Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

I want a weapon to have runes that glow at will, from so dim they can barely be seen to so bright that they can actually be used like a torch, but I don't want to get the Weapon Enchantment: Brilliant Energy.

could I make the runes glow without an enchantment? If not, what would be a good suggestion?

This is mostly cosmetic so I do not see s problem, but light changes must be slow and no possibility of causing blinding flashes or such.

If you remove the bright as a torch part it is 100% fine. Of course this is just my opinion so other staff may diagree.

Well if you want it to actually light up an area, and mods say you can't do that for free...you could do the Spell Storing enchantment with the Light spell.

I can never see myself even considering paying for that weapon enchantment.

Makes a target item glow with a bright or soft light.

The spell itself could make the sword glow (fluffed to be the runes glowing). Being a fairly minor spell, i don't imagine it would take much time/energy, either. This way there's no need to take up an enchantment slot and you get the effect you want on the cheap.

From this topic on customization.

You can't add new abilities (e.g. a glow that helps you see in the dark) to an item that didn't already have that power.
As such, I think I remember reading (multiple times) that you can do what Mist said (though you don't have to store it, I think), and buy the Light spell, and have it constant, 'casting' it as needed off-screen (i.e. before the start of a thread) in OOC rule-abiding terms that make it work in the system, but ICly it being a glowing sword.

I like this ^

But it literally says "a glow that helps you see in the dark" in that thing Van posted. heh

You could always fuse a Night Light tattoo into it...*always seems to have tattoo ideas*

I carried over the seeing in the dark example from the old version. If you can have torches for free, I can't see why you couldn't go with what Red said. Gradual, no blinding flashes.

Otherwise, go with what Hearne said.
