Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own.

In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins.

There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free.

It is a strange thing to pass from the shadow and murk of Gloomwood and into the light of the Debon Plains. In some places it's a tightly defined place, a harsh line between two worlds, and in others it fades slowly in and out. Some borders are fixed, others wax and wane with the moon, or the seasons, or the weather. Like everything else on Imythess, the Plane of Shadow is flexible.

For Gala, it ended in a bright band of light on the other side of a line of dark, twisted trees. No light penetrated into the Gloomwood, no darkness touched the other side. The light just hung there - a streak of bright color in a world of dark hues. Even just in front of it, it was impossible to see it's brightness - you could look out and see the brown grass of the Plains, the blue of the sky, but it looked like a painting - not something real.

Gala put a hand out into the light. It dazzled off her gold fingernails, sharply contrasting with her dirty hands. She pulled the hand back and the dazzle winked out.

She put her hand out again.

After amusing herself with this a few more times, she carefully set one foot out from between the trees. It settled on the grass with a slight crunch. Cautiously, she stepped fully into the light.

The brightness nearly blinded her. The browns and greens and blues of the world disappeared in a glare of white light. It was almost like...well, it was exactly like looking at a star elemental - one of the old ones, the ones that didn't pretend to be mortal anymore. The ones who were...well, more like stars.

Gala held up one had over the source of the light and blinked her vision clear. The glare was bearable now, though she was still forced to squint. Carefully she moved her hand a bit. "What is making that light?" she asked herself. Could it be one of the greater elementals? Or was just a ordinary star? Either way, it clearly was very close. She wondered if that was normal.

Gala started across the Plains, brown grass crunching under her boots. She wasn't sure where she was going or what she was going to do next. So far lots of things had happened to her, but she hadn't really caused any of them. She was just sort of involved.

Well, she'd been sent here to learn. As long as things kept happening, she'd learn.

Flamos wasn't normally the one to play favorites when it came to anything, but he couldn't help hiself when it came to the Debon. This little untouched corner of the world had been his birthplace, and the birthplace of his son. He had spent 50 years in a little home in this great tract of flat land, and no matter what he went through, no matter how dark life seemed, he always enjoyed coming back. It gave him a sense of peace that was hard to find anywhere else. This place truly was home, much more than any other place in on Imthess. But even with all of the good feelings that came with the Debon. There were sad memories too. This was where his Wife and child had been murdered, where the life he had loved had been ripped from his clutching hands. This was the place his infernal quest had begun, and he could never forget that. This was also the place he had been violently concieved, and this was the place where darkness had first entered his heart. The Debon was many things to Flamos, and it was conflicting in his opinion.

But, regardless of what the Debon meant to Flamos, he could alway find a place in it. Whether that be planting, reaping, or protecting, there was always a job for Flamos. He even considered starting up his own farm, maybe making some money. He knew this was impossible, he could never give up his traveling lifestyle. Besides, he still hadn't found his father.

On this partcular Spring evening, Flamos was walking back to town after a long day of planting. His feet ached, his side hurt, and he wanted to sharpen his knives. He felt sure that he would be leaving soon, and his callings were generally preceded by violence. Twice his leavings had been preceded by a mass destruction. As he walked along the path to the town, he could feel his little Musfa skittering up and down underneath his loose robe. The Musfa had been found by Flamos is Gloomwood, near death, quite awhile ago. It was on of Flamos' closest friends, and was also a fantastic scout, almost as good as Flamos' birds. He felt sure the Musfa's annoyance was dangerous foreshadowing to the danger he had been worried about. The Musfa scurried down Flamos' leg and ran off towards Gloomwood, some 200 meters away. Flamos sighed and followed.

Gala spread her arms and closed her eyes. What it was burning in the sky might be too close and it was definitely too bright, but it was warm. She hadn't realized how cold Gloomwood was until now.

She felt a slight tugging on the side pocket of her robe - her star patch was trying to crawl out of it's pocket. She took it out. It chattered at her and it tried to escape from her hand. "What is your problem?" she asked it.

It squeaked at her and tried to escape again.

"All right, all right, don't throw a fit," she murmured. "I'll put you down." She lowered it to the grass and it ran off. "Wait! Where are you going?" She followed it.

The grass was thick and dense and the star patch was adept at finding little dirt trails between the clumps where it disappeared into the high grass.

"Come back here!"

The star patch did no such thing. When she finally caught up with it, it was facing off against a little blue and white squirrel creature, making little "hiya" noises. The squirrel creature looked confused and kept trying to go around the star patch, but the star patch wasn't letting it.

"This is nonsense," Gala crouched down in the long grass and grabbed the star patch firmly. "I'm sorry about this," she told the little animal. "I don't know what it wants." The star patch kept trying to escape, making little humming noises like an angry, musically gifted bee.

Gala heard the crunch of feet on the grass. She looked up. Standing not far from her was a man in a red robe. His skin was very pale and his hair and eyes were black. He was a bit taller than Gala, but not nearly as much so as some other people had been.

Gala slowly rose and smiled. "Hello, my name is Gala. What's yours?"

Flamos froze as soon as he saw the strange girl come out of Gloomwood. In Flamos' experience, anything thatcame out of that dark place was evil, be it man or beast, man meaning all sentient species, of course. The girl almost seemed a combination of the two, with feathers in her hair and red and blue on her face were similar to a bird Flamos once saw on a tropical island on his only trip outside of Imythess. she certainly didn't seem evil, or anything like what was normally spit out of the Shadow Plane. She had a robe with fur around it's edge, but it wasn't Umbra fur. Flamos was surprised she even made it out of Gloomwood alive. Anyone who looked like that and could survive in that remenant of the shadow plane had to be very powerful. He was confused as well, because his Magpies were supposed to watch the border between the Debon and Gloomwood, and alert him of anything like this. If this strange woman had done anything to her birds, she would pay.

Flamos whistled to Night, hs musfa, and the little creature came back and scurried up Flamos' arm. Regardless of what this woman was, or what she wanted, he would show her some kindness. "Hello, I'm Flamos" He said amiably, "I don't suppose you saw and shadowy birds out there, did you? I seem to have lost mine." As he asked the question, he put a hand on his dagger in a way that suggested that he was just standing there, and meant no harm. He was, hwever, prepared to pull it if he needed it.

Gala glanced at the sky. "I'm afraid I haven't," she said. "But I just came out of the forest there," she pointed at the Gloomwood. "Everything is shadowy and dark there, so I might have missed them."

The star patch was still struggling in her grip, it's musical buzzing growing more irritated. Finally, there was a squeak and a zap.

"Ow," Gala cried, dropping the star patch. It fell to the ground and scrambled up, unharmed. She looked at her hand - a bead of dark blood was welling up the tip of her middle finger. "You bit me!" She sucked at the offended digit.

The star patch chattered at her. It's voice was too high and tiny to make out the words, but it didn't sound sorry at all. It turned and started to march off in the direction Flamos had come, but Gala grabbed it again, this time with her fingers well away from its tiny mouth. It starting shrieking like a tiny siren. Gala shoved it inside it's pocket, muffling the noise.

She looked at Flamos, her expression a little concerned. "It's my star patch - I don't know what's gotten it so upset."
