Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Sen sighed quietly and looked back at her, before turning around and kept walking silently along the path. His strides were crisp and quick - he had no desire to dawdle in the dark forest. He knew the origin of the blanketing shadows that covered Balefire in eternal darkness, and he had no business remaining around it.

Finally, the tree cover lightened and began to disappear completely, and the suffocating darkness began to abate. Sen looked up quietly and saw the pink and gold streaks of sunset suffusing the sky. He gave a small smile. A long time ago, he would have marveled for days at a sight like this. Ned would have enjoyed it - maybe he would have said something stupid about angels or something.

Sen's brow knitted. Right. The angels.

He shook his head and sighed quietly. No time to dwell on the past.

He looked back at Wynne. "The sun is setting. We should make camp somewhere. I'll take first watch."

She stared at the ground until the grass was no longer dry and crisp, blinking as the change came into focus. Looking up, her eyes widened at the vibrant display of colors in the sky, an obvious expression of awe reflecting in her eyes. The corners of her lips turned up, and then pulled her lips into a wide smile, her face lighting up with a fresh look of pure happiness. She took a deep breath, savouring the clear air and the fresh breeze for the first time in too long, and sighed softly. She didn't look back as she responded, stretching her arms up and smiling up at the vivid colors. "Naw, I think A'll take the firs' turn. A've waited too long fer this awn'."

Sen looked back at her, his cloak billowing in the gentle breeze, before giving an affirmative nod, his face sporting a half-smile. Of course she wanted to stay out like this. He turned back to Wynne, nodding and adjusting his cloak with a sigh, forcing his face back to neutrality. "If you insist. Let's go out a little bit more, and then we'll set up."

He began walking for a bit more, stepping back into the forest, parting the undergrowth as he made his way to a clearing. The place was surrounded by trees, shrubbery, and flowers - all of which would alert them to any newcomer intending to encroach on their territory. Sen sighed and quietly removed his cloak, revealing a heavy breastplate and two gauntlets made of what appeared to be green scale, combined with metal. He undid the straps on the armor and set it down, along with his claw. He also removed a small dagger from his belt, and a large scabbard from his back and groaned heavily, sitting back down on the ground. "All this equipment weighs me down severely. I often find it's very good for strengthening, however." He leaned back, planting his hand down on the ground and sprung onto his feet, flipping over his back. He stood up and stretched extensively, hopping up and down. "I feel light as a feather without it."

Sen concentrated slightly and a heat began to swelter around his body as he nodded slowly. "Everything seems to be in order, then. I will fetch kindling. Do as you please."

Blinking as she listened to him speak, she nodded blankly and laid back on the ground, arms outstretched as she sighed happily. She took as deep of a breath as she could, lying in the tall grass and closing her eyes, facing up to the sky happily.

It'd been almost exactly eight years since she'd last seen the late evening sky, she realized, with a slight pang in her heart as she found herself unable to recall the events of the last time she'd come out to see the sun. Perhaps it had just been stepping out for some fresh air, or maybe it was one of her and her mother's late night talks. Whatever it had been, whether she remembered the exact patterns or the sky or not, it felt different this time- she'd never realized how much she'd missed it until it was gone for nearly half her life. Could she see Celestia from here? Could they see her? A part of her almost doubted that the high planes could see into Balefire, with its pitch black atmosphere, lit only by yellow glows of oil lamps or magic flames. In the dwindling sky, as the first stars began to appear and the sky turned a deep blue, she caught a moving star out of the corner of her eye. She smiled and murmured a soft hope to herself. She'd never thought they would come true, even as a child. Maybe, just this once.

She wished to never go back.

Sen watched her lie flat on her back before stretching and grabbing up his two-handed sword from the ground, in case he needed to cut down any actual trees. Of course, he was aware of how much it would dull the blade, but he was alright with that. He slung the scabbard over his back and trudged into the brush that surrounded the clearing. Luckily, the grass was dry - it hadn't rained there for three days or so - and Sen quickly found enough wood for a kindling.

Returning, he found some stones scattered around the clearing and in the forest, using his magic to burn away any flammable substance already on them. Quietly, he set the scabbard and blade down, pulling out an exquisitely made copper dagger from his pile of equipment. Using that, he cut away at any grass he found near the site. Putting down the rocks in a circle, and then arranging the twigs, he sighed, sitting back down on the ground and looking up at the sky. Sunsets near Balefire were famous for beauty. He scoffed slightly at the blatant irony before he yawned ans grabbed hid cloak, using it as a makeshift cloth to lie on.

She sat up, blades of grass sticking to the back of her cloak as she looked down at the rocks. She closed her eyes with a sigh and shrugged off her cloak, shaking out her headdress with an odd trilling with her lips. Wiping off her dress, she moved closer to the ring of rocks and looked down at the sticks silently for a moment, staring intently as though she could light it on fire with her gaze. For a moment, she vaguely wondered if that was possible, then shook her head. Of course not. She wasn't a pyromancer.

Of course, she'd never seen much magic outside of her family's own, and aside from her mother, that had been entirely dark and unholy types of spells, so perhaps she wasn't one to remark on any magic other than her own.

Sen flicked his gaze over to her, before looking back at the campfire. He watched the logging for a long time, making a tiny fireball to pass the time. He tossed it up into the air, catching it again quickly. Throwing it up again, he sighed. He was... kind of bored. He dispelled the fire, before sitting up, sighing as his Primal Shroud manifested around him. This time, the wyvern was about the size of a cat, and it hopped onto his shoulder, watching silently. He absentmindedly scratched it under the chin, causing it to purr lazily. Quietly, the hunter thought back to when he had first awakened the shroud - feeling the raw, uncontainable power that radiated from it. Knowing that thie power was one he could use. It was incredible at first. He wondered if he had awakened any abilities since then - perhaps he had? He wasn't sure. He WAS sure that these abilities were incredibly dangerous, and that overuse would get him killed.

He spent a while longer in thought, before glancing over at the noble girl. "You. What magic do you know?"

She sighed and closed her eyes, stretching her arms out until her hands shook slightly from the tension. Resting them in her lap, she glanced down at the woodpile. "Aye, nuthin' much, mate. Am s'posed to have some sort'v mind abilities, but Am not too good whit it at this point." She paused. Should she mention the holy magic she practiced? No. He'd probably figured it out by now, and if not, it could cause tensions, judging by the bit of unholy flames she'd witnessed back in Balefire. No, she'd keep quiet over her personal practices for now. "Thassa 'bout it though. Sorry t' disappoint." She looked down at her pale hand silently. She remembered how dark she'd gotten back when she was only a child. Balefire didn't have the same sort of sun that most of the world did. A question came to mind, whether she had her mother's skin or her father's. It'd been too long to quite remember. Damn memory.

She forced herself off of the memory to keep her emotions from welling up. It'd be far too embarrassing to cry in front of a near-stranger. She lied back in the grass again and turned on her side, examining a particularly interesting green blade of grass in silence.

He nodded quietly and looked at his feet, rocking back and forth on the grass, his fingers scraping through the blades of the grass as he shook his head. "I see." He laid back on the ground and nodded quietly, before standing up and stretching quietly, looking up at the sky. "There should be a creek nearby. I will get some water." Sen sighed and picked up his copper dagger and began walking, his shroud fading away into crisps of white and blue magic in the rapidly fading sunset.

Sen stepped out of the clearing and into the trees. He continued walking, looking around, the dagger gripped tightly in his hand, then stopped, kneeling down behind some brush. A buck crossed their path, and Sen narrowed his eyes. He gripped his hand around the dagger, before he loosened his grip, kicking at the brush. The deer started and dashed off as Sen stood up again, gripping his dagger and continuing onwards through the green brush. This section of the forest was untamed, completely wild. He glanced around. Maybe he should try his hand at some hunting. He needed to eat at least something. Perhaps on the return trip - he was parched. He continued walking, humming a tune from his days with the Hunters. The melody was haunting - it had sounded grander when they were in a bar and Hinnie had taken up the piano and hummed it while the adults took their drinks, joining in whenever they could. He smiled, allowing himself to indulge in the remembrance as he emerged from the brush, approaching the stream. He scooped his hands in and drank quietly from the stream, sighing as he sat back, crossing his legs and dipping the dagger quietly in.

The small copper dirk began to rapidly expand, turning into a blade the size of a small broadsword. He sighed and twisted it around. The Roar of the Canyon. One of the many gifts he'd received on his leaving from the Hunters. His gaze drifted down the dagger to the Aetherist runic tattoo on his left palm as he tapped his fingers along his knees, before bending down and taking another sip, feeling the cooling liquid drip down his throat. Sighing, he leaned back, feeling an exhaustion overtake him as the evening breeze blew quietly over his face. He looked up to see the sun-streaked sky still everpresent, the colors shifting constantly. He lay back, mumbling softly to himself whatever lyrics from the song he remembered. Of course, he thought. Ina region just bordering a town of everlasting night, there was a narrow band of everlasting sunset. It made a bit of sense. He closed his eyes, his head lying against the grass, his right hand gripping the dagger and his left hand dipped in the cool, clear water of the stream.

Wynne silently stared at the blade of grass for as long as she could bear before sitting up and staring at the wood pit silently, and then down at her hands, thinking back to her few failed experiences with magic. She was told as a child that she'd had abilities, but she couldn't quite remember a time when she had used them. Perhaps she'd used them on accident before, but never consciously. She narrowed her eyes at the sticks and stuck her hand out, staring at a particularly gnarled twig and focusing on it.

Nothing happened.

She groaned and threw her hand up in the air, and suddenly, the pile shifted. She blinked at it for a few minutes, before smiling. Holding out her hand, the pile shifted again. A giddy smile spread over her face as she looked around, then called out. "Sen, Sen, holy shite, I diddit! I fookin' moved it!" She laughed incredulously and looked down at her hand, then back out into the woods, sitting down as she realized he probably couldn't hear her with a sigh.

Sen heard her shouting and woke up with a start, sitting up and looking around. From the distance he was at, he couldn't hear the words she was saying, and it sounded like she was in trouble. His eyes narrowed and he grabbed up the newly enlarged dagger, one hand blazing with fire magic as he tore through the woods. He burst out into the clearing, wielding his dagger and his hand burning brightly, his eyes filled with a burning blue glow.

And then, seeing her there, shifting sticks, he blinked. Then, he exhaled slowly, loosening his grip on the dagger and crouching down next to her, his gaze at once exasperated and curious. "...What exactly... are you doing?" He looked from her hand to the shifting stick on the pile, then sighed. "You had me alarmed. I see, you were simply practicing magic." He sat back on the ground and watched her, curious. "...Are these the mind abilities you were speaking of earlier?"

She grinned brightly and nodded. "Mmhm! The first time in ma memory A've been able to!" She moved her hands to rest on her waist, only for the stick to fling out with her movement and hit in the shin. "Ow, bloody 'ell!" She shook off her leg, glaring down at the stick, an embarrassed flush creeping over her raised cheeks as she scratched her face. "Ah... s'pose A' still need to get a better handle on 'em before I can use 'em properly, huh?" Laughing nervously, she turned back to the pile and sat back down, holding her hand out and focusing back on the stick. Slowly, with some effort, she was able to lift it up and move it back to the pile, a determined half smile on her face as she finally set it back down with the other twigs.

"I suppose you do," he said with a blank face, but with a voice rich with amusement. "If I may, miss, it might be best to try it like an exercise. One controlled movement, over and over. Magic is much like a muscle, after all." Sen took a gnarled stick and carved a bit of bark away so she could identify it, then set it down on the pile, before charring a bit of grass about two feet away. "Now. Move it from that pile to that marking right there on the grass. Back and forth. I'd say... fifty times."

He sat back on the grass and watched quietly, gently sliding his dagger back into its sheath, which had also grown to accomodate its new size and mass, setting it on the pile of gear he had stripped away, tossing his cloak over it haphazardly. Sen watched her silently, a blank expression occupying his face, but a look of interest in his eyes, his tanned, scarred fingers rubbing together, bits of flame emerging from them.

Wynne blinked for a moment, before an incredulous look creeped in. "Fifty? Aye, I don'o if I really 'ave the energy fer that..." She sighed softly, closing her eyes, before a determined expression settled on her face and she focused on the stick again, eyes narrowed. Slowly, she lifted the stick, carefully moving it between the marking and the pile. She was able to get in about seven back and forth motions before her hand began to shake slightly, and it began to show exactly how much concentration it was taking. Close to fifteen, she nearly dropped the stick mid-set, and at exactly twenty six, she set the stick in the pile and shook her head. "Naa, I don' think A can do anymore than that. Damn, my head..." She cursed softly and held her hand against her forehead, before lying back on the ground with a groan.
