Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

They arrived in the forests without incident. It was a three day trek from the city of Taras to their destination, hidden deep within the centre of the forest, one that had taken a toll on Tyrath much more than it seemed to affect his bodyguard Cameron, for Tyrath was used to flying around the mountain skies of Helspeth. Walking was an unknown exercise for him and it showed by the pain in his legs and chest. After only two hours of walking, Tyrath's legs felt as if they were burning all around. Another two after that and his breathing was more heavy. The human body really was not designed for punishment, nor long term travel. How in the material planes did humans survive this long in this realm?

Tyrath tried to keep his complaining to a minimum, for they were alone in the forest and Cameron was armed with weapons. Now and again, something did slip out of Tyrath's mouth... a grumble about the body he was stuck in, how weak the limbs were. But in truth, Tyrath was grateful for Cameron's assistance in helping him with passage into the forests. So much so that Tyrath had offered to vouch for Cameron and ask for the Elves permission for him to study in the library, an honour that had either not sunken in just yet. Or perhaps Cameron did not understand what it was that Tyrath was trying to give him? Humans did have an uncanny knack of being ignorant to the world around them.

On the third night of travelling, they had made camp. The tents were up and the fire was lit. It was a crisp night with the stars illuminating the blackened night sky. The tree branches stretched like gnarled hands, reaching towards the sky as they clawed for the very stars but never quite reaching them. Tyrath had sat down upon the ground and took his gaze from the skies as he looked deep within the fire, watching the embers burn and dance. There was something calming about watching a fire burn and Tyrath was certainly caught in the fire's calming state. He began to think about his home, the mountains of Kaarth, the endless skies of the Dragon City of Helspeth. Tyrath had not told Cameron the reasons why he had been sent down amongst the humans and he had decided to keep it to himself. He had hoped that if the Elves had the knowledge that he sought, Tyrath could prostrate himself before the elders and be allowed back into his race.

Tyrath did not say anything to Cameron, for he was lost in his thoughts of home. To the outside observer however, Tyrath's face was cold and solid like stone. Emotionless and almost impossible to discern what he was thinking...

The three days walk with the Star-Fallen had almost been annoying. The human body that Tyrath was in, had no strength and no endurance it seemed. The only thing that kept it going was his pride. The man had asked the mercenary about human's tolerance and such. Cameron did try to explain that human needed to train, to move, to strengthen, to even feel pain to get stronger, faster and tougher. Then there was the options of horses to ride. Had he known, the mercenary would have rented two of them to avoid so much hidden complaining.

He had help the stranger so often, that he was reminded that honour would give him forgotten and ancient knowledge. Well, what could it be? Cameron felt like he would read a book about magic and history. Not that he disliked it, but felt it kinda useless. Even if he knew about arcane secrets for having hang out with an academy of mages, and befriended their leaders. Still, if he ever had a mage in his League, he might gave it to that person. Though, the third day came at a end, in their small camp set up mainly by the mercenary, since the star-fallen was clearly not aware how to do so, Cameron took a break on a long facing his traveling partners. Well, client so much to that point.

Tyrath's mind seemed away. As if left his body for another realm, another age. Well, Cameron had been silent about the being that was Tyrath before his exile, but he felt like he could ask. They had share time together, he hope the stranger had placed some trust in him.

''Say, Tyrath... What... Were you before being human? What did you do?''

When Cameron asked his question, Tyrath prepared to respond with a biting remark about minding his own business. But then he stopped and thought for a second. What harm would it do to tell him just the basics of his situation? Perhaps Cameron might learn something from the encounter or at least be entertained somewhat. And so Tyrath looked over at Cameron and began his tale.

"Though I may not look like it currently, I am in fact a Golden Dragon," Tyrath explained, "The most noble and powerful of all dragon kind. I was born and lived in the mountain realm of Kaarth, in a city called Helspeth. It was here that we Dragons lived and watched over the planes. Our job was a simple one. We would watch over the realms and, should we detect or see any evil power, we would intervene and protect the realm.

Tyrath stopped for a moment to think about what to say next. He couldn't possibly tell Cameron the reason why he was placed down into this body. But he didn't want to lie either, for that was unbecoming of the dragon. In the end, Tyrath settled on honesty...

"The reasons why I have been sent here are complicated and I do not want to explain them. But once I contact the leader of my race, it should not matter... I will soon leave this realm and return to my own with my own kind. I do not think I enjoy being in this realm, stuck in this body."

For a moment, the mercenary stared at Tyrath with a stunned look in his face. Well, some details were understable now. Walking is slower, humans are smaller. Comparing humans to dragons, was like comparing insects to a bird. Multiplying more of a threat in mass groups. While the bird flied over it all. Colorful, majestic. And could disrupt the small civilisation of insect by it's sheer presence. Though, the star-fallen dragon had some complicated situation to settle his exile, the body who never trained did indeed not help.

''I believe you, well. I will try to help you. If it takes time that you dragons thinks it short but is almost a human life. I sure would not mind your great wisdom around.'' The commander took out of the iron pan, rabbit meat and handed some to his traveling partner. ''Here, not as great as the food at the tavern back in Taras, but still fill the spot.'' As Cameron munched his meat, a question came to mind. ''When you speak of evil power, what kind are we talking about?''

Cameron had a feeling, his instincts warned him hearing the words of the dragon in human form in front of him. Was the Realm protector, sent to him by fate? To protect him from a great evil in-coming in Imythess?

The fact that Cameron believed Tyrath was both of great relief and slight annoyance to the star-fallen. Were all humans so quick to believe everything they had just heard? But at least it made things easier for Tyrath for he had absolutely no way of proving his draconic origin. Humans were a funny species. Cameron prepared the food and Tyrath tasted the rabbit strew. It was adequate and it did fill his stomach though, as Cameron did warn him, it was no-where near as good as the food in the tavern.

And then Cameron asked Tyrath the question of what kind of evil the dragons were protecting the realms from. Tyrath looked at Cameron with a very serious look, for the question was not easily answered.

"What kind of evil, you ask?" he said, "Evil that is beyond what you can comprehend... I know that humans have fought their share of people who oppress and destroy, as have nearly all other races. But there exists many worlds, many planes of existence, beyond this one. And there is evil that your mind would not be able to comprehend. To demonstrate how tiny this realm is... imagine everything you know of this world in a grain of sand. That is how tiny this world is..."

Cameron listened to the explications of the Star-Fallen Exiled Dragon about evil. Evil has many form, but it's true human may not comprehend it all. They knowledge, their lack of power, could not allow them so. To become realm guardians? To be as powerful as gold dragons? Who could do so? Perhaps some chosen ones, with magic and all that. It's true then, the theory he heard. Each borned Dragon unleashed magical arcane energy upon the world. Take them all out, and you have a magicless world. But magic was incredibly strong. Allowing one to become an undead, to resurrect the fallen one. To modify nature and the weather. To call upon curses and magical enhancement on body and weapons. So what was a dragon in full power is able to do?

So in summary, there was outer realms, evil ones. Like hell, and the abyss, that were threatening the other realms. But so much sand? Dimensionnal parallel universe? Maybe where one he had kept his wife. Maybe one that he finds peace, instead on living on struggles to keep his mind busy on the sense of life. He shook his head, grinned a bit. He felt stupid. Why was he thinking of the past still again? She was dead, by his sword, her and their child. Cameron had grew out of that still, yet it kept haunting him. He was back in another continent, leading a league of mercenary, with an empire on his back. He had things to do on the moment. And none of that could change the past.

''What's the biggest threat you have faced?'' If there was something dragons wished not to face again, the mercenary wondered what it could be. Something worst then demons? Maybe evil dragons? He was curious, after all. Tomorrow was perhaps their last day before Tyrath get back home. His wisdom and knowledge would have been a good asset though.

Tyrath almost laughed at the question Cameron had posed. The only thing that stopped him was the fact that he had to remind himself that Cameron had no knowledge of Draconic Society and, once again, his question was borne not of stupidity but ignorance.

"I have fought no-one," Tyrath said with a smile, "For I am only 864 years old and therefore not considered an Elder. Only Elder Dragons are permitted to learn the knowledge needed to protect the realms, Dragons who have lived for 1,000 years or more. I forget how short human life-spans are, for you average lifespan is 70 years is it not? That is a blink of an eye to any Dragon..."

Tyrath finished his rabbit stew and placed his bowl and spoon down on the ground. He did so very loudly, far loudly than what was needed of him. There was a reason to this, for whilst they had been talking about Tyrath and his past, the young dragon had noticed that the wildlife had grown silent. This meant only one thing...

Before he could finish that thought, the bushes erupted and several figures burst forth to surround Cameron and Tyrath. They also dropped from the trees, landing silently on the ground before drawing forth their bows and aiming at the pair of intruders. Altogether, there was around ten elves all pointing their bows and arrows at the two of them.

Tyrath remained still and waited for their leader to approach. It was always best to let Elves speak first so that Tyrath could speak on their terms. And so the young dragon waited...

So, elder dragons lived for atleast a thousand years!? That was impressive, the mercenary could understand why it was just but the blink of an eye for those creatures. Still, fighting no one? What, were they doing during all that time? Learning? Was there some kind of academy for dragons? Cameron was a bit curious, what did their society looked like? What about the other dragons? Were they any different? So many questions, yet, he knew he would not have any of them. Something was definitly off.

As soon as the star-fallen dragon stop speaking, the silence of the area was heavy. On his guard, the commander slowly led his hand to his sheat and at that moment, he could hear the tension of a bowstring. His eyes moved to the shadows, ten individuals. Elves. Well, things could turn out ugly. He clenched his jaw and stayed silent. Tyrath was the one wanting to be hear, he surely would know what to say to them. Even though Cameron's knowledge in elven language was good, he still had the common's accent quite strong as he spoke.

He raised his hands as a sign of surrender. There was no need for aggression and violence, it was far from the goal and need to be here.

Cameron wisely said nothing and held his hands up in a sign of surrender. Tyrath did no such thing and merely sat there, waiting for someone other than Cameron to speak. One of the Elves walked closer, his bow drawn and an arrow ready to let fly within a moments notice. Though he was dressed in the same green tunics and grey trousers as the other Elves, he walked with a certain stiffness that only men of authority would walk with. The leader of the party cocked his head at Tyrath and spoke...

"A bold claim you make... claiming to be one of the dragonkin," spoke the Elven leader, his voice though soft like the wind, contained a sharpness within it that betrayed his deadly nature.
"But why would a dragonkin dress himself in this human shell? And why would he come so far into the territory of the Elves?"

What happened next was an event that had not happened in over ten thousand years, nor would it happen again for that time. Tyrath spoke, but not in a language that any human ear could understand nor comprehend. To any other ear, it would sound like a jumbled growling sound of various syllables which would not match the movement of Tyrath's lips. But to those who knew... it was something different entirely.
The Elven leader's eyes widened in shock, his arms slowly falling as he witnessed Tyrath speak in the tongue of the First Dragons. The rest of the Elven party simply looked on at their leader with a mixture of worry and confusion.

The Elven leader dropped his weapons and stood agape for a few moments before he managed to find his voice. When he did, his voice quivered with excitement.
"I heard such tales... but never did I imagine I would ever hear what I have just heard. I believe your claims dragonkin, for only a Dragon could speak that."

Tyrath stood up and looked at the Elven leader, speaking to him again but this time in human tongue.

"I come with my friend to seek the knowledge of the Elves," spoke Tyrath, "and I humbly ask to speak to the leader of your village."

The Elven leader nodded once and then beckoned his kin to lower their weapons.

"Of course," he said, "It will be my honour. Please follow me..."

Tyrath nodded in appreciation and followed the Elven leader as he began to walk deeper into the forest, looking over his shoulder behind him towards Cameron and saying...
"Come with me Cameron, our journey is almost complete..."

As expected of someone who had not seen Tyrath fall from the sky and leaving a crater behind him, also seeing his first time to eat. It was understandable that it was hard to believe, but Cameron knew a man, well, dragon, like the star-fallen would not lie. He has a code and a pride not allowing himself tie. But to hear the ancient draconic language was quite surprising. All the others elves were looking to their leader for answers, and the mercenary internally wished for some too, answers that could keep their bodies to be pincushionned.

It was a bit annoying though, seeing how much respects was shown to elves who threaten the dragonkin, while human helped him and was judge hardly. Was humankind considered that much primitive in the eyes of the dragon? Just because they have a shorter life span? Or was he simply more respectful because they were threatened? The human doubted it. Which still felt a bit of deception in his heart. He'd have to prove the worthiness of humanity on his own. Well, atleast he was invited to tag along. Would have been a pain to be turned back because he was human.

For now, he stayed silent as he looked over to the elves escorting them. He was not one to talk much when he was in unknown territory. Of course, he never had been to Norwood before. But for the ancient knowledge he was about to have access. Maybe something to help him againts the imperial conclave agents. It was so strange, so mysterious. It was both exciting, and stressful. He felt like destiny had placed him on a strange path, placing a dragon in his path, letting him build the mercenary league. What was left in store?

They were led towards the deep centre of the forest via a path only the Elves could know of. The trees grew larger and larger the deeper they went, the branches stretched like outstretched hands grasping towards the sky and blocking the sunlight. After a few minutes, the Elven leader signalled everyone to halt and Tyrath looked towards the front of the group. They had arrived in front of a large tree, the largest Tyrath had seen on a material plane. The trunk of the tree was as wide as small building and there were hundreds, if not thousands of branches that grew from the tree. But it was at the base of the trunk where the real wonders were, for there was a gap in the trunk shaped much like a portal or gateway. Tyrath knew that they had arrived at one of the many secret villages the Elves must have had dotted around the Forests.

The party leader looked over towards Tyrath, completely ignoring Cameron (which was understandable, thought Tyrath) and said... "This is the entrance to our village Dragonkin. On behalf of our kingdom, I invite you into our homes..."

He then bowed and gestured that Tyrath should walk forward into the tree itself. Tyrath smiled and bowed in respect to the Elven party leader and walked into the portal. He continued to walk forward, even when the tingling sensation throughout his body began... for he knew that he was being transported into the city of the Elves. When he saw light at the end of the tunnel, Tyrath walked towards it and emerged.

He found himself in a corridor made of stone, with barred iron doors on each side. Strange, thought Tyrath, this looked almost like a...
Oh no...
Before he could fully comprehend his situation, Tyrath felt a blunt force hit the back of his head and he fell forward into unconscious, hitting the stone floor with a thud. Then he was carried by the Elven Guards and thrown into one of the rooms that were sealed with the barred iron doors. Completely unconscious, Tyrath was now a prisoner deep within the Elven City of Norwood Forest.

The mercenary commander followed the group further in the forest. In a way, Cameron felt lucky First time in the Norwood Villages and already so deep. It seems being dragonkin is quite the importance for the elves. Though when he saw this tree that had to be the most impressive in Imythess, if not of all Chaon, the human whistled his impression, attracting to him some glares. Weird, they payed him attention only for a second, like he was nothing at all. He took to himself to ask Mistalee about elven nobilities and their secrets. And this tree.

The elven squad leader leader and welcomed Tyrath only into the city. The man was not paying too much at their destination, but more at the movement of the elves. Something was not right. It was too quick, an elf slammed his hammer on the back of the star-Fallen.
''TYRATH!!'' It was too late to warn him, he was hiself in danger, he knew, and there was no way out, hundreds of arrows were pointed at him. He heard Bruce cried behind him, someone used a quarter staff on the dog and rendered him uncounscious. ''Shi....!!'' PAF! A solid hook from his left.

Cameron played possum and felt dragged and slammed into one of the cell room, he heard the two other bodies being thrown in their cell aswell, What was the meaning of this. But damn his jaw hurts, a bit stronger and indeed would have been ronger, the elf might have Knocked out the man. The human knew the others would not get up anytime soon, so he stayed on the ground, listening to the jailors, and waiting for Tyrath to wake up. What were they planning? Elven Knowledge? Yeah right. Though, the mercenary could not help but grin to himself: Poor Tyrath, the elves made a worst welcome to him then the humans did.

He was flying. Flying through the clouds of Helspeth as free as any one of his race. Below him were the twin mountains of Yjorn-Brukem and Vran, where the younger dragons were hatched and learnt their beginner knowledge. Tyrath looked at the mountains and smiled to himself as he flew through another cloud. No longer was he trapped in that human shell, now he was free. In his true form, he was a majestic golden scaled dragon with scales of the brightest golden colour and a wingspan that cast shadows over cities.

But then he felt it, the sensation of being pushed and squeezed into a tight space. Tyrath closed his eyes and let out a scream of fear. When he opened them, he found himself back in the human body again. No... no, this couldn't be. Tyrath began to panic as he looked over his human shell, wondering what was going on. It was only a few moments when he realised something.

How was he still flying?

As if on cue, Tyrath began to fall. He fell through the clouds, fell through the skies, fell through the mists and fell through the darkness. Just before he hit the bottom of wherever he was falling to, Tyrath woke up with a jolt. It took a second for him to remember what had happened. The throbbing pain in the back of his head quickly began to set in and Tyrath winced as he touched where his head hurt. Those blasted Elves, what on Earth were they playing at?

Tyrath rose up and looked around at the prison cell he was incarcerated in. He ran up to the bars and began to shake them as he shouted out to anyone who could hear him.

"Let me out of here!" He shouted, "What is the meaning of this? Why have you taken me prisoner?"

And then he remembered that Cameron was also with him. Was he also hurt... or worse?

"Cameron? Are you there?" he shouted out, "What is happening?"
