy being loomed above him, huge wings spread out. "What are you talking about?" "Hunter, I will be frank. I am an Archdevil - powerful conqueror of the Abyss. However, I am not like my selfish, conniving, evil brethren. The stench of the Abyss has suffocated me from birth, made me sick of the rank evil that resides here. Seeing you, a representative of the Abyss, act to save mortals at the cost of your own being, has given me hope that our kin may change. I will reward you. You have attracted my attention, and I will give you my hellish power. In exchange, your soul and mine shall become one. What do you say to this? Sen narrowed his eyesockets up at the demon, quiet. "You seem like you're telling the truth, though, how do I know you're not lying?" The devil snorted. "I have watched you for some time, Hunter. If I wanted to corrupt you, my power would have already swayed you to the dark. Sen hesitated. "...Fine. I'll bond with you." The Archdevil laughed as he extended his hand and wrapped it around Sen's heart. "Correct choice. Let us become one, Fiend and Fiend-bound. Sen woke up in the middle of a market teeming with town police inspecting the scene. He looked at his hands and was shocked - the skin had turned deep red, and his nails had sharpened into points. He bit his lip and was also shocked to find that his canines had sharpened into tiny, stubby fangs. He stood up slowly, growing accustomed to his new power - brand new physical strength, slightly improved senses. Quickly, he returned to the room, opening and closing the door behind him, hoping Wynne hadn't seen him. |

Unfortunately for Sen, Wynne was already in a room, having moved off of the bed and turning around the corner, waving her hand to greet him. "Welcome ba-" She stopped immediately upon seeing his new appearance, and for once, it only took a second to register what she was seeing, before she jumped back, thrusting her hand out and screaming out a spell. As she did so, her eyes flashed white and a bright beam of white shot from her hand, aimed straight towards Sen, only for it to dispel immediately, leaving her staring at him with wide, fearful eyes. She opened her mouth to speak, but before she could, she fell straight backwards onto the floor, unconscious from shock. |

Sen jolted and leapt back, frightened by her sudden discharge of holy power. As she slumped forward, he quickly leapt forward and caught her. He stared down at her as he set her on the bed, leaning against the wall. "...What just happened?" |

Wynne was out for a few minutes before coming to, rubbing her eyes and looking over at him. She jumped and shifted away a little, not looking at him. "I'm nae gonnae ask. She nodded slowly, then turned on her side, facing away from him and closing her eyes. |

Sen seemed unhurt by her obvious fear of his new physical changes and nodded quietly. "Goodnight." He dimmed the lanterns and yawned softly as he curled up in the hed, closing his eyes and sighing softly. He had the same dream again that night, and woke up sweating, panting as he slid out of bed and instinctively began fastening on his armor and weapons before he was even fully awake. He walked to the bathroom and stared at his now deep red skin, looking at himself with slight confusion. He sighed and stepped back out, peeking out the window to see the market had somewhat resumed business. "Time to get going, " he mumbled absentmindedly to his client, not sure where she was. Wynne was already awake, though hearing him didn't seem to stir her from where she was, lying staring up at the wall quietly as she thought over her own dream. She'd seen her mother, again, in that same place, only now she was talking to a bright being of light in words that didn't make sense to Wynne. The vowels seemed familiar, but she couldn't quite place where she'd seen it, and with all the books she'd read out of boredom, she realized it could be from practically anywhere. With a sigh, she pushed it aside, rolling onto her back and staring at the ceiling. She'd only drive herself mental putting too much thought and worry into it. |

He looked at her and walked over, shaking the bed by pressing his foot against the mattress. He was still uneasy about making physical contact with her, especially with what happened last night. "...Come on. With all the commotion, I didn't have time to buy." He went over to the door, looking through the peephole, and then scanned the hallway before stepping out. He put his free hand in the pocket of his cloak, sighing quietly. "Wynne." |

She groaned as he spoke again, shaking her head. "Yea, yea, aam comin', lit me gie up first, please." She sat up begrudgingly and rubbed her eyes, before picking up her cloak and walking out the door. Her face portrayed a look of frustration with herself that she tried to shove down, telling herself it wasn't worth being upset about, but with little else to think about without her books, it was hard to distract herself. She tried keeping her eyes focused on something at all times instead, trying to see if she could name anything in her head that she'd seen before. It wasn't much, but it helped some. |

Sen grumbled quietly as he looked back at her, before staring forward. Maybe it had something to do with the fiend living inside his soul, but he was starting to get more than a little irritated with her behavior. She seemed like she wanted to whine about something, so Sen decided to begrudgingly ask her as they approached a stall selling charms. "What seems to be the matter? You seem upset." |
