The reworking of this cPrC has been authorized by Ozan. The basic niche of the class will not be changed, only its mechanics to remove the martial qualifier.
I am highlighting changes made as per request, to make it easier to see.
Devotee of the Blade Custom Prestige Class for: Aeyliea.
Your sense of honor and duty lend you a certain power, enhancing the deadly efficacy with which you already fight. The Devotee is a master of the blade, wielding it with an efficiency that is difficult to match - every movement calculated, every aspect of the fight considered so that on the whole no effort is wasted. It goes further, though - the sense of honor that permeates it all has little love for those who cannot rely upon their own body and mettle to fight, and deplores the arcane. As such, a considerable amount of that deadly efficiency is directed to nullifying those who play with a power that is beyond mortal.
Devotee abilities are primarily non-magical in nature..
Prerequisites:
- Journeyman skill level in Blade or higher.
- Must not own any magic spells.
- Must wield a sword, and own one.
NOTE: All abilities are only available when a sword is being wielded! No ability is useable with any other bladed weapon than a sword.

Level One
- Lion By Right: Your confidence and grace is greatly enhanced in the heat of battle, and so long as you wield a sword you gain a non-magical Haste buff. So long as a sword is in your hand, and unless any opponent facing you owns Combat Casting, any caster will suffer a slight penalty in spell damage for any spells that target the Devotee. This damage mitigation only effects the Devotee, not any other target within a given spell's effect.
Level Two
- Mercurial Strike Twice per fight, you may change the direction of your attack or defensive parry suddenly, and without suffering any penalty to accuracy, strength, or momentum. Such an attack or defense must still follow standard physical rules; a sword may reverse direction suddenly, or change direction at right angles or any angle to its previous course, but may not suddenly appear from a different direction (though your opponent might think it had). Mercurial Strikes are difficult to dodge, as are Mercurial Strikes used to parry difficult to pierce. Mercurial Strike may not be augmented by other abilities.
- Breaking Strike: Your next attack is particularly devastating to those who have strengthened themselves by magical means. If your opponent is not under a magical or non-magical enhancement (this includes PRC related enhancement and those gained by items), this attack will cause a mild knock back. However, for every magical or non-magical enhancement your victim has in place, this attack becomes significantly stronger, capable of taking someone completely off their feet with as few as three latent or active effects. Additionally, for two rounds after this attack, if successful, all enhancements that were active at the time of the attack will be half as effective or potent. Buffs applied after being struck by Breaking Strike will function as normal. This ability may be used once per fight.
Level Three
- Inner Silence: You clear your mind of any regard to sorcery, and through that supreme willpower become immune to it. For two rounds, including the round it is invoked, you become immune to any form of magic, either harmful or beneficial. Any beneficial effects you are currently receiving will fade with the activation of the ability, though any negative effects will as well. You may not be directly touched by spells, but spells may affect you indirectly, as you are not exuding an anti-magic field, simply becoming untouchable, directly, to sorcery. You must have a clear state of mind in order to use this ability. This ability may be used once per fight.
- Delayed Strike: Your next successful sword strike will have no immediate effect on the opponent, or at least no obvious immediate effect. If they are cut, bruised, or broken, the actual outcome and injury caused by the attack will not manifest until the Devotee wishes it to. The longer the Devotee wishes to delay the effect, the more Concentration skill is required, though it cannot be delayed for more than three rounds. This attack is especially useful for breaking the concentration of a caster in the process of casting a spell, or throwing an opponent off balance at a crucial moment. A clear mind is required to perform this feat, and attacks made under the Delayed Strike effect may not be augmented by other abilities. This ability may be used twice per fight.
Level Four
- Crusher: By making contact with your enemy you can painfully disrupt their ability to use magic. If your opponent is in the process of casting a spell when you activate Crusher, they will be wracked by severe psionic damage, inducing excruciating pain for a moment. The afflicted opponent will suffer wild surges in their mana for two posts afterward. This makes spell casting extraordinarily difficult and potentially unsafe. This ability can be used once per fight.
Level Five
- Shockburst: You slash the air, generating a cone of force that extends up to forty five feet away from you, with a fifteen foot width at maximum distance. The damage of the slash is more severe at greater distances. Within fifteen feet this attack generates a moderate knockback and mild blunt damage. Between fifteen and thirty feet, it generates significant knockback and moderate blunt damage, capable of inflicting bruising force; from thirty to forty-five feet it is capable of cutting into light and medium armor, and denting heavy armor, additionally knocking any person or animal off of their feet, and potentially damaging or destroying wooden structures. This attack is extremely harmful to unprotected flesh within the final twenty feet of its range. Abilities or magic that augment strength or damage may not be applied to Shockburst. This ability may be used twice per fight, and is fatiguing if used in quick succession. .
