Hong didn't frequent Balefire. Truth be told, the constant shadows made the city both a poor place to conduct any research. But even in her leisure time, Hong didn't find herself very fond of not being able to lie under the stars at night and make up new stories about the constellations and the characters the represented. But Hong's son, Vander, had been taken an extended vacation here, and while she had the time off, she wanted to meet up with him and try to reconcile. But today was the third day of her trying to get Vander to see her, and Hong knew it would take many more days of trying before she'd get a chance to have a discussion with her son that didn't take place through the thick wooden doors of the inn above the tavern she was now leaving. As Hong bounced down the couple of steps that led to the entrance to the tavern, she glanced up to the skies to find comfort in the stars. She brought a hand up to pinch the bridge of her nose as she closed her eyes and shook her head, reminded almost instantly after looking up that there were no stars for her to see here. All there was was the inky blackness of the mystical darkness that unendingly pervaded every inch of the city. With no luck with Vander for the night, and no plans for the rest of the evening, Hong wasn't quite sure what to do with herself. She glanced around the still-busy street and picked a direction to go at random, heading west toward the would-be-setting sun. Maybe a few hours of wandering the city streets would help her take her mind off things. |

After many days of traveling on the coach box of his carriage Zahrim couldn't possibly be more pleased to see Citylights. Or at least fireplaces from afar, Glowing windows of orange and red, promising a warm place to stay. Not that he would need it warm, but he prefered warmth over the cold winds of traveling around. To be honest, his Coach Box was not luxury at all. No pillows to provide comfortable traveling. Just the inside of his Home was nice and comfortable. After living in this nutshell though the wish of owning more grew continuous. Two fully brown cart horses drew him across the incredibly dark Land towards a giant weeping Willow. It was just a short walk away from the first city-torch that pierced the darkness, nearly calling out for him to finally come closer. After Zahrim settled in, provided his animals with water and food and made sure his cart was as safe as possible he left it behind the enormous Tree. He met the vicious nature out her early and learned, how to get them to stay away from his belongings. Everything wild out here seemed to hate a specific smell of one of his fluid creations. Sadly the requirements to brew more of these natural fluid anti-monster-potion were nearly unable to repeat. He just had a tiny bottle left, and learned by accident, that this sharp smell is very helpful against most of the wilderness. He used every last drop on the bottom of his cart, a bit on the ribbon holding his own hair and the bellys of his Mares. Of course he thought of going back, gathering all the ingredients he would need. The conditions of the potion though were not worth the risk of being ripped into shreds. The thought of selling it though stayed in his head for a few days, but vanished at the enorm costs. In case he just had been really lucky for the ingredients the first time, and he strongly doubted of this thing to happen twice in a lifespan of a Vampire. With nothing more but a dagger and some bags filled with a bit of money and some bottles he left for the city. He would never admit but finally being able to see People again rose a strong happiness deep down inside. After he passed the first flames of the cities protection borders he felt at ease for the first time in weeks, if not month. Sure, he has a decent protection to THIS kind of nature, but to nearly chase his horses to death after being attacked by something from behind was not the least bit healthy for the poor mares. He liked the city. It was dark, and yet comfortably bright. Not lots of lost souls roamed the streets he was walking down, but the architecture sure was something special. As he watched some strangers passing by he finally stood up to a woman and approached her as polite as he was able to. Before he thought about his greeting the words just dropped out of his mouth. „Good... day my Lady. At least i guess it is daytime.. “ A very irritated look to the heaven didnt give him a better idea how to safe his clumsy greeting before he cought up and closed the gap in between his words. It is not like he could say what was day and night in this hostile darkness. He just had been around in this gloom for too long to remember when the sun should be rising or setting. „I could use a little bit of help if u dont mind.“ He just went on with his question and before she could answer he asked: „I really need some supplies to go around, could you point me in the direction of the marketplace?“ His Robes had seen better days, and his carriage had been damaged at it's back. He could use new bags and ingredients and.. Well, let's say it really was time to spend a bit of money. |

Hong eyed the man as he approached, his robes showing signs of a long journey now behind him. As he spoke, Hong couldn't help but mirror his irritation as he looked to the heavens. "I don't quite know the time, either. This damnable darkness throws off my internal clock something fierce. But No, I don't mind at all! The best marketplace I know of in the city is about three blocks west of here, then turn right and head north another 6 blocks before turning back west a couple of buildings. It's the large green one with a sign that... You know, why don't I just walk with you there? I've got nothing else going on at the moment, and my legs could use a good stretch." In truth, it was less about needing to stretch her legs and more about Hong just not wanting to get inside her own head at the moment. Vander was still upset with her for not having told him about Ella, Hong's daughter and Vander's sister. He was also angry with Hong for not having found Ella until Ella had actually found Hong. "So what is it that brings you to Balefire? Anything in particular? I'm here meeting my son. My name's Hong, by the way. Hong Baokuai. I'm a professor at the Academy of Magic. A pleasure to make your acquaintance!" Hong offered the man a hand to shake, her face lighting up with a warm smile as she started spouting her formalities. It really was a load off her mind to be able to focus on the trivialities of first meeting someone. |

An uneasy feeling how used his robes looked overwhelmed him for a second, while he came closer to the woman. He picked her for two reasons: She looked nice, and not like someone that would just ignore his questions. Secondly because she was a woman, and women most of the times had no trouble in helping out someone in need. He had met some men, that didn't want to do so, be it because of a wrong understanding of proud or just plain laziness. Hong broke the ice immediately when she confessed, that she also had no idea what time it was, and that her internal clock had been gone overboard as well. A narrow smile appeared on his lips as she spoke. An honest sign of relief, that he might had picked the right person for his question. Maybe it was a troubled look on his face or the confusion in his eyes when she tried to explain where he had to go, but something must have told her, that he was not able to keep all the information she just tossed at him. He needed a minute before he was able to hide his confused look and smile at her again as charming as he was able to. "What a kind offer.", he said bevor giving her a slow nod. "I would be glad to have you around to show me the way. In fact I have never been here. The city is beautiful, but the buildings seem so crowded, that I might have trouble in even finding the exit." Well, he would not. But sometimes he just liked to let his charm flow forward a bit in order to make people feel more important. He certanly was able to play some people that way. "Oh." He said vor a second, absolutely stunned by her words. 'Professor at the Adademy of Magic'. His entrails felt like sinking for a moment, before he reached for her hand to press it gently. "Wow. I am seriously impressed." The words left his mouth with his voice sounding like he was talking to a god. He pulled himself back together before he shook her hand, and let it go. "Very pleased to meet you, I am Zahrim D'mirage." He told her his full name. A rare thing for him to do. Normally he introduced with Zahrim -or- Mirage. This time he had something in his mind. -She could be the key in order to rise from the little Alchemist life he lived-. "Yes, I sell healing potions and nice odors for relaxation." That he also was able to create poisons and Potions that could paralyze someone for a couple of minutes.. well, that was something he kept to himself. "I just ran out of nearly everything I need for my work.. And as you can see.. I could use needle and thread to fix.. This." His fingers ran over his Robe where the most damage had been made. It was right at the left shoulder. He kept it a secret at the moment, that he would love to join the Academy. |

The look of bewilderment when Hong was explaining the directions to the man - Zahrim, he called himself - was one of the reasons Hong was so eager to offer company on the walk to the district. The other still being an avoidance of thinking about Vander any more than she had to. She listened as the man explained himself to be an alchemist and and a supplier of aromatherapy oils and ointments and nodded in interest. "I could think of a few different reasons to buy some of your relaxation scents, to be honest. I've got a lot on my mind, and the supplier in Striberg, where I make my home, has wares that are less than optimal, if I'm being curt." Hong led the both of them down the route she had previously started laying out for them. They passed by countless buildings, each of which had a different story for each level that they stacked up toward the sky. "Striberg may be home to the Academy of Magic, but for less magical things like aromatherapy, those at the Academy are less than willing to partake in for fear of neglecting their studies, and the mundane merchants in the area are so eager to fill slots in the economy's demand that their products aren't exactly worth shelling out the coin they ask." By the time had ended her long-winded tirade on the state of affairs of products in Striberg, they had arrived at the building Hong had been directing Zahrim to. She led him up a couple flights of stairs before throwing open the door of the stairwell to reveal the 7th floor. It was wide open, with no walls but the four outter walls of the building. It was clear that the 7th story took up more than one level, towering up to ceilings easily 6 meters above. Sprawled throughout the level were support columns, but aside from those, the only structure to the level were the aisles that merchants made with their displays. It was an excellent marketplace, rivaling most others you would find in any of the more sunlit cities - and because of the odd time people kept here, it was always bustling. "Welcome to my favorite Balefire marketplace. The locals call it "7th Heaven". I quite like the name, myself. It's such an obvious play on words for its location, and I do love a good joke with that dash of dad-humour." Edited by Hong Bao Kuai, Mon Apr 3, 2017 6:11 pm.
