Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Malaure stood on the docks of Taras early in the morning waiting for the last few people to arrive. She had only met thek briefly, but they had the adventure look to them. Malaure did not discrimnate. Her small sailing ship rested in it's dock. Those approaching may have seen it come out of a magical bottle. The magic bottle really made owning her ship much easier. She waan't alway near ocean. The crew she hired was currently carrying a few extra supplies. She then saw her companions for this journey and waved them over. "Ah there you are. Here come on board and ket us go to my room. I can explain our journey a bit more once we get away from the docks, but until then let us get to know each other." Malaure had only described this as a treasure hunt and left the details vauge as she didn't want any rummors spreading 5hat might lure in her competition for this prize. The treasure she was looking for was big and a couple other parties were after it, but Malaure was a little ahead.

She led them to the her/captain's quarters. There she found a chair to sit in and relaxed. "Well I met you each briefly the otherday, but let us properly introduce ourselves. I am Malaure and will be the leader of this little expedition. I am a bit of a dare devil, master in unarmed combat and know a bit of magic due to my heritage. " She smiled waiting for other introductions.

Silnimare was surprised to find that anyone had approached her for work, that sort of thing hadn't happened for a while. She had left the common ranks of the guard, and now served in a more investigative role. The plus side to this, was that she had a great deal of freedom to pursue her own interests, although she still got missions from her superior, from time to time. She had nothing in particular on her docket, so she figured she might as well go along. She didn't need the gold, as she had no need to eat, sleep, or even breathe. She was average in height, unusually pale skin, with a lean, muscular build, modest chest, and rough, wavy red hair. Her eyes were covered by an elegant blindfold, and her forehead was marked by a tattoo of an eye, that allowed her to see the world around her through echolocation. She wore modest clothing, with a leather corset-style chestpiece.

As she was led into the office, she bowed slightly at her employer's introduction.

"I am Silnimare, servant of Taras, chronicler of the dead, and defender of the oppressed. I am equally capable with my fists, and magic."

Her presence seemed to fill the room with hope and a subtle morale boosting effect, as a side effect of the angel that dwelt within her. This was offset by the uncanny stillness of her frame, since she had no need to breathe.

Kaalia walked up to the group, slightly distracted by writing in yet another tome. She was a magic researcher with the Taras guard. Spear in-hand she stood next to Sil and went to introduce herself.

"Hello there, I am Kaalia. I am with the Taras guard, primarily as a researcher for magical events. Like my friend here I can fight with at all ranges, but I am more magically adept and less physically."

Her shroud of mana darted around her, not visible to the average eye. She looked over to her former partner and immediately felt something was wrong. After scanning over her Kaalia noticed Sil wasn't breathing.

"You know Sil, if you are trying to save air for the rest of us don't bother, there's plenty."

Malaure smiled at the introductions. She also felt a sligh lurch as the ship started leaving the dock. It seems like they were off. She had noticed Sil not breathing... that was odd. It seemed they knew each other too. Kaalia being familiar with magic as a researcher was going to help. She decided to ask a few questions, "Hmm.. yeah the not breathing is odd. I though you might be a golem, but it sounds like you aren't given your friends response. Oh and mind if I just call you Sil too? Also you two know each other?"

Once Silnimare had answered sh asked Kaalia, Interesting... well anyways can you expand on what sort of magics you have researched? This trip will be dealing with some elemental stuff, but a little more esoteric than the standard elemental usages. So just curious what you know."

Malaure smiled and then though about something. She got up shortly after Kaalia finished talking. She grabbed a few muggs and a bottle of a sweet alchohal she forgot the name of. Still it was good stuff and she offered a bit to her new companions. "Always nice to have a light drink while getting to know new people. Care for some?" She poured herself a gass of the booze. It was not strong, but sort of sweet like honney. Malaure liked all sorts of flavotes, but for light drinks she prefered the sweet and fruity ones.

Silnimare smirked at her friend's smart remark. She was surprised to see Kaalia here, and was happy to have someone familiar. Some things never changed. She then turned her attention to Malaure, her blindfolded face making her expression difficult to read.

"I am not a golem. My not breathing may seem odd to you, but I simply learned to fuel my body from sheer will. And Silnimare will do just fine, no offense intended, of course."

She bowed slightly with the last phrase, but between her lack of breath, her deliberate movements, and the general stillness that surrounded her, it was a bit unnerving for many. She turned her head towards Kaalia slightly, and added,

"It is good to see you again, Kaalia. It's been too long."

She accepted the offered drink, enjoying the taste, as food and drink were now pleasures rather than necessity.

"So, Kaalia, managed to summon a boyfriend to pull the stick out of your butt, yet?"

Once more her mouth lifted in a smirk, and for a moment, she almost seemed to be her old self.

Kaalia glared at Sil, declining to respond to her comment. She turned back to Malaure, taking one of the cups.

"My field of expertise is the planes. I'm primarily a summoner so I must strive to understand the nature and homes of my entities. While not as well-versed in any particular element as a mage dedicated to one domain, I am learned enough to utilize each one for offensive and defensive purposes. Elemental runes are a struggling point for me though. My secondary field which I am currently studying on is primal energy: understanding and harnessing pure arcana."

Kaalia takes a drink from her mug and switches topics. "To answer you other question, Sil and I joined the guard at the same time and were paired together as recruits. Our friendship is based purely on sarcasm and trying to irk the other. Don't mind us too much."

Malaure felt Silminare was a bit weord, but in a good way. Weird kept things interesting. She would have prefered using a shorter nick name, but oh well maybe once they knew each other better. It was too bad that Kaalia did not know much in the way of runes. Malaure felt those might be involved. Well at least she had some notes collected for this journey that might help. Though the knowlege of the planes and summoning was interesting. Not a super common area of study.

Malaure decided now was a good time to elaborate on the job. She fished out a complex piece of a circular compass. It was clearly old, but also surprusingly advanced. Something people would have normally only been able to make recently with magitech. There were four other pieces that she did not have. This one was represented water and had complex magical formations carved into it's various parts. It glowed showing a decently powerful aura. "Well then on to the main subject. This is the first of five piece to a compass. It took a lot of work and doving into a giant whirlpool to get this one piece. Fun adventure that. From there I got hints that pointed to a small island I ran across once. No name, but I call it Fire Monkey Island. We are head that way now. Probably be there in about four days or so depending on the winds.

We will have to deal with the natives and whatever defenses are around the second piece. Hopefully find hints to the next piece too like the first I discovered. This compass was made by a now dead Southern Dragon. Their kind horde knowledge and magic like others horde gold and such. They are usually briliant in these areas too and from what I understand this one was probably brighter than most. He also used an elemental system that is a bit odd. So be ready and on gaurd. I don't know what to expect entirely. I have some notes over in the corner. Some of the translations are to technical for me, but maybe Kaalia will understand a bit. I am sure you might have some questions?"

The notes she mentioned were recovered documents she had found on many different adventures related to this quest. She had found some with the bones of the dragon found south of Istan before the war. The rest were scatered or damaged pieces. A vast majority were treaties on how to work magic in a specific system. It had a few mentions of drawing power from the primal planes at times. Some massively powerful ward that was difficult to fully understand even if the notes were conplete. Still one could discover the dragon worked off of a certain magic system of five elemental reactions of water, wood, fire, earth and metal (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wu_Xing).

Malaure of course being a less patient person had understood verh little of these notes and only with help of actual researchers found the clues she had used to find the first compass piece. She waited to see what wuestions they had and sipped her drink.

Silnimare snorted at the name, "Fire Monkey Island". She was beginning to get the impression that her and Kaalia's employer might not be the most strait-laced or professional sort. Still, while that made work a little more complicated, at least it kept it interesting. She crossed her arms, walking over to the stack of research, her expression inscrutable. She could read through them with the use of her quill, but this was more up Kaalia's alley. She turned, and nodded to Kaalia, "This is your department, I'll be outside."

With that, she made her way out of the quarters, letting the smell and feel of the ocean wash over her. She had always enjoyed the water, but ever since meeting Rachiel, she felt more centered, and at peace, while on the water. She walked to the front of the craft, and sat down, feeling the salty breeze rustle her fiery red hair. She calmed her mind, and pondered everything that she had been told.

Kaalia approached the documents as Sil took her leave. Malaure made the expedition sound appealing to say the least, but she hadn't been out in the field in months.

"These look like spells, possibly for sealing and divination." She shift some papers around, "Malaure do you happen to have any trinkets or artifacts related to this, other than the compass?"

As she searches the papers she noticed a picture: the compass with five runes around it, each with foreign writing next to it.

"I think these are instructions for forging the elements into the completed compass, but the script that is around this diagram is different from the rest of your documents."

The diagram stumped her, so she went back to the writing she had an easier chance of deciphering for her employer.

Malaure heard the snort from Silnimare, but ignored it for now. Still what else did you call an unamaed islade cilld with fire elemental apes and monkeys....she thought it was a practical name really. Told you what you were getting into. Then again maybe she thought it was a random name.

She had to sigh when Kaalia asked for more. "Nope sorry the dragon died like two hundred years ago in a jungle. Plus I do have a bit of competition that may have taken some of the remaining documents from the grave site. One reason I did not talk to many details until we had left port. I do know the compass will lead to an island and serves as one of two keys to get in. Though maybe you will find clues along the way. Or you can hust take a bit of time and research it.

I have the other key. You can meet him if you want. Though we may need tocstep outside. He probably can't help with the arcane stuff though. He was built with the peronality of a warrior. Though be respectful as he is sort of the ship. If nothing else I should introduce you and Silnimare to him."

She went outside and called Silnimare over to the front of the ship where the figure head was, "Hey Silnimare I want to introduce you to the ship. He has been a good friend of mine.

Litricaex Auridriik wake up will you."
Uppon the name being called the figure head turned into a living neck and face of a gold dragon. It turned around.

"Ah good morning milady Malaure daughter of Ka How may I serve you."

"Just introducing you to two ladies that will be helping us find your old home. This is Kaalia and this is Silnimare. This is Litricaex Auridriik who was, also made by the same dragon who built the compass. He can sort of merge with a ship, so we are sort of his passengers."

"It is a pleasure to meet you both Miladies. I hope that I can be a good protector on your journey."

Silnimare was slightly surprised by the dragon that seemed to be the ship. She had heard of such things in the past, but had never seen one in person. She stood up, and then she bowed slightly, a pendant around her neck glowed subtly, and she spoke in the tongue of dragons, "It is a pleasure to meet you as well. Thank you for bearing us on this journey. I am sure that you shall prove more than capable in protecting us." Silnimare then walked towards where the figurehead was attached, knelt, and resumed her meditations until she was needed. She didn't often need the universal translator, as most spoke common, but it was still useful to have, especially in situations where little was known.

Kaalia was shocked to hear the ship speak, as it was her first encounter with such a vessel. "Greeting to you, too. I'm sure we have nothing to worry about with you here." She gives the figurehead a respectful bow and makes her way back inside to continue her work. The text was proving somewhat difficult without a means to translate the other half.

If the texts were properly deciphered, each piece of the compass was to be found within the element it corresponds too. Since the first piece was in a whirlpool, maybe the next one would be in an area of fire, like a volcano.

The figure head went back to sleep a few minutes latter after saying it's good byes. "Ah I shall rest myself until needed then. It was nice meeting you both."

Malaure then went off to do various things around the ship. She also helped out in the kitchen during meals. Cooking was a hobby for her and she kept her ship well stalked, so she could make tasty meals that were above average for sea faring food.

A few days of travel would pass without much going on. Malaure would talk to both Silnimare and Kaalia at least a couple times a day. She was a fairly social person, so she liked getting to know people, but she respected people who wanted to just be left alone too.

It seemed Kaalia was making some progress her guess on the next location proved correct as one could see the volcano on the center of the island they were approaching. Malaure knew about this, but she was so used to going to dangerous places she just forgot to tell them about the active volcano on the island they were going towards. It was probably connected to the plane of fire or something and could explain those damn apes. As they approached Malaure passed a spy glass to Sil who could then pass it to Kaalia. "Take a good look along the shore of that cove. You will see some of the residents. We will have to deal with them once on the island and they are a handful. Especially when they start tossing fire at you."

Through the glass one could see a bunch of small monkeys running around the shore with spears apparently trying to fish along the shore. There were also a few larger apes that looked physically strong and had a brighter look to them. Only three of them and three groups of smaller monkeys. The thing was each monkey was literally on fire and many often ran away from more powerful waves. Malaure waited to see her companions thoughts before getting ready to leave the ship which was pulling towards a slightly different beach away from the group of fishing fire monkeys.

Silnimare kept to herself for the next few days. She was never rude, but she didn't really engage in small talk. It all seemed kind of pointless, especially with her being on the job. She occasionally stopped by to see how Kaalia was doing, but she spent most of her time staring over the waters blankly, unmoving, sleepless, and without breath or food.

When they finally approached, her employer handed her a spy glass to pass along to Kaalia. Despite this, Silnimare couldn't help herself, and held the eyeglass up to her blindfold, muttering along as she described the plan in her poshest voice, with her painter's pipe, puffing away.

"Mhm. Yes. I see. Definitely. Yes, that looks to be a handful, alright."

Throughout all of this she managed to keep a straight face, except the slight twitch of the corner of her dead lips into a smirk.

Kaalia spent the rest of the incoming travel devising battle plans against whatever fire-aspected defenses they may face. She was occasionally checked on by her employer and Sil, which didn't bother her too much. She figured Malaure wanted to learn more about the people hired to assist her, and she obliged any conversation that came her way.

She stepped out to the deck and stood with her companions, and heard Sil and her usual sarcasm about her blindness. She rolled her eyes and she was handed the spyglass. She heard Maluare's assessment and took a look for herself. "If the monkeys happen to be elementals, which might be likely due to them appearing to be made of fire, then there is also a chance a rift to the fire plane is on this island, too. If that's the case then they will be stronger as we close in on it."

Kaalia spots the volcano and it almost affirms her prediction of a planar rift, and the possible location of their target. They had their work cut out for them, and Kaalia was unsure if she had the capacity to summon enough water entities to content with a full-scale elemental force.
