| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

The city was much darker than he was anticipating. His surroundings were so much different from his home of Taras, but here is where he was needed most. Those he thought were his friends framed him for the murder of a dignitary, forcing him to flee Taras. Along his travels he heard rumors of the mass-corruption of Balefire and took it upon himself to ensure the innocent citizens were not taken advantage of. He couldn't risk trying to work publicly with local law enforcement, lest anyone pursuing him found out and came for him. The most unfortunate part of his exodus from Taras was not having any of his gear. He managed to acquire a sword and some crude leather armor from odd jobs on his way to Balefire, but he found himself missing the comfort of his steel plate suit. He felt defenseless in a town of subterfuge and shadows. Everywhere he looked were cloaks stalking the shadows, watching him and possibly waiting to relieve him of his possessions. He made his way quickly to the town square, where the most light could be found. Perhaps coming here was a bad decision if he was going to be on edge the whole time. "No. I have to do this, innocents are at stake." he thought to himself, trying to steel his resolve. After a quick scan around he saw no lurking figures and made his way to a tavern he passed on his way to the square. Within seconds of entering he made eye contact with a tall elf behind the bar, who waved him over. Leofrick walked over and grabbed a seat on an empty stool. "What ails you, friend? You have an aura of doubt about you." Leofrick averted his eyes and sighed, cause the elf was right. "I doubt I can be of any positive use to the people here. I doubt I can help people that truly need it. I-" The bartender held up his hand at Leofrick, halting his forming rant. "There is a farm a mile outside town to the south on the edge of Gloomwood. They have been sending aid requests for feral beasts that are ransacking their livestock and crops. When you get there tell them Elmon sent you." The elf waved him away and continued with his work. Leofrick looked down and saw a note on the bar in front of him. He stood up and went to a corner away from the other patrons and opened the note. "Be careful on your way out of town, the south roads have been frequented by thieves." He folded the note back up and walked out of the tavern, making his way to the south gate. It was a short walk from the tavern. As he approached the gate the 2 armed guards stopped him. "Hold, traveler. Gloomwood is a dangerous place right now and you look a bit under-prepared with just a sword and little armor. The teeth of the beasts out there will tear through you." Leofrick gave his gear a quick once-over and smiled. "Worry not, I have everything I need for beasts and monsters. It's people it won't help against." The gate guard nodded at him. "You sound like a native to Balefire already. Pass, but be on your guard." Leofrick passed through the gate, the landscape as dark and gloomy as the city, just without the lanterns to illuminate his path. He kept one hand on his sword's hilt as he made his way down the southbound road to the farm. He did his best to remain vigilant in case of unexpected visitors. After a few minutes he saw the treeline to the forest, and the farm Elmon had told him about. As he inspected the condition of the farm from afar, two cloaked figures emerged from behind a tree on each side of him. "So someone finally came to help the poor farmers? I'd turn around and head back like a good little adventurer." Leofrick laughed and approached the figure, standing over a head taller than him. Looking down at the man he snickered. "That sounded an awful lot like a demand instead of a suggestion. Maybe you happen to know something you aren't telling me." The two figures drew jumped back, drawing daggers they had hidden under their cloaks. Leofrick laughed at the display. "Oh, is this really happening? Please tell me this is happening." He drew his longsword and gave the two a smirk. The two assailants began backing up, not expecting an eager opposition. "You know what? This isn't worth our time. But be warned, you'll regret interfering." With that they sheathed their weapons and disappeared into the shadows again. Leofrick finally made it to the farm. He looked around to see if anyone was home. After a short time he heard a voice call out. "What business do you have here? Are you one of them?" Leofrick turned and was met by an older man clutching a staff. "I'm here at the behest of a elf named Elmon. My name is Leofrick Azor, and I was dispatched to help this farm." The old man relaxed at hearing the elf's name. "Thank you for agreeing to help then, sir. There is something nearby that frequently robs our farm of food and destroys anything containing it. We haven't seen exactly what it is that is doing this, but we know it stands on two legs and is about three heads taller and is twice as wide as you. We also saw a large tail and it's low growl shakes our home." Leofrick sat inside the old man's home, waiting for the beast to appear. Hours passed before he heard the house-shaking growl the old man described. He jumped up and rushed out the door, rounding the corner of the house coming face-to-face with the beast. The beast lurched forward into the light of the house's lanterns, revealing not just any beast, but a enormous manticore. It continued it's approach, also revealing an arcane control mark. Someone was using this monster to raid the farm. Leofrick jumped back, drawing his sword. He knew he couldn't he couldn't take the manticore down himself, he'd need back-up and lots of it. He steeled himself for the inevitable attack, but before the manticore could move an arrow flew past Leofrick, striking the monster in the shoulder. Beside a tree near the house Elmon stood, bow drawn with another arrow nocked and aimed at the manticore. "Forgive my late arrival, friend. This should be over quickly now." Elmon smiled as a ball of fire arched over the house and struck the manticore. The old man walked up next to Elmon, holding his staff. Leofrick was taken aback a bit, not expecting the two before him to be combatants. "Keep his attention, friend. We'll take care of the rest." Elmon yelled out. Leofrick nodded in acknowledgement, and stepped in front of the manticore. "Down here, beast!", he yelled at his enemy. The manticore set his sights on Leofrick and took a swing with his giant arm. Leofrick put up his sword and braced for the impact, deflecting a portion of the force. The manticore kept swinging, keeping Leofrick on the defensive, making him parry every attack. The rampage of the manticore kept him busy long enough for Elmon and the old man to coordinate an attack of arrows and fire, scorching the beast and piercing his neck. The manticore staggered from the blood pouring from his neck, giving Leofrick an opening to thrust his sword upward into the beast's chest, striking his heart and lungs. Within moments the beast collapsed to the ground, broken and lifeless. Leofrick was winded and severely fatigued, barely able to stand after the battle. Elmon grabbed Leofrick's arm and helped him stay up. "Well done, friend. I knew I made the right decision recruiting you. Sorry for not disclosing my involvement, you can't trust everybody. But to accomplish this mission I needed a frontline fighter and someone with good intentions. You filled the part perfectly." Leofrick chuckled. "Too bad I don't have the armor I'm use to. This leather is scraps compared to my old platemail." Elmon assisted Leofrick into the house, helping him onto a makeshift cot the old man had made for him. "Rest easy, friend. We'll continue our talk in the morning." |
