| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Roche listened intently as they walked together, shaking his head to himself. “And my fiance is in the hands of the man who was once my partner. I was cast out after I objected. Now I lack the woman who kept me grounded and the home I spent so long defending.” He cast a sideways look at the Commander. “Join the party, sister. There's plenty of room.” He chuckled, looking up to where she'd pointed out their foes. His own mask fell away entirely. Instead of Aeyliea's fury and contempt, his lips stretched in a grim smirk, hint of teeth showing at the edge. “Good. I'm getting tired of playing nice.” He broke off to the side, flipping his knife in hand as he moved from tree to tree, changing the direction he came out of cover suddenly to throw off the marksmen. A bolt ripped by him a foot wide, the archer having made a poor snap shot. One of the five broke to the side with him, one of the men with a shield trusting his back to his brothers to face the flanking threat. Roche broke into a short sprint, hunched down with the knife in a backhanded grip. When he came close enough for first contact, he calculated the man's movements and his best option to counter a better-armed and armored opponent. He played with their center of gravity. Slipping in close, he rolled against the attempt at a shield bash and came in close, checking his hip and throwing him off balance. The pommel of his upraised sword came down on his back, but it lacked the strength to do him any real harm. Keeping one leg in front of the man's and stepping by him, Roche twisted and bent him forcibly forward, bringing the knife down and between the seam of helm and hauberk. The man rolled forward and collapsed. Roche held on to him and carried him down, using his body as cover. By the time he wrestled the man's shield free, the marksman was reloaded and taking aim at him. He lifted the shield just in time, but the thin metal over a wooden frame wasn't enough to stop the bolt punching through and neatly between the bones of his forearm. Roche howled with pain, staggering and using his free hand to keep the weight of the shield from dragging at the wound, pinned to his arm by more than the strap and handle. Ducking behind a tree, Roche Gritted his teeth and slammed the face of the shield against the bark, driving the bolt further and passing more through his arm. Nearly passing out with the pain, he gripped it by the head and jerked it free, dropping the shield. Blood pattered down on the roots under him. |

She didn't know if she wished to play her hand entirely yet, but Roche made that choice for her. He moved in to engage without a second thought, and she had to snarl and bring her weapon to bear, at the ready. She did not advance. There is something about me they do not know. Time to educate them Even as the rest of the opponents now turned to face her, the initial threat dealt with, she cut forward with her sword. The Lawbringer sang in her hands, the vibration of the True Blade coursing through her body and soul. A shockwave of pure force, so potent it was a visible distortion in the air, washed outwards in an expanding arc. The two swordsman that had been nearest Roche staggered back, blood flying from their faces as the burst caught them. They were too close to bear the full brunt of that attack; no, it was the crossbowmen who took that. Further away, the burst slashed into them. One bow shattered beneath the blow, and the armor both of them were wearing crumpled beneath the strike. Aeyliea followed behind that attack. She reached the first of the swordsman before they had recovered, and dispatched him with an expert thrust, blade entering the side of his neck between collar and helm. Blood spurted from his suddenly gaping mouth, and she was already kicking him free as the other turned to face her. His backhand cut at her she dodged, flowing gracefully out its way only to turn and face her opponent. Three quick strikes, steel on steel, and he was driven back, unable to pierce her guard. And then the crossbowman struck again, the one with the bow still intact. The quarrel struck her high in the shoulder, popping mithril chainlinks with the force. It spun her around, but at least it did not penetrate any further than enough to make her bleed. Somehow, she avoided an overhand cleave from the other swordsman, and seeing as he had neatly overextended himself with that idiotic action, she struck. Off balance, not graceful, but the length of Lawbringer slipped in under the front of his armor, skewering him through his belly and driving up to his lungs. He dropped the sword in his hand to clutch at her blade, bloodying his hands on that fell weapon before sliding off of it, already dying. To face the last two standing, a crossbowman frantically trying to reload his weapon, and the one that had held one before and was now holding a shortsword out to defend his ranged attacker. Shoulder throbbing, she grinned at the pair. Cute. And then she flowed forward, an angel of death seeking to meet out justice. |

Blood streamed down his forearm and dripped off his fingertips. The pain had lessened to a degree, becoming an uncomfortable tingling heat. Leaning against the bark, he heard the cries of their foes as Aeyliea began to dispatch them. He had a free second or two. Lifting his arm, he inspected the tear in his flesh. He could no longer tell it had gone entirely through without looking at both sides. The bone was already healed from the scratch of the passing arrowhead. As he looked, the skin knit together, leaving discoloration from the bleeding even now lessening. The wound ached fiercely, but he would not die of blood loss. Lifting the shield once more, he tested the weight and nodded, holding the bloody shaft of the bolt in his right hand. He stepped over the corpse of the man he'd killed, leaving the knife sprouting from the back of his neck. Approaching the two left alive, he blind-sided the archer, bashing his head with the shield and tackling him to the forest floor. Roche snarled, baring his teeth and wrinkling his nose as he slapped aside the man's frantic swings. Lifting the round shield, he plowed it through his defenses with a back-handed bash and gave the bolt an overhead swing, slamming it between two ribs. His cries turned to a coughing gargle as blood filled his lung. The archer's struggles didn't let up in his adrenaline-fueled last fight, clawing at Roche's face. Straddling the man, he easily kept out of reach and released the shield, instead taking it up with his hands on either side. Lifting it overhead, he brought the edge down and collapsed the man's windpipe, cutting off his cries. The mercenary lost consciousness not long after. Standing from his foe, Roche spun to face his companion and the last remaining combatant, tossing the bloodied and battered shield aside. Trusting Aeyliea to dispatch him, Roche focused on suppressing the animalistic instinct and savagery that had started to take him over since the beginning of the fight. It had been his first deadly encounter in some while and he hadn't expected this... pleasure. Lifting his forearm, rolling up the sleeves of both arms, he found the blackish discoloration and bruising beginning to fade at the edges. “Sorry, I overestimated the shield. Never been on this end of a crossbow before.” He knelt to retrieve his knife, giving it a sharp tug to free it from being pinched between helm and armor. Wiping it off on his own pant leg, the blood had already done its damage to his clothing, he sheathed it at his belt and did his best to wipe off his arms, twisting a cloth around his fingers to wipe away the majority of the blood. ooc

Brutality had never been her thing. She dispatched of the last standing armsman with little fuss, a clean and efficient kill. All conducted with a certain dispassionate demeanor that could prove unsettling to some people...only, she didn't think that Roche was one of those people. Bending over to clean her weapon on one of the fallen men's clothing, she snorted. Anything is a weapon if the mind guiding it wishes it to be so. As for crossbows... She shrugged. There wasn't much that hadn't been slung her way at least once. She had made it through all of those various struggles, and if she hadn't been entirely unscathed, she was still alive. Proof to her unyielding spirit some would say, she supposed. Her shoulder throbbed madly, but she ignored it. There won't be too many more of them. If I were to venture a guess, though, then the ones that are left will be their veterans. She straightened, and rolled her shoulders with a grimace and a chorus of popping joints. A sorceress. There will be one with them - of that I can be certain. That was what the job was all about in the first place, was dealing with someone of that nature. And it will be someone formidable. She sounded like the prospect of facing down a mage of some degree of potential was not only exciting, but satisfying. I trust you are sound enough? I am going on ahead, anyway. I still have one of my men out here alive. And that bitch is somewhere ahead. I mean to have some words with her. She grinned at the prospect, but it was a feral thing. |

Roche flexed his left hand, grimacing at the stiffness and pain. Rolling his sleeves up, wet with blood both his and that of the mercenaries, he snarled as it brushed against the injury. It was still open, but the wound had been through muscle and had avoided anything too vital, despite the puncture clear through. Tears in muscle and skin were already closing. there was significant bruising, but even as he watched the skin knit closed. “I'll be fine enough.” He watched the bruising yellow and slowly fade at the edges. Looking back to the woman, he nodded once, the anger of his raised blood still in his eyes. The compounds in his blood were reacting with the adrenaline of the fight, effects picking up slowly. He felt stronger, the pains of battle less pronounced. Discovering the extents of his newfound abilities had seemed to make injuries less of an immediate danger. The pain was real enough, but he wasn't crippled by it. The eagerness in her voice disturbed him less than it had only half an hour before. “A sorceress. Do you know what flavor of magic user she is?” He knelt down by a body and freed a shield, testing the weight on his arm. It could support the weight, but was uncomfortable. Deciding against it, he instead picked up one of the crossbows, inspecting it critically. These weapons were common enough down here. Where he'd grown up in the north they had bows, but not these. His first encounter with them had been on his travels with his family through the cities, on some of the guardsmen. He'd been curious, but never got the chance to use one but for once when he'd borrowed another ranger's to try shooting it. It was easier than using a bow, you had only to point and shoot. He grabbed a quiver of bolts and slung it over a shoulder and the shield over it. “So why the vendetta against magic users? I understand the hatred of nobility. I have seen mages who use their power to heal. I have also seen those who use it to... harm.” His own face soured at that, recalling the beast that had left him crippled and struggling for every breath. The beast whose blood and body was used to bring him back as he was now. The mage in Striberg had promised to use no magic of his own in the practice. Roche had prayed to the winds extensively while the serum was prepared, his words carried on them to the ears of the gods. His blessing had come and he had begun his crusade against the monsters of Imythess. His journey was still on its first steps, and his path ahead a frightening one, but he had faith. His spirit was up for the battle, but his body had needed help. Soon he would have to return to the north to complete the ceremonies and complete his blessing way. |
