Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Shirine noted the worry in the girls voice and decided to say some of the truth. Though she wanted to comfort the girl too. "Well I don't know who you father is either and if your mother doesn't want to tell ... well it probably means the matter isn't simple. To put it simply the world isn't a safe place especially for women. Which is why I will make sure you are well prepared and know how to handle it all so don't worry. I have become quite the expert in survival over the years.

Umm.. anyways why don't you tell me where Rim is? Oh and perhaps tell me about where you grew up and such? Or ask me about myself if you have questions.

She tried to change the subject as she didn't want to worry the girl too much. Still the world was a nasty place and for a cute young girl like her niece... well the things that could happen were not something she wanted to think about.

Even though Shirine wouldn't see it, Sera nodded. "I guess you're right. My mother is just at a clearing by some lake. She said there's an old friend she wanted me to meet. We got there, and then she got talking with the people but couldn't find her friend and I got bored and took my chance to sneak away." she sighed, thinking about how much trouble she's going to get in when they get back.

In the corner of her eye, she saw something like a shadow moving along beside them. When she looked over, it disappeared just as quickly as it had appeared in her eye. She kept watching their surroundings as they kept moving. "I grew up in Gloomwood. The big forest in Balefire. My mom and I have a small house there that we sleep in with our pets. It's just a warm and dry place to sleep and keep our pets and things. We cook and play outside, and we often explore and she tells me things about the forest and animals there, and if I'm lucky, I'll get a story about her past. I've met my uncle a couple of times now, he's like the coolest uncle ever. Sometimes, we even go into the town to trade food for supplies and stuff."

After that, she had a couple of questions that she wanted to ask. "Yeah... so how long has it been since you and my mother last saw each other?" she wondered, curious to know why her mother never seemed to have made an effort to find Shirine. Or maybe she didn't want to be found.

She saw the shadow again, and this time noticed that it looked like her mother's jackal. "Oh NO!" she quickly jumped off of Shirine's back while they were moving, landed awkwardly, and started running in the opposite direction without a second thought as soon as she got herself back up. Her coyote jumped off of Shirine's back as well, and howled her high-pitched tune to the jackal. The jackal noticed they had jumped off of the dire tiger's back, and also turned around and trotted up to the coyote, wagging its tail and greeting her as if they knew each other. Sera was still running in the opposite direction, though, and it didn't take long for her to look back over her shoulder, and trip on one of the fallen branches.

Shirine nodded knowing approximately were her sister would have been. Probably near the lake . If she was waiting for some one near a hunter's cabin. There were a couple out there. She heard about Sera growing up in Gloomwood. Well that wasn't the most pleasant of places, but it made sense given their family in a way. She had even gone look their a few times, but the world was pretty big... sigh.

The last question was easy and she got part of an answer out before Sera bolted. "Probably around 14 years abouts. Now.... hey now don't go running off." Shirine could smell her sister on the jackal and guessed that Sera was panicking. She strengthened her legs a bit going after the girl and shifted into her hybrid form just in time to catch the girl. Shirine was strong and athletic and the girl clearly wasn't. She didn't have much worry at catching Sera, but a difficult youngster could still wiggle free a few times before exhausting themselves. She spoke to try and calm the girl down, "Easy there Sera no need to panic so much. That jackal is your mothers right? I am sure she will be just happy to find you alive and well. Now don't go running away again okay?"

If she stopped Shirine smiled and said, "There we good that is better. Plus remember Auntie Shirine here is on your side. She would pat the girl's head a little too. She didn't do it intentionally and hopped she hadn't offended Shrine by patting her. Sometimes that made people fell like they were being treated like a child.... then again she was a child. Jeez kids were hard to deal with at times.

If Sera did not stop Shirine did her best to hold on to or chase down her niece. It was for her own good whether she liked it or not. No running off on her own at this age.

"Yeah but he doesn't like me and I don't like him and he's really scary at night because I can never tell where he's standing and his body projects to different places to make it look like he's in a different spot when he's just standing still and it scares me and creeps me out..." her voice faded until she was whispering at the end as the jackal approached her. It wasn't projecting its image to different places at the moment because there weren't enough shadows around for it to be effective.

As it approached her, it kept its eyes on her, watching to make sure she didn't try running again. The coyote walked beside the jackal, trying to get his attention to play. However, it seemed as though the jackal was on a mission, and Sera knew what it was. "I have to go back now. She sent Swift out for me, which means it's time to go back. Now." she remained where she was, frozen in place until Swift (the jackal) grabbed Sera's sweater sleeve with its teeth and began walking back in the direction of where Rimmon was. He didn't hurt her, he just wanted her to follow him.

If Shirine tried anything to stop the jackal, then he would bare his teeth and get more aggressive if he needed to. But otherwise, he was set on getting Sera back to Rimmon. "This is Swift." Sera finally explained what was going on. "He belongs to my mother. Swift and Trixie usually play together and get along really well, but right now he was sent to retrieve me. This isn't the first time that he had to track me down. So, we just follow him and he'll lead us back to the right place." she was obviously disappointed that the jackal found her, even though she thought she had gained enough distance to get away for a while. She let out a long sigh, dreading the return to camp.

Shirine nodded and shifted into her elven form. She felt like she should greet her sister in a non-feline form. Especially with their experiences... she would have to explain a lot to her sister when they met.

She listened to the girl and held her hand to give some comfort as she told her own the jackal scared her. Shirine could see how a mystic animal, which clearly this jackal must be, could be freaky to a young girl.

Sera finished explaining things and she nodded. "Well alright then let us follow him to your mother. I am sure it will be alright and I will still do my best to help you out."

Shirine walked with Serra until they reached the destination. She was eager to see her sister again. She wondered what to say... it had been so long.

The jackal led them back to the lake where they'd find a cabin built near the water's edge. There were people inside, but Rimmon was standing outside with her arms crossed, watching the two as they approached. She looked quite a bit older from the last time Shirine saw her. Rimmon stood at 5'9" in her adult form. Her hair was very long, a pure dark red with black streaks throughout, and her eyes were solid black. She wore a long, elegant dark grey and black dress that complimented her figure, making her overall look much more demonic and powerful than before.

She seemed to have been trying to keep up a menacing look to punish her daughter for taking off the way she did, but as soon as they got close enough, she jogged over to Sera and hugged her tightly. "You had me so worried, Sera. Please never run off like that again. Or at least make sure you drag me or Swift with you the whole way. Ok?"

Sera nodded, apologised for disappearing, and then obeyed her mother as she requested her go inside the cabin. Once she was heading that way, Rimmon stood back up and looked at Shirine. Tears would have filled her eyes if she wasn't so surprised. "Shirine?!" she smiled and wrapped her arms around her tightly. Maybe a bit too tightly. "I'm so happy to see you! I've missed you so much, I'm glad you're ok." she broke the hug after a moment and stepped back a bit, "You look good, sister." she smiled. "How have you been?"

Soon they had arrived and tears were already forming in her eyes as she saw her sister. Rim ran and embraced her daughter and then scolded her. She could tell how much Rim loved Sera from the small exchange. She wondered how hard it had been to raise a daughter alone for the most part.

She waited a bit when Rim saw her and then ran to her. She returned the hug that was just as tight as Rim's. Her own face stained with tears at reuniting with her sister. So many years and they had finally found each other. The hug was finished with some reluctance and she answered her sister, "Yeah I am doing fine these days. I am glad to see you too and I just met your lovely daughter. We have so much to catch up." She dropped her voice to a whisper as she had a question that she didn't want overheard. "It is a sudden question, but is Sera a result of that time right before we escaped?" She hopped the answer was no, but at the same time she knew it was probably a result of that last experiment before.

Still even with this one serious topic she was so happy to see her sister again. They would have to sit down and exchange stories. After this.

Rimmon was happy to hear Shirine was doing fine. She imagined both of them would have been better off if they were able to stick together, but she knew better than to dwell on 'what could have been'. When she heard that Shirine already knew about Sera being her daughter, she nodded, "Yes, so much catching up to do, and a lot of stories to tell. Would you like to come inside? I'm just waiting for a purchase to arrive here, but I've got all the time in the world for you, sis."

She answered Shirine's serious question in the same serious tone and whisper, "Yes, she is a result of that. But I'm still proud every day of everything I survived through and everything I'm going through in order to make her happy. She means the world to me, and I wish I could give her easy answers, but it's really hard to evade the truth. She knows I'm keeping things from her and it's getting harder and harder to keep telling her the same lies. I don't know how to tell her the right thing without her getting upset. She's too young to understand, right? But she needs to understand that it's really too dangerous for her out there alone."

Once they had this serious topic handled, she'd motion for Shirine to follow her inside. Inside the cabin was an entire wall filled with books, and the opposite wall filled with supplies and other things useful for being alone in the forest. It was a type of shop, a little bit of everything. There was also a sitting area where Sera was sitting with Trixie and Swift, reading one of the books about the animals in Norwood.

Shirine nodded in understanding and spoke a few words before they entered the cabin. "Well I might have a solution. I have run a small mercenary group and perhaps she can work with my people for a bit. They are good people and fairly strong too. We can provide some basic training too. She will be watched, protected and get to experience the world a bit too. Plus I can probably make sure her mission keep her away from ... well things until she is more ready."

Having finished the offer she waited to see Rim's response. Regardless walk into the cabin just ahead of her sister. It was quite nice really. A small multipurpose shop... Shirine wondered how long this place had been here. 'Heh you think you know a place after a time and you still find new things.' she thought to herself.

She saw Sera reading and felt a warm happy feeling. She felt like she had cried enough, but really her emotions were still a bit unstable. She was just so happy. She moved over to the table sitting down near her niece. She looked to see what she was reading.

If Rim had agreed to let Sera work with her group she spoke to Sera, "Hey there, got some good news before your mom and I start catching up she agreed to let you join my mercenary group at times, to learn and gain experience. How does that sound?"

She then waited for rim to sit down. "So why don't you go first sis, what have you been doing these last fourteen years?"

Rimmon responded to her offer before heading inside, "Actually, that would be fantastic! I think she could really benefit from that." she didn't say it, but Rimmon was going to benefit from that as well. She needed a break from this kid. "I trust you to give her the right missions. Nothing too dangerous until she's more ready."

They headed inside and she let Shirine sit with Sera for a bit first. Rimmon exchanged a few words with the shop caretaker, and then joined the two on the couches. Sera was ecstatic about joining Shirine's mercenary group and had put the book down so that she could dance around the table and sing in her own celebration. When Rimmon joined them and sat on one of the couches surrounding the table, Sera sat back down but still bounced a little bit in excitement.

Rimmon was happy to see that Sera was really excited about it. It seemed that she really wanted to learn some combat and see the world. When Shirine asked for her to go first about what she has been up to during this time since they last saw each other, Rimmon took a deep breath, and started from the beginning.

"Well, let's see... I ended up staying at a monastery for a while to gather my thoughts and made a few friends there. When I learned that I was pregnant with Sera-"

"And Ruby!" Sera cut in, but was also really interested in the story.

She cleared her throat and nodded, "And Ruby, of course... I went to discover and learn my own magic. You may have heard about Lunar Disciples? I went to their training island, and stayed there until I mastered my abilities. During that time, I was experiencing some hallucinations and odd feelings and things that told me my children were gifted in ways I couldn't begin to explain at the time." she didn't want to go into detail about her pregnancy, as it might have scared Sera. "I returned to the monastery where I received help from a healer, stayed there for a while, and then after Sera was born, we moved to the dark city in Gloomwood. Some people would say it's no place fit for a child, but she was incredibly sensitive to light for the first few years of her life. It has just been me and Sera, and our pets. We have a little place out there, but we often go traveling when the animals at home get a little too rowdy, which seems to be around the same time every year.

"Where did we go last year, Sera? You should tell aunt Shirine about it." Rimmon finished, but wasn't sure if Sera had heard her. She seemed to be staring at her in a strange combination of excitement, jealousy, and confusion.

Sera told Shirine that they went to Cascadia last year. She told her about all the happy animals, art and music, and how she got her first hat to help shade her eyes from the sun. Then she turned back to Rimmon and said, "So you DO know magic! I knew it!"

Shirine heard the brief history of Rim's past for the last 14 years. She found the reasoning for living in Balefire made some decent sense given Sera's apparent to light sensitivity. Shrine didn't particularly like the city, but the entire place had some good and bad points just like any city. Shrine just felt it had more bad in most cases.

She sort of got a feeling she knew what happened to this Ruby that Sera mentioned. She wondered why the girl was mentioning someone who was likely dead.... sigh children often did incomprehensible things.

Soon Sera was chatting about their last trip the sky city. She couldn't help smiling in an amused way at the girl's excitement. She quickly mentioned the trip and then asked her mom about magic. Shirine spoke up, "You know I learned the Lunar Disciple skills myself, though I did't know what it was called for years. Sort of learned it by instinct and desperation mostly. That was during my escape from the drow.

Also I am not sure it is normal magic Sera. It is sort of a ... special magic. Seems like it might run in the family. I am sure one of use will teach you at some point."
She smiled at the girl with a little wink, which meant she would do it if her mom didn't.

"Might as well go through the rest of my own story. I came out near Taras and spent several years there and established a mercenary group. Mostly did jobs for several years while hopping to hear of you... never did have luck with that until now. I had almost given up hope. During that time I also sort of met a person..." She blushed a little. "Well her name is Volare and we both sort of liked Norwood and ended up living around here. My mercenary group mostly moved over here, but we still keep up the Taras Office."

She finished off her own story. She wondered how her sister might react to her choice of relationships. She just wasn't into guys.

Rimmon couldn't help but smile when her daughter pointed out that she knew magic. She nodded, not being entirely sure why she had kept it a secret from her daughter. Especially since she was obviously so interested in it. She looked to Shirine, "The lunar disciple skills came naturally to me as well. I was actually fairly lucky to have found a master to train me for it." she paused and held her hand out with her palm up. She looked at Sera, told her to put her book onto the table, while holding back a smirk. Rimmon then cast Gravity Anchor on the book, and told Sera to try picking it up.

She laughed softly as the child tried with all of her might to pick the book up, and then gave up after a few seconds. She sat there, impressed and confused at the same time. "If you can do that, how come you haven't used any of your abilities to stop me from doing things?" she asked, still looking at the book.

"Because I don't believe in using magic against my own daughter." she said softly, "I'd rather use it to help you learn about it, rather than make you afraid of it, or worse, afraid of me. And your aunt is right, you could learn how to defy gravity as well."

She listened to what Shirine has been up to for the last 14 years, and smiled when she blushed and told her about this Volare girl. "Impressive. Maybe when we get Sera signed up, I could visit one of your offices and meet some people she'll be working with? And I'd love to meet this girl." Rimmon didn't judge whether someone liked girls or guys. She hadn't admitted it yet, but she was more into girls as well. She was obviously excited that Shirine had met someone, and truly hoped to meet her some day.

Shirine smiled and nodded eagerly, "Oh yes I would be most happy to introduce both of you tp everyone. It will be nice to introduce you both to Volare too." She wasn't sure what to ask next as she found her mind oddly blank. So many years preparing and now she wasn't sure how to go about this.

Still they were happy right then, but she decided to probe her sister a bit about how she was doing. At the same time she could admit a little bit of her own condition. "So did you fully recover after the escape? I just ask as well my escape wasn't easy and a few side effects remain with me from those times. Nothing dangerous I have full control over everything...just sort of am still a were-tiger... She worried a bit about this and hopped Rim didn't obsess over this too much. She remembered her sister used to be intense about certain things. She had gotten used to being a were-tiger. Still Wethrin and his obsession with making them pretty little cats had left a bitter taste in her mouth for over a year, before the annoyance slowly weakened until she was just used it as just another part of her self. She wasn't even sure when it had happened. The powers were useful and she wasn't weak as a tiger...sigh. their past was really messed up.

Rimmon wasn't so sure about talking about recovery after what happened in Wethrin's mansion. She didn't want to scare her daughter. "Uhh, well, I did sort of... there are a couple things that have stuck with me permanently, but..." she paused, looking over at Sera, and then back at Shirine. "Really, it's been so long that I've used any of my magic, that I don't know exactly how much is still with me. I remember it all like it was just last week, but uhh..." she wasn't sure how to respond to it. Rimmon was worried that if she told the entire truth, that Shirine wouldn't want to see her anymore. She was worried that if she said too much, that Shirine would find out that everything that happened to her was Rimmon's doing.

There were a lot of subjects, animals, and creatures that didn't deserve anything what Rimmon did to them. Her mind was twisted at the time, but she was still fully aware of what she was doing. She didn't have the heart to tell Shirine that they weren't actually sisters. She didn't want to face that truth.

She changed her tone to something a bit happier. "Being a tiger is pretty fun though, I'm guessing? Tigers are pretty darn strong, compared to other things like wolves or even leopards. These days, the only magic I know is how happy Sera makes me when she doesn't run off and scare me." she winked at Shirine, hoping that Sera would take the comment the right way.

Shrine felt a little better after her sister spoke and sighed in relief, "Actually I was more concerned that you might not like it. You always had some strong opinions. I actually find it fairly comfortable these days... as you say fun. Also I know you were involved in some things back then... don't blame yourself none of it is your fault. So let's not talk about it again. That man is responsible for everything and I love you regardless of whatever happened. Plus now I even have a Niece who I can spoil... though just a bit so her mum doesn't get mad."

She ended up giggling a bit in a relaxed way. She had only felt like this around Volare and even then that was ... well different. She looked over to Sera. "So Serra I think I am out of serious questions, you got any fun ones for me or just tell me more about yourself or stuff you have done." She smiled wanting to now just relax and get to know her family again.
