| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

The citystate of Balefire is currently experiencing a sudden, violent transformation. Also known as the Great Crackdown, the Taming of Balefire is a large-scale law enforcement blowback sweeping the City of Lanterns. Mass arrests are rolling out in waves. Jails and dungeons are so packed that hordes of prisoners are being shipped out to more remote prisons and penal colonies. The Taming of Balefire was a joint effort between Chief Sheriff Roman Hatiri and Marquise Tatiana Karstoff. While the latter pushed the plan forward, the former was responsible for most of the logistics. This dynamic duo brought in help from their national allies, Cascadia and Striberg, to provide manpower and tactical expertise. Cascadian Red Vultures and Striberger operatives nicknamed Skjoldir's Scars stand alongside a handful of Cascadian private military companies to impose order through the forceful repression of Balefire's out-of-control criminal world. For hundreds of years, Balefire has been a loose and chaotic form of society called an "adhocracy" -- a culture in which everyone works for their own best interests. This type of society not just encourages but also facilitates criminal activity. The stagnant, poorly defined laws of the country have not aided these matters. Besides pacifying the renegade population, Karstoff and Hatiri are also moving to overtake the House of Lords. Not only has Karstoff placed the House of Lords under lockdown, but Karstoff continues to persist in the drafting of a constitution for the country. This constitution many suspect will limit the powers of the Lords to do as they please. To more efficiently facilitate the huge number of executions resulting from the Great Crackdown, the punitive sector has switched from traditional chopping blocks to hangings as their primary method. Gallows are now located in many neighborhoods in Balefire, some private and some public, and they allow for executions of multiple people at once with less manpower involved. Execution by guillotine, while considered swifter and more humane than hanging, is not widespread at present due to overstressed funding. It is more often relegated to executions of wealthier folk such as convicted Lords of Balefire. |
