| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Shugri crouched slightly as she walked, keeping a wary eye out for any potential predators. There were few in this area, save for spiders. While they generally left her alone, she wasn't sure how they would respond to Leo. She turned to him and pointed between the two of them, and then made a motion of her hands coming closer together, trying to motion that he should stay close. Before too long, they began to hear the sound of flowing water. Shugri made her way to the water's edge, a small stream a couple of feet across, and about a foot deep. It flowed from a nearby underground spring, and made for a refreshing drink after a long hunt. She waved her arm for Leo to join her, and take his fill, as she cupped a hand to drink, sitting on her haunches and keeping her guard up. |

Leo wasn't sure exactly why Shugri was ducking, possibly to avoid low branches or keep a low silhouette. Either way he mimicked and followed her instruction to close the distance between them. The river was small but clean, and Leo knelt down at the water. He kept an ear out for any encroaching sounds while taking his drink. He pulled out an empty container for water and began to fill it. He had been out of water for days and it was starting to take it's toll. As he rose back to his feet a snapping sound came from across the stream and up in the trees. Leo dropped his body lower and grabbed his sword's handle. Waiting for a few moments the area went silent again. Perhaps it was just a passing creature, or the possible predator retreated at the possibility of two armed prey. |

Shugri barely did more than glance up at the sound of the breaking branches. It wasn't that she thought that they were not a threat, simply that after the amount of time that she had spent in the woods, that she had grown used to such things. She was ready to defend herself or run if need be, but she didn't see the point in making unnecessary movement out of fear. She stood slowly, and turned to Leo. "Fashaum?" <Camp?> She proceeded to grab a few branches, and made a very small fire, considerably smaller than the previous one, using a couple of rocks she carried on her belt. It took her a moment, but once she added some dead foliage, it ignited without an excessive amount of difficulty. She then began gathering more dead leaves, and motioned for Leo to get closer to the fire. She then laying a ring of dead leaves around the small impromptu camp, and added a few more thin twigs for good measure. She turned to Leo once more, and made a motion like breaking a branch, then pointing to the ring she had made. "Zhurmat." <Noisy> She then made a snapping sound with her mouth, trying to illustrate the purpose of the ring. Once that was done, she took her foot, and began disturbing the ground beneath her, loosening the soil. Once finished, she pulled out a curious doll-like figure made from twigs, leaves, and plant fiber, and set her spear down, laying next to it, so that she could reach out and grab it at a moment's notice. Her dark gray eyes closed, as she drifted off to a solid sleep. |

He raised himself back up and released his grip on his sword. The unfortunate part of the sword's weight was the impossible probability of reflexively unsheathing it. He didn't have the luxury is agility as his companion did, but he had the armor to buy him time. The orc spoke in her tongue and began assembling a camp. She had a crude but effective way of making a fire. What confused him was she began making a perimeter around them. He watched in silence as she used dead leaves and twigs in what looked like a crude security. He had never had experience in the wild before he left Taras to make his way to Balefire, and this trip back he hadn't even bothered to do anything but hunt slow animals. Shugri spoke again and motioned a breaking branch. Leo looked at the ring and her motioning, confirming the purpose of the transpiring process. He noticed as she went to lie down that she had a doll that most likely made herself. This really was a child, and even in the wild they have some similar tendencies to city kids. Humorous enough this "little" girl was more prepared for life than those same city kids and didn't need the modern conveniences of civilization to make due. Leo decided to keep his armor on, regardless of the discomfort. He knew he couldn't react with his weapon fast enough and would be a sitting duck unarmored. Lying down he turned his back to the fire as to not leave his back exposed to the dark treeline and so his eyes wouldn't need to readjust from the light. he drifted off, curious how what the next day brought. -DAY END- Edited by Leofrick, Wed Feb 14, 2018 12:17 am.

The sun began to rise, the sky as grey and gloomy as a rainy day, though none was falling. The whole wood felt almost bleaker during the day, if such a thing was possible, than at night. Fog could be seen in patches, slowly fading beneath the muffled sunlight, and the fire was naught but smoldering embers on the slightly damp earth. Shugri woke with a start, Shal-um skittering to stay on her, and grabbed her spear by reflex. She was not accustomed to waking up with others present, and it took a moment for her to remember the events of the previous night. She took the tip of her bone spear, and made a crude depiction of their surroundings, like a map. She paid special attention to the river, something that she hoped he would recognize. She made a little "x" where their campsite was, and when he woke, she would point to herself and him, then at the "x". "Lee-oh, Shugri." After pointing to the "x" again, she repeated, "Lee-oh" before waving her hand in different directions on her little map and shrugging. |

Leo looked at the map Shugri drew in the dirt. He examined the landmarks she made, but he didn't know any of them except the river. He didn't even know how he wondered into this region of the woods in the first place, much less how to leave. He figured he might as well stick with her and get more food before deciding his next move. "Eat" he told her, motioning to his mouth and rattling the sword on his back. He hoped to portray he meant to hunt. "Hunt. Eat." He scanned the surrounding area, looking for some sign of animal activity. Hopefully the predators were nocturnal and wouldn't be a hindrance to their objective. |

Shugri watched as Leo examined her map. It didn't seem to help that much, but that may have been partially due to him apparently being hungry. She pulled out her bone and tendon spear, and made a short jabbing motion. "Hunt? Gajub? Hunt?" <hunt> She then pointed at her stomach, and then to him. "Leo... u?... Leo.... eat?" <eat> When she noticed him scanning around, she was fairly hopeful that she had gotten her words right. She held her arms wide, her expression questioning. "Leo, Shugri Madh hunt?" She then drew her hands closer, and towards the ground, about the height of the large squirrel she had killed last night. <Big> "Sma Hunt?" <Small> She repeated this a couple of times, trying to figure out if he wanted a big animal or a small one. This language barrier was not easy, but she felt progress was being made with this strange armored man's tongue. |

Leo nodded his head at Shugri as he widened his arms and told her "Big" to signify he meant to hunt something larger. In light of his current equipment and mobility, he reasoned small game would prove too difficult for him to catch. He regretted not bringing his issued longsword, the lighter weight allowing swifter swings. Leo realized they could easily take down something much larger if he distracted and herded and Shugri flanked and ambushed. Her speed and familiarity of the forest would yield them a decent meal. He began breaking down camp and making sure his armor and weapon were ready for their attempt to kill their meal. |

She watched his motions and words carefully. It would seem that he was after larger game. She knew of a few sources of large game. While spiders were certainly dominant in the area, they weren't too far off from more swampy terrain. "Hunt Madh, hunt big?" She repeated his word, assuming that it meant something similar or identical. She began to draw in the dirt with her spear again, this time of a long, flat creature with a tail, four short legs, a long jaw, and small ridges along its back and tail. She wasn't sure how to communicate that it's hide was tough. "Mokaltala! Mokaltala big. Leo, Shugri hunt big Mokaltala. Leo, Shugri eat big Mokaltala. Leo big....shapat..." <Swamp lizard!><Sword> She pointed at his sword, then pointing to her drawing. "Leo big shapat vras Mokaltala!" <Leo's big sword can kill the Swamp-lizard.> She made a motion at the word "vras", drawing a finger across her neck, trying to explain herself. She was learning new words, but there were so many more to learn. |

A crocodile!? She is confident enough or skilled enough to take one of them on? Leo thought to himself as he examined her rough drawing. His armor is roughly the same, if not more difficult to pierce than the hide of that beast. If she can kill one of those then he obviously underestimated her hunting prowess. His only other though was she though he could take one down, which he's never tried to kill a naturally armored creature before. Maybe his sword would be the key to this task. He drew his sword and walked over to a nearby tree, roughly ten feet in diameter. He swung in a downward cross-slash, cutting through the tree and watched as it slowly slide apart from it's own top-weight. Satisfied he placed the massive sword back and turned to Shugri with a smirking grin. "Let us hunt a crocodile." |

"Leo, Shugri hunt crocodile!" She smiled widely, assuming that she was using the correct word. If she was wrong, Leo would surely correct her. She slipped her spear on her back, and began to briskly walk down-stream. She would glance up from time to time, making sure that they were not walking underneath a spider's trap. Mostly though, she kept her eyes towards the water, as the ground grew softer and more moist, forest slowly giving way to swampland, the trees still present but thinner. Her arachnid companion had been making a series of squeaks and clicks rhythmically as they traveled, almost sounding like a song in spider-speak. "And Lo! On yonder hill, the sun shall set! And webs galore, my kin-made net! But the Great Spider loves us the most! One day we'll join the Hidden Host!" As Shal-um "sang", he waved his front legs, swaying them side to side. The ground was starting to cause their feet to sink, when shugri stopped, pointing at what appeared to be a log, sitting under some trees. "Mokaltala! Crocodile!" She excitedly whispered, pointed to it as she looked from the creature to Leo. |

Leo was glad Shugri understood him. He followed her through the woods along the stream. He made a habit of mimicking her, looking overhead for predators and traps. As the ground softened he found the weight of his armor taking it's toll. His feet sank in the swamping mud as they went on. They made it into the heart of the swamp. Shugri stopped him and pointed at a crocodile. Leo grouched down to survey the area around the croc. He looks over the prey and looks back to Shugri. Pointing to Shugri then up the tree over the prey's head, he began giving commands. "Shugri, climb tree." He then motioned to himself swinging a sword. "Leo, attack." and finally gestured to the orc and a downward thrust. "Shugri, attack." |

Shugri pointed at the trees over the crocodile, and asked, "....Tree?" She then made a gesture that resembled climbing. "Climb?" She looked to Leo to make sure that she had inferred the meaning of his words correctly. He nodded, and she beamed, with her usual toothy grin. The "attack" part, on the other hand, had been easy enough, considering it had been used with both their weapons. "Shugri climb tree. Shugri.... shir poshat..." She made a small hopping motion while pointing down. "Shugri attack crocodile. Leo attack crocodile. Ya?" <jump down> Leo once again nodded, smiling. Shugri held out her arm so that Shal-um could climb off her to the ground, and crouching low, slowly circled around to the far side of the tree. She moved as slowly as she could, trying not to disturb the water, and attract the crocodile's attention. She climbed slowly, and once she was perched in a branch over the creature, she waved at Leo, flashing a toothy grin, signalling she was ready, before she climbed higher still, disappearing into the foliage. |

Leo took out his sword and slowly approached the croc. His prey was a massive reptile, Leo guessed it's body was twice his size and most likely weighed close to ten of him. He had to be extra careful as his armor made him sink in the mud with every step, meaning evasion was next to impossible. Luckily the water itself was only about a foot deep, because as soon as he was within ten feet the crocodile's eyes shot open. It turned to Leo and let out an agitated hiss as it opened it's massive maw. Leo dropped into his stance, holding the handle of his sword at one shoulder with both hands and aiming down across his body, readying his weapon as a shield. The shear weight of his weapon lent itself to his stance, allowing the blade to point downward in a more defensive manner. The croc, seeing Leo's aggressive movements, rushed and closed the distance between them. Leo shot the tip of his sword into the water just before the beast reached him, blocking it's path of attack. The croc rotated in response and clamped down on Leo's blade. It attempted to roll to rip the blade away but it could not overpower Leo holding the sword's weight down. "Come on, you scaly bastard. You can do better than that." He taunted. "Shugri, attack!" He yelled up to his partner-in-waiting, having deemed the prey properly occupied. The croc was still attempting to disarm him, and Leo's strength could not hold forever. Leo's stance reference

Shugri watched below her as the crocodile made its move. After what was no doubt some sort of human battlecry, she heard Leo call for her to attack. She jumped down off the branch, her grip on her downward-pointed spear causing her knuckles to lighten. She had further down the shaft between her toes, using her feet to add stability to the strike. After all, she only got one shot at this. She feel around 12-15 feet downward, missing the spine, but driving the head of her spear through the chest-region of the creature. Her spear shattered from the force of the impact, being made of bone and wood. But it was not without effect. It punctured the creature's skin, and shattered parts of its bones as well, sending fragments and jagged edges into the lung of the crocodile. The creature hissed and cried in pain, suffering from a mortal, but not immediately fatal wound. Her spear gone, Shugri held on for dear life, using her size to try to wrap her legs around its belly, and using her arms to hold its jaw shut, a task that was not nearly as easy as one might thing. She kept trying to pull its head back, to expose the neck, only succeeding for a second or two at a time as the creature thrashed, and alternately tried to shake her off and drown her. "LEO ATTACK MOKALTALA! ATTACK!!" She screamed out in the scattered moments she was able to get her head above water. |
