Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Mezizi lived his entire life underground and had never seen a large body of water before. While he was on a mission to find soldiers to fight in his war he knew that he needed some time to decompress. His conversations with his handlers were intensive and he found himself rather anxious. The goblin looked behind him and saw two guards following him closely, 'this is different than Istan', Mezizi thought to himself. He had freedom within that city because of the political alliances that he had made, but here he was just another crook. He would have to make his best effort to befriend some powerful politicians as well as soldiers if he was going be free in this city. While he promised to be on his best behavior he knew that he would have to go to some of the shadier areas of Taras to find the people he needed.

Could he sneak away from the guards? Absolutely. Could he kill the guards? More than likely, but could he do so while without being hunted down like an animal? That was the unfortunate reality that Mezizi was living with. It was all necessary if he was to find the people that he needed and he couldn't do that in some prison cell.

Before long he found himself confronted by the two guards following him. "You've been requested", the taller of the two guards said. The translator one Mezizi's mask took in the words and spit out its translation in Goblinoid, "O'zaan rhaac kaaroraa"?

Looking up at the guard Mezizi shook his head and answered, "Rhec duul"? Just as he did this the translator buzzed once more and began to exert a voice, "By whom?".

The guard seemed to chuckle at this and pushed him forward ignoring his question. Before long he found himself by the Taras docks and the water looked beautiful. It was unlike anything he'd ever seen. Little did he know he would die if he fell in. Swimming wasn't something they taught the goblins in Xibalba since it was in the middle of the desert.

They walked a further into the dock the two guards pushed Mezizi closer to a different guard. "Here's the one you asked for." The guards said to the newer guard. Mezizi didn't bother to use his translator as he was iplicity told not to when they weren't talking to him directly. A way to keep him in the dark he supposed. Mezizi looked at the guard and awaited the answer to why he was here.

Kaalia stood on the docks, spear in hand and lost in thought. The ocean breeze was more tranquil than usual and the lack of boat traffic made the bay more peaceful. She had to get as much rest as she could before she began her hunt in earnest. She had been looking into this group of smugglers for weeks, a group led by a mysterious figure. No one knows what the leader of looks like or his name, so the guard and port crews began calling him Shadow. The frequency of illicit goods passing through the port had become more suspicious, given the contents. There was no consistency in the type of goods, almost seeming random, but still illegal. The strangest package was the arm of a very large combat golem.

She would have more time to sort through everything in her mind later. Right now she was waiting for a group of her squad to return. They had been sent out to find and obtain help from a goblin rumored to be in town. Goblins came in two varieties in her experience, reckless and unpredictable, or stealthy and cunning. From what she had heard this goblin was the latter and would be indispensable in her investigation.

After a few moments she saw her squad members approach, goblin in tow. He was small in stature, but people learn quickly not to misjudge goblins by their size.

"Welcome, I'm Sergeant Feloria but you may call me Kaalia if you are so inclined. I apologize if my guards were not very amicable. I don't expect goblins to be as cooperative as you appear to be. But to the point, I need your help. Rumor has it that you are more than adept in stealth and the prey is elusive and perhaps more even adept in stealth than you."

She relaxed her grip on her weapon and let out a frustrated sigh, "In other words, name your price."

Mezizi looked the sergeant up and down trying to size her up in case this got ugly. Meziz decided that if things went in that direction he would more than likely lose. There were two guards still behind and she was without a doubt well trained. Mezizi was a warrior, but they took away all his weapons so he lacked the means to do anything at all. Luckily the situation did not yet call for such actions, so there was no real use thinking about it.

The Sergeant then began to speak in common which Mezizi unfortunately did not understand. Luckily he had the universal translator, "Laanchuunlaan, A'gh Taagaac Dhaal'duugaal rhor o ghuul shach ghaan Mal'daal ar o agaan tuun akekaal. A akhuul'duurlekaan ar ghec hor daagaan khruur zaagec alkelakaan. A druuc'd ogaan huukec duun rhaan an shuukhaagakhegaan an o akhaar duun rhaan. Rhor duun daan huuc, A khraal or maach. Kolkuur man ar dar o agaan ghuugaan dac arthaac ac taach ac daan haan an ol'doregaan ac haagac ghuugaan ogaac arthaac ac taach dac o." Mezizi nodded silently to what the translator was announcing. Mezizi smirked when the Sergeant thought there was someone was stealthier than him. She didn't see the amount of damage he did to the Istani armor in his time. Either way the goblin saw this as a challenge and was about to eagerly accept. Just as he was about to open his mouth the sergeant spoke again,"Aalc okhaar duur, khralkaan or helaan."

Just as she said that Mezizi stopped in his tracks. Anything? He thought to himself. This was his chance. If he would help her find this smuggler than he would have an ally against the Drow army. Mezizi could barely hide his excitement and blurted out, "A'k maach o! A'k maach o ac akec duul dar A shac ar o arlaan duun dhec der ghaan kakhaar". Just as he spoke the translator buzzed and announced, "I'll help you! I'll help you in any way that I can if you agree to fight with me later". Mezizi paused briefly and then added, "Ghec haakhaan agaan shogaakec okagaal rhec a Druul agec. Ar o arlaan duun dhec der ghaan ac ghec huuc or tuul'der dar A taar A dech shar den torlaar dhuur o" The translator activated again and it said in common, "My people are currently enslaved by a Drow army. I am working to put together an elite team to take them out. If I take out this smuggler can I count on your help?"

Mezizi eagerly awaited the sergeants response.

Kaalia paused for a moment. An open conflict with an elven army? She wouldn't be able to take any of her squad to avoid drawing attention to her fighting what was essentially a war while employed by an uninvolved city-state. She knew of the Drow, and the stories of their ruthlessness, but never witnessed it firsthand. She made up her mind, "Alright my little goblin friend, you have a deal. If you don't mind it just being me."

She turned to her squad members, "Get our friend some weapons, from this moment on he is part of our squad. Find out what he needs. Dismissed!" The guards scattered, one turning to Mezizi to get a list of what he needed.

Kaalia looked out on the water. This was going to be a challenge, both her mission and her new ally's.

"Dac o! O shaagakec duuc'd kaarlaar magec ghaan an ac al'dec. Daan tuuch dach al'duukaan duuc ac draagaal'duuc a hac!" Mezizi said with a smirk. He found himself an ally, but hopefully it would be one that would be worth it. The translator then began to speak, "Thank you! You certainly won't regret having me as an ally. We should talk alone though and develop a plan."

Mezizi's smirk grew even larger when it was made apparent that he would get his daggers back. He took the pen and paper and wrote a list of daggers. More specifically the daggers that were stripped from him when he came to the city-state. "Dac o! O shaagakec duuc'd kaarlaar magec ghaan an ac al'dec. Daan tuuch dach al'duukaan duuc ac draagaal'duuc a hac." and then the translator repeated, "Don't worry I'll return them again once our mission is over"

Kaalia nodded in agreement. "Let us step inside away from those who would eavesdrop and interfere." She looked at the list Mezizi had written down and his declaration to return them. "Don't worry, once they are in your possession they are your again. You'll need them for the Drow."

Her "office" was simply a small room next to the port. Once inside she disclosed the plan she had so far. "Right now we are planning to lure Shadow's crew to 'steal' the confiscated goods we found. We are thinking the golem arm. They are too expensive to be a decoy. The plan is for us to take out one of them and I disguise myself and infiltrate while you tail us and scout for the leader. I will have to rely on you to be my blade til we find Shadow."

Mezizi nodded and smirked as Kaalia told him that his weapons were his for good. Luckily he would not need to scavenge for anything that was close to a dagger. He had his diverse set of blades that have served him well for as long as he could remember. It was also good to hear that Kaalia was committed to fighting the Drow, as he would need all the help he could get.

"I like your plan, but it has its flaws." Mezizi said speaking directly through the translator. He preferred for people to think that the device took a while to activate, but since he was in such close quarters he could speak at ease. "I have a feeling that you tried something similar and it didn't work. Am I right? The shadow, as you call him, is a master smuggler and shouldn't be underestimated". Mezizi was probably overstepping his bounds at this point, but he wanted to speak as bluntly as possible.

"When I tracked and murdered the Istani army I always went for small forces before heading towards the forts. I say we walk into the area with the most known smugglers and bring one of them here. I'll take care of the rest. If they know anything they'll talk...trust me." Mezizi said chuckling softly.

Kaalia was surprised to hear his translator work without delay. But she shook her head at his assessment. "We have no tried this tactic yet. We have tried stake-outs to catch and interrogate here at the docks, but we haven't tried open conflict to bring one here. If we are to 'arrest' one and bring them here for interrogation, we can't do so with uniformed guards. This mission is already off-record so we can't risk anyone else getting involved and tipping off our prey." She thought about it for second. "Ok Mezizi. If we were to track a smuggler without alerting his friends using just us two, how would you suggest we proceed? There is a place where suspected smugglers gather, at a tavern about 4 blocks north. Lots of alleyways and hiding places."

She let out a small laugh, "I'll leave gathering the info from our soon-to-be prisoner to you, I'm sure the daggers you requested will see some light, if not blood."

"Oh, well, then perhaps it's worth a try. I remain firm that we should try and capture someone to gather information." A look of joy then crossed Mezizi's face. He had it! He knew how he was going to capture the smuggler. Now it was about putting the plan into motion. "I know how we can do it!" Mezizi said changing pace. "I'm the key! Don't you understand? We should use me as bait!" He added in excitement talking outside of his usual tone.

"Bring me to this Tavern. We will find someone, anyone, and interrogate him. I will sneak out and say that I am your captive and am only doing this to secure my release. I'll then ask if they can arrange a meeting with this smuggler, this shadow, to see if they'd be willing to smuggle me away from this city." Mezizi then suddenly stopped. What's in it for them? What's in it for them? He thought to himself.

"Do you have anything that he wants? What about that golem arm? I could agree to help him steal something if he would agree to help me flee. As soon as I make contact with him that will be all. I'm an expert at capturing an opponent, so we will be done before you know it".

"What will be the obstacles?" He asked, honestly.

Kaalia thought for a moment. Mezizi brings up a good point, and goblins have a reputation that preceded them. If he can convince them that he is a potential ally then Kaalia would do whatever she could to put Mezizi's plan into motion.

"That golem arm is a distinct possibility, the kind we seized fetches more than the average citizen makes in a moon. But perhaps he'll want something more...substantial. If he thinks a sneaky goblin can fetch him a bigger prize he's sure to take it." She pondered the rest of her options. "I can attest to the fact that smugglers are no pushovers in armed conflict. They know how to hide in shadows and strike at opportune moments. They are likely to have spies near the tavern to watch for guards and threats."

She stopped for a moment. Is Mezizi using this same tactic on her? Is she a willing victim to the same scheme to acquire what he wants?

A wide smile spread across the small goblins face. This plan was coming together and he knew it was only a matter of time before he would bring this smuggler in, but he remained aware that this would still be a struggle. Either way Mezizi looked forward to the challenge as it's been around a year since he had to test his abilities against a worthy opponent.

"So I'll be bate then. I'll help him steal the golem's arm which will lead him to believe that I am capable of more. Once I show him this I will get into his inner circle and have him". Mezizi said thinking out loud. "I am not worried about their fighting ability. Trust me when I say I can handle myself. These blades are not for show." He said with a stirn look.

"I do forget though...Do I have to bring this smuggler in alive?" He asked with the stirn look changing into a wide smile once more.

Kaalia laughed, "Alive is a matter of perspective. As long as he can talk it's good enough for me. Right now the main focus is getting to him. How he gets back to me is up to you."

She walks to a nearby crate and pops it open, revealing the golem arm. "This has already been appraised. This is valued just enough to buy a decent-sized ship, which is why I think he'd want it."

She thought for a moment, Mezizi is walking right into the den of the largest smuggler group she knows of in the city. They must have a sizable force at there disposal with eyes on every corner to evade capture this long.

She dismissed her concerns and turned back to Mezizi, "Here's your key, find the lock it opens and get the prize. If it doesn't work then break the door down and take it by force. I'll be on standby if I feel you are at too much of a disadvantage. Though I don't think they'll be too much trouble with their leader disposed of."

Mezizi smiled a wide smile as she said that alive was a matter of perspective. He wasn't necessarily bad at getting opponents back alive, but there was something about stabbing that he enjoyed as well. Then again, rules were rules. "I'll make sure he is able to talk." the goblin said keeping his smile.

"I'll make sure to bring it in for the 'negotiations'". Mezizi smiled as he leaned the value of the golem arm.

Mezizi grabbed the key and thought about the plan. "I had a thought a while back and I wanted to hear your perspective. Either way I'll be off to deal with our smuggler friends. When you come in and arrest the lesser smuggler make sure you take me in as well and put us in the same cell. It will give me an opportunity to gain his trust". Mezizi said stopping to take a breath. "What are your thoughts?"
