| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Malaure corrected Kaalia, "Little buggers and their big brothers are wlvery much physical creatures. Part Elemental... majority elmental maybe I am no scietist, but they are not made of only fire. Oh and watch out for lanky ones with fancy decorated sticks. Probably shamans and those guys can sling a mean set of spells. Oh an all the life here is resitant ti fire at the least." Soon they were ankored off shore. Some of the crew got a long boat ready, but Malaure spread her wings and jumped over the side. She flew low over the waves enjoyong the chalange of low altitude flight. She landed on the beach waiting for the other two to join her. The crew mostly stayed to watch the ship. Luckily it was easy to spit the volcano. On the down side they were treacking through some heavy jungle like terrain. When the other two arrived she grinned. She had seen Sil's smirk and knew the feeling well. Malure just dix not hold back such feelings. "Alright let us go find ourselves a compass piece." Malaure sould lead the claws on her gauntles easily able to make a simple path. About ten minutes in they would have their first small encounter. A group if five firemonkeys. Two went for Sil and two for Malaure and one for Kaalia. The cried out in Ignan the language of the fire plane. It certainly confirmed their heritsge as being linked there. Of course Malaure did not understand the crackling poping sounds of Ignan. She just punched one monkey that got too close taking it down as her gauntlent briefly burst through the fire surounding it. She then jumped away from a small burst of fire thrown by the seocnd one after her. She would leao after it. Her imoresive acrobatics making it easy for her to swing up to the tree the mokey was on and kick him to the ground to join his unconcious friend. The second one landed hard and twitched. She felt that maybe she had out too much power into her strike. She may have killed that one. She did not like that as they were sort of invading these guys home.... then again she did not feel too bad and was more than willing to kill her way to her goal. She just rather liked avoiding killing too much. One should not enjoy killing. Plus there was little challenge to it. |

Silnimare maintained her usual watch over the waters, as they drew nearer and nearer. Once they anchored, Silnimare noticed their employer flying low to the waters. Sil held her hands over the edge of the boat, and ice formed below, forming a platform beneath her. With a graceful swing, she hurdled over the side of the ship, holding her hands out in front of her as the water in front of her shifted to ice as well, leading to the shores. She walked at a brisk pace, her balance not shifting from the water washing over the surface of the ice. She felt the sand beneath her feet, but she knew that she had work to do. She followed behind Malaure closely, making sure that she was safe. Then, after some time had passed, she noticed fire monkeys, who shouted in their strange language, "Seize the intruders! Take them Down!" She watched as her boss took down two of them. Sil simply allowed them to approach, and responded in their language, using her armistice amulet to calm them enough to hear her. "Stop this attack. I don't wish to hurt you. Forgive my compatriots, they do not speak your tongue, and merely wished to defend themselves. We are not here to harm you, unless you force us. We are simply looking for something." One of the monkeys seemed to pause, but the other would hear none of it, and tried to swing at her with a fiery fist. Silnimare dodged easily, as years of training had honed her reflexes and acrobatics. She simply pushed him aside as his swing hit nothing but air, her considerable, nigh-draconic might, sending the monkey flying. Stunned, but not injured. Silnimare then turned back to the one that had stayed his hand. "May we talk peacefully? I can defeat you, but I do not wish to. Let use talk to whomever is in charge, if we may." Upon reaching the island Kaalia sees Malaure and Sil take off from the boat. She follows suit and uses Sil's ice bridge to access the beach. Spear in-hand she reaches the beach and within seconds was rushed by a fire monkey. Before she could react she was struck by a flaming fist from the monkey and was knocked back. "So this is a thing now." She sighed and muttered as she looked down to see a portion of her robe scorched. The monkey lunged again, looking to score another direct hit, but Kaalia dodged at the last second and stuck the spear into the monkey. Within moments her enemy was frozen in place. She removed her spear and hopped back, for the ice would soon give way. She raised her hands overhead and called out to her companions. "If you wanted diplomacy, they obviously weren't having it." and with that she threw her hands down, followed by an audible gust of downward wind. after a second the frozen monkey was crushed down into the sand, it's body shattered. "Now I have to replace my robe. Do you know how hard it is to find feathers like this?" OOC, Malaure's post spell checked

The other monkey fled and Malaure chanted a spell hitting it with a water spout. It was doused and knocked into a tree. She didn't bother to confirm if it was alive. "So you can understand those things Silnimare? Sorry, but it was probably going to tell the rest of the tribe. These guys are supper territorial. Maybe one of the bigger apes will listen though if we run into one. They are smarter... more dangerous too of course." She noted Kaalia was quite ruthless though. Being shattered just seemed a little much even for these guys. Plus they had a way to talk now... hmm... that changed things. "Hmm... getting those sort of feathers... they special or something. I would recommend wearing more normal clothes on expeditions in the future. Also since Silnimare can talk maybe we should avoid killing anymore if possible. A trail of dead bodies will hurt any chances to negotiate. Hmm... we should keep going I guess. Hopefully we won't run into more." Malaure continued for a bit and they eventually reached the base of the first hill after about fifteen more minutes of walking through the jungle. It was at this point that they started hearing more sounds of monkey and ape cries from different directions. None were from where they came, but it seemed a good number of groups were calling out to each other. Possibly moving through the area. Malaure was not one to hide, but she decided to pause for the moment. |

Silnimare stopped along with her employer. She, perhaps better than most, could hear the cries of the fire monkeys. Despite her translator, it was hard to make out any particular phrase, due to the sheer cacophony of it all. She let her foot slide back, preparing her in case of a surprise attack. A slurry of ice and water began to form along her arms and legs, preparing for the worst. "I don't think you should have done that, boss." Silnimare whispered to Malaure. Her body ceased its movement, as there was no longer a need to move until something happened. But she was waiting, and listening. "Kaalia, turn your back to me, in case they try to surround us. Trust me." Silnimare wanted a peaceful solution, but she was being paid to keep her boss safe, and she would do the same for Kaalia for free, so she had to be ready just in case. |

Kaalia positioned herself at Sil's flank, as instructed. She was reminded of their time as patrol partners and the counter-ambush training for confined areas. If Sil called for defensive formation then Kaalia knew something bad was about to happen. Only this time she hoped that gut feeling was wrong. As a precaution she forced her shroud of mana that was overhead to manifest, causing it to become visible and surround her. She called behind her to Malaure. "If you wish for negotiation we shall attempt as little lethality as possible and give Sil a chance to reason. Just know that offer is out the window if they fail to yield and start large-scale offensives." She was certain herself and Sil could pull their punches, but their lives were more important. Then again, she didn't want to disappoint her boss. |

Malaure stood for a bit seeing the other two ready to fight only to find the shouts not getting closer. About five minutes latter. The sounds were getting farther away, though there were still some running out there in the way of their path forward. None of the shouts came from where they had fought. Malaure spoke up, "Not sure they were running about, because of what we were doing. Though with that many moving about something big must be happening. Hmm... I wonder what they are up to? Hmm... search the volcano side or follow these guys and see what is happening? What do you two think?" Malaure waited to see what the other two thought before acting. She thought hard on their options. |

Silnimare thought long and hard about the options that she was facing. On the one hand, following the monkeys might result in a quicker resolution, on way or the other. On the other hand, the volcano seemed to be more of the main goal, and if the monkeys were a threat, they would catch up to them anyways. Silnimare leaned her head towards Malaure, her expression the same blindfolded stillness as always. "I would recommend that we seek the volcano. One way or another, our issues with the natives will resolve, in time. At least, that is my guess." |

Kaalia lowered her weapon and turned to the others, "I agree with heading to the volcano. We have a goal and from how it sounds, we can avoid a large resistance force heading to our original objective." Either the volcano has what they need, or the monkeys have it at their village. Regardless, they will not leave without it. |

Malaure nodded and they waited a bit as the voice grew a bit farther off and spaced out. Malaure then waved them forward. They continued up the side of the volcano slowly. It was hard going for a while, but they seemed lucky to avoid more encounters for a bit. Malaure decided not to talk to much as they could still hears some cries of the fire monkeys at times. They were getting up there when the forest starting thinning a little letting them see a ways up. They also ran into a problem. They could feel the heat as an active lava flow flowed in front of them. It was directly in their path and about eighty feet across. Malaure paused a bit away. She didn't mind the heat rolling off to much and she could probably fly across. There were some stones in scattered in the flow. One might be able to jump between them, but at high risk of course. Malaure considered going this route as it was sort of a challenge, but she wasn't sure if the others could make it. They could also walk up or down the side of the flow trying find a better place to cross or get around it completely. They could also the top of some stone structure a bit farther up the volcano, but the lava flow was directly in the path of the most direct route to the structure. Malaure turned to her companions. "Well I feel like challenge this crossing and seeing what that structure is. Hmm or maybe we should look at the caldera of the Volcano first? Still want to try crossing this flow. It looks like a good challenge, but not sure if you two are up to doing that. I know not everyone shares my love of dangerous challenges. Or if either of you have an easier method to get across I am willing to listen." |

Silnimare surveyed the problem, trying to figure out if she knew a way across. She felt the moisture in the air around her, and she held a cold hand up to the sky. A torrential rain, like a Monsoon, began to pour from the sky directly onto the three of them, as well as over the lava flow. At first, it was nothing but steam, but as the water continued to pour, the lava flow began to slowly cool, until a swathe of it had cooled, enough for it to be crossed quickly. Silnimare held her hand aloft, but quickly ran across, not wanting to test her luck. |

Kaalia walked to the edge of the bank, overseeing the magma. "Challenge is all good and well, but we were hired for efficiency." She placed her hands on the ground and began producing a sigil. Kelsya's voice popped into her head. "I know what you are planning, and I think it's a bit of overkill." Moments later a huge water elemental rose from the ground sigil. It let out a wild roar and from behind them a giant tidal wave began to approach. "Ok, so I guess this is a thing we are doing now. Fine I was saving this for later but you'll need this now." Before Kaalia could respond she heard a loud rip and felt an anguishing pain as a set of black, feathered wings sprouting from her back. "Might want to try and use those now, your elemental is an idiot." Kaalia quipped back in her mind. "Yea I noticed, not what I wanted him to do." And with that flapped the wings and shot up into the air. |

Malaure was famikiar with the first spell still it was not a bad choice.... if this was normal fire. Lava just did not cool like that. Malaure was born with waring magics of water and fire and knew the reaction well. Even when it hit the ocean onky the top layer cooled and it took some time for the full flow to cool when submerged. At best this moonsoon would cause a thin layer of partially solidified rock. It probably would still burn their shoes off if they were not made of metal and even then their feet would burn. Thr only reason those stepping stones were sort of safe is they were solid boulders that suck several feet out of the lava flow. If course even she was surprised as the magic didn't even do that. The clouds had formed from the grand weather change magic, but the torrent of rain that started falling was hot. Not boiling, but it mostly steamed off the lava with little to no effect. Of course it got worse as Kaalia summed her elemental. It started summoing a massive wave of water near them and thd teperture started rocketing up. The tidal wave almost exploding fiercly under the intense heat. The party would lrobably take a painful shock wave hit even if they out ran or resisted the steam blast. It was then they all could start decting something strange. The island was protected by a barrier of the fire element. It covered the entire island and filled the inside too with many complex weaves of magic that formed and decended from thesurounding dome that formed the barrier. A pillar of fire magic from the volcano caldera seemed to be pfovidong power. It seemed to be reacting to the high level of water magic violently. Probably earlier spells or things were too weak for this barrier to activate. The moonsoon was being boiled away, but the fidal wave practicalky exploded as the barrier ramped up its power. The barrier was powered by a powerful leyline of fire magic. This natural wonder was enormously powerful and had been hidden until now. The entire island was filled with fire energy and the place probably had a connection to the fire plane given fire energy was resonating around them as the barrier poured raw magic into canceling the spells. It had no inteligence just raw power in rediculous amounts. It had been meant to gaurd against large natural disasters and threat. Thus the larger a spell of effect the more likely the barrier would react to it. It probably was defending some near the core of the barrier too, but they had not reached where those aditional weaves of magic would react. The barrier felt complicated and old, but new at the same time. No one was recorded ever tapping a leyline ofcthis size without consequences. One history mentioned an attempt whiping out an entire city though that was old stories/myths and hard to confirm. In truth leylines were often too rare and remote to be experimented on too much. Often attracted dangerous creatures too. Still someone had established this massive wonder of arcane power that was the barrier and tied it to a massive powersource called a leyline. How much Silnimare or Kaalua could understand was unknown, but they certainly could understand bits. It certainly had the potentially to reveal some hidden secrets of magic that masters often looked for. She did note that Kaalia had grown wings. She just yelled, "Grab Sil's other side and we fly for that temple now! We need cover from that steam cloud unless you want to get cooked." Grabbing one of Silnimare's arms and hopping Kaalia would get the other she took the sky flying hard. It was not easy carrying another person, but scalding death was a good motivator to push yourself a bit harder. Or at very least it Malaure's plan. Whatever was going on was well beyond her understanding and plane terrifing with the power being unleashed. Edited by Malaure, Tue Aug 1, 2017 8:18 pm.

Silnimare felt her employer grab her arm to carry her to safety, as she watched her powerful spell dissipate against the newfound threat. That was fine. Surprises happen. But one does not treat the Blind Bard of Taras like a helpless damsel in distress. Silnimare had felt that once. Once, and only once, and then she swore that that would never be her again. She broke free of the grip of her "savior", and started falling to the ground below. As she fell, the mark on her forehead had been constantly showing her the magic, and with the "barrier's" constant lashing now, she could see the flow of the energy. It all headed towards the mouth of the volcano, where a pillar of fire magic was erupting. As she drew closer and closer to the ground, the elemental stone around her neck glowed, and a ramp of ice formed below her, breaking the fall, and turning towards the volcano. It allowed her to move at a faster pace than even her athletics would allow. She made her way to the caldera up top, leaving a trail of ice that began to melt slowly, well behind her. When she reached the edge of the caldera, even her undead flesh, could feel the heat, but thankfully, her Blasphemous nature helped spare her any discomfort or pain. She knelt at the edge, her incredibly power hands etching a sigil just inside of the edge of the crater. Silnimare then placed her hands on her lap, focusing her will on the sigil. With a crackle of steam, a crack in the air near the sigil shifted to a deep blue, like water. Slowly, a portal to the elemental plane of water began to open, following the rim of the volcano. Silnimare couldn't fight an elemental plane's worth of power, at least not without significant injury. So, she simply resolved to let the energy from the plane of Water do it for her. As she knelt, the gateway of Water opened wider and wider, steam streaming wildly from the heat of the lava and fire below. Kaalia still was not use to her new wings and was flapping the wings clumsily, the steam suffusing the air around them. She catches sight of Sil on the lip of the caldera opening a portal, more steam pouring outward from it. "It will overtake her at this rate. You might want do something." Kelsya advises with a hint of boredom. Kaalia leaves Malaure's side and as quickly as she could floated her way down to Sil. The heat was overwhelming, her skin felt extremely hot. She stands next to Sil and motions her hands from one side to the other forcing a steady, powerful wind from overhead, off to the side, to the opposite corner of their position in an attempt to cool the area down and force the steam away. "Sil this might help but only for so long, if you have a plan make it quick. We need to regroup with Malaure." OOC, Malaure's post spell checked
