| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

Goby watched the myriad lines dangling over the rail as he tied knots in the broken net he was repairing. His fingers moved fast, trained by years of experience. He planned to capture a large haul for his venture to the Taras Docks to sell, but line and harpoon fishing only got one so far in that. For a bit harvest, one needed a net. At least, as he repaired another hole, one without huge gaps in it. He stopped as a gust of hair pushed aside his light brown hair and looked up. The sun was bright and high, showing it was about midday. The seas were calm, and the sky was clear except for a few cirrus cloud wisps high, high, above. He smelled the sea air, felt the warm sun, and relaxed in his light brown shorts. He heard about people working years of their lives to get a moment of bliss like this, and he felt a bit of schadenfreude for them. What they considered a break, a vacation, he considered his life. Everything was beautiful, peaceful, and perfect. Thud, came a noise from belowdeck, causing him to come out of his self induced reverie. He looked about, listened, and realized it came from the ship itself. Quietly, he picked up a harpoon, put the broken net down, and moved through the door that led to the galley, the head, the hold, and his bunk. Of course, that didn't mean there were no problems, especially if other people were involved. |

With a second push, the lid of a wooden barrel popped loose and fell to the floor with a thud. His face grimaced as the lid hit the floor, both hoping it wasn't loud enough to alarm anyone and cursing himself for being stupid enough to let the lid fall. The swaying indicated the ship had taken to sea and the lack of guards was atleast a good sign for his physical health. The barrel was one of many things that filled the hold. There were some nets and other fishinggear stacked op against the ships hull, along with several provisions. The clothes he wore were tattered and dirty, if one could even call them clothes anymore. The shackled trip from Chaon to Imythess and the treatment he got during it, had worn their durabillity out to the bare minimum. A few sacks of grain stacked up on eachother made for a somewhat comfortable seat while he checked his wounds. Although the cuts were minor, the bruising on his ribcage had taken on a deep purple color. A chuckle escaped him as he looked it over and thought off how it matched the color of his eyes. A screak of a wooden floorboard drew his attention away from his bruising. The cargohold had one hall that led to the other chambers and the ships deck. Something about the sound had him spooked, it wasn't the ships hull setting by waves pushing against it, this came from inside the ship. Ra'zi gently lifted himself up from his seat, making as little sound as he could. With two steps he was behind the sacks of grain, it would make as bad a hiding spot as any within the room. With caution he used regular intervals to look at the door, waiting for whoever would come and find him. |

No one was in the living quarters. He checked every corner of those limited spaces, and there laid no on in wait. That left the hold. The hold, by magical enhancement, was far larger than the physical dimensions of his ship would allow. Goby was still getting used to it, but if someone decided to stow away aboard the various provisions and barrels in there, they'd start having mental issues from the impossible dimensions presented. Maybe the harpoon wouldn't be the best tool for the task. He put it beside the door to the hold, just in case, and opened the door. "Hello?" he called out, looking amongst the various sacks, barrels and drydocking structures that ended up in the hold. "Ah know yoo're here. Ah'm not gonna hurt yoo, but yoo'd probably be happier coming updeck. Ah'll have some fish cookin' soon!" |

When the door opened Ra'zi duck down, not sure what to expect of the person that came into the hold. They wouldn't know he came from Choer and he sure as hell would not tell them, but a stow-away was a great offence on some ships. Ra'zi heared a male voice call out, saying that he was not going to be harmed and even the offer of food entered his ears. "How do I know you're not tricking me? For all I know I get killed the moment I step out?' he shouted back. Even if the hold was larger then Ra'zi could phanthom, his voice would have surely given off a general direction of where he was hidden. Once more he looked over the edge of his hiding place, spotting a young, tanned sailor near the door, almost surprised Ra'zi stood up. If the crew of the ship meant him harm, they surely would not have send a kid to look around for unwanted passangers. |

"Look," Goby said to the sudden voice, raising his empty hands beside his head. "Ah won't hurt yoo if yoo don't hurt me, all right? Ah understand if yoo needed to get away, and Ah won't rat yoo out, but yoo really don't wanna be down here." He stood stoically in the doorway, watching for whatever movement might come to light. "Ah'm headed to Taras next. If yoo don't mind a bit of work, we can call everything even and yoo can debark safe and sound, alright? But Ah need to know yoo aren't out to kill me in mah sleep." |

It took a moment to let the words sink in. Since the sailor knew he was there it was no use hiding anymore, that was a given. Even if he were to stay here, there could always be more men coming down to get him. They would make it impossible to disembark the ship when it docked. "I think we have ourselves a deal then. I'll help out on the ship and in return you get me safely to Taras right?" Ra'zi pushed himself to his feet with the help of his arms, an almost silent growl following the use of too much force on the bruised ribs side. He walked a few steps toward the sailor, still somewhat weary of the young man. "My name is Ra'zi... and I wouldn't mind some of that fish you spoke about" he said as a smile formed on his face." |

Goby grinned at the black haired man. He seemed to be walking with hurt side, but it didn't shock him that sitting in a cramp barrel might put some strain on you. "Ah'm Goby. Goby Vega. Nice to meet yoo, Ra'zi," He stepped to the side, keeping between the door and the harpoon resting beside it. "Ah'll need to see if Ah've caught any, but Ah can get yoo some water to drink and we can relax updeck?" The hold opened up to a short flight of stairs that led into the galley and living quarters. The table and benches against the wall would look crammed in for someone used to landbased house planning, but Goby thought the whole area was fairly spacious. Once Ra'zi was clear of the hold, Goby would close the door behind the stowaway and head over to one of two stills set up on the counter, the larger one with a thick rim of salt on it. He filled a cup with the water that dripped from it and held it out him with a smile. "Ain't cold, but it's fresh. Ah distilled it myself." |

Ra'zi followed Goby up the stairs and immediately his sense of space came closing in on him. The rough size of the cargohold wasn't at all corresponding with the somewhat cramped feeling he got when he got to the living quarters. The living quarters were not even able to hold the minimum crew needed to sail a ship with a hold so spacious. "Uhm, whats going on with this ship? It's proportions do not match, they do not at all" Ra'zi asked Goby, a puzzled look stuck on his face. Meanwhile he took the cup of distilled water from his hands, and a word of thanks could barely escape from his mouth before he took a few good gulps of water. "Thanks", the words came out louder this time, "I needed that". |

"Welcome," Goby said. "And that's why Ah wanted us out of the hold. It's..." He rubbed the back of his head, trying to find the words for it. "It's enchanted to be bigger than it should be inside it." He refilled Ra'zi's glass and replaced the pitcher. "Starts messin' with yoor head if yoo stay in there too long." "C'mon updeck!" Goby said, nearly skipping toward another set of narrow stairs leading even higher. He pushed open the door at the top, leading Ra'zi into the bright light of day. Goby blinked a bit as he adjusted from the dim lights below to the intensity of the sunshine. The deck itself was a small ship, a single mast with its sail furled and ropes left to sway slightly in their tethered places. All around them, stretching in a dome from horizon to unbroken horizon, was the blue sky, accented by a few clouds here and there. In the distance, the hazy sight of a few islands hinted at land, but otherwise the two were alone with the waves and a few seafaring birds cawing above. Goby sprinted across the wooden deck in his bare feet toward one of the rods tied to the railing. It bobbed and bent toward the ocean below. "Got one!" He said, reaching down and pulling at the line. "Woo, It's a fighter! Give me a hand, Razzy?" |

"lucky I was hiding in a barrel then, didn't see much of the hold from there" Ra'zi replied to Goby's explanation of the enchanted cargo hold. He took some final deep gulps of the water before putting his glass back on the counter. Hesitantly he followed Goby up the stairs, still somewhat unsure what to expect from him. As Goby pushed the door open at the top an array of sunlight came shining down the stairs, causing Ra'zi to raise his left arm infront of his eyes. A futile attempt to keep some of his sight, it took him a moment to adjust, slowly walking up the stairs untill he felt a refreshing breeze run through his hair. He stood still a few steps from the door they came through, looking around and taking in the new scenery. The size of the ship became clear to him now he saw it from the outside, this would be manageable by one person. It most likely was. He walked around the deck a little while Goby checked on the fishingrods, enjoying the smell of the sea and the freedom it brought after the wooden barrel. A shout from Goby made him hurry over to the other side. Ra'zi placed one foot against the hull of the ship, the other one remained on the deck itself, giving him more grip. He grabbed the fishingrod with both hands, "Tell me what to do Goby" he said, having no real experience with seafishing it was best if Goby were to take the lead. |

Goby laughed. "Just pull! Ah already set the hook. Now we gotta tire him out and pull him in! He's a fighter!" Goby pulled back on the rod. With Ra'zi's strength added in, they could soon see the shimmering scales of the hooked fish as it struggled to flee. "Almost there," Goby said, focusing to keep his mind from the delicious things he could do with that fish and a bit of salt and lemon. A darker shape rose from the ocean depths. White, eye like spots focused on the caught fish, a mouth lined with pointed teeth opened, closed around it, and began to descend back into the deep. Before the pole could be ripped from their hands, Goby had a small knife out and cut the line, allowing the orca to leave with its prize, but not his fishing line. Goby stared over the railing in silence for a bit, then gave an apologetic smile to Ra'zi. "Whelp, Ah hope that hook doesn't give him tummy problems," Goby said, smiling with an embarrassed look. "There's always dangers with fishing, and one of them is other critters being too smart by half." He spread out a hand, his three middle fingers together and his thumb and pinky splayed outward, and shifted his hand from side to waving side like a seagull in flight. "That critter usually travels in groups, and they're not the sort to try harpoon fishing around." He watched as one breeched the water a few hundred yards away, spouting water from its blowhole into the sky, creating an arcing rainbow. "And since they seem to realize this is a good place to get some easy eats, we might have a better chance going closer to shore. "Mind waiting a bit longer for a meal, Razzy?" Goby asked, moving over to one of the mast's ropes and began to tug, unfurling the sail and turning it to catch the gentle wind that blew. "If not, ah still have some fruit, and ah was boiling some potatoes to eat, and there's always dried fish." He did feel sorry he couldn't get his newest passenger something fresh, but if he'd been in that barrel as long as Goby suspected, he probably wanted something now. Hunger would spice up anything he offered, after all. |

The sense of satisfaction that rose from within as the fish became visable on the surface, quickly crumbled when the large predator fish snatched it away infront of him. "well, I for one hope it chokes on the bloody hook" he replied quasi-sarcasticly, "Guess it's part of the game" A smile appearing on his face when a rainbow briefly formed above the orca, there was atleast some beauty to it. Ra'zi quickly ran down the stairs when Goby told him about the food and emerged shortly after with two apples in hand. He threw one to Goby with a flick of his right arm. "This will do perfectly for now" he said, right before he bit into the fruit. The sail had fully extended by the time he came back on deck, gently moving in the wind as it pushed the ship forward at a leisurely pace. "So, Goby, are you.. not wondering why I'm on your ship. I mean, not that I don't like the way things are now, but it wasn't the treatment I was expecting." |

"Well," Goby said, tossing the apple between his hands as he finished tweaking the sail to his satisfaction, "Ah figure everyone's got a right to keep themselves to themselves, so if yoo wanna share, Ah'll listen, but Ah won't pry if you wanna keep quiet about yoorself. The fact yoo were cramped in a barrel for what had to be at least a day, though, kinda narrows down what might have happened." Goby took a bite out of the top of the apple, leaning against the railing as he chewed. He swallowed, enjoying the sweet juice, then continued. "Yoo had to be hiding. Ah dunno from who or what, but yoo either hid not knowing yoor hiding spot was gonna get moved, or yoo hid in it hoping yoo would get moved to a ship, and mebbe hoped to hide from the crew until yoo could run out again. "That isn't a good plan, the last one, by the way. Yoo don't know what sorta ship you'd end up on unless yoo get really familiar with a shipyard. Yoo could've ended up on some ship going out for months, or a military ship, or even a slaver ship. Yoo can guess how they'd all react to a stowaway. "Not sayin' yoo wouldn't be tossed overboard if yoo tried to attack me," Goby pointed out. "Ah watched yoo and waited to see if yoo were gonna be hostile. Not gonna hold your grumpiness when we first talked against yoo. Ah wouldn't be in the best mood if Ah'm stuck in a barrel all day. But if you play nice, Ah'm willing to play nice, too. "Ah, also, Razzy, just so yoo know, the head is down the stairs and the first door on yoor left. Stuck in a barrel all day, yoo probably have some 'business' to do. If yoo did it in the barrel, though, Ah'd like to know now so Ah can toss it overboard." He kept eating his apple, top down, and turned his gaze toward the small island dots he aimed his ship at. "Either way, welcome aboard The Midnight Star, Mr. Razzy. Ah'd appreciate if yoo asked next time, though." |

Ra'zi listened as Goby gave his own deduction as to how he ended up on his ship. Goby hit the nail right on the head with one of the options though, making Ra'zi grin sheepishly. "Well, stupid as it may be, the later was kind of the way it went. Looking back it might not be one of my brightest plans. It worked out well in the end though, i'll shove that one to luck I guess" "I had a, unfortunate, run in with the guards a while back. They took me for a spy where I was just a merchant returning from business." There was no way in hell he would tell the truth and his ability to lie was no question of luck, but a skill honed and mastered. "You can leave the barrel downstairs" he said with laughter escaping his lips. He headed downstairs none the less, being out of the barrel and relaxing his body a bit made it somewhat urgent business. When he came up he took stand next to Goby. "We heading to those isles now?" |

"Yep," Goby said. "It'll be too shallow for the orcas, but plenty deep for plenty of other fish, not to mention the islands around here have a lot of different plants, too." They approached the island at a quick clip, and Goby scrambled over the ropes and rigging as they got near to slow and turn the ship, anchoring them in the shallow harbor. "There we go! Now we can just swim across...oh," Goby stopped, his excitement declining as he looked at Ra'zi with a frown. "Oh, um, Ah forgot. Do yoo know how to swim? If not, Ah can set up a bridge so yoo can walk ashore." |
