| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

“Quickly!” As soon as the words spat into the air the massive reptile turned its longer neck around and faced an outwardly jutting cliff-side that walled behind it. Each step it took against the stony earth sounded like metal striking against the surface as the longer claws acted like hiking picks and the drake moved to the rocks as it climbed vertically with ease. The crown of feather that sprouted through its neck and followed its spine ruffled in the wind it created while scaling the wall, its large feathered tail swinging behind it as it moved rapidly to either the left or the right to dodge pits in the stone. The enormous beast chewed on the bit, large enough for two full adults to ride, and clicked its throat while it gained height. Down upon the ground, Glanice had taken off on the Rayka deer, all six legs throwing up a storm of dust in her wake. X’yros nudged the beast on as he leaned backwards into the seat that supported his back and prevented him from falling off at this task. When the rocky wall made a lip of an overhang, the reptile climbed it. He looked below them for a second as they were completely upside-down now, only his strap around his waist and the cuf around his legs kept him in place on the massive leather saddle. A few more grappling placements forwards and the drake was over the lip. X’yros felt a little more at ease now that they were back to being on top of solid ground instead of below it. Despite using this vibrant beast every day, height was still a problem for him. The wind threw a strong gust against the back of his head as they looked over the dusty plains far below. He could make out the cloud of dust his friend tore up growing fainter by the second. Grabbing a tighter hold on the reins the drake began to prepare itself, muscles tensing, eyes forwards, and a flurry of head-movement as it scoped out its path. The flock would be fine until he returned. In his mind, he was worried. According to Glanice this was too early, he wasn’t supposed to be summoned back to the village for another week or so yet. Nerves running high, he closed his lids and sighed. As soon as he parted them, he leaned forwards. The drake took three full lunges forwards, hard, and then jumped upwards off of the ledge. Its front arms stretched out to the sides and the massive, broad feather flattened out along the inside of its front legs. The wind coming from behind them gave them an extra push as they were carried forwards. X’yros held his skull closer to the animal’s neck and slackened the reins while leaning forwards. The drake dove down in a low arch before he pulled it up. The wind tunneled against the pair and their surroundings blurred. A screaming of air passed them as the drake glided so effortlessly through the pass. They caught up to the Rayka in nothing short than 10 seconds, still a far distance from the ground. They passed the animal and flew across the open plain at a very slight descent to keep them from falling. The drake’s tail acted like a rudder when the large natural stone pillars came up. They weaved through them with practiced expertice. To the tallest one, they continued gliding straight at it at a fierce speed. It would look like they were about to plow into it fast enough to cut it directly in half. X’yros switched, sitting back into the seat and kicking the heel down. The drake followed the command and slammed a hard landing into the stone, its talons sinking like butter on its surface. Again they climbed vertically, though now the drake climbed with a little bit more speed, like a lope. When they reached the top the animal was scrambling at the thin hold but once it steadied itself they looked over a beautiful scene. They wouldn’t be able to make a straight shot to the village. They would of have landed about half-way there, and then it would take at least most of the day to make it on ground. So this was the best point they could gain more distance with. X’yros waited for another gust of wind to see what they’d be dealing with. Another gust from behind. The drake chirped excitedly. He leaned forwards again, and again, with a hard shove the drake took to the sky in an outstretched glide. The wind flattened the feathers against its skull and plastered into X’yros’ face. They soared over a twisting river, across trees that lined the banks, over herds of animals manned by other Sang’Vii that turned to watch the pair shoot by overhead. The drake had flown this path enough times to know where to go. As they began to descend and the ground gradually rose up to meet them outside of the village, the drake chirped and pulled up sharply. It flapped it’s front legs and landed with an echoing thud onto strong hind legs before dropping to fours. X’yros patted the animals thickly-scaled neck as it sneezed from the dust it turned. A quick nudge and the animal awkwardly loped forwards like a hound into the village where a few were already gathered to meet them. He pulled the animal to a halt and unstrapped himself, throwing his legs over the saddle and onto solid ground. Someone took the drake’s reins and led it off to water and the stables. “Congratulations!” One of the females bowed her head and a few others called out as well as they began to lead him to the prize of a new family. Link His vision burst from his lost eyes as if someone had tossed a pebble into his mind and caused a series of ripples that distorted his memory. Eyelids connected for a moment as the man watched the feather drift further down until it brushed the fringes of his outer garment that had been tossed heartlessly around his feet. This was his escape. His insides had turned grey and fallen like the ash from a raging fire. In his hands loosely clutched a soft black garment, still it clung with an intoxicating smell. A low groan emitted through his mouth as he slammed his head back into the tree. “What a fool am I.” The muscles in his arms flexed as he tightened the grip he had on the furred hood. “What have I done.” The raven only tilted its innocent head at him from its perch on a lower branch, unsure how to answer the question. Still soaked up to his elbows in scarlet fluid, he shakily stood and released an uneasy sigh, refusing to look at the scene littered around him. Instead Jurdan chose to limp off. Leave it all behind. His feet took him many miles back to a warmly lit room dancing with the excitement of a wood-fed flame in a stone fireplace. Up until this point all of the faces he had passed had been blurred out and distant as he focused on the one thing he trusted could bring him sanity. The door creaked open and quietly shut behind his tall frame. The raven colored cloak was tossed against the back of a chair and the man slumped forwards into light arms that invited him with a soft smile against waves of black. He stood wrapped in the moment and drinking in a scent that washed his fears away with the speed of a flashfire. “I will not hurt you again.” His breath was a whisper pushed into the soft locks of hair his skull rested gently upon. “Don’t ever leave me.” |
