Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Inaryla was making her way through Norwood, heading for the infirmary that she'd heard about. She had two major reasons for heading this way. The first was that although she had used her healing skills effectively over an extended period of time, she felt that she had much more to learn. Her other reason was that she thought that someone there might have a better solution to the fatigue she'd been feeling over the past few days. This fatigue was starting to worry her since it was causing her to lose that awareness that was so essential to one living alone in the forest. Inaryla didn't fully understand, but the fatigue was the result of having to be alert almost 24/7 for an extended period of time, which had not been good for her stamina reserves.

She walked into the infirmary and asked the first person she met where the lead healer was. She explained that she was hear to learn more about the art of healing, but it was apparent in her face and demeanor--though she was not aware of it--that she was fighting to keep herself awake and alert. She was the type of person who had to be alert at all times, even when she was in a relatively safe area, something that was essential when deep in the forest but wasteful in safe areas.

Lyvian was tending to her garden in the greenhouse, checking on her herbs and other plants to make sure they were healthy and growing. It was a daily routine for her, as she hadn't taught anyone else at the infirmary how to take care of them. Her long, blond hair was brushed neatly and kept along the center of her back. Her wings were folded tightly behind her as she didn't want to accidentally knock anything over. One of her students soon walked up to the entrance of the greenhouse and told her about a visitor. Visitors didn't come very often but when they did, it was usually a big job.

She walked out of the greenhouse to meet with the visitor, and immediately noticed her fatigue. She tried not to worry too much about it until she got to talk with her more, though she did keep a watchful, concerned eye on her while they talked. "Hello, I'm Lyvian, the master healer here." she introduced herself with a polite bow, "What brings you here?" Even though her student had mentioned this visitor wanted to learn about healing, Lyvian wanted to hear it from her. She didn't lead the visitor out toward the docks like she usually did with potential students, in fear of her collapsing into the lake. They remained inside, where Lyvian could more easily direct her to a bed to get some rest. Once the visitor introduced herself, Lyvian led her over toward the beds that were meant for students (there weren't very many, due to it only being a medium-sized house) and sat on one, offering her to sit on another adjacent to her. The beds for students were much softer and more comfortable than the ones for patients.

Inaryla found someone here, presumably a student or a helper, who led her indoors to the main hall. This place was large enough for a decent number of patients, as well as the staff to run the place. It wasn't huge, but it did the job. Definitely a place to keep in mind if she found someone injured beyond her own healing skills.

Inaryla was led to the master healer, who introduced herself as Lyvian. Lyvian also asked Inaryla to state her reason for coming here. Inaryla replied, "I am Inaryla, and I'm here because I want to learn more about the art of healing."

Lyvian then led Inaryla to what was presumably the student quarters. Lyvian sat on a bed, and when Lyvian suggested she do so, Inaryla did the same. To break the silence, Inaryla asked, "How busy are things around here?"

Inaryla continued to flatly refuse to fall asleep, keeping herself awake through sheer willpower. She wasn't even aware that she was doing this, but watching her surroundings was so a part of her that she continued to do so. She would pretty much need to be told to get some rest and relax.

Lyvian smiled, glad that it was still the same answer. "I would absolutely love to help you learn more, but I believe you need to get some rest. Things are not usually very busy. I get more injured animals coming through here than anything else. Poor things get hit by hunters who can't aim properly. Right now though, it's fairly safe and quiet. I highly recommend you take this bed and rest for as long as you need. Darling, you look horribly tired. Please let me know if there's anything I can get for you?"

She was eager to help Inaryla learn more about healing, but first, it was imperative that she get some rest. It was always best for the mind and soul to be well rested, no matter the circumstances. "All who stay here know that they can rest whenever they need to. I keep it quiet here for that reason. The only way that there will ever be noise is if there's an emergency and multiple healers are required for the job. That's only happened once in the few months since I've had this place built. So, you have nothing to worry about here. I also have some undercover security for this place, so we'll have plenty of warning if anything does come our way." she smiled sweetly at her as she stood up. She waited to see if Inaryla needed anything before leaving.

Lyvian said that she would be glad to teach Inaryla about healing, but followed up by telling her that she needed some rest first because she looked tired. Inaryla wanted to protest, but she realized that she was tired. Lyvian even went so far as to mention that the place had undercover security, meaning that there was nothing to worry about. Normally, Inaryla would want to verify that statement, but now that she was aware of how tired she was, she didn't care. She just laid down in the bed and fell asleep in seconds without bothering about covers or the fact that she was wearing outdoor clothes that were not meant for sleeping in.

Inaryla slept through the rest of the day and didn't wake up until early in the next morning, just as people were starting to wake up. She felt well rested, though she didn't realize that she was still pretty drained on a deeper level, such that it would probably take her weeks to fully recover. She was in a condition to learn about healing techniques and magic and to help out around the place, but it would not be a good idea for her to be out alone in the forest for a while. She also would need more sleep than she was used to getting.

When Inaryla woke, she started to wander the building and soon made it out onto the grounds. Her movements were completely silent, though she was making no real effort to hide.

Lyvian was a bit surprised to see how quickly Inaryla fell asleep. She grabbed a blanket from a cabinet that she used to store extra blankets and sheets, and gently placed it overtop of the now sleeping Inaryla. If she got too warm, of course she'd be able to take the blanket off. It wasn't very cold in this area, but the body often had trouble keeping itself warm while asleep or while exhausted in any way.

Lyvian was always the first awake, and always spent time with her pets outside before starting the day. She had a Gloam Kestrel, a Gyrfalcon as her familiar, and a White Thumb Stag. She was standing in front of the stag, gently stroking his face and talking to him when Inaryla made it out onto the grounds. Even though her movements were silent, Lyvian was able to catch her scent on the air thanks to her werewolf senses. She turned toward Inaryla, moved to stand at the side of the stag's neck, and greeted her. "Good morning, Inaryla. It's nice to see you awake. I'd like you to meet Hersh." she looked up into the stag's eyes, petting his neck as she spoke. The stag was fairly calm and would allow Inaryla to pet him, if she had the desire. "He's one of my pets that I keep around here. He's very kind to everyone unless they show themselves to be a threat. I strongly advise that you do not try to ride him though, I have not trained him for that."

Inaryla found Lyvian outside of the building, and at her side was, of all things, a stag. The beast looked like it was powerful, but it also seemed pretty gentle. Inaryla had been in the forest long enough to know that she was in no danger from this one as long as she treated the animal with respect.

Inaryla moved up to the animal, near its neck and on the opposite side from Lyvian, and gently stroked its hide with her hand. At the same time, she whispered a few words in Elvish, telling Hersh that she was a friend and intended to do no harm to either him or Lyvian. The Ranger didn't know whether Lyvian knew Elvish, but she didn’t really care whether she understood her words.

After a few minutes, she asked Lyvian, "What will you be teaching me today? Also, when and where is breakfast?" Inaryla wanted to learn, though she'd probably made this clear to the master healer already by her previous words and actions. Of course, Lyvian didn't know about what Inaryla had been doing for the past several months, which was both the reason for her fatigue and her motivation for coming here to learn.

The Stag nudged Inaryla gently with its muzzle, showing he accepted her respect, but otherwise didn't move much, apart from lowering its head to grab a mouthful of grass. Lyvian smiled at Inaryla, having understood what she said in Elvish. It wasn't very often that she heard that language anymore, so she always appreciated it every time it sang in her ears.

When Inaryla asked about what they'd be doing today and about breakfast, she stepped away from Hersh and toward the docks. "Breakfast is always served on the docks around this time. It should be ready in a few minutes if you're hungry. While we wait, I can explain what I usually do for the first day."

When they got to the docks, there weren't very many people out here. In total, there were three other students, and one cook. One of the students was helping the cook carry the food out to the table on the docks, and there were a few choices of places to sit. This included a couple benches on the docks, or along the edge of the dock to dangle their feet just above the lake water. Lyvian always sat on the edge of the dock with her back to the water so that she could stretch her wings a little bit. Once Inaryla chose a place to sit, she would introduce her to the other students there, and the cook.

"The redhead over there is Morianna, and beside her is Rook. The blondie on the other bench there is Riley. She uses her abilities with water to aid in her learning about healing magic. Creatures from all walks of life are welcome here, and I'm always open for a new challenge when meeting new kinds of magic. The cook's name is Danielle, but she prefers Danny. She has taught me a few things about the herbs here. There's always something new that can be learned." she took a breath, and let Inaryla speak if she had something to say.

A few minutes later, she continued. "What we do today depends on what exactly you want to learn about? Do you want to become a master at healing magic like me, or is there something you simply want to improve on? It doesn't matter to me, I just need to know where to begin. Do you know any healing spells already?"

Lyvian proceeded to tell Inaryla about the area and what to expect here, including that breakfast would be served outside and in just a few minutes. Inaryla also listened to the names, though she wasn't certain she would remember them all. She went with the master healer to the docks and sat down beside her, not missing the fact that Lyvian was stretching her wings.

Inaryla smiled at Lyvian and said, "There is always something new to be learned."

Lyvian then asked her what she knew and what she wanted to learn. Inaryla considered the question for a moment and said, "I know some basic healing spells, and I have a good idea of how to use them, but I have no real training. I want to learn how to properly use my healing magic to its greatest effect. I would also like to learn a few more spells if you know them."

Inaryla wasn't sure if she should tell Lyvian, but what she really wanted to learn was how to raise the dead. She knew that some people didn't like that idea, but there were others who wouldn't mind.

Lyvian was happy to hear about this. It had been a while since she had gone over the basics of healing, and she was happy to talk about it. She smiled, clapping her hands together excitedly a couple times and said "Goodie! Well, a good place to start is getting a focus for your magic, such as a wand. If you don't have one, I'd be glad to let you borrow mine. It's attuned to life and healing magic, so it will help a great deal in getting started."

Soon, breakfast was served. The cook walked around with the plates piled along her arm, and handed them out in order. Lyvian let her wings relax behind her as she accepted her plate from the cook, and ate slowly. It was a simple breakfast, containing eggs, oatmeal, sliced ham and a single slice of tomato. Forks were provided, but no knives. "I hope you like the food." Lyvian said between bites. "It's simple meals but good for you."

Once they were finished eating, including the cook, one of the students gathered their plates and helped with the cleanup. Lyvian remained sitting on the dock, and looked up at the sky for a moment and closed her eyes. When she opened them again, she spoke "Ah, just in time." she stood up. "Come with me, we have our first patient of the day."

"I have a familiar, he's a Gyrfalcon. Basically a very large Falcon, but he has white and grey feathers. We're able to share sight with each other, so when something is approaching the infirmary, he's able to let me know. There's a fox that's limping toward the entrance. With the animals of course, we have to be very careful to not scare them away or startle them. I'm the only one that takes care of the animals around here because the other students don't quite have that affinity with strange animals. Anyway, the foxes are usually very cute and easy to handle, so you'll be okay. You did an amazing job with Hersh earlier, so I don't doubt that you'll do good here."

They reached the front gardens of the infirmary, and the fox could be spotted in the middle of the open field before the house. Lyvian approached it slowly, but went a little quicker than she normally would. "Awe, you poor little guy." she sat on the ground a few feet away from the fox, and gestured for him to come closer. "You have to let injured animals come to you if they're able. Otherwise, they'll make a fuss. This little guy has come here a couple times before. I think the other foxes or another animal is bullying him. I'd like you to try healing his leg and anything else you can see that might be wrong." Lyvian offered a wand to Inaryla if she didn't have one, and watched quietly. She would answer any questions that were asked.

The first thing Lyvian mentioned was that it would be good for Inaryla to get a focus for her magic. That seemed a bit odd, since she was already comfortable with using magic without one. She said, "I can get a wand, but at the moment, I'm plenty comfortable with using magic without one. I'm not sure it's completely necessary."

The breakfast was simple, but for Inaryla, that was just as well. She didn't need a fancy breakfast, and she was used to making her own meals, which usually were fairly simple to make. She smiled and said, "The food is good."

After breakfast, Lyvian announced that the first patient of the day had arrived. Inaryla was a bit surprised to hear that the patient was a fox, but she did have some experience with healing animals. Inaryla went with Lyvian to the grounds near the front entrance, and a moment later, the fox limped onto the grounds. Apparently, Lyvian knew this fox already from when she'd healed it previously. Inaryla was asked to heal the animal's leg and anything else that might be wrong with it.

She sat next to Lyvian and gestured for the fox to come while saying, softly, in elvish, "Come here. I'm here to fix you up. I am a friend." The fox limped up to Inaryla, at which point she took the animal into her lap and began looking it over. The leg definitely looked broken, and there were a few visible marks on the fox's hide that suggested that the injury had been no accident. A closer inspection revealed bruising that was not visible through the fur but that could be felt and that was undeniably painful to the fox.

Inaryla did take the wand, but she wasn't quite sure how to use it, so she cast her healing spell without it as she was used to doing. Her incantation was spoken softly in a way that comforted the animal, and she set the leg into a good position while she was casting the spell. She didn’t strictly need to set broken bones, but she'd found that doing so made healing more efficient. Inaryla gently rested her hand on the injured leg as she completed the spell, allowing the healing energy to flow into the creature and directing it to the specific injuries.

Inaryla took another look at the animal after the spell was completed, and she sensed no more injuries. The fox was healed, but it stayed with Inaryla for the time being. She was content to just sit there and comfort the animal. She wasn't in a particular rush to do anything.
