Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Prerequisites Checklist:

  • Who am I? Ozan? Nozan!
  • Is this character active, at least a few weeks old and unlikely to be removed in the near future? Yes
  • Do I have at least 150 gold sitting on this character's account? Yes ish

Why should you accept this custom PrC concept?
In-character, Keelin belonged to a religious sect in which they believed that through years of intense trial and mastery of their so-called "Three Great Aspirations," they can become closer to the divine beings and obtain supernatural powers. Keelin is supposed to be one of those living saints, specifically the flavor that is supernaturally self-disciplined. I've tried to approximate these powers using the shop system, but there are a few things I'd like that are especially relevant now that she's planescarred. ...And I just namedropped two of my silly Local Lores in one paragraph-long explanation. Urg, sorry.

Living Saint
Custom PrC: Keelin Madaricatu

We are the end of the Path. Immaculate. We spent decades in the fire, excising every imperfection, crushing every errant thought until only virtue remained. Nothing in this doomed world is closer to Heaven than we are. Our minds are untouchable and our spirits are unbreakable. We are beyond compassion. Let our enemies find redemption in their next life.

These abilities are magical.

Prerequisites

  • Adept Concentration
  • Element: Holy

<This is where your pricing table will go.>

Level One

  • Immaculate Existence: Holy energy suffuses every fiber of your being. Your blood is boiling hot and, when exposed to unholy surfaces, mildly corrosive. When you touch unholy beings with your bare skin, you can cause localized necrosis that becomes increasingly severe with extended contact. Those who use a magic-based way to perceive the world (e.g. Wraith Sight, Detect Magic) see you as almost blindingly bright and possessing a burning halo. This ability is latent, but any aspect can be suppressed through willpower.

Level Two

  • Blasphemers of the Flesh: Those who dare to strike at your person are punished for their impious actions. When you are unwillingly injured, you may choose to leave a fist-sized rune on your enemy in the same location. If you strike that rune with an attack, it will explode and deal major damage in a localized area. This explosion is capable of obliterating a small patch of armor or a fist-sized chunk of flesh. Each rune will last for three posts after suffering the wound, and up to three can be active at once.

Level Three

  • Censure: An affront to a Living Saint is an affront to Heaven itself and must be punished. Select three spells or one PrC ability that you have already witnessed your enemies use. If your enemies use any of those spells (or that PrC ability) again for the remainder of the fight, they will receive moderate holy damage immediately after casting. You must warn your enemies (e.g. "Do that again and you will regret it") before this ability can properly take effect. This ability may only be used once per fight.

  • Prostrate Thyself!: This ability can only be activated when the space surrounding you is free of other, lesser beings. By declaring yourself divine, any who wish to come within ten feet of your person must verbally ask for permission to do so. Those that you deny will suffer from a constant feeling of existential terror while within this area. Those who do not ask permission will instantly be punished by a beam of holy energy that deals moderate damage when they cross the boundary. Those who you allow to approach will be healed by your mercy as if by the Heal spell. This ability lasts for 3 combat posts and may only be activated once per fight.

Level Four

  • Unknowable Mind: Your mind is a well-defended fortress. Whenever someone successfully uses a magical spell or ability to read your mind, gauge your emotions, track your location, predict your behavior or change your behavior, they will automatically receive a jolt of moderate holy damage regardless of whether you anticipated or were aware of it. This damage usually manifests as painful bleeding from the eyes or a flash of light accompanied by a searing headache. Unknowable Mind only activates against magical spells or abilities.

  • Sanctify: You bless an inanimate object with the spark of Heaven, which few mortals can withstand unscathed. For the next 3 rounds, this object emits an aura that inflicts constant holy damage against anyone near or touching it. This damage compounds, so while an enemy might be capable of keeping hold of a Sanctified object for all three rounds, they will suffer painful and damaging holy burns as a result. Objects cannot be sanctified if they are being worn on the body (e.g. clothing, armor). Only one object may be Sanctified at a time. Sanctifying multiple objects over the course of a battle is increasingly fatiguing.

Level Five

  • Apotheosis: You shed the bindings that keep your unbreakable spirit sealed. Besides any optional physical transformations desired, a halo of molten light surrounds you. Your radiance inflicts constant, mild holy damage against any enemy who draws within 15 feet of you. While in Apotheosis, you possess a high-speed healing factor that makes you much more difficult to kill or severely injure. You may apply one additional metamagic feat to any Holy-element spell you cast while this ability is active, but this feat still incurs fatigue normally. This ability lasts for 2 combat posts and can only be used once per fight. Undergoing Apotheosis is traumatic and unnatural; for 2 posts after the ability ends, you will be moderately more susceptible to damage and cannot be healed.

This is a pretty awesome PRC!

Now, for something completely different:

Immaculate Existence: This is fine.

Level 2:

Blasphemer of Flesh: This needs a cap limit to uses; as it reads up to three runes is extreme, and the ability to make more than three too much. Possible solutions: max number of uses with no limitation on number active or maximum of one active with no a larger limit on uses. I suggest one or two uses at most - probably one, as it is a level 2 ability.

Level 3:

Censure: Seems fine, but three spells may be too much. I am unsure on this, tbh

Prostrate Thyself!: Is the beam a one-time attack or does it recurr every round they are too close? If one then done this appears fine.

Level 4:

Unknowable Mind: I am wary of this. I have a character with latent detect magic, which would allow her to detect someone casting or the like. For abilities that can detect that are always in, does this ability cause continuous damage?

Sanctify: Seems fine.

Level 5:

This ability also seems fine. Does it generate any fatigue on top of the listed drawbacks?

Overall I like the way the abilities click with one another. As it sits, I personally feel it is too powerful but not unworkable!

Censure is probably a bit weak. As written it probably won't do much to affect a fight except when it comes to targeting spammable abilities like Focus Beam. If it was more like:

After taking heavy damage from enemy actions over the course of a single post, the Living Saint may censure the opponent's spells and PrC abilities. When a foe casts an ability they receive minor holy damage. After casting this ability affects all of the Living Saint's foes and lasts two posts. This ability may only be used once per battle.

Personally for Blasphemer of the Flesh I'd suggest keeping the current limits but toning down the damage. The BotF damage is in addition to whatever the Saint's blows manage. So it could have a different beneficial effect or less damage.

Note: Not a Staff Member, just a cPrC enthusiast.

*giggles madly* The ham.

  • BotF: Does it have to be a physical attack to activate, or can it be spells/PrC abilities? Physical might limit it a bit. I know I shouldn't look at the character when examining abilities, but Keelin can shoot off nearly instantaneous lasers, which might make sniping the runes simple. Physical attacks would require more effort and stop it from being an sure counter. Reducing the damage could also alleviate concerns, like Ley said.
  • Censure: Ley's suggestion is kind of cool, a blanket suspension of abilities to avoid further harm. Also, does this effect latent PrC abilities (like the RB buffs or Spellblade's impossible to disarm-ness) or just active ones?
  • Prostrate Thyself!: You kept the name, and that's why you're my favorite.
  • Unknowable Mind: I understand Aey's concerns. Not sure how to avoid constant damage to latent effects, like the eye grafts or arcane runes. Hrm.

I love this idea. Don't have very much additional input. I'll keep an eye on this. ^__^

Sorry for taking so long to respond to feedback! I had reasons? Maybe?

Changelog:

  • BotF: Changed it to a physical attack to activate, as Seele suggested. Also tweaked the limitations. Let me know what you think.
  • Used Ley's version of Censure. Only affects active abilities, not passives.
  • Prostrate Thyself!'s beam is one-time.
  • Unknowable Mind: Added the sentence, "Against latent abilities, this ability only triggers once." Also specified it triggers on people who do it without your permission.
  • Mentioned that Apotheosis is fatiguing.

The only thing I have to say here is that I would like to see Prostrate Thyself reduced to a two round duration.

Otherwise, this looks good enough to me to ship.
