Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Prerequisites Checklist:

  • Who am I? Maranae
  • Is this character active, at least a few weeks old and unlikely to be removed in the near future? New. This will not be submitted for a bit.
  • Do I have at least 150 gold sitting on this character's account? Will.

Why should you accept this custom PrC concept?
There is currently nothing in the shops that grants anything even remotely similar to the abilities in this PrC. As a concept, no one else has done this that I know of. This grants Mara her uniqueness as a hand-crafted weapon, what sets her apart from absolutely every other entity on Imythess to date.

Divided Soul
Custom PrC for Maranae.

You have bound the souls of many creatures to your very being and, at will, may revert to these forms. Where as many shapeshifters and were-creatures simply change shape, you are not a mere were-creature. You are many from one, bound by mind, heart, and soul.

Divided Soul abilities are non-magical in nature.

Prerequisites

  • May not own any levels in any True Were PrC.
  • Must own at least one Animal Companion.
  • Must own Share Spell spell.

<This is where your pricing table will go.>

Level One

  • Veer: You shift into your bestial forms; these entities may not be larger than Large size class, and you must own the actual animal and they must all be the same. You may not Veer into humanoid entities. One of these entities will house the majority of your consciousness and is the only entity capable of using spells an abilities. At level one, all of your entities have a skill cap of Apprentice on all skills. This skill cap increases by one per level, permitting Master skills at level five. Due to the bestial nature of your entities, the only relevant combat skill is Unarmed Combat.

Any latent buffs, tattoos, and grafts present on your person will be present on all of your divided entities. Any negative effects active when Veer is activated will be present on all of your entities. Any abilities or buffs that are applied but not latent will wear off upon Veering.

Injuries sustained by individual entities do not affect all entities, but disabling or killing entities will cause a one skill level drop for each entitity slain in all skills for all surviving entities. Entities slain in combat cannot be resummoned until a new topic, unless a slain entity is Ressurected.

This ability may be used twice per battle, and freely out of combat. Veer is used the first time to shift into your bestial forms, and the second time to revert to your singular self.

Level Two

  • Ward of the Many: Due to the fact that your consciousness is spread out amongst many creatures instead of one, it is much more difficult to use mind affecting spells and abilities against you while you are veered. You gain an increasing resistance to mind affecting spells and abilities, including those that cause morale penalties or fear effects. This resistance increases each level, becoming a major resistance at level five.

Level Three

  • Soulsurge: Twice per battle, you may permit a different entity other than the primary one to use a spell or ability. Your primary entity may still function as normal, permitting you to use two spells or abilities at once. Spells cast in this way suffer a minor penalty in damage. At level five, you may use this ability three times per combat. This ability may be used freely outside of combat.

  • Bestial Calling: Up to twice per battle, you may have an entity teleport directly to the location of another entity. This ability is instantaneous and requires nothing more than willpower to achieve. Any entity teleported in this way will suffer a one level penalty in all skills, and a minor penalty to speed and strength during the round it was teleported. At level five, this penalty is negated. This ability may be used freely outside of combat.

Level Four

  • Unifying Pulse: Twice per battle, any buff granted by an activated ability or spell may be applied to all entities, regardless of distance from caster or the ability user. This ability may not be used to transfer the affect of apex abilities such as Takedown or the like to all entities.

Maul: Once per combat, you may decrease all of your entities barring the primary skills by one, and inflict a minor penalty to strength and speed. After doing so, for one round, your primary entity will gain a non-magical strength enhancement and speed enhancement, and deliver slightly more damage on any kind of attack, magical or non. The debuff to the other entities lasts for two rounds.

Level Five

  • Apex Predator: You tap into the primal core of your power. For the next two rounds, all of your surviving entities function as though you have not lost any of your entities. Additionally, all of your entities may use spells or abilities, provided that their use does not exceed the maximum uses or your available mana. It is possible for all entities to use spells or abilities at the same time while Apex Predator is active. This ability is extremely taxing, and once concluded will force you to Veer back into your singular entity. It may become difficult, but not impossible, to continue fighting following the conclusion of Apex Predator.

Looks interesting, but I think you should limit the first abilities scallig to expert at most. Master level skill is scary and being used by multiple creatures is too much even with the possible penalties.

Veer: "They must all be the same" means that you can only become a bunch of a single type of animal, right? Are you expecting the purchaser to buy five of that type of animal or just the one and take multiplying it as part of the ability?
On a similar note, do you have to buy all of the skills for all of the creatures separately? Since you don't usually buy skills for animals, I think it's worth putting a blurb about how it works and where you should put them in your inventory.
The size limit for veer is pretty big. Fighting five PC-controlled grizzly bears seems pretty intense for a first level ability. Medium would be better since that's the category that most pack animals fall into.

Ward of the Many: Is this only intended to be usable while Veered into lots of animals, or anytime? This effect is also covered in a lot of other PrCs, items, and abilities, so it might be worth finding something more specific to Divided Soul.

Level Three and Four's abilities look fine to me.

Apex Predator: Allowing any creature to use spells is fine; allowing them all to use spells at once is a lot. I don't mind two at once, or even three since this is a 5th level ability, but a max of five seems like too much.

I intended for Veer creatures to all have to be purchased; if you want 5 you need to buy five. As for size....I could maybe drop that to medium large? Remember that at level one, all skills will be capped at Apprentice. Any PC thats is beyond fledgling status could deal with them. If not easily, then certainly still able to handle it. As for skills - you are those five creatures, so your skills would apply. The purchased creatures are simply a prerequisite to have multiple forms.

Ward of the Many....valid point. It does explicitly state that it is while veered, though. Regardless, I can come up with a different ability since this one is shared by many PrCs as you mentioned.

Apex predator....I will wait for further review. This is limited by uses available for abilities, by mana, and by fatigue, and further limited by the fact that only your primary entity may use spells and abilities at full skill level; everyone else is limited to Journeyman.

I will repost an updated version with changes shortly, or tomorrow, or something :D

Veer is currently too strong. The total firepower is many times that of Summoner given the ready availability of Journeyman level skills. Maintaining certain abilities (grafts, tattoos) means these creatures can have insanely potent defenses/offenses before considering Apex Predator.

Bestial Calling's penalty isn't a penalty if it goes away at level 5, which is the level you'll have this CPRC at.

Unifying Pulse pretty trivially hands out bull's strength/haste, mitigating the penalties of Maul.

This CPrC has powerful abilities but most of the balancing penalties can be mitigated or avoided.

As is usually the case with my cPrC reviews, I will only be looking at the most recent version and no other Staff comments. This is to provide an unbiased opinion; apologies if I am redundant.

  • Veer: For the foundation ability of this cPrC, I'm a bit confused. This makes you shapeshift into... a pack of animals? One of which is strongest, but basically a hive mind deal? I dunno. Four animals with journeyman Unarmed (plus on with Master) is pretty strong at max. Plus since it's your choice if an entity ever dies, I don't see the debuffs being a real weakness.
  • Ward of the Many: What about abilities directly aimed at large areas or crowds? We have some like that. Maybe fine regardless.
  • Soulsurge: I'd prefer a once/twice usage limit instead of twice/thrice. Three simul-casts is pretty powerful, especially considering they can come from different angles and such.
  • Bestial Calling: Looks fine.
  • Unifying Pulse: So, you can give all your entities draconic strength and blur for the rest of the fight? Ahahahaha... Let's say the buffs have a defined duration. Even with that nerf, I don't think you can have Apex buffs just because of how OP they are, even for a short time.
  • Maul: Looks fine.
  • Apex Predator: Five spells or abilities at once. This has some severe balance concerns. There are plenty of options to momentarily stun or freeze and opponent in place, and then you still have 4 more ways to hurt them. It basically seems to remove any option someone has to respond. I dunno about this.

The concept is alright here, but I have some balance concerns... I'm not sure how to alleviate them to be completely honest. Hopefully someone else can chime in or you have ideas of your own.

    • Reducing your overall fatigue by a moderate amount.
    • Restoring a moderate amount of mana.

Only the primary entity may receive this gift, and the entity that is sacrificed may not be resurrected by any means until the end of the topic. This ability may not be used if you have less than four entities, counting the primary, still standing.

Level Five

  • Apex Predator: You tap into the primal core of your power. All of your surviving entities are teleported to your primary entities location, and fuse into one being. You Apex Predator body is one size classes larger than your normal entities are, and receives a moderate bonus in strength and speed, as well as a moderate regeneration effect. Your very presence is enough to send weak willed enemies running, and even stronger willed characters will fight less intelligently while you are near. This effect lasts two rounds. Upon completion, you will be forced to Veer back into your mundane form. This ability is moderately fatiguing, and may be used once per combat.

What happens to debuffs during Conscious Shift?

Soul-Surge needs a bit more of a downside, right now you can cast two spells per round with real penalty. There's plenty of useful spells that wouldn't be affected by "minor reduction in damage".

One for All - Does it mean transferring duration or is it straight duplication with remaining duration? Does this use uses from other PrC, such as Ability X having 2 charges, so if you cast it on the beast and yourself you'd be at 0 charges? I like this ability, it just needs to be extremely clear in function.

Otherwise, I like this.

Divided Soul abilities are non-magical in nature.

Prerequisites

  • May not own any levels in any True Were PrC.
  • Must own at least one Animal Companion.
  • Must own Share Spell spell.

<This is where your pricing table will go.>

Level One

  • Veer: You shift into your bestial forms. These entities may not be larger than Medium-Large size class, and you must own the actual animal(s) and they must all be the same. Any physical damage taken in the previous primary entity remains behind, and any damage that the new primary entity has already sustained remains. Debilitating effects remain in the flesh you leave behind, barring physical fatigue and mana fatigue. You cannot use any spells or abilities on the round that Conscious Shift is used. This ability may be used freely outside of combat, and without any penalties.

Level Three

  • Soul-surge: Three times per battle, you may permit a different entity other than the primary one to use a spell or ability, permitting you to use two spells or abilities at once. This causes strain, and deals minor psionic damage to yourself for the first use, increasing to moderate and finally major for a third. Spells and abilities used this way are treated as having been cast by the primary entity. This ability may be used only once per round, and freely outside of combat.

  • Bestial Calling: Up to twice per battle, you may have an entity teleport directly to the location of another entity. This ability is instantaneous and requires nothing more than willpower to achieve. A primary entity teleported in this way will suffer a one level penalty in all skills; otherwise it will suffer a minor penalty to speed and strength during the round it was teleported. This ability may be used freely outside of combat.

Level Four

  • One For All: Twice per battle, any enhancement gained from a spell or ability may be applied to an additional entity beyond the primary, regardless of whether or not the second recipient can be seen. Using One For All will deplete two uses of that ability or spell; abilities that cannot normally be used rapidly may be used in quick succession with One For All. Abilities with single use limiters may not be used in this way.

  • All For One: Once per combat, you may sacrifice one of your entities for one of the following:

    • A moderate boost to physical strength and speed that lasts for two posts.
    • A moderate increase to spell power that lasts for two posts.
    • Reducing your overall fatigue by a moderate amount.

Upon completion, you will be forced to Veer back into your mundane form. This ability is moderately fatiguing, and may be used once per combat.

I'm thinking fairly expensive. Any other thoughts on pricing, fellow staff members?

Pricing looks more than fair, abilities all look good. This is good to go whenever someone feels up to it.

Level One

  • Veer: You shift into your bestial forms. These entities may not be larger than Medium-Large size class, and you must own the actual animal(s) and they must all be the same. You may not Veer into humanoid entities. One of these entities will house the majority of your consciousness and is the only entity capable of using spells and abilities. As you are in a non-humanoid form, you may only use Unarmed Combat as a fighting skill. Your remaining entities are treated as having Combat Training, but do not gain any of your skill levels.

Any latent buffs, tattoos, and grafts present on your person will be present on all of your entities. Any negative effects active when Veer is activated will be present on all of your entities. Any abilities or buffs that are applied but not latent will wear off upon Veering.
This ability may be used twice per battle, and freely out of combat. Veer is used the first time to shift into your bestial forms, and the second time to revert to your singular self.

Level Two

  • Conscious Shift: Twice per combat, you may change which entity acts as the primary focus of your consciousness. When shifting from one entity to another, any activated buffs wear off immediately.
