Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

With the recent occupation of select Norwood territory between Balefire and Striberg and the destruction of the Wine River Transport Company, the issue of the Balefire-Striberg scorchway remains nebulous. The Marquise of Balefire, Tatiana Karstoff, has issued an open offer to any and all scorchline-producing businesses: become the first to connect a scorchway between Striberg and Balefire, and receive extensive government benefits. The race is on once again.

New towns and villages are cropping up as the new scorchlines are built through the Gloomwood backswamps and the northeastern edge of the Great Norwood Forest. Land previously considered remote or unlivable is now being settled. To sustain the increasing population in rural Balefire, more businesses that raise livestock are forming.

In select parts of western Gloomwood, aggressive deforestation, dam-building, and draining procedures are permanently changing the landscape. Monster hunters are issued bounties for slaughtering large numbers of dangerous Gloomwood wildlife. The Balefire Dispatch, the primary law enforcement entity of the backswamps, is stretched thin even as it slowly grows in number, opening up opportunities for petty and organized crime alike. Unaffiliated bounty hunters have stepped in where the Dispatch is weakest. Rewards to bring in zakona, outlaws who can be killed or captured by anyone at any time, have created a sense of "wild justice" in the backswamps as people take the law into their own hands.

As an undercurrent to all these visible issues is what is nicknamed the "wilderness wars:" the aggressive competition between scorchline companies to build their Striberg line through the Balefire-Norwood wilderness first. These powerful companies are factions in their own right, and they'll resort to all kinds of dirty tricks to gain the upper hand against their enemies. The leaders of the scorchline companies, using the tradition of adopting noble titles, are called barons, though their critics believe them to be nothing more than glorified warlords.
