Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Goku's head got out of the water near the lake. This training was simple: To hold his breath long enough, and try to endure the most pression the water. He'd been at it since before sunrise. He was too excited to have found a new way to train. In his mind, if he had to face something big and strong able to grapple him and crush him, he could try to resist and fight back. It was dark and blurry under water but that did not bother him at all. A bit chilly too, but that was tagging along his endurance training.

But the more time he spent in the water, the more the grey fishes looked delicious. As he took a break to breath, he looked at the sky. The monkey-man observed the color of the sky, he was in the middle of the after noon. The clouds were plenty, just a little bit windy. The stomach growled. No wonder the blurry grey fished looked good. It would be a lot better if cooked though. There was a smell of cooked fish too. Goku's nose guided him. He walked all the side of the beach of the lake and walked up next of a river. There was a small firecamp near it, the more he was getting closer, the hungrier he would get, the stronger the cooked fish smelled.

An thin old man with a straw hat, long gray hair smiled at him as he got closer. The only thing the Ki adept could is to drool at the sight of the trout cooking in an iron frying pan and mumbled.

''...Looks so goood....''

The old man tilted his head. ''You look famished young man, care to share some with an old man?'' Goku was stunned at the offer in front of him. It was too good to be true! He sat next to the old man and thanked him. Goku devoured and devoured again cooked trouts and salmon on a stick. When he was full, the monkey-man tapped his belly and sighed happily. ''Thank you old man, that was delicious.''

-I'm happy that you enjoyed my meal young man. What's your name?

-I'm Son Goku.

-Very well Goku, what is a young man like you doing in the woods here? You are sure no bandit, and neither elf i see.

-Oh, was training in the lake...

-You mean, at the lake?

-Yup, training in the lake.

-Swimming?

-Nope. Well, i guess it'd be depth diving.

-I see... Oh, it's that time already.

The old man looked bothered, and Goku perceived that. ''Something wrong old man?'' It took a minute before an answer. ''Well i had gotten two douzains fishes through out my day... and well, you were hungry so i offered.... I have half a douzain left is all, and have a family to feed.'' Goku felt bad. This man had sacrificed his family's meal for a stranger. Goku got up, took his boots off, and got his feet in the low water level river.

''HAAAAAAAAAAA!!!''

In a blazing aura of flames, the water boiled around him even evaporated and let out steam. Goku looked at the old man and told him to grab the fishes who fell in the water less places without getting burned. The ki adpet shot some fishes with Ki Blasts. The monkey man gave back as much fishes the fisherman got all day.

''You're pretty amazing young man, how do you do that? Magic?''

''Well, i guess it looks like it, but it's more calling on my inner energy. I want to be stronger both physically, and with my inner Ki.''

The old man smiled again. ''Keep going Goku, people needs strong and good hearted man like you.''

Both the man and Goku told each other good bye. It has been a good day, the evening would eventually begin soon. He looked at the sky and smiled. He liked those kind of days.

Firaliel was wandering through Norwood when she noticed the scent of fish cooking. Fira knew that cooking meant people, and it was usually a good idea to at least check on people who were in the forest. The first person Fira saw was an old fisherman, who presumably was making food for himself and maybe a family. Most likely not anyone to be worried about and probably wise to the ways of the forest.

Fira was about to leave when she spotted movement in the water. Something broke the surface, and that something looked distinctly humanoid. Looking more closely, she saw what looked like a monkey-man, and he quickly noticed and headed toward the scent of food.

Fira wondered how the fisherman would deal with all the food that was being eaten, and she considered giving him something to eat. However, the young man rectified that in a way that showed off his abilities. He said that he wanted to become stronger, and Fira felt that she just might be able to help with that.

Fira emerged from the shadows almost directly in front of the monkey-man, her movements silent and efficient. She said, "I might be able to teach you a few things."

Goku's mind was drifting off, strong like Master Krent, Dutiful like Kaess Sensei. It was a good mix. Thus the monkey-man wanted to train and be on the same level as them. Who else would he face? Who else was that strong? Suddenly, a woman almost appeared out of nowhere, he flpped on his feet backward to stare at the demi-elf. In his head, he replayed slowly what the woman just said.

''You... can train me? Wait, how do you know, how did you get here? Okay, could you start from the beginning?''

He calmed from his defensive stance. To hide her presence like that. And she wanted to show him some tricks hers probably. Disappearing arts? But did she knew how to fight? That was something the Ki Adept would like to see. If her form is good, and all. Her strength and agility.

Stepping out of the shadows had taken the man--who seemed like he was hardly more that a boy--off guard, and he took a few steps back in surprise. He was surprised to the point that much of what she'd said was lost on him, though he'd gotten the main point.

She said, "I offered to teach you some things. I've been watching for the past few minutes. I was thinking I could help you with your fighting techniques, but I think you need to get better at handling surprises and distractions. If you want, of course, I can teach you a thing or two about staying out of sight. What do you think? Oh by the way my name is Firaliel. What's yours?"

Firaliel had seen from his movements that he was no novice to the art of fighting. However, it was also apparent that he was still at a point where training with her would do him some good.

''Nice to meet you, i'm Goku!''

She could help with his fighting technique? So far, both Kaess-Sensei, and Master Krent had not the same kind of energy manipulation, well, ki, has him. But for the technical points, they were without questions the best he had seen. Learning to stay out of sight? The money-man tilted his head and thought about it for a second. Taking someone down by hiding behind and striking hard. It would not be fair, it would not be the same as having a challenge.

''I think stealth is not my thing, i prefer to fight to strengthen my muscles and increase my reflexes, and devellop some Ki techniques instead.'' He said, smiling, as he scratched his cheek with a finger. He felt bad refusing someone to teach him something. ''So, how do you want to proceed?''

Apparently, Goku didn't have a lot of interest in learning about stealth. Fira herself had never expected to learn such things, but it became a practical matter for her. The way she saw things, honor belonged in the arena and the practice field, not on the battlefield.

Fira said, "I understand, but I can mention that for me, stealth is no substitute for knowing how to fight. On the battlefield, the only thing that matters in the end is who is left standing."

Firaliel then, with no warning, pulled one of her sai from its hidden sheath and thrust it into Goku's breastbone, pommel first. The strike was done at full speed and power (though she gave him a full second to react as she drew the weapon), but she held back somewhat at the last instant, leaving the strike with energy to be somewhat painful but not enough to cause any serious injury. This was intended as a test of his reflexes and reactions. If Goku truly wanted to know how to fight, he needed to always be prepared to react.

The only thing Goku could do againts that was blink. The pain was there, and the move was done. As the blow, done he took a step back and look at the woman. He did not understood the utility of the stealth to that speed. He gained a defensive stance nonetheless. He knew with moves like that, she could put him out of comission in less then thirty seconds.

''That's... Ow... That's the kind of speed i want.''

He got focused, and dashed to his sparring partner, quick palm strike from his left hand to her chest, then a chop from his right hand sweeping from left to right at neck level, he also dashed a second time to get a right knee strike at her. He wanted to do small combos on her. Not powerful hit, but it nonetheless, much power took a bit slower to build up and a waste of energy if it missed. He tried to remember Master Krent's lesson.

Firaliel had given Goku plenty of time to get his guard up, yet he was far too slow, not even so much as moving before her attack connected. She could see after the blow connected that it caused him pain, but it also changed the way he looked at her, now that it was clear that she had a lot of speed behind her techniques. He commented that he wanted to be able to use that kind of speed.

Fira then noticed him focusing, and he was clearly preparing to return her attack with strikes of his own. She held back any preemptive strikes and waited for him to attack, knowing that giving him the chance to strike would be better for him. She did, however, drop her weapon to make the fight more fair. She had to give him respect for striking back after her surprise hit.

Fira moved back just enough that she was outside the effective reach of the palm strike. His palm still hit her, but it was barely a tap to her leather armor. She then used her right hand to deflect the next strike, only deflecting it enough to keep it from hitting her and not actually stopping the strike's momentum. When he went in for the knee strike, she stepped aside to her left and went for his knee with her right hand, trying to keep the momentum going enough to take him off balance. If he actually lost his balance and fell, Fira caught him with her left arm and pulled him back to his feet before he could hit the ground.

Regardless of what happened, Fira motioned to stop the combat. Once he was stopped and paying attention, she said, "You'll need to work on the quick reactions. Good recovery, though. It's always important to be able to get back into the fight after a surprise." Fira then decided to ask about Goku's combat style. "So, do you fight exclusively unarmed, or do you carry a weapon? Also, how do your special abilities work? I saw you doing some of them for the fisherman."

Firaliel was partly interested because of her own abilities, which she figured were magic spells that she could cast innately. It would be interesting, though, if she and Goku actually had similar types of abilities.

He was glad to actually hit her, even though the hit was not painful at all. He was unable to touch either Krent or Kaess for that matter. Maybe Goku was getting better? Or she really gave him a chance. Either, using his own momentum againts him proved he was outmatched nonetheless. His tail instinctivly grabbed her by the waist. When he released her he excused himself briefly.

''Oh, thank you, and sorry.''

He listed to the half-elf woman, as she asked if he had any weapon. He took his simple quarterstaff. Goku had basics with it, but sure could improved the use of it. Then she asked the Ki adept about his abilities. ''Each individual have Ki in them, others manipulate mana around them better thanks to that but both are similar in the end... Well, that's what my grand-pa told me anyway. Why you ask? You got something similar?''

If he could meet another Ki-user, it would be a first. Her style would be what is the closest to Goku's then his two mentors. What abilities did she possessed? How did she used them? Maybe he could train that with her.

Firaliel wasn't expecting to feel the monkey-man's tail around her waist as she caught him, but it seemed like an instinctive move to break the fall, as he was not expecting to be caught by her. He apologized for it, but she didn't make any response.

Goku then showed her a quarterstaff but jumped right into telling her about what he explained as something along the lines of ki manipulation. Firaliel had her abilities that she always considered to be magic, but they were not learned in the same way as a mage's spells.

"Yes, my interest is in part because of my own abilities. I've always considered them to be spells, much like a mage would use, but they are different. For one thing, I cannot, to the best of my knowledge, learn new abilities at will, though once I know an ability, I can take the time to master it. Also, I don't use any sort of incantations. Just doesn't work that way. It sounds like your abilities are similar, but not identical to mine, though they could be more similar than I'm thinking. As to the abilities themselves, there is no theme, but I have a wide variety of spells that I can use. What specific abilities do you have?"

Fira knew that she could expect to answer that same question, but she had enough abilities that it would take a while and cause significant drain on her energy reserves to demonstrate them all. She was, however, willing to demonstrate a selection of her abilities.

Goku listened to the woman and tilted his head. It sure felt like Ki abilities. The way to train them and to use the energy the body released, he could not see anything else. She then asked him about his abilities. He felt proud, with luck he could teach her some small things. He got up. He looked at something to aim. A bee nest, this would do. ''First, my most basic abilities. The Ki Blast, or Ki shot.'' He stared the nest, gathered up his inner key, transfered it to his hand and threw it. ''Kya!'' The nest was destroyed on impact easily of course.

''And this one is my only other abilty. I Called it Burning Aura, or Burning presence.'' He got his Ki spreading through out his body, he remembered briefly he was not strong enough, he had to remember his defeats at the ends of his master. The challenge of his friends. ''KYAAAAAH!!'' A second later, Goku was covered in a fire that did not even hurt him. ''It does not last long though...'' It took nearly twenty seconds before it went away. ''See?''

Firaliel had just asked Goku what his abilities were, but he seemed to take that as a request to show off what he could do. Fira didn't have a problem with this, however, thinking that it was an effective method of answering her question. Neither of his specific abilities were things she could use, but she had similar abilities.

Fira said, "Interesting. Looks like you definitely have some useful abilities. If my shield ability is any indication, your best bet is to focus on keeping the energy stable and in position to protect you." Fira silently raised her own shield spell, making a brief gesture of warding as she did so. Her spell was obviously different from his, creating a shimmering 'skin' that would protect her from a certain amount of incoming damage, either physical or magical. [1]

She then decided to show him something different. She said, "I'll also show you another ability." With that, she briefly focused on changing her physical position and visibly glanced upward and over the river. She disappeared from her position and reappeared floating in the air, over the river, about thirty feet above the water. Unless he immediately spotted her, she said, "I'm over here. Look up." [2]

Once Goku noticed her, she walked on air back toward him and downward. Once she was over land, she released her control of gravity and dropped the remaining ten feet and landed on her feet with cat-like grace.
[1] spell: mage armor
[2] spell: Dimension Door (for the teleport), plus Lunar Disciple PrC: Feathered Steps (to walk on air)

Goku observed Firael's abilities. A ki armor? It was a useful concept she could teleport? That was fast, and useful. A powerful ability for close combat, either to get in, or out without the other having a chance to say a thing about it. She was a ressourceful, multitalented no doubt. She knew how to fight, and graceful. Goku was lucky, he met pretty gifted and powerful people, would he one day reach that level of abilites.

''This is awesome... I wish i could learn half-of your abilities.'' He looked like a child receiving a gift. More possible potential. Fire Immunity of Kaess, Strength and skills of Krent, Ki aptitude like Firael. He could become someone to look up to. To be the best fighter there is. To seek the greater Challenge.

Firaliel saw that Goku was pretty impressed with what he saw. She had plenty of other abilities, but now was not the time to tell him or show them to him.

She said, "Perhaps you will pick up more abilities soon. For me, anyways, they tend to appear when they're needed and without any kind of warning. The only good way to improve your skills is lots of practice, and I mean a lot. Speaking of which, now is a good time. There's a group of bandits I've been watching that needs to be taken out. You can help me deal with them, or you can spar with me and I'll figure out how to deal with them later."

This was one case where what Fira needed to take care of the bandits was a diversion. Just keeping some of them occupied would enable her to hit several of them before they could realize what she was up to. Fira felt that Goku was up to the task.

Training? Again he did not mind. It would be the first time he would fight with his life depending on it. Surely his skills was worth taking down a few bandits. A one man training versus... what twenty. Well, they would be two, it was possible. He smacked his hands together. Eager to test his strenght. ''Alright, What you want me to do? How you want to approach this?''
