Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Sera was beginning to realise that her mother and aunt's experiences before she was born was more than a little traumatizing. Her mother never spoke about it with Sera around until now. Come to think of it, her mother never even mentioned anything about magic or any dark elves until now. She couldn't help but wonder a bit more about this Drow character that her aunt mentioned, though.

Rimmon nodded in understanding to Shirine, "I was a fairly different person in that mansion from who I actually am. My opinions that you knew of were mainly formed by that Drow. I've always loved you every bit as my sister, but the girl you knew me as.... Well, as you said, let's not talk about it. I'm usually more open than that. So, anything you want to share with me, you don't have to worry." she blushed a little bit in embarrassment and sadness when Shirine said she knew that she was involved in some things. Rimmon just hoped she'd never find out just how much she really did.

Sera piped up at the mention of getting spoiled, and as soon as she was asked if she had any questions, she immediately began her list. "When do I get to sign up for the mercenary group? Where is it? How many people work with you? What kinds of places will I get to go? Oh!" she bounced on the couch a little bit while still remaining seated. "Oh! I can bring Trixie with me, right? She's my right hand man!" Her body language and face beamed with happiness and excitement for her future adventures. She couldn't help but wonder so many things all at once. But then her questions took a more serious turn. "And how are you feline, but my mom isn't, if you're sisters? Do you have different fathers or different mothers?" she wondered, looking at both of them, but mainly Shirine, for an answer.

Shirine turned to the inquisitive youngster next to her and smiled, "Well let's see if I can survive this rapid assault of questions." Laughing a little in joke she then continued. "Well for the sign up we would have to go to the head quarters that is a about half a day to a day of travel depending on how fast we go.

As for where it is well the branch hear was made with the help of a druid so it is an elvish building grown from the trees. It is next to one of the villages around here. I suppose I might show you on a map, but that would be a rough area anyways. I am sure you will see it when we get there.

The number of people ... lets see about forty people here in Norwood and another twenty over at the Taras branch. A few more hang around Kellen.

Next wha twas the question?... ah right of course you can bring your fox. A good animal companion can be useful. Make sure you keep good care of it, though for some missions you may have to leave it behind as it may be dangerous for trixie.

As for where you will go... well pretty much all across Imy. We receive jobs from just about every part of Imythess. We generally don't go for the bigger events like wars. So do not expect too much. We are often escorts or sent to clean up some bandits. Still you will see just about every major place if you stick with the company long enough.

As for that last question ... well that is something that is in the past. I don't think I am up to go through that story with you right now. Bad memories and not the sort of story you want to tell when having fun with your recently reunited family. Maybe another time though."

Shirine avoided the story for now as she really didn't want to think about that time. It was over with... still Sera would have to be told sooner or latter. She knew Rim would put it off for as long as possible, but Shirine wondered if she should tell Sera when they were alone.... no Sera was still too young for this... or was she... Shirine had seen many younger people try to join her and sometimes it was best for the young to know the truth. Well for now she put it out of her mind. Her smile was still bright, but tainted for a bit as she thought these things. She realized how exhausting it must be for Rim to keep those days a secret, so that her daughter could grow up happy.

Sera was excited to hear all of her answers. She took in the information, not sure if she liked the last answer. She wanted to know more about their family, but her mother kept so many secrets, she was beginning to question whether they were actually family or not. Her mother was open about her brother Tannin, but as soon as she asked about anyone else in the family, she was back to square one. However, if the rest of the family just brought back bad memories, she was ok with not hearing about it for the time being.

It was all very confusing, so for now, she convinced herself that this mercenary group was the beginning to a lot of changes for the better. "Hear that, Trixie?" the coyote looked up at her, "We're going on an adventure! For real this time!" The coyote wagged her tail as Sera excitedly petted her.

She looked up at her mother and asked what they were waiting for and what was so special about it that they had to wait for it. Rimmon responded calmly, "It's a combat-trained male moose. They're bigger and stronger than horses, though not as fast."

Sera's jaw dropped in shock, as if she had been waiting for this day for years now. "Really? You're being serious?"

Rimmon raised an eyebrow, smiling a bit. "Yes, really. I am being serious. It's taking a lot longer than I expected for it to get here, though, maybe we can make that our first adventure. Find the mysterious caravan that's supposed to be bringing your mount here." she looked at Shirine, "Maybe he'll come in useful for the missions?"

Shirine had not seen a war moose before, but she knew they were a decent mount creature. They had stable at her camp, so it wouldn't be a big problem. A mount is always useful to have around. Though never really had one of my own. Mostly just borrow one as needed, but the twins, two of my better people, are quite good at it. They can even do the bareback riding styles. Though that sort of thing takes a while to learn. Still I am sure they can show Sera a bunch of tricks.

As for meeting the delivery I suppose I can try and pick up their scent or sound. I can focus my sense to be pretty strong. Do you know which direction they are supposed to be coming from in general? If they are approaching downwind of us scent won't really help."

Knowing her sister didn't have a problem with her being a were-tiger she shifted her nose a bit focusing on her sense of smell to see if she picked up an scent of a moose. Just her nose and a bit of her face shifted for a bit while she sniffed the air to see if she could sense the moose or it's delivery people.

While focusing on this an odd thought stuck in her head for some reason. Didn't Sera say she knew an uncle? "Oh hey while we are wait or searching. I heard Sera say she met an uncle Tannin? Does that mean you found another of our family? If so I can't wait to meet him. Oh and tell me about him. I still have some amnessia about the times before ... well those times."

Rimmon shook her head, "They'll be coming from the north. I was told that there's a training ground up there for young mounts. The one I purchased is still fairly young, maybe two years old. So, its antlers won't be that impressive until his later years. But there's a caravan route that they should be following, so we can just go up that way."

She thought it was pretty cool how Shirine could shift just her face. She didn't say anything about it, and gladly accepted the change in topic. "Ah, yes. He found me, actually. As it turns out, he had been tracking me for a few decades but something kept getting in his way from catching up with me. So, we finally met up a couple of years after Sera was born. He's a special one, that's for sure. But I'm not sure if he gets along with anybody other than myself and Sera. He's a demon, like myself, but somehow he took a much darker path. His true form turned into something he calls a Hellhound. I haven't seen that form yet, but I can see the darkness in his eyes. The darkness we've seen is nothing compared to what his eyes show. It's almost as if he has actually been to hell and back a few times." she paused for a moment, hesitating on her next words. "We can set up a time for you to meet him, if you really want. He's probably not the kind of family you'd expect, but he is our brother."

Sera was still dancing around, obviously excited about how this day turned out. Rimmon stood up and grabbed her bag, getting herself ready to head out for the search. Once they were all ready, she started walking and called to her jackal to follow her. She wasn't sure if her brother meeting Shirine would be a good idea. Tannin knew exactly who was part of the family, and it would be very confusing to him to be introduced to a were-tiger as his sister. Rimmon knew she would have to explain some things to him before she arranged a meeting.

Shirine noted that the wind was coming from the north luckily so she could get some information. She could smell something coming down the road. Faint right now, so probably was still a good distance off, but less than hour walk. It was hard to estimate things by scent so this was the best she could come up with.

She noticed the slight hesitation and wondered if their brother was that bad. It sounded like he had gone through even more than they had... their family really didn't have much luck. Still no matter what he was their brother and she wanted to meet him. It made her wonder about her past. She still couldn't remember much about her past and what she did was confusing at times. "Please set up a time then. I do want to meet him regardless of what sort of person he is. Hmm I can smell a group coming down maybe an hour a way at most. If we head up that way we should meet in half that time or less."

Shirine almost asked about the past. As she wanted to see if her sister could help her remember her past a bit more, but she couldn't ask it around Sera... at least not while Rim was being so protective of Sera. Perhaps after Sera had settled down to sleep for the evening. Thinking of that she wondered what else to ask. Then an idea hit her. "So Sera why don't you tell me more about you and Trixie? You have had her for a long time I sure you have some great tales about you and her having some adventures? or perhaps the time you two first met?"

Rimmon was obviously surprised that Shirine still wanted to meet him, just because he was their brother. She'd have to have a long talk with him after her daughter left with Shirine for the mercenary camp. She couldn't risk her eavesdropping on the conversation she was planning to have with Tannin. "Ok, I'll get a message out to you when I've set up a time and place. I'll try to get him out to Norwood for you."

Sera was obviously excited about uncle Tannin coming to visit again. She hoped she could be there for that day, whenever they planned to meet. When Shirine asked about her Coyote Trixie, she lit up and dashed into stories about teaching her tricks and how Trixie follows her around no matter where she goes. "I found her as a baby. It looked like she had nobody to take care of her, so I started taking care of her. Mom said that if I want a pet, I am fully responsible for it. So, she helped me figure out what it needed for survival, and I did all the work." she beamed, very proud of herself. "I think I'm all she knows. I don't know if she remembers her life before I found her because I think she was just a few days old at the time."

She looked up to Rimmon to confirm. Rimmon nodded to her, and then Sera continued telling Shirine about all the things she had to do just to make sure the cub survived its most vulnerable stage of life. It would probably remind Shirine of when she and Rimmon nursed their kittens to cathood during their time in the mansion. All in all, it was obvious that Sera felt very accomplished for saving Trixie's life, and understood her responsibility for her.

"What about some adventures that you and Mom had together? I'm sure you two have done some crazy things?!" Sera asked, starting to skip along instead of just walk. Rimmon appeared to feel very awkward about the question, and remained silent for a moment as she looked over to Shirine to see if she had a good answer.

Shirine listened and it took a while for her excitable niece to finish talking about her pet... she could smell thecarvan. It was maybr one long story away... could shextalk about her escape... she looked at Rim and then had an idea. A partial truth. Theur dealing with the matron... yes just avoid the lart of being enslaved at the time and brain washed... yeah. "Well not as many as you would think. Ws diddo normal thing most of the time like do our hair and stuff. Though there was this one time where .... wherecwe were under cover in a way. We had to trick this evil lady and help our friends while preding to be nice durring a dinner. You rember the time right sis?"

She waited to see how her sister might respond to this sort of rojnd about half true story she was weaving. They could talk for a decent time with how they had to plan the party just right to trick the well gaurded evil woman (the matron). She could also mention Rim helped crsft disguises for theor friends ( the mansion employees who were tranformed). Shjrkne was not the bedt lier ever and it was clear she did not tell the entire truth, so she tried to let Rim handle telling the story at parts when she was strugling. She let Rim decide hos the story would end. It could be simply they kikled the matron or put her to sleep or Rim could tell the truth in jkwxthey tranformed heer into something non-threatening.

Overall she sighed in relief as jjst a few minutes after finishing the story the caravn was in sight. Sera would probably be too distracred by her new mount to ask any deep questions. Well at least for now.

Rimmon smiled, remembering the grand time they had with taking the matron down. "Ah yes, that evil woman." it was clear that it still made her so happy about successfully tricking the woman, and everything they had to do in order to accomplish it. She didn't go into detail, but it was evident that there was magic involved for the disguises and other things they did with their own bodies. She filled in the story where Shirine was stuck for words, and it seemed to make Sera happy. She didn't question the lack of details, as she had already gotten the hint that their time together was fairly troubled.

She finished the story with telling her daughter about how they transformed the woman into a little harmless boy. And a few minutes later, the caravan came into sight. The moose was in the lead with his handler at his side. Rimmon waved to the caravan so that they knew the trio was no threat. Once they got closer, Rimmon explained that she was the one who purchased the moose and it was for protecting her daughter. "You'll find your earnings at the shop that you were told to deliver to." she handed him a strange little trinket for him to take to the shop as proof that the moose was handed to its purchaser. "Take this as proof. It will offer a few days of research to see how valuable it could be in the right hands." The handler nodded, gave the rope lead over to Rimmon, and waved the caravan forward. She didn't otherwise say a word about what the trinket was, nor where she got it from.

Once they were all passed and continuing down the path, Rimmon looked to her daughter. Sera could barely contain her excitement as the moose lowered its gigantic head down to greet her. "You shall be my Sammy." she spoke softly to the moose, offering her hand for him to sniff.

"You can't ride him just yet, both of you will have to train for that." she handed Sera the lead and explained the rules and that the moose -that Sammy- won't understand playtime like Trixie does. The moose stood at six feet at the shoulders, and its antlers were about four feet wide. He wasn't fully grown yet, either. He was obviously too large and slow for playtime, but at the same time, the muscles and bone structure in this animal was incredible. Rimmon had made sure that he came from a whole line of moose bred and trained for combat, but she had this one conditioned to build a companion-like friendship with its handler.

The lead rope was long enough for the moose to carry his head normally while following Sera who walked normally infront of him and off to the side a bit. It was obvious that this creature could take off without any issues at all if he wanted to, but he followed Sera without hesitation and seemingly without a care in the world. Sera would look back at the moose and stroke its strong neck from time to time, looking forward to the day that the moose agreed he was to protect Sera at all costs.

"Well, we have what we came for. Perhaps you could show us your camp while we catch up some more. Maybe we can think of more stories to tell along the way." Rimmon suggested, though she was open to any ideas.

Shirne nodded eager to show her current home to her family. "Hmm... not a bad idea. We won't make it there before the end of today, but I know several safe places along the way. As for stories ... let me think. Ah I have recovered a few memories from our past. It was back across the ocean near a castle.. the Kalack region I think. I have a feeling it was our home... sigh I hate not remebering clearly.

Still there was a forest and we played hide and seek there. It was quite fun back then. Though there was one time I tried to hide by climbing uo a tall tree only to find it was hollow. I then had the stupid idea of climbing inside. Not the greatest of plans as I got my self stuck. I do remember you couldn't find me and one of our brothers... the druiduc one... his name El... el...
She had trouble trying to think of the name. It troubled her that shs cluld not remeber the names of her familly at times. She knew some, but others were just faces or images. She sometimes wonder which had been the original her.

Once Rim provided the name she smiled and continued, "Right Eligos.. anyways he searched with you finding me after night fall. He pulled me out kn quite the embaressing way and got in so much trouble. Still I think he usually kept his distance, so that memory seems to be a strong one. A sign that uor family always loved each other no matter what they do or how foolish they are."

She went a bit silent wondering why those days had ended. She knew they were murdered... hunted down, but the exact memory of the even eluded her.

In truth the memories she was talking about were things she had gained from Rim during the mind experiments on them. Thus of course the memories were inconplete, but with her own memory loss and the wonderous imagination of the mind she had integrated some with her own past. In this case she had super imposed her self over Rim's brother Corson. Any problems with her memory could be explained away by damage from her amnesia, the experiments or simply time bluring the past a bit. Still shee did use thesse fragmented memories of Corson/herself playing with Rim to pass the time until they came to a clearing.

It was getting late and Shirine revealed a hidden area that held supplies. These were suplies she had left when she had gone out into the woods earlier and flind Sera. She soon had a fire going and brought put cooking supplies. She had some mostly cooked Venison that she had salted over the last few days. She took some out makkng some skewers that warmed the meat by the fire. That was what she had for dinner. She had a sleeping bag and spare blankets if they needed bedding. The ground was soft here anyways and it should be a warm night ... well she hoped it was. Of course they probably had a few suplies themselves for traveling with. They probably could have pushed on for another hour and made it to a Village, but Shirine was used to staying outdoors and she wanted to see how experienced Sera was at camping. Camping was an important skill in mercenary work.

"Ah, that's okay." Rimmon nodded to the idea of staying in the safe places that she knew of. "We're certainly in no rush for anything." She listened as she told Sera a few memories she had of them playing together as kids, and became incredibly confused. The more stories she told, the more confused she got. She could have sworn that she had those memories with her youngest brother, Corson. Not Shirine. She didn't say anything for now, and remained silent until they reached the first hidden area.

Rimmon was unsure about telling stories of her own, but when it came to her turn to tell them about some memory, she chose to tell them about how Tannin was a sort of guardian for her. How he had taught her a few things about their family history and magic, and how he always looked out for her. She sat in front of the fire at a safe distance where she wasn't too close but could still feel the warmth from it, and told them a story about the night her family got murdered. She told it in such a way that it sounded like any old campfire story, but it was all true.

"On a dark, summer night, in the middle of a grand forest far away from here, there once was a family of demons. Two sisters, four brothers, and a mother and father, each with their own hellhound to protect them. They thought they owned everything because nobody dared pick a fight with them as they were the strongest demonic family in the realm. However, a group of incredibly old and powerful vampires tracked them down and proved them wrong. The family was caught off-guard by this attack, but they still fought with every ounce of strength to protect what they worked so hard to build. The strongest of them all was the father, but he was the first to fall. Each one fell to their weaknesses, but there was one that they just couldn't bare the thought of killing. The youngest, sweetest little girl who hadn't tapped into her magical abilities yet, seemed so harmless at the time.

"The father cherished his daughter the most, allowing himself to fall in trade for his daughter's life. The oldest brother swore to protect his sister no matter what, but he also fell, fighting for her freedom to his last breath. The youngest brother didn't stand a chance, the poor soul, despite his mother's plea. The daughter begged and cried, 'No! Stop! This isn't right!' but the vampires continued, murdering each one right in front of her."

As night fell, Rimmon's lunar corona became more and more visible. The pale-purple flames surrounded her body, and they seemed to ripple more angrily the deeper she got into the story.

"The strangest thing is, the daughter could have sworn on her life that everyone in her family was murdered on that night. Yet, her sister and one of her brothers survived." she moved her hands and fingers up and made a ghostly 'ooooo' sound, almost making the whole thing a joke. "Are they figments of her imagination? Or were one of them behind it all?" she winked to Shirine, just showing her that she meant it as a scary campfire story for Sera.

Sera was clearly freaked out by the idea of ghosts walking around, or even worse, a traitor in the girl's family, but shrugged it off as she figured it was just a story. She had made herself comfortable on one of the spare blankets and lay on her back, looking up at the stars.

Shirine listened to the tale and kept a strait face though inside she knew what this story was. She undersrood her sister's intention. She gave a glance to her soster in understanding, but if showed that Shirine was a little dffected by the story. A slight clenching of the jaw and such. She quickly hod the signs from Sera. It seemed it was a little creepy for the young girl and shd made a note to teach the girl all the tricks she knew about vampire slaying...

Shirine settled down to sleep, but the night was not an easy one. It was filled with nightmares really her damaged mind plllaying with fragnented memories and the story Rim had told. The mind was a curious thing as it can take fragments and build a fulk tale. All memories had some inconsitancies as peolle had different views and perspectives. Thus minds often filled these holes in various ways. Shirine's was doing that right now. It miced small fragments of memories she had absorbed from Rim, along with the story and some fragments of her own forgoten past. Shee had been an orphan in her forgoten past before bdcoming a mercenary ranger. The events of being orphaned were similar to Rim's tragedy though not the same as it had been orcs rather than vampires. Still this was ennough as her mind put together a new more complete past in heer nightmare. It was of course not true, but she had no way of telling any more.

She dreamt of being assulted and thrown to sidd broken and battered half alive. The world felt suffocating. The stench if death around her and her (Rim's) family. The strugle to keep breathing... the feeling of being dragged away and then left to die. It was terrible as the dream continued. Near the end though a soft feeling of warmth and an indistinct face of an elf hivered in view smilling... a savior??

Shirine woke in a start with a yelp, "What the #$// was that... was that memories..." She noted she was covered in sweat. She felt odd after that dream a mix of fear and excitment of maybe recovering her memories. She could not remeber when she had ever felt fear like she had Iin that dream. The others were surely awakened by her startled cry and she started to calm her self. It was not easy.

Sera had fallen fast asleep and she was a heavy sleeper, so Shirine's yelp didn't wake her. She shuffled a bit away from the noise, but otherwise didn't fully wake up. It did wake Rimmon up, though. Rimmon sat up quickly at the sound of the yelp, her hand resting on one of her daggers just in case danger was near.

When she saw that it was just Shirine waking from a bad dream, she relaxed a bit. She glanced over at Sera to see that she was still asleep, and then looked back at Shirine. "Hey... what's wrong? It was just a dream, Shirine, don't worry. Sometimes our dream feel very real, but they're not." she tried to comfort her, but left it open for discussion. She held up a flask of water for her. "Have a drink. Tell me about your dream." she sat there patiently. If Shirine didn't want a drink, then she'd have a drink for herself.

Rimmon didn't remember her dreams very much anymore, which she was incredibly thankful for, but she still knew the feelings that nightmares pulled up. She thought this might happen to Shirine at some point, and was thankful she could be here for her now. If Shirine was up for talking, Rimmon moved over to sit beside her and listened.

Shirine took the drink and took a deep swig which helped her calm down. She glanced at Sera and worried a bit. Being a deep sleeper was not a good thing in her opinion. Still she spoke quite as she could not wanting to wake up Sera.

"Well I suppose it was triggered by your story. I am not sure as I haven't remembered that time before, but well most of the dream was just the death. I was dragged off dumped as if dead... I am not sure how long I stayed like that. Sort of feeling like on the edge all the time.... She went into detail for a bit just needing to say it, but she was getting calmer. "... near the end I remember seeing a light and feeling warm and next I saw an elf I think... maybe the person who saved me and brought me away from our old home... it is sort of exciting to even see a glimpse of the past really. Though I do wish it was a happier moment and it makes me wonder who I was back then. I know I wasn't originally your sister... but I really wouldn't want to be anything else these days... I like who I currently am memories or not...still this dream..."

Shrine wasn't sure what else to say. It felt a bit weird letting some of that out. There was still an hour to sun rise, so they had a bit of time until Sera might wake up. She didn't know how long the girl slept in. Perhaps they had more time.
