| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Gravling growled deep in his throat, he lived deep in the woods to avoid people, but some thugs had taken it upon themselves to raid what few roads came through the area, and Gravling would have none of that. He knew a few of the merchants, they knew the hidden path to his home and often stopped by to trade, Gravling gave them furs and whatever loot he finds on the dead or what he liked to call bandits 'The Soon To Be Dead'. He kept low, his black and white fur wasn't good camouflage, but his green cloak helped a bit. He laid in wait at one of the only road they hadn't hit. He laid there in the shrubs, invisible to those that that weren't on the look out for him. The bandits may be wary, a few years ago Gravling had moved into the woods, ever since then he had made it his mission to be the only non-animal hunter in these parts. He was the apex predator in this place, it was time the bandits learned their last lesson. He heard them approach, they were scoping out the road, he didn't bother with names, he gave them nicknames instead, Moron, Deadguy, and Shredded Face, they talked about another two people farther down the road, probably to scout out the target, good, that made it easier. He kept a tight grip on his mace, which was originally just an oak club, but he had taken arrow heads and pounded them into it, making a rather nasty looking weapon. He looked to the side and saw a boot... it was time. He jumped up, swinging his club up, sending a spike through the lower jaw Moron, a quick twist freed his mace and ripped open the man's jaw. Next he grabbed his neck and began to dig into it with his claws, slowly shredding it as he turned to the other two and roared. They shouted threats and ran, they were going to have him follow him to their two scouts, fine. He gave a quick twist of his clawed hand, ripping open the throat, letting the blood flow freely onto the road. He began to run after them. Gravling's body was covered from head to toe in fur, black speckled with white along with two white stripes on his skull. He was a monster unseen by most people, only heard from afar, he let out his shriek, something only a badger or a were-badger could do. It was high and fast, with the odd long shriek, he crushed bushes and plants under foot as he charged onward, keeping the shriek going. |

The sound of Caoimhe's song was lost to the wind, the rattling of the horses' harnesses, the hoofbeats of each horse. Branches rattled and leaves rustled. The tune was an old Bruachae emigrant's song about loss, desperation, and hope to find a permanent home. Singing, quite frankly, kept the teamster awake. Her horses knew to follow the road, leaving her position on the driver's seat more or less passive. A weight pressed on her eyes, so she pulled down her flat cap to cover up more of the sunlight. Helped that it wasn't too cold here in the deep forest. Her job was simple freight. She'd just need to run her hard-topped wagon's cargo from Balefire to Taras. A friend of hers, Hunter James, recommended she take a certain, less popular road because of recent inter-alliance issues on the Shadow Road. So far, so good. Someone jumped out of the underbrush and ran across the street in front of Caoimhe, noticed her team, and stopped in the middle of the street with his arms open. That was enough to wake her up. "Whoah, boys! Whoooah!" The huge Deboni horses dug in their hooves and threw their marked heads before they would've trampled the man, who was swiftly being joined by a second. It became evident within a few seconds that she should've trampled them. They parted around the horses, weapons at the ready, and ran toward her driver's seat. "Hands in the air! We're not going to hurt you!" Caoimhe pitched a frown. Clear as day what they were going to do, and since it was an off-the-cuff plan she knew there was still a chance. The were-fox pulled her hand crossbow from under her seat, already loaded, and took a moment to aim and fire at the closest person. He yelped in pain, a bolt's fletching sticking out of his lower abdomen. Damn. Undershot a bit. Another bolt automatically slid into place when she pulled back the string, allowing her to plant another in the next bandit -- or tried to and missed. He was running in zig-zags after seeing his friend go down. She stood while he tried to climb up into her driver's seat and gave him a swift kick in the face. The second one, apparently in enough of a hurry to fight through the pain of a bolt in the gut, blindsided her and managed to flop onto the seat behind her in a messy display. Coupled with the kicked man recovering, Caoimhe had enemies on both sides of her seat trying to hijack her wagon. Bones crackled, face extended and claws burst from split fingertips as Caoimhe transformed into a grey fox monster. One of the bandits scoffed: "What's with all these animal people today?!" "What?" Just then, a badger's scream echoed through the forest -- and it was getting closer. |

Gravling eliminated another one, his foot had been caught in some tree roots, his comrade left him for dead. His screams were cut short by the wet 'thump' of the mace caving in his skull was all that was heard before his warcry echoed through out the forest again. The last man had scars all over his face, on one arm was an old rusted buckler, the other hand carried a hatchet. He had almost put his axe in his comrade's back before he had tripped, he needed him to distract or slow the badger-man for a bit longer. He finally made it to the other two and shouted, "You said the badger-man didn't come close to the roads! We were freakin' ambushed!" He looked to the side to see the fox monster and growled, "There were two monsters!? Gods be damned did you scout this place at all!?" His anger was cut short as his eyes lost focus, the badger's warcry sounded again, but this time it wasn't a ways back, but just behind him. His blood ran cold as he instinctively raised his buckler, the mace bent the shoddy piece of metal and shattered the bones in his forearm. He screamed in pain, only for the mace to descend onto his skull. The two scouts were now caught between a fox and badger monster. One shouted out, "What are you!?" Gravling ignored the question, rolling his shoulders, as if trying to work out a kink in his back, "You want to finish off the stupid looking wounded one or the stupid looking non-wounded one? I'll kill lthe other one." The woman nearby was a were-fox, Gravling could not just assume she was Bruachae, he had met non-Bruachae were folk, well he would probably be able to tell from her reaction to his form. Were-Badgers in Bruachae were considered as a plague of sorts. In the past they may have been great peacekeepers and guards, but their battle lust had made them turn on their allies at the slightest hint of them misusing their power. Gravling knew the stories, most that followed Badger turned to the ways of the berserker, he was one of the few that wished to temper his battle fury with wisdom and knowledge. He looked to the wagon and wondered aloud, "I wonder if there are any interesting books in there." |
