Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

Shirine was on her way back to a village in the forest after comoleting a job . The job had been to clear out a small band of thieves that had been harassing the place. It had only been a small group so it was an easy job. She walked along under the trees smelling the fresh scent of nature around her. She was still half a day from the village, but there was no rush. She had taken her elven form for the moment. One never knew when you might meet a druid or ranger patroling this forest and an elf brought up fewer questions than a were-tiger.

She worre some simple brown pants and a white shirt. She had a small brown jacket on as well given it was colder. a simple pair of boots too.

The day was going fine and she was wondering if she should catch somethjng for lunch or just eat from her rations. It was then she heard a comotion just up ahead. She quickly bent down and sunuck up to the sound. She soon saw a clearing and a group of goblins. They were hitting on something she could not see clearly. She could see some blood so there was not much time to think. She lossened her boots kicking them off as she jumped in. She unsheatheed her sword and transformed into her hybrid form. Two heads rolled to the side from the surprise attack. Another one fled at the sight of her. Seven goblins remained.

Her clothes were stretched and ripped in several places. It was costly on her clothes to tranform suddenly loke this, but more importantly she had the attention of the goblins giving the creature or person being attackex a chance to break free.

Her vision was blurring. She was losing a lot of blood and knew she needed to get out now or death would take her.

Zymr had left the village early in the morning to do some hunting. She needed the money and food, figuring the meat of the deer of the forest would feed her for a while while their pelts would make for a good profit. The goblins had come out of nowhere as she was closing in on a large buck, and one of them stuck a large spear in her right shoulder just as she pounced, lodging it deep in her muscle.

Excruciating pain took over, but Zymr powered through as long as she could, clawing at the nearest goblins. She managed to take down one or two, but the large group were too many for her to manage alone.

Just as she as started to lose consciousness, the goblins let up their attack, distracted by something. Zymr pounced out of the horde, running several hundred yards before collapsing in some brush.

Using what energy she had left, Zymr transformed back into her elvish form. She knew she must stop the bleeding quickly. Hovering her hands over her most major wounds, she began to chant the words to her healing spell.

Chairen-sohl, chairen-sohl, chairen-sohl…

Her wounds began to close up, and the bleeding slowed, then stopped. Though her wounds were on the mend, her immense blood loss, mana spenditure, and transformation had used too much of her energy, and consciousness slipped away. As the darkness took over, she realized she didn’t know who she owed her life to.

The fight ended faster than Shirine expected. The goblins were not very cordinated and seemed to only know how to gang up on people. She saw their target escape and it jad looked like a feline of some sort. She would folkow and check up on it in a bit. First she kited the goblins felling another three before the remaining four bolted. She gave brief chase, but they vanished into the foliage. She then went back and looked for signs of where the goblin's victim had gone.

It was not hard to find the trail of the wounded creature. The scent was strong too. However, to her surprise she found a woman instead. She looked late teens or early adult. Shirine flind her quirlte attractive really. The scares were just signs of a strong fighter or survivalist. She was elvish so it was hard to place her exact age until she woke up. Still she looked wounded, but slowly recovering. Was she a were-creature like Shirine... no the healing would be stronger. There would be fewer scares too. Still this person had clearly been an animal. A druid maybe... did not look like it. No matter what the scent confirmed this was indeed the victim from earlier.

She shook her head refocusing herself. First things first. Take care of the victim and then figure oit who and what she was. She transformed back to her elven form and set down her back pack. Her clotjes were a bit stretched and there were several large ripps, but they were both girls and this form was lezs threatening. She unpacked the bandages trying to bind anywounds she could. She was not sure ofcthis would wake the girl, but best not to leave wounds open to the elements.

When the girl awoke Shirine would give a little space and smile, "Hello don't worry I am just trying to help. My name is Shirine.

Zymr’s eyes fluttered open as her surroundings came back into focus. How long had she been out? Everything felt sore, but she no longer felt as weak as before.

Looking down at her wounds and seeing that they had been dressed, she heard a reassuring voice, and Zymr noticed the pale elvish woman beside her. The elf had hair redder than fire and eyes greener than emeralds, something that Zymr had never seen, even throughout her long journey. It was shocking at first, but she found it breathtakingly beautiful, mindlessly reaching up to play with her own hair self-consciously.

“Hello, my name is Zymr. Ah… you said your name was Shirine? Are you the one who helped me? I think I recognize your scent,” she replied softly, trying to sit up, but being reminded of her wounds as the soreness set in.

Her eyes landed on the torn and stretched clothing of the elvish woman. She had seen this many times before.

“Do you… do you have the ability too? Your clothes… I’ve done that a million times!” She said excitedly as she sat up quickly to examine the elf closer, forgetting about her injuries. Her heart raced with hope and anticipation. She had been searching so long. This would be the first person like herself that she’d ever met.

Her own tribe had cast her out for her ability to transform. This land may after all be her saving grace if there were more like her.

The girl woke up and was clearly a teen or young adult from her actions. She saw Zymr looking at Shirine and touching her own hair in away that looked a little self conscious. Did a pretty girl like her have problems with her own appearance. Maybe the scars... possible or maybe she was reading too much into this.

The girl spoke a bit and got excited when Shirine nodded a little and put a hand on the Zymr's shoulder to try and keep her from moving too much."Easy there just rest up for now. Don't want those wounds reopening and I am similar to you. However, I suspect we are not the exact same thing. For one my healing abilities are a lot stronger. If it wasn't I would probably be more scarred than you are. Most people would call me a were-tiger.

As for my scent I was the one who scared off those goblins earlier. Then I followed your scent here and did my best to bind those wounds. Anyways what is a some your age doing alone out here, especially a girl a pretty as you?"

Shirine actually new little about elvish culture. She had passing contact, but for most of the life she remembered she had been a slave or a mercenary.

Zymr ran her hands over her scars, tracing her fingers along the deep, dark crevices. She should have noticed before; one look at the she-elf before her told her that she had a power that Zymr did not. Her healing was slow and painful and left her body marred to tell the story of every injury.

Of course this one wasn’t just like her. Zymr was disappointed, but that did mean that abilities like hers weren’t as looked down upon as were in her tribe.

“I left the village this morning on a hunt. I was tracking a string of deer, focusing in on a large buck, when I got attacked. It was a novice mistake. I guess the comfort of affording a bed at an inn has made me lax. Well, I’m glad you were here, but why were you?” she asked the woman. “We are pretty far from the village.”

She couldn’t believe that she’d been ambushed by goblins like a mere child. Her focus on her hunt outweighed her alertness, and that was a mistake she wouldn’t soon make again. If she did, she may not be so lucky next time.

Shirine nodded, but her instinct said that the girl wasn't being entirely truthful. Was she perhaps persecuted for her abilities like people often saw were-creatures. Yes it was possible. She decided to ask a little about Zymr's circumstances.

"To answer your question I was actually heading home to Taras from a job dealing with some thieves. I am a mercenary by trade. Being alone is dangerous for even the most experienced. I should know most people assume were-creatures are evil or something. Thus I am usually doing jobs alone as I can only fight to my fullest in my other form.

I am still surprised that you are out here alone though and you were staying at an inn? Do you not have a home? Or are you traveling some where? Or is hunting alone a thing? I suppose I don't know much about elven customs. As said, I actually live in Taras and well before that I was a slave to the drow for most of my life until I escaped..."

For the most part Shirine seem honestly interested in Zymr, but Shirine's expression darkened a little when talking about the drow. She hatted them and those times. It was hard to keep her emotions in check when thinking about those times.

Zymr noticed the she-elf’s face fall as she spoke of her slavery. She recalled that same feeling and knew that this one had too suffered greatly. Their abilities, though different, shouldn’t be seen as something evil, but to the average person, they were too powerful and unpredictable. Zymr reached out to pat the woman’s shoulder but pulled it back at the last second, not knowing how she would feel about that.

“I actually have no idea where Taras is. I’ve only just arrived in Imythess, so as of now, I’m a lonely nomad, which I have been for a long time now. I mostly stick to myself. I stopped here, seeking my own kind, and,” she said, chuckling before she continued, “Funnily enough, I made friends with one of the only few non-elves, who offered me refuge and knowledge. I’ll be joining her shortly in Striberg. I have a few things to finish up and a few more places to see first.”

She looked down at her feet. “And sadly, I don’t know much about elvish culture either. I’m a hunter and a tracker. Because of my ability, I require large amounts of protein. Most elves here only eat vegetables.” Zymr stopped, looking up towards the canopy of trees. It was quiet all around aside from the rustle of the wind and the sounds of their breathing. The weight of its meaning began to sink in.

Her eyes narrowed, and she sniffed the air. Everything was too still. Something was near.

Shirije listened learning Zymr was new to these lands and a nomad hunter by trade. Impressive really, but also telling of a hard life. She was glad Zymr had met a friend already, though Striberg was a decently long trip and not the eaaiest of environments either. She understood the need to eat a lot too. Tranforming took energy just like anything else and you needed hardy meals to keep yourself going. She nodded in understanding to this.

She had been about to say something when her instincts told her there was something out there. She also noticed it was becoming unusually quite around them. She losened her sword a little ready to pull it free and fight in a split second. She saw Zymr was also being cautious."Hmm.. you feeling beter yet? It was a way of asking if Zymr was ready to fight if needed.

Shirine intended to let any enemies make the first move. Still Iifcanything made a hostile move they would be met with a swift strike and a transforming weretigress.

Alertness radiated off the other elf woman though she didn’t move a muscle, and her continued conversation hinted Zymr to do the same. If there were a fight, it would be coming to them. However, in this state, only true crisis could force Zymr into shifting again. Though her wound was at a point of being a dull ache, the resources her body had stored were gone. Her body just didn’t have the necessary energy.

“I could use a hearty meal,” she hinted at the elven tigress, “But I wouldn’t go down without a fight.” Readying her hands at the hilt of her fighting knives, she hoped the redhead would infer what she meant.

At this point, the only fighting she would be doing was with her daggers. Zymr was trained with a blade, but her preferred fighting style was in her tigress form, fighting alongside her companion, Hu Li Liang, a white tigress she befriended along the way of her journey.

In the village, though the elves loved nature and animals, her tigress companion created unease. Because of this Zymr had allowed the feline to wander around the forest, waiting to be called. Needing her companion now more than ever, Zymr let out a low birdcall, designed to mimic a species of bird native only to Hu Li Liang’s natural home. Once she heard it, the tigress would know her mistress needed her.

Now all she could do was hope her companion had heard her and that this elven woman could hold her own if the enemy proved to be a true threat.

The bushes shook and Shirine slashed down as a goblin jumped out. She shifted rapidly into her were-tiger form and wrenched the sword out into another one. A third one was bashed by the a shield and and the back of her hand stumbling back stunned toward Zymr. Shirine assumed the girl could finish that one off and focused on the next wave that was starting to move forward. She could smell more coming, but they were more organized this time. She expect at least one or two archers with this wave, but luckily she had never known goblins to be good shots.

Hadn't she taken out the chief before... unless there was a shaman or a warlord out there.... no goblin warlords did not last long in Norwood thanks to the elves, but a shaman... yeah there might be one about. "Careful they might have a shaman with them. Too organized to be led by anything less crafty."

Now if only they had someone who could flank this group they could probably turn this surprise attack into a true massacre.

Zymr wrenched her fighting knives out of their sheaths, lunging towards the stumbling goblin’s back and slashed them horizontally along her foe’s neck, cutting deep. As he fell to his knees and onto his face, she turned around only to be the in the crosshairs of a goblin’s bow and arrow.

The goblin loosed the arrow at her, but Zymr ducked at the last second, rolling out of the way. This is so much easier in my other form, she growled to herself.

To the right another archer had shown up, aiming at Shirine, but Zymr was too focused on the one wanting her blood. She sprinted towards her goblin archer, ducking as it took another shot that clipped the armor at her shoulder and deflected off. Upon approach, the goblin whipped out a dagger, but Zymr crouched, swinging her leg around and knocking the enemy off its feet. Plunging the dagger deep into its temple, Zymr looked up at Shirine, who was dealing with her own enemy.

The hair at the back of her neck was still raised. Another wave would be coming soon.

“There’s more coming. I can feel it,” she stated. However, she could also smell her familiar friend, though still a ways off, heading towards them from the east. They wouldn’t be fighting alone for long.

Shirine could hear the scream of a goblin meaning that Zymr was doing fine and she focused as three tried to jump her. She slashed one down and dodged away from the other two a club hitting her buckler and bouncing away. She slashed again in a quick motion and another one was down. A bash with the shield sent the third into the ground.

From the corner of her eye she saw Zymr take down and archer. Good these goblins were not a threat so far. She killed the third one and heard a swish of sound as an arrow fell short behind her. Damn the next group was already here and then a small bolt of magic lanced out of the woods and struck her leg. It created a small wound, but it hurt. She tried to spot or smell the caster, but failed. "Damn I was right there is a shaman. Oh here is then next group on que it seems."

The visible enemies counted five more melee goblins, two archers and the shaman lurking out in the woods hidden. She was sure there was probably a couple guarding the Shaman. If they could take that shaman out the rest would probably panic.

Looking up just in time to see Shirine get struck by a magic bolt, Zymr realized another wave had crept up on them. Hopefully it would be the last and all they’d need to deal with after that is the cowardly shaman and his protectors hiding behind a veil of trees.

Her eyes fluttered closed, and she took a deep breath, listening to what was around her. The field had been assessed: fifteen yards to her right another archer had appeared, close to loosing an arrow her way; to the left, two goblin warriors were making their way across the terrain to her, swords raised and shields out. Another archer and three goblins were heading towards to large were-tigress.

Zymr cursed under her breath and tested her shoulder. Would transforming be worth the risk? she wondered, knowing the answer was no.

She needed to deal with the archer first, or she’d find herself with a back full arrows. As she said this, the archer loosed his arrow, and it struck her arm, revealing a flesh wound and drawing blood. Her eyes narrowed. It was time to move. She dashed towards a large tree body that had fallen. As she reached cover she ripped the dagger she’d bought off a travelling merchant out of its sheath at her calf. She’d yet to test if it did what she was promised it did or not.

It’s now or never to try, she thought to herself, taking aim at the archer. It had already readied another arrow, aimed right between her eyes. It loosed just as Zymr ducked, barely dodging it. Quickly popping back up, she aimed her dagger at the goblin’s face. “Here goes nothing,” she growled, pressing the hilt. The blade launched from the hilt at a great speed, finding its mark between the archer’s eyes. It slumped to the ground. Now for the others.

Assessing her ground, Zymr quickly realized two goblins had already reached her. With less than a second to react, she pushed off from the ground, leaping backwards and dodging a downward slash of one goblin’s scimitar. The other was ready to go, slashing with a powerful overhanded swing. Zymr crossed her wrists, fighting knives bared, and met the blade. The force upset her foothold and knocked her onto the ground on her back, but she maintained her defensive stance.

The goblin she evaded saw his opening and swung at her exposed head. Zymr attempted to kick the goblin on top of her into the other, but her attempts failed and she braced for the hit. A familiar smell hit her nose as she heard a deep growl erupt from the shadows behind them. Hu Li Liang plowed into the attacking goblin, knocking him to the ground and ripping into his throat with her teeth. Distracted by his comrade’s death, the goblin on top of Zymr looked away, and she took the opportunity to finally throw him off and slash his throat.

Breathing heavily, Zymr looked up to see how her new friend was doing.

Shirine confronted the three charging goblins with a roar. One hesitated a bit from the roar and got slashed across his face. Probably not dead, but he did fall back screaming in pain. An arrow flew by missing Shirine. She focused on the other two near here for a minute blocking one strike and then stabing the otjer in the gut and wrenching her sword out. She took a slash to her side in re turn, but it was shallow. If the foght went long it might be a problem, but she was not going to let that happen. She glanced at thee bow goblin aiming for her and her eyes flashed for a moment. Using her magical power a bit the bow slamed into the ground probably shatering as it became several times heavier than it should have been.

She then saw the last melee goblin aiming for her. At the same time the goblin archer charged with a knife. She blocked ine strike with her shield and stabbed the other with her sword and not having time to pill the sword free killed the last one with her jaws as he fell back from the ruberized shield's recoil. She made sure to stab the screaming goblin she had first slashed tok. She grinned as only a predator can when it has killed it's target and looked over to see Zymr was also done on her side.

She noted the other feline, but seeing how strong Zymr's scent was on it she knew it was an ally. She motioned for them to spread out and circle around an area to her left. "Okay, nicely done. There is a shaman and his guards hiding out there. We kill him and we probably won't be attacked again. He is some where over there lets flush him out and end this." If there was no objection Shirine started around one way and hopefully they would catch this shaman between them as they circled around.

The shaman when found would be with two guards that had leather armor and maces. The Shaman himself only knew low level magics that could not really kill, but could cause some minor wounds.
