This adventure was one that Rimmon had been waiting for, for quite some time now. She had met with somebody a couple of days ago that told her about this Temple of the Moon. With her growing connection with the moon, Rimmon wanted to find this place and discover what it had in store for her. She had just finished training in beginner's level Burning Fist, and figured she was ready to explore on her own for a while.

She allowed her Balefire Jackal, named Swift, to travel beside her. Rimmon didn't dare shapechange into anything for any reason, since it was still early on in her pregnancy. She wanted to take the best care of herself, but at the same time, she was too restless to not do any training. She'd only stop once it became too difficult to move with a huge belly.

The sky darkened from day to night within a couple minutes, and right away, she knew she must be close to the Temple. Swift was much more comfortable in the dark, and his body seemed to shift, as if his image was coupled by its own defensive magic. Its body never remained in one spot, with its movements shaky and broken. It didn't seem like the kind of creature that one could trust, but Swift would put his life ahead of Rimmon's to make sure she was safe from harm.

She neared the docks, where the Temple's ferry was supposed to arrive. She looked up, the full moon shining brightly through the strips of clouds that surrounded it. She waited a few more minutes, and the small ship arrived, like a promise being proven. She stepped aboard, Swift close behind her, and patiently waited until they arrived at the temple.

Her darkvision allowed her to see perfectly around her. It was actually easier for her to see at night as opposed to during the day, thanks to the majority of her life being spent either underground or in Balefire. She was at a point now that the sun stung her eyes on bright days.

Upon arrival, she stepped onto the temple's island and breathed in deeply. Physically, she felt like she belonged here. Mentally, however, she was a stranger to the Moonsea, and hoped that she'd be more welcome. Short, light purple flames that danced around her body and light purple rings in her eyes revealed that she was indeed a Lunar Disciple. She already trained for a while by herself, but she needed somebody's help in order to harness the abilities.

She waited as patiently as she could until she saw somebody else at the docks. She noticed the dormitory building nearest her, as well as what seemed to be an outdoor training area. In the distance on top of a steep slope, she could see the Temple's main building. She pretty much stared at it until any sort of sound or nearby movement caught her attention.

Firaliel was in Istan, though she wasn't doing anything in particular, and she was planning to leave the city within the next few days. She was just leaving the tavern when someone approached her and handed her a letter. She immediately guessed what it was based on the black envelope and crescent moon seal. Someone had either reached the Temple of the Moon or spoken with one of her contacts about the Temple[1].

Fira opened the letter, which told her that one of her contacts had spoken with a woman about the Temple. By his estimation, this woman was already a Lunar Disciple and was looking for training for the more advanced abilities. He'd also mentioned that he had not told her that she could signal the ferry using the Blood Moon ability. This meant that Fira had a couple days to get there before the Full Moon arrived and the scheduled ferry would go between the mainland and the Temple's island.

It would have taken Fira a few days to cross the distance between Istan and the Temple, but Fira had placed her Shadowdancer's mark in her room within the inner building, which allowed her to travel there instantly. She decided that it would be best to go directly to the Temple and give herself some time to prepare.

Firaliel checked out of the inn and then stepped into the building's shadow. Within the shadow, she was able to feel the mark she'd placed in the Temple and mentally reach for it. Within a few seconds, she was standing inside her personal room within the Temple. Once there, she spent some time meditating and practicing a few of the abilities, thinking about how she would teach them.

When the full moon arrived, Fira walked to a lookout point in time to watch the ship returning to the Temple, with a new person aboard. Fira stayed at that point as the ship landed, allowing the woman to get onto the island and look around a bit before she greeted her. It wouldn't do to make it that obvious that Fira had known she was coming.

Fira walked over to the woman as she was standing, looking up at the Temple main building. Fira noticed that she had her Lunar Corona active, which meant that she obviously had already learned some of the basics of what a Lunar Disciple was. What Fira didn't know was exactly where she was at. Fira didn't make any attempt to remain hidden as she walked over to the woman, but her foodsteps were completely silent as she walked, a combination of efficient, practiced steps, and the ability of her Gloomwood leather to stifle any sounds that might be produced.

When Fira reached the woman, she asked, "What's your name and what brings you here?"

Fira knew the answer to the second question, but she asked anyways. Fira wanted to see how the woman would respond.
[1] I mention that Fira's in Istan, but that doesn't mean that the letter originated from the city, in case that isn't obvious.

She looked down from the main building and looked at her immediate surroundings again as she noticed movement in the corner of her eye. Rimmon looked over at the woman approaching, and deactivated her lunar corona. Upon hearing the woman speak, she took one step forward and answered with a fearless voice. "My name is Rimmon. I've wanted to explore my lunar abilities for quite some time, but didn't know where to go until now. I would like to be your student, and become a master Lunar Disciple like you." she bowed politely, and then straightened herself once more.

"May I know my teacher's name? Or how I may address you?" she asked with an even tone. Even though she thought she had heard this woman's name once before, she couldn't recall what it was at the present moment. Besides, a friendly reminder never did anyone harm...?

Swift, the balefire jackal that stood proudly beside Rimmon, seemed to keep a close eye on the woman. It was still hard to tell what his expression was though because of his shifting image, but the way he held himself was enough to tell that he'd attack if the woman dared to harm Rimmon. She placed a hand on his head, somehow understanding the jackal enough to know where his head actually was, and immediately he no longer protected shifting images of himself. He looked up at her, not sure what to do now. "It's ok, Swift, relax." Rimmon quietly spoke to him, "I have a feeling we're gonna be here for a while."

She turned her attention back to the woman, patiently listening for her words and otherwise not moving or showing any aggression. She couldn't afford to be in a dangerous situation. At least, not for another few months.

As Firaliel expected, the woman gave her name and said that her purpose for coming to the Temple was to be trained. She wanted to become a master Lunar Disciple, which was an objective that Fira definitely could relate to since it hadn't been that much time since Fira had mastered the Lunar Disciple abilities herself.

Firaliel didn't respond until after Rimmon asked for her name. She then said, "I am Firaliel, and you may address me by my name. We don't use unnecessary titles here." One of the things Firaliel had changed when she'd arrived at the Temple was to stop the use of titles. She associated titles with nobles and other people who considered themselves important and used titles to make themselves sound better.

Fira didn't miss the creature at Rimmon's side, and she could see by its demeanor that it had every intention of protecting its mistress if she was attacked. Fira had an understanding of the creature's desire to protect Rimmon, since Fira had her own animal companions that would attack anyone who tried to attack her. Fira's feline companions were not present, but she was thinking about bringing at least one to the island during the next few days.

Fira could see that the woman was intentionally making sure to not show any aggression, but she could tell that this was probably not an attempt to hide her true intentions. It was more like she was a bit uncomfortable and wanted to make sure that she wouldn't be attacked. Fira said, "Yes, you can expect to be here for a while. I should welcome you to the Temple of the Moon. We do have some rules here, but nothing too difficult to follow. Don't attack people or steal their stuff. You're also expected to keep your pet under control. Anyways, enough of that. You'll need a place to sleep. Follow me."

Fira led Rim to the main building of the Temple and down into the basement where the sleeping quarters were located. She'd demonstrated that she was capable of using the Lunar Corona ability, which meant that she was a Lunar Disciple and therefore should live in the main building of the Temple. Fira didn't turn on any of the magical lights when leading her below ground, an indirect method to test her ability to see in the dark.

Once Fira showed Rim her room, she asked her whether she wanted to start training right away or wait until she'd had a chance to rest. If Rim decided to get started right away, Fira led her back to the surface and into the main building of the Temple. If she wanted to wait, Fira told her that they would meet in a half day (12 hours) at the entrance to the main building.

Regardless of Rim's decision, once they were both inside the building, Fira said, "You've demonstrated your ability to manifest your Lunar Corona and to see in the dark[1]. Now it's time to see if you can do a bit more with your Lunar Corona." Fira activated a magical shield around herself. She knew that magical shields didn't hold up very well against that ability, but it was enough to block one strike. "Activate your Lunar Corona, and using only the Corona, hit my magical shield."
[1] I'm assuming that since you have level 3 purchased, Rim has all of the abilities through level 3, including the level 2 darkvision ability, and that Fira just needs to see where she's at.

Rimmon allowed a smile to spread across her face as she was relieved to hear that they didn't use titles here. That made her feel much, much better. She was sure that it was going to be really nice just addressing her by her name instead of 'mistress' or 'master' or other such titles.

She nodded to show her understanding of the rules. They were indeed not difficult at all to follow. After all, she would completely agree that those rules were reasonable. She followed Firaliel, and watched as her surroundings changed during the walk. She even continued to look around once they were underground, showing her comfort in the darkness. Swift had calmed down at this point, happily following Rimmon. He even had a small bounce in his step.

Rimmon requested that they begin the next day, since her journey to get here was fairly long. She was ready for a good night's rest. She was a bit surprised when Fira wanted to see where she was at with her Lunar Corona. She wasn't so sure if attacks were the greatest idea when first starting. "I've never tried that before, so I apologize if it goes horribly wrong."

She proceeded to activate her Lunar Corona, and concentrated on the footlong tendrils of flames that now surrounded her body. She moved her arms slowly, as if using twisting gestures to order the flames to her will, and once she had a couple tendrils reaching forward, she made a sudden punch in the air, and sent the tendrils at the magical shield, whipping it a couple of times. Once done, Rimmon deactivated the Corona and stood a little bit taller. Perhaps her practices with fire were coming in handy in different ways now. "How was that?" she wondered, not sure if it was a good thing or not.

OOC: Rimmon also has Ebony Eyes which means she can see through all types of darkness, magical or non magical even without the Lunar Disciple abilities. So now with the Lunar Disciple abilities, she can basically see perfectly in the dark, and she always prefers darkness over sunlight because she has such sensitivity to light.

Firaliel could see that Rim was surprised by the technique that she was asked to do, and she mentioned that she hadn't tried that technique before. Despite her apology, Fira saw her do the technique correctly. She noticed the movements that aided her in doing the technique, which were not necessary to do it correctly. Fira could feel that the shield was significantly drained, and she turned it off once Rim deactivated her Corona.

"I've never seen that ability triggered with a punch, although what you did was not wrong. I should mention, though, that it isn't a spell. Once you have the Corona active, you don't need to take the time to gather the energy. Just extend it at a target. Right now, though, let's see if you can defend yourself." Fira walked to a chest in the corner of the room, opened it, and picked up a practice blade. She wasn't particularly skilled with that type of weapon, but it would work for training. "Reactivate your Corona and use it to block my strike. It won't block the strike entirely, but it should be enough to keep you from being hurt."

Once Rim reactivated her Corona, Fira swung the blade at Rim at a downward angle so that it would hit her in the shoulder. The strike was hard enough that the full impact would be somewhat painful, but not enough to cause serious injury. Fira was one to swing practice weapons at a student, but she didn't want to injure her, so she would keep the strikes relatively gentle until she got a better feel for Rim's ability.

Rimmon was obviously uncomfortable with this training method. She was beginning to think she should share the fact that she was carrying a child. Although she was still very early in the pregnancy and you couldn't tell that she was actually pregnant, she was still nervous about the baby's health. She didn't know if fighting was a good idea or not; especially when she was already so tired.

"Defend myself with the Corona?" her facial expression said it all for how confused she was. Despite this, she still reactivated her corona. Knowing it wasn't an actual spell, all she did was concentrate on the Corona itself and what she wanted it to do. However, when Fira raised the blade, she couldn't stop herself from casting the Gravity Anchor on the practice weapon. "Lojesu!" she faced her palms up at the weapon as she spoke, and it immediately fell to the floor. She had used that spell many times for several reasons, but never actually on a weapon before.

Her heart was racing. "Sorry." she deactivated her Corona again. The weapon had fallen right between them and wouldn't budge no matter how hard either of them tried. It would remain like that for about an hour. "I just... I should tell you..." she had never thought she'd have to say this to anyone, so she was nervous about actually hearing herself say it. "I'm..." she looked at Fira, guessing she would be outraged to hear this. Rimmon took a deep breath, and finally said "I'm pregnant... so... I don't know if I can do this... I mean, I don't know if I should be fighting like this."

She held her breath, worried about what she'd say. She hoped she wasn't wasting Fira's time, and that she could still help her train. She couldn't hold her breath for very long though, she was tired and needed rest. The gravity anchor took a lot more energy out of her than usual and was the most she could do for tonight. "So do you mind if I rest for a few hours?"

Firaliel noticed that her student was surprised and confused by her instruction to defend herself with her Lunar Corona. This was something that she would need to learn to do, so Fira continued with the exercise anyways, although she knew that her opponent might not be ready. The worst thing that could happen was that her opponent would take a hit, and Fira was capable of healing injuries.

What ended up happening was not surprising but not what was expected. Firaliel felt the practice weapon become heavy in her hands as she swung it. She instantly recognized the effects of Gravity Anchor and released her hold on the weapon. At the same time, she took a step back to keep the weapon from hitting her toes. She made no attempt to pick up the practice weapon, knowing that she would not be able to pick it up until an hour had passed.

She was about to give a reply to what had happened, but Rimmon right away said she was sorry. Fira could tell that she had more to say, so she kept silent to let her student get it out. Apparently, the woman was pregnant. Fira had very little experience with such things, though she'd seen a few pregnant women before. What she did know was that the child growing within its mother would take energy from its mother's body, which tended to weaken her, though this could manifest in different ways.

Fira replied, "That was a good demonstration of Gravity Anchor, but that wasn't what I was asking for. Still, you did well. For future training, I should be able to tone things down a bit, but it'll be hard for me to teach that particular ability without swinging something at you or throwing something at you. I can also mention that if you're hurt, I can heal injuries with magic. If you need to rest for a bit, you may do so, but if at all possible, I want to see you back here in two to three hours."

While Rimmon was away, Fira thought about the issue some more. Although Fira felt that Rim or her child wouldn't be harmed by the training, Rim was a bit uncomfortable with the nature of the training, specifically with practice swords being swung at her. After considering this for a bit, Fira took a pair of the practice swords out of the chest and jogged down to the island's tailor, a novice Lunar Disciple who also knew her way around a needle and thread. She explained the problem, and within an hour, the practice swords were covered with thick layers of cloth. This would reduce the effects of a hit, though it would still be possible to hurt someone with them.

When Fira's student returned, Fira was back in the main building, holding one of the padded training swords. She said, "The padding on this should help keep you from being hurt. I'll also hold back a bit more on the strength behind the strike. Once again, you'll need to activate your Lunar Corona. Tell me when you're ready."

When (if) Rim said that she was ready, Fira swung the padded practice weapon at her. The strike was fairly slow and didn't have a lot of force behind it, making the chances of injury minimal, even if Rim failed to block the strike with her Lunar Corona.

Rimmon was happy to hear that Firaliel was able to heal injuries if needed. That definitely helped her feel more comfortable with training. She left for about three hours, taking a power-nap, and when she returned she appeared to have more energy and was more alert. She still would have liked a few more hours of sleep, but she wanted to be the best student and train as hard as she could without harming the babies.

She went back to the main building, and found Fira with a padded training sword. Immediately, she was more comfortable with training in this fashion, and activated her Lunar Corona upon request. She took a deep breath in, and released it slowly, saying, "Ok, I'm ready."

She concentrated on her Lunar Corona as Fira swung the weapon, trying to move the tendrils of light in such a way that many of them covered the side Fira was pretending to attack. She could feel the weapon hitting her Corona, and watched as her corona somewhat wrapped itself around the practice weapon, slowing it down. Of course though, doing it this way made her opposite side vulnerable.

((OOC: sorry for the short reply, it'll be much better as we keep going. its been a year since we worked on this lol))

Rimmon returned to the building a few hours later. Fira could tell that she'd had some rest, and that she could use more. Fira knew, though, that regardless of how successful Rim was at this ability, there was only so many times she could attempt it in a day before burning out the power in her Lunar Corona.

Fira saw that Rim successfully blocked the strike with her Corona, and Fira pulled back the weapon before it actually made contact with her. She also saw that Rim over-committed herself, sacrificing the defense on her other side. Fira brought the training weapon over to tap her student to show, rather than tell her. Fira's movement was slow enough, however, that Rim had a fairly good chance to react. If Rim successfully deflected this attack, the next one came just that much faster, with Fira continuing to strike until Rim either failed to deflect one or used a method other than her Corona to block the sword.

Fira's intent was to get Rim to not only learn the power, but also to begin to learn to use it effectively. If she could learn to deflect a full-speed attack, she would be about halfway there. The rest would probably be beyond the scope of the current training.

Fira was starting to realize that training a woman while she was pregnant might get rather complicated. She would have to allow more breaks and not train her as hard as she preferred. This would extend the time needed for her to complete her training, but the extra time would be required for Rim to properly master her abilities.

After Fira had pointed it out to her, she made sure to not sacrifice her defense on her opposite side from what was being 'attacked'. However, it took her a while longer to figure out how to effectively deflect the attacks. Once she had it figured out though, she moved on to bigger things like how to move the Corona around her properly, without sacrificing anything.

It wasn't long before Rimmon missed a strike and failed to block the attack with her Corona. She was starting to feel more comfortable with the Corona, learning how it moved and how she could control it. When Fira sped up the attacks, Rimmon was able to keep up for the most part. She tried not to move her body much, since she was relying on her Corona to move instead. There were a couple times that she accidentally used her arms to block the attack, but quickly reminded herself to only use her Corona.

It would be a couple hours before she began to really understand how to move her Corona to deflect the current way that Fira was attacking. She learned her movements, and tried to predict which way she'd move next by reading her rhythm and intervals in which she'd accelerate her speed or strengthen the swing. Of course there would be times that her prediction was wrong and she ended up failing to deflect it, but each time that she made a mistake, she immediately learned from it. She wasn't quite able to deflect a full-speed attack yet when she needed another break.

"Sorry, I guess I'm just not as prepared for this as I thought. But just a few moments to sit will be just fine, if you don't mind." she didn't take into account that her pregnancy was taking a lot of energy out of her.

Rim seemed to be picking this up fairly quickly, though of course it did all take time. This particular ability was one that took a day or two to learn but years to master. Fira herself still felt that she had room to improve on it, especially from the perspective of using it in combat. Rim wasn't yet at the point of being able to deflect full-speed attacks, but she would get there.

After training for a while, Rim asked to take another break. It was closing in on dinner time, which was a natural break time. Normally, Fira was one to push that extra hour of training out of her students, but she saw that Rim needed a good break. She said, "Dinner time will be in an hour. Why don't we just call it a day and continue the training tomorrow?" Fira softened her voice a bit and said, "I normally would be one to push you to keep going, but I have no experience with pregnancy. I'm going to have to trust you to let me know when you need to stop."

Over the next few days, depending on how quickly Rim learned, Fira taught Rim to be able to react quickly to attacks. After the first couple days or so, once she could deflect a full-speed weapon, she shifted focus to encourage use of standard blocks in addition to the Lunar Corona. Fira also taught Rim to use the offensive side of this ability, which allowed the use of the Corona to actually hit things. Once Rim was able to use both sides of the ability in a basic sparring match (Rim was given some weapon choices, or the option for both of them to fight unarmed).

Rimmon was happy to hear they'd call it a day and continue the training the next day. "Yes, that sounds good. And normally I'd enjoy to keep going, but it is very different and exhausting being pregnant. I can't imagine what it'll be like later on. I'll only be letting you know when I need to stop when I absolutely need a break, you have my word. I came here to train with my abilities more and that's what I intend to do, no matter how long it takes."

She made the most of her breaks by resting her feet and having a snack each time with a drink of water. She wanted to have minimal breaks but at the same time she knew she had to take care of herself. During training, she always paid her best attention and put her best foot forward. She learned from mistakes instantly, and learned the techniques quickly by copying motions and taking advice. She would always take a dagger as her weapon of choice but would sometimes choose to go unarmed, given the choice.

Firaliel could see that Rim was being completely honest when she said that she was here to train. She did not want to sell herself short by being lazy and taking extra breaks, so she would do her best, though right now her best was not quite what it had been previously.

Fira decided after a while that it was time for Rim to learn something new. One morning, shortly after they'd had breakfast, Firaliel took Rim to the outdoor training ground and directed her to stand near the edge of a pool that was about ten feet deep and filled with water up to about two feet below the level of the surrounding ground. It had stairs for entry and exit, but otherwise, the walls were vertical.

Fira said, "Now it's time for you to learn one of the more useful abilities you will learn here. To be specific, the ability to walk on nothing but air. You haven't previously figured out this ability, have you?"

If Rim hadn't previously learned the Feathered Steps ability, Fira said, "The trick to this one is to manipulate the gravity pulling you down so that it's far less than usual. If you do it right, you'll be able to literally step off the ledge over the pool and not fall into the water. To show you what it's supposed to feel like, I will use my own power to temporarily gift you the ability. After that, you'll need to learn on your own." With that, Fira touched Rimmon, gifting her the ability to walk on air for a few minutes. Fira then gestured for her to walk over the pool.

Rimmon was excited to move on to something new. She always put every effort into learning and mastering each skill as they talked and practiced, but changing the activity was always interesting for her. When she found out that it was the ability to walk on air, she smiled and said "Actually, yes. I have figured that one out. I'm not confident enough with it to go flying around in the sky, but I can do it close to the ground."

Still, she walked up to the top of the pool and showed off that she could walk about a foot above the water level. She walked back and forth a couple times without falling into the water, but with the second time that she walked back toward the stairs, she was almost touching the water as if her energy had depleted. It could also just be lack of practice. "I've never done it for much longer than a couple minutes so," she stepped back onto the stairs as she contrinued "I can do it in short bursts at least. Learning to last longer in the air would be useful, for sure."
