Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

He had tracked her scent for what felt like hours. Having journeyed to Norwood for what was going to be a diplomatic visit in order to secure alliances between Kellen and the elves of this gargantuan forest, Ulfr had caught the fairly recent scent of particularly sassy elf with whom he had the pleasure of being friends. So, as a challenge to himself and her, the lycan went after her to see which would occur first; him sneaking up on her, or her becoming aware of his presence.

Of course, he had a certain advantage, in that he knew he was trailing a fellow Shadowdancer. It was an odd thing too, because he could tell when she stopped moving; her scent would entirely fade, and he'd have to pick it up again. Mistalee had a strong connection to the Shadow Plane indeed if it was affecting her scent at such a distance. The werewolf pondered over who had the stronger connection between the two of them, and decided that he did. After all, he had never seen her use any shadowy powers other than what was typical of a full fledged Shadowdancer. He, on the other hand, had replicated a sword and developed wings due his connection with the Shadow Plane.

Smugly, he continued to trail after the elusive elf.

There she was, much in the same manner as when he had first come upon her. Aiming, marking a target for a kill shot. Whoever he was, what an unlucky bastard he was. Confident as he was, even Ulfr didn't want Mistalee taking shots at him. The lycan shivered and nearly laughed at the thought, but maintained his composure for her sake, so as not to distract her. If she wasn't already aware of him.

The werewolf had made sure to keep his shadow distanced from him, enough that it ought to be outside of being detected near him. Though the sensory information he was receiving from his shadow worried him. Mistalee had tracked this person almost to the heart of this section of the forest, and the creatures that called it home were an incredible size. While he wouldn't shy away from it, Ulfr didn't desire having a go at them.

Nervously, he shifted his weight from one foot to the other. A mistake, he realized quickly as a leaf fell from the branch he was perched on, soon to be very much within the elf's visual range. Cursing mentally, the lycan was prepared to leap and chase Mistalee's target in case she didn't take the shot before noticing the leaf, because Ulfr wouldn't be able to stay quiet enough not to spook the man trying to dodge her arrow.

While she had been doing her research and tracking of her target she had come across a bit of an interesting find. A tuft of wolf fur had been caught on a branch. Most would merely shrug if off, but she knew that the fur of a werewolf was more coarse than a regular wolf. By its shade she had a good feeling she knew who was in her forest.

She decided to test her theory and dropped the enchantment on her cloak. The elf was confidant enough in her stealth capabilities that she did not need to mask her scent while tracking her target. He was after all just human, but the one she wanted to seek her out would be able to recognize her scent.

It was not long after that she picked up the trail of her target. Without making a sound or even rustling a leaf, she moved through the forest. She moved from ground to trees to cover ground quickly and silently. At one point she did sense a slight distortion in the shadows far behind her. The corner of her mouth twitched just slightly, her friend had found her.

Still she focused on the task at hand. After tracking for a few hours she knew she was getting close and finally found him. As she took aim, she could now sense Ulfr more clearly in the shadows. He was waiting silently and patiently for her to finish her job.

The werewolf shifted, a small sound was made, the man looked up, the arrow flew. The instant the arrow flew free from her bow, she simply vanished. A thump was all could be heard as the arrow struck its target and the man's body began to fall towards the ground. Before the body lay still she reappeared out of the shadows, sitting casually on a branch behind Ulfr.

She had a wide smile on her face. "Did you really think you could enter my home forest without me realizing it?" she asked playfully. "Or that you could track me without me allowing it?"

When she disappeared, Ulfr just laughed, fully expecting her to do just what she did, because he would have done the same.

"No, not really. But can you blame me? You'd be just as tempted in Kellen I'm sure. How have you been Mista?" The lycan turned to face her, draping his legs over the edge of the branch as he did so, sitting properly on his hind-quarters rather than crouching in the tree top. He recalled his shadow as there was no further need to stay apart.

"I guess I should have sent my shadow away earlier, and probably shouldn't have gone in the occasional circle. I'm sure I left a clue or two doing so. Must have." Ulfr shrugged nonchalantly before his face twisted to the wolfish grin he was known for. "Good to see you're better at what you do. Last time we met like this I got the drop on ya. Bravo little arrow, bravo!" He teased her, before laughing some more.

"So who's the unlucky bastard?" The werewolf asked after he had quit laughing too hard to talk.

With a push she slipped off her perch and landed without a sound. A single delicate hand reached into a pouch on her belt and pulled out a tuft of Ulfr's fur. "This is what gave you away my friend," she said. "Most people can't tell the difference between wolf fur and werewolf fur, but I am not most people. I was not completely certain it was you, but I still dropped the enchantment on my cloak. If it was you, I knew you would easily pick up my scent and come to say hello. If it was not you....well I would just be one more elven scent in a forest filled with elves and figured it would not really be out of place."

She smirked as he playfully teased her. "What can I say? I am a fast learner," she replied. "Though to be honest, you would have likely been able to track me far easier outside of the forest. The enchantments I use to mask my scent only work in the forest. I have been considering finding means to replicate the effect for other terrains."

The werewolf turned his attention to the dead man. Before answering she walked over to the body and began to search it. As she went about her business, she answered. There was no more light joy in her voice. The elf maiden did not enjoy killing, but did it only when she felt she must.

"A serial killer," she said. "He got dubbed as the Butcher, for reasons I am sure you can guess. It took me a little while to figure out who he was and track him down...but at least no one else will be hurt by him and his victims can now rest easy."

It seemed like she at last found what she was looking for. A cruel looking dagger that she sensed was enchanted with some foul spell. Carefully she wrapped the blade in some cloth and placed it in her pack. "Proof I completed my task," she explained.

She rose to her feet and waved for Ulfr to follow her. "Come on," she said, a small smile beginning to return to her face. "Let's get away from this place. I know a nice spot to relax."

"Oh, so you cheated then? And I've not a clue how I managed to get ahead of you... I must have come through the area right before you went in that direction, before I started following you. Unless I went in circles. Swear I didn't though." he chuckled in response as she looted her kill.

"The Butcher eh? Must have not been that great, if he only managed a lousy, run-of-the-mill name like that. Why, I'd wagered that if he had been a character in a book, he was just a filler, barely a page dedicated to him. And he was killing people? Bah, best that you put an end to 'em." he said, mocking the man as Mistalee pulled a dagger from him as proof. "I suppose that is easier to carry than his head, and less messy too."

He laughed when she suggested they leave. "Good, you should the size of the spider my shadow has been watching for the past ten minutes. I'm not keen on having to tangle with it. Lead the way, my pointy-eared friend."

While they traveled, Ulfr would ask "So, you and Tand huh?"

She lifted a brow as the werewolf claimed she cheated. "Excuse me, but how is me finding a tuft of your fur cheating? Didn't you start following me because you smelled me? How is using that canine nose of yours not cheating?" she said in a teasing voice.

Delicate shoulders shrugged as he spoke on. "They don't always choose the names. Guards are not often the most creative when naming some of these unknown criminals. But what matters is that he is dead and can't harm anyone else."

She waved for him to follow her as she walked off. "Don't worry about the spiders. They are smarter than most people give them credit for and tend to steer clear of anyone who can put up a fight, especially when they travel in groups. They much prefer dine on the dead I leave behind."

A smirk spread across her face and she gave her canine friend a sidelong look. "What about me and Tand?"
