Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Malaure was surprised at Silnimare's actions. Sure Malaure was a dare devil, but one had to respect things bigger than oneself. She quickly scanned the ground she found an outcropping nad toock shelter as the blast passed by. Steam, still curled around the rocks and burned her scales a bit, but it was not too bad thanks to her heritage. It still stung painfully. She had hopped to out run it, but she was not going to abandon the other two. Her bones had felt the presure wave and comlained a bit, but that went away after a couple minutes.

Malaure came out after the explosion and looked for her companions and when she reached them she asked, "Umm okay so that was unexpected.... no big spells until we figure out what that was okay?....Also some reason you do not want to be pulled out of a freak blast wave Silnimare? Also those abilities looked familiar.... did you train in the Primal Fist with my brother Kaess or something? He is the only one I know who teachs things like that frost glide thing.. sigh we need to calm down and figure things out."

Malaure felt like her mind was processing too many crazy things amd sat down while she thought on things.

Silnimare looked at the situation, her options dwindling. Everything about her person was irritating this island. She turned to Kaalia and Malaure, and sighed.

"As for Primal Fist, I've never heard of Kaess. My angel taught me. On the subject of big spells, we are agreed..."

Even as she spoke, the portal began closing back up.

"Sorry, didn't mean to seem ungrateful. I used to be weak, it's what cost me my eyes. I've spent the last seven or so years getting stronger. I guess I just don't like the feeling of needing rescue. Please, I meant no offense. But I do agree, this needs rethinking. Perhaps straight to the temple, quick and quiet, get what we came for and run?"

Kaalia slowly made her way to Malaure, the heat making her new wings harder to use.

"I think at this point no magic is our best bet. If we are to find our objective, we need to keep a low profile from now on."

She scanned around a saw a climbable path about a hundred yards from their position. "If we are to move we need to figure out the game plan soon, the heat is making my burns worse." She pulled back her sleeves to reveal burned patches of skin on her hands and forearms. "Flying is out of the question now for me at the moment, but I spotted a makeshift foot-path on the volcano. i think the monkeys made it to climb up."

Malaure nodded to Silnimare's explinantion. Honestly it was an overreaction on Silnimare's part, but not an unresonable one. People just had quirks to them, "Ah I see problematic past... I get that. Some things just leaves marks on you.

Though it seems we are agreed we should head for the temple. It is the most obvious destination. Kaalia lead the waym. I did not see this path and it is much preferable to finding our own."

They headed out and found a winding path. It even showed signs of being constructed at harder pints with solidly carved and maintained stone steps. Malaure noted she had underestimated these apes ifcthey had made this road. They may be much smarter than many tribal races were. Or were these made by someond before the apes.... she pondered this. They came to a bend that oooened up putting them on the edge of a clif face. The road snaked back and forth for about another two hundred feet before reaching the temple.

However, that was not the only thing of note. Bellow them they could see a things moving bellow and loud sounds of fire monkeys. Maybe chanting it was to far away to make out words. Still it was clear a group was moving up along the lower parts of the path. It was hard to sed them as this group was probably near the begining of the path up. They had joined this road half way up it. A few bits of fire flew up at times from the dots bellow, but it looked playful or maybe cerimonial.... hard to tell. Their village was probably near the bottom of this path or not far off.

Backing away from the edge Malaure sighed, "Did not want to push too hard given we took a bit of beating back there, but guess we should pick up the pace before the locals show up."

She got ready and planed to start moving quicker up the path.

OOC: The fire mokeys are much farther down. It is hard to estimate how far they have to go as the path is only partially visible at spot and covered by the forest for the most part. Still the group hiked up about half of this path way and that took an hour. So it is fair to estimate that the monkeys will arrive two hours after the party at the temple. Malaure is willing to listen to other ideas should they be purposed.

Silnimare made her way up the trail along with the others. The mark on her forehead was continually showing her the flowing mana that surrounded them. The stones beneath her feet definitely didn't seem like the type they had seen in their previous encounter with the flamboyantly fiery simians. She lamented her worn skin and clothing. Perks of being undead, it didn't really hurt. She decided to try to lighten the mood. and she ripped off her left arm, and tossed it to Malaure.

"I figured you'd need a hand, figuring all this out."

Kaalia followed the group up the trail, a bit slower than she normally would have. She was exhausted from the heat around her and her injuries made even walking difficult.

At Malaure's suggestion she decided to try to endure the pain a bit more and quicken her pace. She did not want to deal with whatever was following them, hostile or not. She was motivated to walk faster as her curiosity for the contents of the temple increased. What might they find in there, beside hopefully the treasure they already sought. Temples, more times than not, had at the very least remnants of old magic in tomes or scriptures. She just had to remember to use as little magic as possible here, for fear of the island retaliating. The heat only increased the further up the path they traveled, and Kaalia wanted to make a small wind to cool them off, but she didn't want to risk it. If the island reacted to all magic then she had no choice but to suffer until her wings healed.

"Malaure, since it'll be a little longer before we reach the temple I have a question. You are dragon-kin, right? Are there any others out there or dragons like the ones that made the compass?"

Malaure grabbed the arm by relfex before seeing what it was and bbarely manged to keep from chucking it away as hard as she could. She ended up tossing it back though a little harder than necessary, "Gahhh! Huph. Huph .......okay not going to ask how, but please do not do that again. I.... just don't...umm you can reconnect thst right?"

Her heart beat a bit. Jeeze a construct doing that she could handle, but that was clearly flesh. She knew Silnimare was not alive in the normal way, but that.... was i an indead thing. She just felt unearved by that. A warrior who did not care about their body like that.... dangerous in several ways.

Thankfully Kaalia waa more normal and asked a wonderfully distracting question she could focus on. Relief on her face she turned towards Kaalia. "Yeah dad is a gold dragon. A very big and old one too. He is a Western type. So not as focused on magic.... not to say his magic is not rediculously powerful. I would offer to introduce you, but he tends to olay pranks by transforming his guests for amusement.... plus his jokes are terrible and he barely understands the concept of time.

As for others well I have an older half brother named Kaess. He is like a hundred and thrity, so way older than me.. His dragon blood is stronger.... almost a full dragon really he said he awakened his blood or something. Still he mastered most physical combat and has strong magic too.

He is also the founder and grand master of the primal fist arts and owns a monastery on Therab. You should visit him Silnimare. He would love to meet another who learned the style outside of his school. Until I met you he was the only one I knew of who was self taught through the elements. He works a lot with the elemental planes, so I guess the style got passed through those realms or maybe he learned from them.... not sure really. Though from my understanding the style formed from the teachings of one of the old fallen gods of fire. Then my brother learned to expand it to the other three elements. He says he wants to create even more forms, but that it is hard moving beyond the primal elements.

As for other dragons. Yeah they are around. The southern dragons are one of the more common types if I rember correctly. Though of course not all make it to as old as this compass maker did. The old dragons of any type are scary. Still dragons do not breed fast.... so I guess compared to most races they are rare.

Hmm.... I guess my brother married a dragoness. Though I have not met other dragons personally. They tend to roam or be well hidden. My dad could probably say more or point you in the right direction.... if he is awake and if you can get him to listen and if you can get him to tell you the important parts before a decade passes. Well I never tried to wait that long... not that old, but dad does ramble on. Umm.... well you get the idea.

They were getting close to the top. One could see the temple. Solid obsidian and expertly carved with runes from the plane of fire and pictographs that would take a long time to figure out. It was tall and built into the mountain. The entry door way was at least thrity feet high too making. A wall in inside the room blocked the view of the inside of the temple from the outside, but it would be easy enough to walk around once they entered.

Malaure looked at the structure with interest. She wondered if the others had thoughts before going in, but her tail was twitching. She was ready to run inside. This place looked amazing.... dangerous challenging and probably fun all at the same time. Really her adventuring nature made her forget the pain from her wounds for a bit. OOC: Structure is in an Indian temple style, but half built into the mountain and the entrance is bigger than normal. Designed for something far larger than a normal humanoid.

You can look at the runes and such. You can probanly determine this temple is a major focus for controling or maintaining the barier. Controls for the barrier may be inside.

You can also find the barier will not react inside the temple if you exmaine the ruins and pictographs enough, but this will take time. At least half an hour.

Silnimare caught her own arm, and held it back against her shoulder until the tissue reconnected. She shrugged, and smiled.

"It always seems to come back."

Then Silnimare smiled at Malaure's explanation. She thought for a moment, before replying.

"Perhaps I will meet him, someday, if our paths cross. As for the proliferation of it, I would personally guess that he learned it from the elements. Magic, at its core, is something learned, often by observation and a bit of imagination. The path of the Primal Fist is, quite simply put, incorporating an element into your fighting style. Not simple using it as a mage would, but making it a part of your being. Bonding to an element or a plane is certainly nothing new. I would applaud him his ingenuity, but, no disrespect intended, he is probably not the first to utilize this bond, nor will he be the last, even if the precise style is his invention. Although again, that is simply my guess. I wish him luck in his ventures to expand the style."

After this, they came upon the opening to the temple. Sil could see the flow of the mana, although it certainly looked stranger here, and there were runes overlaying the stone, although she could not read them.

[[OOC: This is pending edit based on the question of whether or not the runes and pictographs are a written language]]

Kaalia's curiosity was sated after Malaure's exposition on dragons. She stood in awe at the entryway to the temple. The magic emanating from the structure over slightly overbearing, but they had come too far. Whatever lie inside had to be worth everything they encountered on this venture. The runes along the outside were active, but to what Kaalia had no idea. Her woulds had finally gotten the better of her and she sat on the ground.

"As eager as I am to learn what is inside, I need a small reprieve. These burns are a bit more than I'm use to."

She took a moment and opened a small gate to her plane, reaching in to pull out a jar with a salve and began to tend to her injuries. She offered some to the others. Hopefully she will have the energy and focus once they go inside to study what makes this island tick.

[[OOC: Not sure if Eternal Manor will trigger any effects, Kaalia is normally very vulnerable defensively and has little stamina as is.]]

Malaure paused and sat down with her back to a rock while she observed the building in front of them. Well this was certainly fancy. She really wished she knew more about runes and stuff. Then again even the other two didn't get much out of it. She understood the need for breaks and waited as Kaalia gout out salves from some portal or something. She accepted a bit of the salve and rubbed it on the worst of her wounds.

After resting for some time a loud rumbling voice boomed out of the temple. It was in the language of fire, "Jeeze can you adventures hurry up I am really board waiting for you. Sigh you never even can speak and are just going to run in here and fight me like the last few groups of idiots. I wish I could have a proper conversation and challenge for once."

Malaure raised a scaled brow at that and turned to Silnimare, "I don't suppose you understood that?"

If they went inside the temple they would quickly find a large room and in a large nearly molten chair of rock sat a massive fire elemental. One could feel the strength of this elemental from the entrance almost fifty feet away. They could also see three doorways about twenty additional feet behind the the elemental for a total of 70ft from the entrance.

Silnimare waved away the offer of balm. She held up her arms, which had already begun to heal the scald wounds.

"If I can handle having an arm severed, I think a little steam will be fine. But still, thank you Kaalia."

She then turned her attention to the entrance, after hearing the declaration of the creature that was inside. Her employer asked if she understood what was said, and she nodded.

"It wants to talk. Keep your swords and weapons put away, but don't let your guard down. I can see the energy rolling off this creature. Be careful. See you inside."

With that, Silnimare walked inside the entrance, feeling the mana and power of the creature wash over her. She continued on, unfazed, and made her way stoically down the entrance hallway. She strode up to about 20 feet away from the elemental, and nodded her head, her translator letting her speak in the tongue of fire.

"I speak to you, creature of flame and smoke. I understand your tongue, and accept your challenge. My comrades are right behind me, and I am sure that they would accept as well. Present your challenge, we will test ourselves against you, body and mind. Would that appease your boredom, elemental?"

She could feel the heat rolling off of him, although she felt no pain from it, courtesy of being undead. Her skin showed no signs of singeing, and her gaze was blankly forward, covered by her patterned blindfold. She hoped that they would not have to split up, but she had a nasty feeling about it.

Kaalia stowed her spear inside the Manor and followed Silnimare inside. Sil was speaking to the entity in a language she could not understand. The magical presence of the entity was overwhelming and the heat nigh-unbearable. It was obviously something that would drain her mana to near empty if she tried to summon that kind of power.

"I hope it doesn't decide to cook us for being here. I would really like the chance to study the place."

Regardless of what happened next the three of them would gain something in the end. One of the three doors had to lead to where they needed to go, but the imposing elemental made the prospect of an uneventful transverse through unlikely.

Malaure nodded at Silinmare's comment and while she had been reaching for her weapons, but pulled back. She cautiously followed behind Silnimare and seeing the creature in full was impressed. She could feel the fire magic as she was sensitive to it. She was glad she was a bit more resistant than the average person given her heritage, but damn it was still hot.

The fire elemental was surprised and actually looked down at Silnimare his fire twisted a bit into a somewhat frightening grin. Ah one who can speak properly and respectfully. It has been some time I will give you choice. You can play a game of wits, a game of intelligence or a test of agility. Or you can chose to challenge a combination of the above. I will let you pass for completing one. I will give you some advantages in proceeding if you do more than one. Now talk with your fellows and I will wait for your decision."

Malaure waited and when asked felt like she had the best chance in dealing with an agility test or maybe the wits one, but agility was certainly her strong point.

Silnimare paused to consider their options. The creature gave three paths: agility, wits, and intelligence. This was a rather universal set of traits, especially among adventurers. She pondered her strengths and weaknesses, and what she knew of Kaalia and Malaure. The blind one's mind raced, running through the options and probabilities. She asked her companions,

"We must play a game of wits, intelligence, agility, or some combination thereof. It is our choice. What do you both think?"

Her expression was stoic, and did not betray the anxiety and nervousness that lay beneath her cool exterior.

Kaalia thought about it for a few moments. She wasn't athletically-inclined like her counterparts, but she might be able to contribute to the mental challenges. Either way the challenge would be difficult, no matter their respective prowess.

"I'm favoring the intelligence or wit challenge, I feel I would be a severe hindrance in anything truly physical."

She knew Malaure and Sil could pick up the slack on the agility portion, and each of them had specialized knowledge in at least a couple fields of study so no matter what was chosen, she figured they could eventually overcome it.
