Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Shirine listened to Volare talk and found the conversation interesting. At first she hadn't realized that the woman in front of her was an elder, but it soon became clear. She felt a little embaressed having talked so casually to an elder... then again Elder Illiriel seemed to be the nice sort.

On a small note Shirine was also not wearing shoes. She had stayed in elven villages before and many didn't wear any since the paths were usually well cared for and comfortable. It felt nice to walk without shoes more natural if one thought about it, but Shirine never did think too deeply on that sort of thing. She had noted that Volare was also bare foot and it made her happy for some reason.

Illiriel had looked at Shirine and then at the arm Volare had around Shirine's bit and seemed to have guessed something even with her just standing there and giggled a little. Having taken care of Volare a bit she had learned a little, so whispered to Volare explaining what the action usually meant.

She then bid them a good day and Shirine responded, "Thank you for your time and help Elder Illiriel." "Just Illiriel young one and you two have a nice quite day and remember nothing strenous or the head healer Melianas will be yelling at you both.

Once out side the first building the emerged into the village proper and at this point Shirine's stomach growled. The tigress had not eaten and yet in her excitement and embaressed confusion of the morning. Looking embarrassed she said, "Opps sorry maybe we could find a place to eat first?"

Volare blushed when Illiriel whispered into her ear. Actually, blushed isn’t really the right word. She sort of turned a different colour entirely. That only made Illiriel grin, of course. She tried to hide it but Volare saw it. She was quite certain that Shirine had as well. Still, Volare didn’t remove her hand from the crook of Shirine’s arm; after all, they had already been seen in that manner and there was no reason to let go now. When Illiriel warned her again about moving too much, she took it with a grain of salt. (At least, she thought that was the proper phrase…)

After Illiriel had moved on, Shirine’s stomach began to growl. It seemed that she was hungry. Truth be told, Volare had eaten only very little since coming here - a bit of greens and some tea. That was about it. While she was certainly a vegetarian (as Illiriel had called her), she should probably find something with a bit more substance to it before she began any sort of training. It was only about mid-morning now, so there was plenty of time for both a small meal and a lot of training. She nodded at Shirine’s mention of it.

”Where do you suggest?” she inquired.

Shirine was obviously familiar with this place and its people. Volare, though she was comfortable here, was not. This place was both welcoming and strange to her, and its people were no different. She knew nothing about where to go or what to do here. Besides, she was a little more concerned with her private war than she was with exploration. Still, it wouldn’t hurt to learn a little more about the place and its people; food was certainly a good way to accomplish that, at least in part. She would thus have to rely upon Shirine’s expertise in this matter.

Shirine raised her nise a bit focusing on the scents around her. They briefly became much clearer and she started to lead Volare down a path. " Ah a bakery is down this way. I can smell some tasty things coming out of an oven there.

Hmm.. come to think of it that will probably be another change for you after the bite. A WERE often has improved sense regardless of the form they are in. You may smell more things, have sharper hearing, or even your taste in food could change a little. I noticed you do not eat meat much. Felines are carnivores so you may crave it at times after transforming. The better senses can have down sides at a times too.

It was only a couple blocks to the bakers and the door was open so soon Volare could smell the sents of fresh baked goods. Volare had time to respond to Shirine before they went in the bakery. Out front it had a few tables grown out of wood with chairs that had a soft moss on them were surprisingly soft as silk. The natural abilities of eleven craftsman ship was amazing. Another pair were alreasy sitting it one tabke eating what looked like bread sith raisins and ciminon in it.

Entering the shop was a friendly looking male elf that had just pulled out a tray of glazed jelly donunts. Shirine could smell them in detail and ordered three with a small bottle of milk. Those pastries had just smelled too good to pass up.. The drinks were in small cold box to the side seeming mostly small bottles of milk, juices and water. Shirine then looked at Volare, "Ah ... what would you like? This is my treat. It looks like there are plenty of tasty things to try."

Once they had their meal Shirine paid the baker and went out to sit at a table with Volare.

That didn’t sound particularly appealing...but she supposed that if she focused on the reason for her dislike of meat - her deep, profound respect for nature and the butchering that she had seen done by the humans - she could probably overcome such a craving. Of course, there was still the matter of control as a whole. She hoped Shirine wasn’t implying that she’d be overwhelmed by her cravings but if she would be, then she would have to trust Shirine to help her through them. As for the senses, that in itself would be advantageous even without the additional physical prowess.

She didn’t know anything about Imythessian pastries but she nodded in response to Shirine’s mention of a bakery. When they walked in, a handsome male Elf smiled at her. She returned the smile with the slightest one of her own. Then her eyes turned to the jelly-filled pastries and other things. She asked what was in one particular pastry and was told that it was a meat pie. She quickly turned away from that one. There were others that supposedly had fruit in them but she wasn’t going to chance it. She’d never heard of a bakery offering meat pies before; perhaps it was a human concoction? But why, then, would the Elves have it? It didn’t make any sense to Volare.

She turned instead to a tray of what the Elf called fritters. There were apple fritters, cherry fritters, blueberry fritters, blackberry fritters, and raspberry fritters. She took two each of the blueberry and blackberry fritters as well as a bottle of apple juice. Since it was Shirine’s treat, she didn’t have to worry about paying for it herself. It wasn’t that she was greedy or wanted to take advantage of Shirine, of course; it was just that she was hungry and a little sugar could go a long way. When she had her pastries and juice, the Elf looked to Shirine for payment. She was Elven, after all, and so it was only natural that the Elf had looked to her rather than to the Fae near her.

Shirine focised onxeating her meal for now. She was certainly a little less refined than a standared elf, but not messy by any means. She was simply an enthusiastic eater who enjoyed her food. Shirine had noticed Volare's dislike of meat again in the bakery and once she finished off her pastries she decided to ask about. She still had some milk in her bottle so she felt like taking rhe end oc the meal slowly.

"Hmm... you seem to really dislike meat. If you are worried about what I said none of the chages to taste are overwhelming. Just little change like you might enjoy something you disliked before.

Though I do have to wonder why do you dislike meat? It is fairly natural thing for most people to eat meat and the only thing to remeber isoto respect the creature you kill for it. Make sure you use the life wisely and don't waste it. Really I am just wondering as I could not imagine not eating some meat from time to time, but i sort of want to learn your view of it....."
the last part had Shirine almost saying she wanted ro learn more about Volare, but she could not say that much. Though not being great at hiding her thoughts it was possible Volare could guess what Shirine had left out.

Shirine some how knew her words about hunting were part of her nearly fogoten past. She was sure some elf had taught her how to hunt with respect... but she could not remember who. Again her past was surfacing and it puzzled her a bit, but occasionally these sorts of memories surfaced.

After Shirine had paid and they had sat down, there was no talk to be had for the most part. The blueberries and blackberries were ripe and tart; the sugar was a good match for them. In short, they were delicious. Volare was almost ravenous, for she had never had such things before; they didn’t exist in Gwyllion and she’d never had enough gold to get them in Taras. But as the meal slowly came to a close and her juice began to dwindle, she heard Shirine speak of the changes to come. She nodded silently. Then Shirine asked about her dislike of meat.

”None of my people are carnivorous,” she replied with a shrug. She was fairly certain she had picked up the habit by watching others, possibly humans, and that knowledge made her stop half-way through the action. ”We have always taken what nature has given us. Those of Ellyllon might have become carnivorous to some extent, feasting upon the dead, but I do not know for certain. I only know that to us, there is never any reason to kill.”

She lowered her eyes. There never was any reason to kill. Blinking, she raised her gaze once more.

”But in Imythess, it seems that everyone enjoys eating other animals. I’m simply not interested in it.”

There was more to it, of course, but she wasn’t going to say what else there was. She supposed once you saw an animal butchered and eaten right in front of you, it was hard to then eat that animal when someone cooked it out-of-sight. Whatever lack of interest in eating meat she had before the humans had come to Gwyllion, it had turned to outright distaste bordering on disgust after she had escaped from her homeland. But like everything else, it was both something she didn’t like to think about and something she couldn’t stop thinking about.

”So…martial arts,” she said, trying to change the subject, ”have you practiced any in the past?”

Shirine let the matterr drop, but she got the feeling there was more to the tale. Still it was interesting to know Volare's people were all like that... herbivores by nature...? She supposed Volare would explain more when ready.

She answered the next question instead, "No I have not personally practiced, but I habe met many who do. I have always been curious, but usually heen too busy with a job to try it out. I habe heard the elven tend to practice the more peaceful and introspective forms of marrial arts."

Shirine then realized something.... "Oh I think I should srop by a clothing store before we go.... a dress is not really an outfit you can work out in.. I hope you won't mind a detour like that?"

Volare nodded.

”Táijíquán and Nánquán,” she replied.

She wondered what other “peaceful” martial arts there were. More curious was she, however, about the implied definition of “martial” arts. “Martial” implied war, and yet so-called “peaceful” martial arts existed. Perhaps they had been created to prepare one’s body and mind for war as opposed to merely teaching one the arts of war? That made sense, she supposed. After all, she could imagine how not being ready for a war could be disastrous. It had been in Gwyllion. The Fae were peaceful; they were also powerful but they did not wield their magic or abilities as weapons unless absolutely needed.

Shirine’s attention to her Elven dress drew Volare’s attention to it as well, probably in a place that her eyes shouldn’t have been looking. There seemed to be a lot of that going around today. When she realized that she was staring, she averted her eyes once more. It was becoming almost an automatic practice. She blinked and nodded, though.

”Sure,” she said nonchalantly.

She would alter her wardrobe outfit to suit her needs once they reached the place to which they were ultimately headed. Whatever Shirine chose was probably what would be best for “working out”, as she called it, so that’s what she would alter her attire to as well. Oh, she’d add her own little twist to it, of course; tigress features aside, it wouldn’t do for them to look identical to one another. There had to be some differentiation in their attire. For one thing, she didn’t like the idea that she might look like someone else. Truth be told, it was kind of a creepy thought. Mistaken identity had already occurred a couple of times in Taras, and not by very nice people. It wasn’t something she wished to repeat, either for better or for worse.

Shirine definetely noticed theway Volare looked at her and when she glanced away. She had been a little unsure, but it was how she herself was acting at times.... Finishing her drink she offered her arm to Volare again. She had to ask someone were the tailor was and it took maybe fifteen minutes to walk there.

While they walked Shirine hesitated and then bent down a little to whisper to Volare, "It... it s alright to stare a little... I find it flatering.... I hope you do not mind my glances from time to time. You are just really pretry and I really am enjoying your company....." Again she felt like she had plunged off a deep end. She was so new to this and her animal side kepts saying go for it.... which was not really helping. Was this being too forward or going to fast... but what she said was the truth she did sort of enjoy the looks she was getting from Volare. Her entire face had gone beat red as she waited nervously on how Volare would respond. The short walk suddenly felt much much longer.

She took Shirine’s arm again, not really thinking about it this time. After they’d gotten directions to the local tailor, things were quiet for a few moments. Then Shirine leaned over a little, their height difference ever the more obvious as she did so, and whispered softly into her pointed Fae ears. She blinked and blushed at what Shirine had to say, brief though it was. Out of the corner of her eye, though, she could see that she hadn’t blushed anywhere near as much as Shirine. She didn’t know what to say at first.

In Gwyllion, everything was so free and natural. There was no cycle of love and hate; people were together and then they were with others, and while there might be slight jealousy here and there, nothing was ever done that was truly hurtful. Oh, there were occasional prank streaks, but hearts were usually healed relatively quickly. For the most part, people just did what was natural - and it worked. Everyone in Imythess, though, was desperately concerned with monogamy - "exclusivity”, they called it. She’d listened to people speaking but couldn’t understand Common; yet she hadn’t needed to. She could see what was going on, the way people acted around and reacted to one another. She saw relationships formed and broken, and she saw the occasional couple get back together. There were always grudges, always hurt feelings, and nothing was ever the same after that first huge fight. What was worse was that the arguments that took place in public seemed to amplify the pain felt.

The whole thing had made Volare much shier than she probably should have been, much more “innocent” in a way. It didn’t help that this place was completely foreign to her, and not in a good way. Everywhere she looked, she saw the mark of progress. The Elves, at least, utilized nature for such a thing. But the true progressionists or progressivists - the words were interchangeable, for there was no such word in the Fae tongue; the closest one could come for a literal translation was “one move front”, which became “person moving forward” in Elvish - took from nature what they wanted and remade it into something that had never been intended. While Dwarves might have carved some things out of stone and Gnomes might have helped to shape certain things, what the humans had done was barbaric (as far as Volare was concerned, at least). Stone was different, anyway; it was made to be broken by nature, for that was how it spread. But the trees grew for so long, and there was so much that was destroyed simply for the sake of human advancement…it was downright disgusting at best.

It was sad how often everything came back to humanity and the reasons for Volare’s hatred in her mind…

Anyway, back to the matter at hand…she finally nodded to acknowledge what Shirine had said. Volare had been with both boys and girls, so to her, it was only natural to look. She couldn’t help it. But it was apparently a shameful thing in Imythess, which Volare didn’t understand. She had learned to adapt to an extent, shying away from staring at people for too long or in the wrong way lest they grow angry. It was just one more thing she had to do to survive. When she did speak, it was soft but not so soft that Shirine’s ears could not pick up what she said.

”You are certainly beautiful, Shirine,” she told the Elven weretigress, ”and it is almost a crime not to admire such beauty.”

Now she was blushing even more, though Shirine had blushed still deeper than her. But there was a very small, slight smile upon Volare’s lips now. If nothing else, at least they had an understand between them - a casual one. She didn’t know if a relationship would develop with this woman; it might be that they were only ever friends. But she couldn’t deny that the Elven maid’s curves and features were enticing, to say the least.

Shirine was almost stunned on how well that had gone over. A serene happy smile came to her face that would not go away. Volare looked... well adorable being shy. Shirine was not even aware that she drew her arm in a bit bringing them closer together. Not touching, but very close to it. They might have even bumped against each other breifly, but Shirine was already to lost in her own excitement, thoughts, happiness and embaressment. Her blush just sould not go down and she was thankful that elves were probably the most accepting race of this sort of thing. Onenthing she did know was she wanted to get to know Volare more after this.

The entire thing had probably overloaded her really that she almost did not realize they had arrived at the shop. It was at this point she realized how close she was to Volare and released her arm while getting the door. It was a slightly paniced as she was worried she had done too much again. She knew it would be a while until she could truely do anything sithout blushing and panicing... still holding the door let her be polite and gave her some time to breath and collect herself before entering the shop.

OOC: Leaving the shop description to Volare and she can possibly find a wardrobe outfit.

How long had it been, she wondered, since she had felt the embrace of another? It certainly had not been recent. The war against the human progressionists had not been short. To say that it had not been easy could have been recorded among the greatest of historical understatements. The Fae had lost the war for Gwyllion. There was no simpler way to say it: the Fae had lost. There was no other way to look at it, either. By all accounts, the Fae had been (by far) more powerful and more numerous than the humans; yet the humans had brought strange magic to Gwyllion, magic they reinforced with machinery and methods of combat that the Fae had never even dreamed of in their worst nightmares. The Fae had eventually learned to fight back, stopping what the humans had called their “Progressionist Movement”. But they could not drive them out, and that was what had eventually worn the Fae down.

In the end, there was no telling how many - or how few - had escaped death (or worse) by the hand of an insidious foe far cleverer in the ways of war than the peace-loving Fae. The humans had taken everything from those of Gwyllion; their next target would almost certainly be Ellyllon, assuming they were not already at war with or had not already taken them. Volare only knew of her own escape; she knew nothing of any other Fae that had escaped, nor did she know if anyone had escaped the human occupation of Gwyllion as a whole. She had been extremely fortunate…

But a tender embrace, one born of love and friendship and an intimacy that was unparalleled by any not of the race of Fae that had once dwelt in Gwyllion…that was something she had not experienced for…well, several years. The last time it had happened was with a boi-Fae who had been among the first to die. He had been put on the front lines of the war not long after it had broken out, acting as a member of the defensive wall that prevented the humans from reaching the Gathering Ritual. Such a ritual was only performed in the most dire of circumstances, such as those events that might bring about the destruction of the continent (or its people) as a whole. The ritual invoked all the wrath of nature and all the power of every living Fae; not everyone need be present for it, of course - just the oldest and most powerful, for they were the only ones strong enough to weather the overwhelming tide of raw, uncontrolled magical power.

Volare had been one of the guardians of the Elder Fae, the ones who had performed the ceremony. There had been on “leader”, of course, for that was not how the Fae fought. They fought as one…died as one…that was what had made the human slavers particularly insidious: they had separated the Fae from one another in so drastic a manner as to horrifically sever their emotional ties. After that, severing their wings became increasingly easy - and with them, their ties to nature. With their ties to nature gone, so was their power. And without power, they were no more able to fight the humans than the humans were able to fight themselves. The difference, of course, was that the humans were far more experienced soldiers.

But with the completion of the ceremony, the Elder Fae had called upon their patron deity. Xye had neither name nor gender, for it was more a manifestation of the heart-beats and mind-sets of all those of Gwyllion and Ellyllon than any physical representation of a Chaon-bound race. Xir power had been immense; xye had slaughtered humans by the dozens just to make a statement; when that had failed, xye had slaughtered them by the hundreds. But they quickly adapted, learning to hide from her by using her own elemental powers against her. They had shielded themselves with magic that drained her powers and strengthened the human mages, and that had been the ultimate downfall of the Fae.

Thoughts of the war against the humans were completely depressing. Even worse was the question that all of this dredged up within Volare: if not even a goddess bearing all the power and majesty of her entire race could annihilate the invading humans, what chance did she have to bring the tide of vengeance to those that had wronged her people? It seemed an impossible task, an insurmountable quest. Still worse, she had found herself surrounded by the monstrous race when she had washed up on that Tarasian shore. She had even been found by a human. She liked to think that she had nearly scared the bastard to death when he’d awoken her but alas, she knew that she hadn’t terrified him that badly. If she had, she would have picked his corpse clean.

At least she’d retained the wardrobe outfit that she’d stolen from one of her captors. She had almost cast it out after donning it, yet a comment from a passerby had revealed to her that the garment was of Elven make - not human. The humans had likely stolen them from the Elves just as they had stolen the Fae themselves and their wings. She now knew where at least some of her brethren had found the sweet release of death, yet even the pleasures of reincarnation had been denied to them. She wondered now what peace their souls might find, denied as they were the chance to return as a part of nature.

Volare’s dark thoughts were disturbed when she felt a tugging on her arm. She looked up and blinked rapidly to see that Shirine was pulling open a door. Glancing above the door and then inside, she realized that they had reached their destination. She bowed her head in thanks and moved through the doorway. The inside looked like a typical shop, with a front counter some distance from the door. Off to the right, a short and narrow hallway led into what looked like a small eatery; she could see tables beyond that were set up for eating in the open air. But to the left, she saw racks of almost every kind of Elven merchandise one could imagine. She nodded to the shopkeeper when he greeted her with a warm and friendly smile, and then she walked into the shop proper. Elven attire of almost every variety was hung on racks, folded neatly upon shelves, or stowed in cubby holes for easy accessibility. There were several people working near the far wall, various stools and desks for facilitating the taking of measurements and preparation of custom garments standing idle. At this early hour, only a couple of people were actually being fitted or perusing the wares of the Elven tailors.

Volare turned to Shirine for guidance. Her wardrobe outfit provided her with whatever she needed but Shirine was clearly not equipped with such a thing. She didn’t know if the Elves had any wardrobe outfits here but if they did, it would certainly be more beneficial than purchasing individual articles of clothing; such things could be easily damaged or dirtied, after all, and they took a while to clean and dry.

Shirine stepped into the shop and well honestly wasn't quite sure either. There were lots of things, but what she was looking for was something easy to move in, but that description often got misinterpreted by all sorts... especially if she kept being embarrassed around Volare like she was currently.

She decided to just start with finding a selection and pants and shirts and started browsing that. She comment to Volare. "Wow they have a lot of selection and good workmanship here. See if you can find something that looks easy to move in and won't be embarrassing to do acrobatics in." She paused and then add. "Also maybe if you spot some wraps or top underclothes call me over. The one I borrowed is okay, but I need something to well hold these better if I am going to do any exercise." Shirine blushed a little at the comment as it really brought attention to that area, but it was true. She really needed support to keep those things under control. It was really painful otherwise. Sadly wraps was often the best solution as she was a bit too big for other solutions unless they were custom made.

She sighed a little at this little inconvenience of life, but continued browsing. So far the shopkeepers just let the brows seeming to wait for one of the two to call for help if they needed it.

Volare nodded and turned away. There was indeed quite a bit to choose from. At least half of it was more civilian or ceremonial than anything else, designed for comfort and fashion. While the Elves certainly weren't the most pompous of people, if one was to judge by brief encounters and the simplistic nature of their woodland lifestyles, Volare could not deny that even the most basic of their garments had a certain beauty to them. There was an elegance to the Elves that the humans would never have and that only the Fae could match, although one might describe the Fae more as child-like than elegant.

Volare fingered a number of different articles, slightly curious about them but not enough to try them on or be fitted for them. She brushed her fingers across some samples of material, great rolls on vertical wooden posts, but they held no real fascination for her. It was near a back corner of the shop that she saw something special, something that made her glance into a mirror nearby. Indeed, it was the same material. Precisely what it was woven from, Volare did not know; what she did know was that it was a wardrobe outfit, and that was all that she needed to know.

She looked around for her friend and soon found her. She motioned to get her attention and indicated that she should come over. When she did, Volare pointed out the garment before her. It had currently taken the form of a hood-less cloak, one grey-green with a slight sheen to it, about five feet long. It was a general-purpose raiment but when it needed to, it would become whatever Shirine needed it to become.

”What about this?” she inquired. ”It is the same thing that I wear. It...has Elven magic in it, I think. It shifts as necessary. I believe you have seen mine do so, yes?”

Shirine looked up with clear interest. She had actually wanted a set of shifting clothes it would make life much easier especially if she transformed. She hopped it didn't cost too much... "Really clothes like yours.... that sounds perfect. It is a real hassle whenever I transform to adjust or change clothes or have them be destroyed."

She came over examining the thing. It didn't look like shapeshifting clothes to her, but Volare was better at this sort thing... or at least she knew something about magic, which Shirine knew nothing about. She decided to take it up to ask the shop owner about it, "Hey my friend says this can shapeshift and if so how much?"

"Oh yes that is a wardrobe outfit. Make sure to concentrate on what you want clearly for the best results. It should shift to whatever you need... She quoted a price and it was within her budget so Shirine bought it right away.

She went into a changing room and changed out of her her currently borrowed clothes and put on the wardrobe outfit. She focused a bit and found it weird as the clothes shifted, but soon she had a nice pair of workout pants with a tight shirt. This was certainly something she could get used to. It wasn't anything special and was the same green grey color as she hadn't focused on that much. She was impressed as it even formed a tail hole.

She stepped out, but not having used it before or really practiced at controlling her thoughts yet caused a small problem. She came out seeing Volare she briefly thought about what it would be like to wear something sexy around her. It wasn't a thought she would have acted on, but of course the outfit responded and shifted rapidly into a pink lace bra and panties and not much else. She paused a minute and then let out an eep and used her hands to try and cover herself. She then tried to focus on something else and failing for the moment. "Umm... you got any advice on controlling this thing???"

Shirine hopped Volare had some advice.
