Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Alpha looked at the ship he had been advised to take. The Tarasian officials said they would send backup, but first he would need to acquire the help of a man named 'Goby'. Alpha wore his usual red calmonah wood armor, his red helmet had a hole in the back to allow his long blonde hair hang out the back, he was one of the few golems that was given actual hair. He walked up the planks to the ship, ignoring the sailors that moved to stop him, his katana and saber were on his back and hip respectively, and in his hands, a bag of gold and a letter with directions to the sea area where he would need them to take him.

Alpha held up the letter as he spoke, "Bring me your captain. I have official business from the Tarasian Government. Tell him a great deal of gold is on the line and he will be paid well for the use of his ship."

Alpha kept still and quiet until Goby would arrive, once he was there he would hand him the letter explaining that Alpha was a flesh golem and needed to be transported to a secret underwater base, and that after memorizing the directions below, to destroy the letter and bring Alpha to the base. It also mentioned another adventurer that would join them, but Alpha did not know who or what it could be, he was just doing as he was told... it felt good to be a soldier again.

A tanned man with sunbleached hair looked up from the net he'd been mending, staring down at the odd man at the end of the dock, far from the shops, bars, individuals of negotiable affections, or any little stand or stop that didn't cater to the men and women working the sea. He cocked an eyebrow. Most of the other dockworkers, fishmongers, and sailors also watched as they half went about their business. Tarisian government didn't ask anything of their lot besides issuing fines when they were caught not registering their shipments. Whatever The Midnight Sun's captain got caught up in, it'd be a good show.

"Ah'm the captain," he admitted. "Ah, Ah'm sorry, ah, sir, but Ah think you got the wrong ship," he called down, draping the net over the rail as he leaned over. "Yoo might wanna look for the more milit'ry ships up a ways. We're just fishers 'round here."

He leaned over close enough, however, that the red armored fellow shoved a paper into his face, forcing him to either accept it or facial papercuts. Annoyed and flustered, he opened it and read through several times, slowly but solidly. Yes, there was his name, there was his ship's name, there were a bunch of big fancy words and flourished signatures and waxed blobs imprinted with complex symbols. It looked very official. It might even be official. He groaned and grasped his forehead, accidentally crumpling the note in the process.

"Look, ah, Mister...Alpah?" he guessed. "Like Ah said, Ah'm just a fisher. Ah don't even know why the big nobs would know about me, and Ah might like the idea of the money, but Ah dunno if this sort of thing is worth risking mah ship."

There were a hundred reason she shouldn't even be considering doing this, and only a handful that spoke to her as reasons to participate. It was just as well that she was accustomed to making poor decisions and then wading through the reprecussions of those decisions. Today's particular bit of folly was joining a hunt for a very powerful enemy that had attacked the docks of Taras, killing people and causing significant damage.

Which, basically, meant that it was kinfolk to Luna. The difference was one of intent - she never intended on killing people are destroying things. It just happened that way a lot.

She reached the harbor, and took a deep breath. The air smelled of brine and sour mud. It smelled of pitch, of a thousand different spices and goods; of canvas sails and more subtle odors of the more mechanized arcanotechnology that moved some of the vessels moored here. Threading through it all, was the smell of smoke and faint odor of blood. It hadn't been very long since the attack, after all, and some of the evidence still remained in plain sight, as well as plain to other senses.

She turned, and walked along the quay. She wore her dress, which was mundane at the moment. Its plae blue went well with the pale flesh she left exposed, and the darkly red hair that cascaded down her back in waves. She had not bothered to tie it back today, not really caring if it was loose. In all likelihood, she would not have to worry about a physical confrontation with the enemies that the Taras officials had briefed her on. If she did, she was dead.

She had other weapons, and other ways.

Her step was light. It had been a long time since she could openly walk the streets without disguise. It was a risk, but she felt that it was a warranted one. She hadn't even signed up for this job with her real name - that would have been folly on a different scale. She had signed her name as Allrianne, with no surname given. There had been no questions - the Taras Guards wanted the beast destroyed, and wanted it so badly that they didn't care about such minor details as that. They were paying in gold, which was a commodity that she seldom had any of, let alone enough of. Her war withthe Lord had sapped what little money she'd had.

It would be nice to sleep with a roof over her head again.

She had been told to find a certain ship. It had been chartered for this particular mission, under the leadership of a man called Goby. For some reason, that name tickled at her mind - she felt as if she should know it, from somwhere. Whatever it was, the memory would not come.

And there was a vessel up ahead, with a man standing on the dock and another up in the nets of what was presumably his ship. Luna frowned. She couldn't see either very well from here, but one of them - the one on the vessel - looked familiar. From where?

She approached. Alpha? Goby? I am here at the direction of the Taras Guards. I assume the names belong to you two - the ship is the right one, the Midnight Sun. My name is....Allrianne. I am along for this adventure. Her lips did not move, and her large, dark eyes regarded both of them warily. The sound of her voice appeared to arrive directly in their heads without passing through their ears, but it was not telepathic communication. It was something altogether else.

My feet slightly dangled above the rough cobbled stone, that laced the streets of Taras, while I sat firmly on the stone bench that sat in a small floral courtyard that lead the way to the docks. I had been back in Taras for only a few weeks, seeking clues that may lead me to where the Colton family had ran away and disappeared to during the destruction of Taras, but it seemed as if I wouldn't ever find any leads. I felt almost aimless at this point, I need some direction and gold - even if it had nothing to do with the Colton family.

All of a sudden something hit my head, my face turned to that of an angry stone gargoyle. I quickly stood up and began to look around, I didn't see anyone, but I was ready to fight!! "What the?!" I looked around, but still no one was there. I heard a crunch as I took a step, looking down at my feet I realized I had crushed something, as I picked it up and began to uncrumble it with my hands.

Payton,

Your assistance has been required by the Tarasian Officials. We need you urgently to report to a gentleman that goes by the name of Goby down at the docks. A hunt has begun for the creature that attacked the docks recently killing many bystanders.

Trustfully,
Your Guardian Angel

I squinted one of my eyes as the expression began to pinch my facial muscles. Who the hell would have written to me, thrown the letter, and then disappeared before I could ask any questions?! This was suspicious to say the least. Perhaps, someone had heard rumors of me? Who would know about me? I hadn't done anything worth mentioning ... yet. I suppose I could at least go and see what this was about. I will keep this Guardian Angel in the back of my mind to try and figure out who it was, perhaps they were at the docks. Maybe this was a prank. I my eyes narrowed as I pressed my lips forward together and let out a sigh.

Aria smiled as I began to walk my way over to the docks, her plan worked perfectly. Perhaps, with any luck she could alter the dark path that my soul has began to wander down.

As I approached the docks, I really got a sense of the hustle and bustle of this scene, there were only a few ships in port, but many citizens lines the docks running around working on their tasks of the day. I lightly bumped into someone, "Could you point me in the direction of where Goby and his ship are?" The young man rolled his eyes at me and pointed over his shoulder, "Over that way." Before I could thank him he had turned around and was walking off to his destination. "Rude!", I thought to myself.

As I approached Goby, I saw that he had other companions with him. Perhaps, one of them had somehow gotten that letter to me. I might inquire later, as for now I wanted to hear the plan. The sun came out from behind the clouds, which made my freckles glitter like golden rhinestones. Hiding was nearly impossible for myself, if it wasn't my skin sparkling it was my green emerald eyes. No they weren't just the color of emeralds, they actually were emeralds with two tiny diamonds are at both corners and tiny purple and blue rhinestones dusts the underneath of my eyes and my eye lids. Being an Earth Element Genasi had its downfalls for sure.

I held out my hand, "My name is Payton and I am reporting for duty."

Alpha was about to correct Goby, when two women boarded the ship, both claiming to be part of the mission. The Tarasian Government mentioned one person, but as both of them wished to come along, Alpha wouldn't say no to an extra blade or spell slinger. Alpha bowed to both women as he said, "I am Flesh Golem Prototype Zero Zero Zero. Specialized in Anti-Golem warfare, codename Alpha."

After that he turned back to Goby, taking the letter and pointing at a certain set of words, "This is a submersible ship. The Tarasian Government knows that this ship can go underwater, which is what we need. It is the only ship of the correct size to make port in the undersea base. I will do all that is in my power to stop any enemy forces from damaging your ship. The destruction of Mach Manatee is more important than any fishing trip you plan on doing. The Government will also reward you for your services. I was promised it would be no small amount of gold, but a substantial reward for helping me and my two allies execute the terrorist threat." Alpha's face was still and cold the entire time, there was no real passion for the job behind his voice like some Golems might have, but cold logic, orders, and under it all, those that were abnormally perceptive might sense the undercurrent of anger.

More people arrived! The whistles and shouts from the dockworkers, a few of them at least, heralded them as women. Goby looked up to see one stranger and one very familiar face, though the voice came as a shock.

"Luna?" He called, leaning over the railing to see down the dock better. "Was that-" He flinched back as the golem man grabbed the crumpled letter from his hand and began to point to certain lines. Goby still had trouble working out the words, but he understood what Al-fa said, and the stick accompanying the carrot of profit the Taras government hung before him. His ship was, in fact, submersible. Submersible ships required specific licensing by the Tarisian Port Authority. Goby barely bothered with his fishing permit and ship registry. He could help the Alphfa man, or he could enjoy the company of some very serious men with even more serious paperwork that could, according to the law of the land, take his ship from him.

He'd vanish across the waves long before that, of course, but he made most of his coin in Taras. He'd like to not be hunted here. Goby's body sagged in resignation as he flopped against the rail.

"Fiiiine, Mister Golem, sir, Ah get it. Lemme find the gangplank so the lot of yoo can get aboard." A bit of rummaging on the deck reclaimed the longboard that led from ship to shore - It hung on the cabin's side, forgotten and ignored - and he set it in place. "Welcome aboard, Mister Alphfa and Luna and, Payton, right?" He desperately wanted to interrogate Luna, ask how she was, how she could speak, if she found the help she sought in Striberg or somewhere else, but his glare couldn't part from the golem man's cold face.

"So, am Ah to assume yoo're taking control of the ship, too?" he asked. Alphfa could try, and likely thought the Sun, like most modern vessels, had automatic controls with water elemental engines and air elemental powered sails, golem mechanics fine tuning the rest of the machinations that ensured she'd stay upright and on course, eschewing the old ways of rope and said and currents and weather.

It didn't.

Luna winked at Goby, but said nothing of the matter. Her thoughts - had they been broadcast aloud - were quite amusing. Execute the terrorist threat? Sounds a lot more noble and heroic than just earning enough to put a roof over my head and not have to eat squirrels for a month or ten. All internal, of course - she wouldn't even dream of saying something like that around people she didn't know or - looking at Goby - know well.

She boarded the vessel via the gangplank, feeling the moment she went from solid ground to shifting deck as the vessel rode the waves. SHe was blessed with a solid stomach, at least, and would not get seasick for however long they remained on the surface. She eyed the other two, and hid a smile inwardly. Not for the first time, she wondered at what it was they faced exactly. She had not been here for the attack, but the authorities were quite shaken by what they had encountered, which counted for something.

Nice to meet you, Payton and Alpha. Again, her words did not arrive via the ears, seeming to instead appear right in their heads.

Hmm well no one asked me any questions about being here, so I suppose this has worked. My Guardian Angel got it right this time. I looked over at the ship that we were all about to dock. I hadn't ever been on a ship, my stomach became slightly queasy. I pressed my lips, this too shall pass I thought to myself. But when? Apparently, Luna can speak to us through out minds. Could she read out minds at any given time? I was not okay with this possibility floating around. I needed to stop thinking at this point and address this head on, even if people tend to not like that approach.

I shifted uneasy, "I would say it is nice to meet all of you, however my guard is up. Luna, since it appears you can speak to us with thoughts alone, does this mean you venture into our thoughts as well?"

I reached my hand out to shake the hands of everyone else standing nearby. Give them faith I wasn't here to start ruckus with my questioning of Luna. Who knows perhaps someone here had knowledge of the Colton family, I needed to play my cards right.

Once they had all introduced themselves, Gobi called one 'Luna' and the other was Payton. Alpha waited for them to gather and turned to Gobi, "I am a combat based flesh golem using both saber and magic. I do not know how to use a ship or commence diving operations. Just have your men follow the map on the note, but first I will explain what we are going to face."

Alpha looked at them all once more before continuing, "We will be facing an enemy golem bent on the mass murder of all humanoids in Taras, his name is Mach Manatee. As his name suggests he is a Manatee based golem with humanoid body parts. He has two forms, the first is one where he keeps a mass of sea water in his storage container, in other words his entire torso, while in this form Mach Manatee moves slow but is extremely hard to damage. His second form is converting the sea water into steam, it super heats his body and gives him extreme speed. During this form it would be wise to hit him with any water magic we may have, after a few hits it should damage his systems, forcing him into an inbetween state, mild speed, next to no defenses. That will be our best bet on killing Mach Manatee."

He let it all sink in before continuing on, "Mach Manatee also has four types of Battle Golems. The first one is encased completely in steel and made to resemble a crab with spikes on it's shoulders and claws. It is incredibly hard to hurt physically but can be ripped apart by magic. Be constantly aware of it's spikes as it can fire them off to use as projectiles or crush you with it's claws. The second type is the 'Dragon Fly' suicide bomber. Small, fast, deadly. Ranged attacks would be preferred, but they are very frail, if you move fast enough you can cut one in half and avoid the explosion, but I would not suggest it. The third one is made to resemble the mermen of the deep, their armor consists of a bismuth quick-silver fusion. It has high resistance to magic but melee attacks can break it's armor rather easily. The last combatant may not be there at the moment, it is an elite unit, my greatest enemy, Omega. If Omega is there, we must retreat. I repeat, we stand no chance against Omega, his Magic-Absorbtion Field and Mana Arm-Cannon will kill us. It is very unlikely he is there, but there is always a chance."

With that said he waited a few moments before finishing it all off with a simple question, "Do any of you have any questions? I will answer them while we sail." With that said, he handed the map to Gobi and waited for their questions.

"Oh, well, good," Goby huffed, the spirit he bolstered for a fight left the deflate on its own. He worked to at least keep a stoic air about him as Alphfa explained the encounter ahead. Their nemesis named themselves Mach Manatee.

Mach. Manatee.

He fought so hard to keep a straight face at that. Really? They needed to fear someone naming themselves Mach Manatee? Out of all the creatures in the sea, they chose one of the slowest, friendliest, least threatening ones? The closest land equivalent he could think of was something like Charged Cow, mostly because he heard the manatee compared to cows, whatever they looked like.

Mach Manatee. Heh.

He focused more when handed a map, something he could actually read. He'd need to take it downstairs to compare to other nautical maps he had, ones far more complete, but he had a good idea of where their bearings laid.

"Ah assume yoo have a plan for breathing down there?" Goby asked as he continued to peruse the map, noting what features the Taras port authority's cartographers drew. "Ah can take the ship down there, but she's not a fighter, just a fisher, and Ah only have one spare breathing mask mesself. Ah can't help with breath beyond that.

"Other than that, Ah can head off whenever yoo're ready, Mister Alphfa."

Luna snorted at Peytons question. Telepathic communication was not the chosen mode, though it did resemble it to some degree. At one time she had used modifications to a spell she knew to create a voice that others could understand, but since that time she had become far more sublte and skilled with the working of sorcery. Her voice was a complex and yet simplistic manipulation of raw mana alone, unaligned, non-elemental. Her voice was purely magical, and therefore did not obey all of the normal rules (such as having to be 'heard' by the ears, or having to be able to breath to speak).

No. I am not telepathic, nor have I ever had the ability. I am mute, incapable of normal vocalization....but I am a powerful sorceress, and have other means of achieving the same thing. She smiled at Peyton brightly, hoping that cleared any confusion and potential misgivings up.

She listened to Alpha and shook her head slowly. Where they would be fighting was hardly ideal for her, though she could still perform much of her unique abilities despite the submarine nature of the fight. Water magic, alas, was not something she had taken any time to learn, though she did have its close cousin in spades. Thanks to an ignorant hermit on a high mountain. Her concern also lay in the notion of being able to breath - unless the location they were headed to was some structure filled with air, she would be absolutely useless in this fight.

I worry over the breathing thing myself. Also, I do not know much in the way of elemental water....but I have ice in spades. I am sure that will be equally effective?

I shook my head at Luna, letting her know I understood what she said. I then turned my attention to Alpha, as he described the enemy and the best way to handle them all.

"I don't really have any water magic, however, if we could get them in close enough I do have Mire which turns the surrounding ground into a sweltering quagmire. The ground will become thick, sticky mud that provides almost no solid footing. Those who step in this area will start to sink into the muck and could potentially get trapped within the swamp. Perhaps, that would be useful." I looked around at everyone for their input.

"Also, I don't have any ranged weapons, I tend to be close up and personal," I brought out my two knives and did some fancy tricks to show my ability with them.

"I really hope we can find some solutions to the breathing problem, otherwise I feel like this is going to be a short fight and not in our favor." I put my knives away and waited for any valuable input.

This new adventure seemed to be more complicated that I had anticipated. That strange random note didn't mention any of this. I still hadn't figured out who led me here, I had to find out who. One way or another. Paranoia was setting in and I was beginning to feel uneasy. If anything, hopefully this task will fill my pockets with gold and make me one more step closer to getting to the Colton family.

Alpha shook his head, "The Rogue Golems run off a special ancient magical formula, it's called the 'Elementessi'. It gives them a very specific weakness and unusual strength, while ice magic will have some effect, it will not be as strong as water magic. Don't ask me how it works, because I don't know, when I was created I was not given the Elementessi formula, just information about it so I could better combat the Rogue Golems. Also we will not need to worry about breathing. The inside of the base will have a docking area that can fill up with water and drain the water. They still need oxygen inside for the drow slaves and researchers, so it is very unlikely of them to flood the entire base, he would anger Omega if he did that."

Alpha took a few steps away and turned to the ocean, "To Omega... this is all just a game to keep him amused long enough to figure out how he wants to kill me. After we defeat Mach Manatee, I will destroy the base from the inside using my trump card, the Giga Attack. My helmet has several gem stones embedded in the main crystal, these can hold elemental energies and release them as a beam of energy. I will rip through it with my power and follow your retreat. Now we must leave, Captain, set sail for our destination."

Alpha stayed topside until it was time to dive. The trip felt short to Alpha... but he had stood in a single place for a few weeks without moving once, so a few hour long sailing venture was nothing compared to that. Alpha directed them to the open dock, which closed behind them. The sea water drained from the area, allowing them to go back on deck. What waited for them outside was Mach Manatee and an entire platoon of soldiers, a mixed unit of the Mermen and Crabmen.

Mach Manatee looked like one would suspect, his face was that of a manatee made of steel, his body was a dark brown and obviously made of leather and steel, but it was made to look large like an obese man, and his legs were long like a runner's. He let out a short laugh, sounding more like walrus than anything before speaking, "Well if it isn't Big Brother Alpha! Come to attack us I see, with some help to! But you know I could lend you a hand if you lend me one."

Alpha raised an eyebrow only to flinch when a blast of steam came out of Mach Manatee's body. There was a spray of blood from Alpha's left arm... or what was left of it. Mach Manatee was back in his spot already, his body glowing bright red, a trail of blood was between him and Alpha has he used Alpha's dismembered arm to tap his chin, "Horf horf horf! That was a good joke!" Mach's thin form still had the long legs, but the leather and steel torso had become more steel than anything, the leather was now tightly wrapped around him to decrease wind resistance, but his face was still the same. He crushed the arm between his two large hands, dropping the crumpled mass to the ground as he darted off, shouting behind him, "Hork! Kill'em and destroy that ratty ship! I'm going to my quarters!" His laugh echoed down the hall.

Alpha simply stood there, his body could not properly transmit the amount of pain he was in. He let out a shout of such extreme pain that even the enemy golems flinched. Alpha fell to his knees and placed a hand on his empty socket. his eyes were abnormally focused, his voice was filled with pain as he spoke, "Ha... fire. Cauterize it, need fire, kill the golems." He held onto it the best he could, the pain was almost enough to make him pass out.

"Got one better," Goby shouted, reaching into his sidebag. The parts of the voyage he hadn't spent piloting, he spent hiding belowdeck at the old alchemical station making a few of the powders and pastes he knew, referencing the notes The Midnight Sun's old captain left behind. The one he retrieved now he sprinkled out as a powder, but it mixed with Alpha's blood and congealed, hardening within seconds to form a watertight seal. "Won't heal it, but yoo won't bleed out."

He capped the tube quickly and, with it still in his fist, focused, and summoned a small globe of water which he focused around himself. So, that was the Mach Manatee. "Shouldn't have made himself such a joke name," he muttered. That steam happened so suddenly. If could tell when it was coming, he could defend against it, but he couldn't fight what he couldn't predict.

The best he could do was shoot a blast of air toward the sea cow and his lackeys, hoping to disorient them, at the very least. "Anyone mind if Ah blind them a bit?" he called out, uncertain how else to share his plan with his companions.

Used Liquid Bandage and Propel.
