Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Prerequisites Checklist:

  • Who am I? Silnimare
  • Is this character active, at least a few weeks old and unlikely to be removed in the near future? Yes
  • Do I have at least 150 gold sitting on this character's account? Once my GRP's are processed, about 160g+

Why should you accept this custom PrC concept?
This is a PrC designed to expand, and allow characters with a particular disadvantage a flavorful, non-overpowered means of balancing it, specifically, blindness.

The Blind Ones
Custom PrC: Silnimare

The Blind Ones learn to overcome their limititations, self-imposed or otherwise, to tune their body and mind to be more than a broken vessel. The abilities of this PrC are considered non-magical in nature. Traditionally, they are known for their elaborate blindfolds (especially those who willingly handicap themselves), although many eschew them and show their blindness with pride.

Prerequisites

  • Your vision must be invalid to use the effects of this PrC. If the character is not blind (self-inflicted or otherwise), all effects of this PrC are not usable, and any current effects end immediately. This does not include such abilities as echolocation, elemental sense from Primal Fist PrC, or Wizard Eye Graft. However, infrared, darkvision, and the like, do prohibit this PrC's use.
  • Feats: Blind Fight
  • Skills: Concentration: Adept

<This is where your pricing table will go.>

Level One

  • Nature's Drive: The other senses of the Blind Ones are heightened even further, including smell, touch, and hearing, in order to allow them to more completely. This enables them to compensate somewhat for their lack of vision, and further aids their effectiveness in combat.

Level Two

  • Gambit: The Blind One is able to further focus his senses by voluntarily shutting off others. For each of the other senses voluntarily shut down, the remaining senses grow significantly. However, this can leave the Blind One vulnerable if a threat does not trigger one of the remaining senses.

Level Three

  • Hair of the Spider: The Blind One develops a sixth sense for danger. Once every 3 posts, or 5 minutes, the user is able to listen to his gut feeling, enabling him to respond to a surprise attack, or one that comes from outside his range of detection, as if he could see it. In addition, the abilities of Nature's Drive are heightened further.

Level Four

  • Honest Hearts: Through subtle cues, such as heartbeat, breathing, and the like, the Blind One is almost supernaturally able to detect deceit and lies. This ability can be fooled, however, to do so is very difficult, and the higher the concentration of the Blind One, the more difficult fooling them is.
  • Know Thyself: By coming to understand their own body and mind, the Blind One is able to resist abilities that would hamper or block their other senses, and become extremely resistant to mind magic, especially illusions. This is particularly true when the Blind One's concentration is higher than the spellcaster's Arcana skill.

Level Five

  • Lead into a Ditch: The Blind One reveals his eyes, and for 3 posts, all enemies within line of sight, or 50 feet (whichever is shorter), share the Blind One's plight. Allies receive the benefits of level 1 of this PrC, enemies have no such fortune. This ability can only be used once per combat.
  • The Veil is Lifted: For 5 posts, or 1 hour, whichever is shorter, the Blind One is able to perceive his environment in perfect detail out to 100 feet, penetrating solid objects, shadow, and cover/concealment. Magical concealment can be tricky, particularly if the user's Arcana is higher than the Blind One's Concentration. In addition, the ability of Nature's Drive is heightened once more, giving them borderline supernatural use of their other senses, even without this ability's use.

Level 1: This ability is fine, but you can also add in the enhancements gain as this PrC levels up into the original description, rather than adding it to abilities later on. It is advised to use descriptors such as slight, moderate, and major when describing enhancements. For instance, at level 1 it grants a slight increase to sensory perception of taste, touch, and aural, at level three it grants moderate, and level 5 it grants major. It would technically be too powerful for a level one ability, but given its nature I could see it, though 'supernatural senses' at level 5 is a bit much for a level 1 ability.

Level 2: Same as the last, using slight/moderate/major modifiers. Also, there is an interesting conflict at level , using this ability with senses already radically enhanced. I do not know what to think about it, or how it could be played. I will think on this more as the review process goes.

Level 3: This is hideously over powered. As a latent effect, it is not acceptable; it is open to abuse to auto-dodge attacks. As an activated ability with a use limiter/cool down time it would probably be fine. There are probably other tweaks that could be made to it that would allow it to keep a latent status, but they would be a severe reduction to its current form.

Level 4: Honest Hearts: Honestly, this ability should probably be moved to a lower level. I would also either drop the concentration skill addition - it would automatically be assumed you would have master concentration, making this verbage worthless. To make it more practical, perhaps a check versus an opponents/targets diplomacy skill would be better, as their ability to be silver tongued would play more of a role in deceiving you than your inability to/ability to concentrate would :D Also, latent effect so.

Know Thyself: This is too strong for a latent ability. You need to also use the slight/moderate/major wording when discussing resistance. Extremely would translate, in my mind, to a major resistance to mind magic. A major resistance to affect that would remove your other sensory functions I can understand, but maybe cut backj on the mind magic resistance? Especially if this stays latent. If its an activated ability, it can be stronger because of use limitations.

Level 5: Lead Into a Ditch: This ability is fine as written.

The Veil Is Lifted: Is this a counter to Shadowdancer abilities as well?

I understand that there is a lot of latent abiities. This is more the purpose of the PrC. It is not intended to make the user a force of nature or powerful fighter, merely to allow a blind character a better means of compensating than just the blind-fight feat, or grafts that may not fit the character. I try to keep the abilities only slightly above normal character's levels for the most part, it's built around the idea that when blinded, the body can be trained to compensate. Hope that makes sense.

Changes are underlined.

Honest Hearts: would prefer a qualifier of "equal or greater skill in diplomacy to the blind one rather than high skill. Makes it more useful to you than being useless if your opponent has a high level of diplomacy even if you are maxed. Want to make sure that deception is still possible, too, if greatly reduced likelihood of getting away withit.

Know Thyself: would prefer just the straight up resistance to sensory illusions, but I see no real issue with this ability. Just seems that emotion altering spells wouldn't fit quite within the niche, whereas sensory altering spells would.

Other than that, I have no further issues.

I see nothing wrong with this now.

I would like one more staff opinion, and then I will price this.

Looks good. Needs prices. Need to remove the underlining where changes were made. Once it has prices, it's good to release at any time without further approval necessary.

If Aey isn't going to price it, keep reminding me every day until I do it.
