Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

"I, hrrrm," Shan groaned and rubbed his head, frowning as he tried to work his way through his words. "First off, yes, if I'm your normal friend, then your life is definitely weird, but..." Shan sighed. "You are a good person. That's better than normal. I know normal people who are just terrible. Weird and good is better."

"Is... uh... is it normal for so many people to spy on the new people around here?"

Shan looked where Vyse pointed. Once he looked, Harold Youngsling busied himself with apparent nut gathering, except it wasn't nut season and the tree was a crabapple.

"Yes, city boy. Yes it is." He shrugged. "I know. Let's visit Paverty, the twin's older sister. Mora's there, too, and the caverns under her house are really nice in the summer.

"And, yeah, I get scared and I run and I hide when I can, but in there, when I saw you doing what you were doing, my first thought was...I was really worried I'd have to kill you. I probably couldn't, and I'd probably die, sure, but those two are my family. I know your family history, so I know that just because someone's family doesn't mean they're good, but, well, I'd die to protect them, even if it meant fighting you full out. So I'm not really a normal person anymore, either. Or ever, since I'm a redheaded, one-eyed, half-halfling son of a witch with a magic fiddle. Not really normal."

Shan went on that Vyse was a good person, which was nice and all, but 'nice and good' was something that Vyse struggled with. Next he spoke about his courage, and Vyse smiled, "If you ever need to kill me, then you'll need to cripple my legs first."

He slowly stood up as Shan suggested they meet his other cousin, Vyse nodded, "Yeah, that'd be good, also you're still more normal than my other friends and even more normal than half the women I've dated... or even met."

Vyse followed Shan around and looked around, he saw plenty of young women alongside a few younger men. One of them was actually walking up... along with a gang.

Vyse pointed them out, "Friends of yours? Should we ignore them or are they stupid enough to pick a fight with strangers?"

"That wasn't an invitation to help me..." Shan started, then sighed. Compared to Vyse's homelife, he was amazingly normal. Shan had not only immediate but extended family, even more expanded now. His big desires in life weren't becoming the best fighter or taking over Imythess or whatever, it was getting a nice meal and learning more about being a bard. At his core, no matter what weirdness surrounded and infused him, Shan felt he was likely just a normal person who'd been handed the wrong life script.

"You'll be fine with Paverty, then," Shan said. "She's a hearth witch, which means you'll be getting something good from the oven, or at least not too burned. If you find me normal, she'll fit the bill, too. And Mora-"

"Friends of yours?" Vyse interrupted. Shan returned from his monologue to notice some of the watchers were now stepping free from the shadows, and he sighed at the sight. "Should we ignore them or are they stupid enough to pick a fight with strangers?"

"They'll just come back," Shan returned in low tones. "And they'll just want to intimidate us, not fight us. Think cats with territory issues."

"Hey, Shan," the apparent leader said. "Glad to see you slumming back into town."

"Hi, Marcus," Shan sighed. "If you want to leave, I've offered to help you out, you know that."

"Got everything I need here. Sten's Creek's still good enough for me."

"That's good, Marcus. I'm glad you're happy."

"I'm really not happy, Shan. Not really. We're a quiet place, and maybe the old biddies refuse to say anything, but you just keep bringing trouble here. That crazy chick, the monster living in Paverty's basement, those werecousins of yours, and now some crazy with a tail? I'm concerned, Shan. Very concerned. What if the next thing you bring really hurts people?"

"Not really my fault, Marcus, and they're pretty representative of what's outside Sten's. If you traveled a bit, you'd see that."

"Heh, and get killed or turned cuckoo like you? No thanks. Bad enough I have to suffer the crazy that sticks to you. But I think it might be better if, this time, you just leave town and not come back. Before something happens."

Shan sighed. Marcus, before he left home for the first time, would have intimidated him. He was larger, stronger, more popular than him among his peers and the adults. He could make Shan a literal pariah with little effort, but it all seemed such a weak threat now. He'd just faced something even more dangerous five minutes ago and hadn't backed down. He'd had things ready to kill, eat, maim, and torture him so many times, Marcus's implied threats were now lame.

"Thank you for the advice, Marcus," he said in a deadpan. "Let's go, Vyse." Shan began to step away, but Caleb, one of Marcus's group, reached out and grabbed his arm. Shan froze, reminding himself that they couldn't do anything he couldn't undo. They couldn't threaten anything worse than what's been carried through on him. They weren't anything, and there was no reason for retaliation.

Vyse listened to the hoodlums, his anger rising with every word. He slapped the arm away, "Don't touch my friend."

One of the thugs stepped forward, he actually had a shortsword on his hip, he was a head taller than Marcus and quite a bit bulkier. He grinned and looked down at Vyse, "I suggest you don't get in the way scrawny."

Vyse was fairly thin looking, his muscles were more sculpted, a body meant for battle and explosive power, he didn't have the need for the bulk. Vyse watched as the thug went to simply push him, and Vyse punched the thug's chest, sending him stumbling backwards. He drew his shortsword, he was short tempered this one. He made some generic threat and Vyse stepped forward, he grabbed the man's arm holding the sword and forced the blade to draw blood, Vyse saw the color drain from the big guy's face.

Vyse shook his head, "So you're all just toothless bullies. Out there in the real world there are warriors that can kill dragons, wizards that can rip the heavens asunder. Shan might not like confrontation, but it is something I literally live for. If you want to threaten Shan, no matter how subtle, I will respond."

He took a deep breath before letting out a massive roar, "So run cowards!" His voice had been empowered by the strength of his berserker training, the fear it caused in weaker foes sent them running. Vyse saw more than a few of them had stains marking the fronts of their trousers as they turned to run.

Vyse shrugged, his wound already healed, "Okay, didn't expect they would wet themselves, but problem solved I guess?"
