Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

This is a seasonal alert. It will only last a short time, but is also one of the few alerts that awards items for interacting with it. See this announcement topic for more information.

VANIMLE, NORWOOD FOREST, IMYTHESS - The illness targeted our arcanotechnology first. In fact, we never even guessed it was an illness when the first airships started to lose control and crash-land at full speed. Then the grafted limbs of our citizens went haywire, attacking their owners as if they had a mind of their own. The few golems we had working for the village were found silently hunched over the corpses of our local Lord and Lady, covered in blood.

We're not sure at what point the illness jumped from mechanisms to flesh. The grafted citizens were the first. They act different. Violent. Their movements aren't quite right. They subsume any mana-rich object or piece of arcane technology they can find, integrating it into their bodies to become something even more inhuman, even more fearsome. When they die, lines of mana pulsate across their bodies and pull their limbs back into place, keeping their lifeless bodies moving inexorably toward some... goal. We stopped thinking of them as victims when they started killing their countrymen and transferring this profane affliction in the process.

Anarchy set in. The local armed forces established a barricade around the entire village of Vanimle -- not just to keep the mindless monsters in, but to keep the rest of Norwood out. The attacks on the barricade from within are so frequent that no one has yet been able to spare an investigation of the calamity or launch an offensive. Without more help, Norwood is stuck in a stalemate that's slowly tilting out of their favor.

You've picked up some basic information about the motives of the forces involved here. How you respond to the situation is your choice.

Captain Golon Ashuo, Norwood Patrol:
"This is not the time for intelligence-gathering. The village needs to be exterminated. Everyone afflicted needs to be destroyed. Maybe even the whole village of Vanimle needs to burn."

Temolen Egnas of the Feadin (Norwood Clandestine Forces):
"Drastic measures are not yet necessary. We'll hold on for a while yet. If we can discover more about the affliction or the afflicted, we can find a cleaner, safer, and more humane way to deal with it. We might even be able to find a cure."

Sírdhemil, leader of the Vanimle survivors:
"I don't care what you do with the monsters. I just can't stand the idea of there being unafflicted survivors still holed up in Vanimle, fighting for their lives. And the military refuses to launch a rescue mission!"

Woman in a green cloak:
"You can control them. All they need is a good push in the right direction. Imagine what you could do with such power. Ah, but don't misunderstand. They will push back, and if you're not strong enough you'll certainly be consumed."
