| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Can the song-spells in the book "A Harper's Companion" (Book of Songs in Zolero's inventory) be triggered by an instrument enchanted with Animated? Animated can't be used to trigger enchantments, but there's not really any reason why the spells would need to be played by hand to trigger them, especially since they're so versatile--if a dancer can trigger the spell, an enchanted violin would probably be able to. The downside is that that could easily become ridiculously overpowered. If a musician who owned A Harper's Companion spent a few hundred gold on buying and enchanting musical instruments, he could get several spells going at the same time. They all have a relatively long casting time--they won't take effect until the musician finishes the song--but even so, dropping five Fire Strikes every two minutes would be a powerful ability. Most musical instruments are no more than twenty gold. The most expensive is sixty at RP level; the least expensive is fifteen; and A Harper's Companion is two hundred. Animated is only 5g.

Harper's Companion is the item that time forgot, so I'd guess that animated weapons can't play it because it really does look like an instrument enchantment(of some sort) to me, plus Melodic Muse is supposed to be where bards get their spellcasting groove in.

My own experience with Animated states that it can only be used to play your enchanted instrument. Any additional benefits you desire can only be granted by playing it on your own. Sorry,

Oh well. Worth a shot. Makes sense, though; it doesn't fit with the idea of magic as energy to be able to cast dozens of spells using a cheap enchantment.
