| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

"Well," Shan said, stirring the pot a bit before searching for his honey pot in his bag, "I figured we could warm up a bit while breakfast is cooking, get limbered up and review the fighting stances we did yesterday. "After that, if you feel ready, we can either practice your singing with my counter spell enchantment, or we can try to see if you can enchant yourself by convincing yourself you're better than what you think." |

Chasm nodded, "Alright I think I remember the stances. Though I didn't know people could enchant themselves how is that possible? Well I guess you will tell me when you show me how. I could use a little more confidence I guess?" She looked entirely unsure about the entire thing. Still she got up when he did and did her best to get limbered up and do the fighting stances. In her distraction as she thought about things her instincts came out making her warm ups a little more provocative than necessary. Still if pointed out she quickly pulled back blushing. She was sort of looking forward to self enchanting, but at the same time very nervous. This could be a way to tell her instincts to tone it down a bit. Enchant her self to be more controlled maybe.... well she would find out what was involved soon enough.[/color] Edited by Chasm Zelith, Sat Apr 26, 2014 6:45 pm.

Shan blushed but said nothing as the stretches and movements meant to get the body ready for more strenuous activities made Chasm look quite a bit more...alluring. From everything she'd said and he'd seen of her, appearing sultry was likely something as natural to her as breathing. Pointing it out would only embarrass her and make her more self conscious. She already acted nervous about attempting to channel her magic on herself. "If you want," Shan said, picking up his violin, "I can give you a taste of how it feels. It will always be stronger when you inspire yourself. After all, you have a better idea what motivates you, but this should give you an idea of what I mean." He began to play. The music was a simple jib, upbeat and happy, but infused with a little something more that should touch upon Chasm. "Now, then," Shan said. "Attack me again." ...

When he talked about giving her a taste she was unsure about it, but he was the teacher so she said, "Okay I guess" She also did not know what to expect when he told her to attack him. He knew she was still not very good at this, but she decided to anyways. To her surprise her punch seemed to come much easier as if the music was guiding her or giving her a glimpse of what she was really capable of. It did not matter if her strike was a success she was already clearly excited, just by the improvement through Shan's song. It was an amazing feeling and she now really wanted to learn this ability. "Oh wow! That... that was ammazing I still don't entirely know how that was done, but it felt like the music was guiding me. And I can do that to myself and it will be stronger.... wow just wow!" She looked up eagerly waiting for her next instruction. If she was told to try the ability for herself, but she would probably get to excited and mess up some where. The magic sort of just flying away instead of being focused in one area. Shan would probably have to resist a little of the magic as it was laced with her own natural enchantment, but it was quite weak compared to before or at least until she had realized she had messed up. She fell silent, but not before her natural enchantment became noticeably stronger. It actually hinted that her own confidence or emotional state was having a direct control over how much of her natural magic leaked out. Edited by redfiver, Sat Apr 26, 2014 7:45 pm.

Shan defended, but the violin occupying both his hands caused him to change tactics. Instead of the usual punches and arm blocks, Shan used kicks and raised legs, even blocking with the back of his violin at times when he couldn't dodge the higher strikes. He watched the excitement in her eyes as she felt the magic settle upon her, pushing her to move faster and strike harder than she thought she could previously. "Alright, take over!" Shan said, ceasing his playing with a wide grin. "You got this!" She got quite a few strikes in on his arms and side, though not because of her sudden skill, but because of her siren magic spilling out and over her song, dazzling him again. Again, he kept silent. She'd be able to tell without his saying anything he'd been partially enthralled, she was so smart and beautiful and amazing and- Snap out of it! his common sense screamed. Right! Right. She realized what effect her song had before long, and ceased singing, the last few notes hitting Shan the hardest. He stood there, swaying slightly, with a slightly glazed look in his eye. "So...yes....ahhh...." he said, his mind rolling in circles as other parts of his mind tried to get it back on track. His awareness picked up on a splattering sizzle sound behind him. Hey! his common sense shouted, latching onto the distraction. Your oatmeal! "Whuh...." Shan said, then turned toward the fire, where the pot's contents were boiling over and splattering onto the flame. "Ahh! My oatmeal!" He dashed over and stirred to try and settle the concoction, though they'd lost nearly half of it in the fire. "Oops..." Shan said, and sighed. "Well, I can try to get some fruit or something, too, since...um...Want some breakfast?" he asked, pouring half of the surviving oatmeal into a bowl for her. "I have honey to sweeten it, too...." There still laid a hint of star-strucken affection in his eyes, and he stared half lidded at her for a few seconds too long before shaking his head and trying to fight it off again. |

She felt terrible realizing she had lost control again. Was she actually going to learn to control this or was she going to be forever cursed. "Ummm... thanks and do not look at me like that please. Oh please go back to heing normal again. I should probably just leave I only cause problems." She poked at the poridge tacking only one bite, but mi stly looking likecshe had lost her appitite. In thruth she had lost it to self hate. She was a monster. |

Shan shook his head again, her commands helping to sweep out the last cobwebs. "Oh, sorry again," he said. "Wow, you never have to worry about anyone attacking you. I can't see even the most cutthroat killer touching you if you tell them not to." Chasm, however, didn't seem to see her abilities as the ultimate defense, if her sullen forced eating was to judge. Shan used his gathering spell to get some spring berries and a few young edible plant shoots, which he split with Chasm, but his mind was turning over what happened. Chasm, the edited version of his internal monologue concluded, still hadn't managed to control her natural siren song, and he didn't expect her to succeed, not after a day. However, her song when she began, while it did affect him, only whispered into his mind, influencing but not commanding. Only when she realized what effect her voice had on Shan did it smack him hard in the face, right when she began to panic before she ceased... "I have an idea," Shan said, his own meal nearly finished, almost in total silence, as he ruminated through the council of his thoughts. He summoned some more water into to pot to let it soak beside the campfire, stood up, and brushed himself off. "If you'll indulge me, I'd like to try something, Chasm." He raised his hand, his violin suddenly there, though there was no memory of him retrieving it for observers. "I want you to try singing again, trying to focus your magic inward, just like you were doing before. Don't worry about sparring or anything. Just...whatever you were meditating on before, do that again, and I'll test my theory." He expected her to begin to protest, to share her fears and worries about ensnaring him again, so he began to play a soft tune, more a series of arpeggios set to a beat, as she ran though her internal litany of excuses. "Chasm," Shan said, smiling. "Don't worry. You can do it, and you know it. You have no reason to be afraid, right? "Now, let's hear you sing again." ...

Chasm imediately did as Shawn expected, "No I can't I would just mess it up again and this time I might truely make you mindless. I do not even know what I did before ..... I can not do that... I just .... I can't." Shawn started playingcand tryingvto encourage her and with the music she seemed to come around. "You are sure it will be alright? Well alright I guess I can once more....." She started to sign, she was clearrly still nervous, but the courage was giving her strength to try. She focused on herself, but as usual the magic rolled out in all directions. It started off with medium strength enchantment. Something between the confidence of earlier and strong blast he had felt near the end of her last try. If Shawn manged to resist and continue to encourage her she would gain some confidence and the magic weakened. If he showed signs of being affected it hurt her confidence making the haunting enchanment of her voice stronger. She would stop if it became clear he was fully enchanted and probably run away yelling sorry behond her. In her mind it sould be best to just never see him again then risk him becoming a slave to her magic. She could not let that happen to one of her few friends in this world. She gave in and sang again, his magic, he saw, giving her inner strength to try once more, and her magic, unfortunately, continued to slip through the cracks, though not as strong as when they first met. She glanced toward him. He could see her fighting off the courage with her own worry and justified fears. She's worried she'll hurt you again, his empathy noted. It wasn't as though the enchantment hurt, but he understood well the moral boundary she didn't wish to cross. He shut his eyes. With Owlcifer, the clouded look in his eyes was the last thing to fade, and he knew his were growing unfocused as they gazed upon Chasm's soft, graceful form....he wondered if he could just stop and watch her sing a bit, watch her shift and breathe and- Keep playing, his inner trickster said, pulling at his mind to convince him to simultaneously go with the plan and work with the ensnaring netting in his mind. She's singing with your music, right? She'd be sad if you stopped. He didn't want to make her sad! He kept playing, enjoying the sounds of her song mixed with his music, the courage continuing to flow on its own now that it had a chance to start. He swayed gently in time with the music, smiling a bit at the sounds they created together. Now talk to her, but in a strong voice. She'll like that. his trickster continued, working to trick himself. Tell her she's doing well and to keep at it. "Just like that," he said aloud, working to keep the languid passivity away. "You're doing great, Chasm." Please let her fears ebb, his second thoughts said, crossing its mental fingers. It is growing weaker, but she has to stop fearing it. |

Chasm found the experience very strange. Shan seemed to be resisting in some way. Was his plan working? He seemed like part of his mind was drifting, but he was also showing signs of free will..... the mixed reactions were confusing. Was his plan working Iin some strange way.... well it certainly was not cc the usual effect. Maybr it was working no it had to be working...... His encouragement helped bolster her courage a bit more. Her enchantment was weakening and soon enough was the weakest it haf ever been. Shan just had to hold on for a few more minites and her enchantment would stop. It woild only be for a brief moment. The break woukd occur roughly once every five tocten minutes after that and the general enchantment stayed low in power. It was clearcshe would need much more practice and probably a lot more base coffidence beford she could supress it fully. Still it was a start. Chasm coukd only see the reaction in Shan so he had to make it clear that his e periment worked in some way. |

Slowly, softly, he felt the infatuation lifting, giving him back more and more of his free will, though, his actions stayed the same. He was a musician, and he accompanied another musician. Likely, that role was the reason he could hide his condition as much as he had. However, now, a good quarter hour after they'd started, Shan opened his eyes. "I think it's working quite well," he said, nodding his head. "Your magic is at its strongest when your frightened or worried, which is good if, for example, you're getting attacked. However, if you're relaxed, if you're confident, and if you focus on reining it it....well, it's not entirely gone, but it's just a bit more enchanting than your voice alone is, in my opinion." He motioned for her to stop, and ceased playing. "I'm guessing we'll need a lot more practice, but we might have a way of muffling it now. Great job." He walked forward and raised his hand, leaving it there a moment before electing to pat her on the shoulder. Smacking each others palms in celebration was popular in Balefire, but he didn't know if it'd traveled off the streets yet. |

Chasm felt the hand of Shan on her shoulder and looked at him. He was not a zombie to her voice. He had resisted and it had lasted so long. She blinked a little realizing she was crying in joy. She could not stop her self as she got up throwing her arms around him into a tight hug that could almost be classified as a tackle. It was entirely possible that she knocked him to the ground and landed on top of him. She kissed him on the cheek several times in her excitement. "Oh my god that was amazing and you are not a zombie and THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!...... ACK! " She quicky released him realizing she was invading his space and getting dangerously close to other things. She woikd probably start appologizing to him again unless he stoped her. Chasm cried, but her smile and the enthusiastic assault of an embrace showed her fears were gone, or at least abated now that he'd proved to her she could sing, she could perform without fear of enslaving a townful of listeners. He couldn't help but laugh and hug her back, caught up in her enthusiasm and joy, though he wished she'd shout her happiness a little farther from his ears, or at least at a lower volume. "ACK!" She finished, stopping the hugs which, Shan suddenly realized, were starting to become more than hugs, and began telling him she was sorry. "It's okay, it's okay!" Shan said, sitting back up and spreading his hands. "This is a major breakthrough...probably one of the biggest ones in you life, considering your age, which, considering your age, isn't a long time...Anyhow, hugs are fine, don't worry, even chaste kisses, considering how exciting it is that you succeeded. "And, hey, you even stopped yourself when things, um, were getting a bit more heated, so see? Great control all around. We just keep practicing, and not turning people into zombies with your voice will be second nature!" He spread out his arms, inviting her to another hug, trusting her. Come on, you can't say you're not at least half hoping she pushes you into something more...I know I am, said his Id. |

She stopped trying to appologize and looked at Shan as he spoke. She had slightly blush from the comliments and coild not believe how kind Shan was. When he offered the hug she moved forward slowly. Hee movements might remind a person of a nervous kitten. She finally rapped hed amrs around him in a hug and kissed him gently on the cheek. A quite thank you leaving her lips as she stepped back again. This was some how much more chase, bit also more sensual then anything in the last hug. As she parted she found her heart beating much fastercthan ever before. It took her mind a few moments to realize she was becoming attracted to Shan in more than just a physical way. No she could not do that he had a woman.... actually why did people have to keep to pairs and he had even said he was not sure if she was a girlfriend..... no she should not think that way. Still the questions were floating in her mind now and after a few moments she reached a decission. "Umm... Shawn....I think I am becoming atrracted to you and more than just physical..... you are the nicest of guys and talnted....but you have another.... I can't go between that, but I am becoming tempted to......I .... I am not sure what to do...oh I do wish people could just be happy with those they liked instead of all this offically paired off social rules......ugh what am I talking about..... yes what I need to do is meet this Vivi person. Please take me to meet her and maybe if I know her I can resist beter or at least talk it out with her. Maybe you can get some answers too." The darker slightly jealous part of her also wanted to meet this girl to apraise a possible rival. Still despite being confused it was clear she had made a decision. She probably would not have ever considered saying any of this if it had not been for the boost to her confidencecand pride. Still her confidence was still delicate and Shawn waz not careful it could shater completely ruinong any progress they had made. |

"Ah, that could be a bit of a problem..." Shan said, rubbing his arm. "Not....not saying I won't introduce you two or anything, but..." He sighed. He didn't think it was a good idea overall to have two powerful women, both infatuated with him, meet each other. It could end in so many ugly ways, but it'd be better if he made the introductions and moderated rather than, say, Chasm seeking Vivi out on her own, finding her, and confessing her attraction to Shan without some mediation. "You see, I don't really know where she lives..." he confessed. "I mean, I know where, but the specific location is a bit...hazy." He took a deep breath. "You see, she's a sort of nature witch who lives in Norwood Forest. She grew up there with a hedge witch and now lives with all these animal friends she has. I'm sure she has an actual house or cabin somewhere, but it'd be pretty deep in the forest, and..." He stopped, scratching his forearm absentmindedly. He'd heard the stories floating around, the rumors, the accusations, even a few bounty posters that he'd torn down when no one looked. The feared "Witch of Norwood" haunted the forest, waylaying travelers, killing hunters, even shutting down major roadways for weeks on end. There were more stories that grew with each telling, making the Witch more and more a monster and less and less the shy, soft woman with a stutter he felt certain the Witch truly was. "And...I'm not sure if I'll be able to find her," he confessed, digging at the ground with his toe. "She seems to be in some sort of trouble, and she might be in hiding. It's...it's part of why I'm playing around Norwood to start with. I'm hoping she'll hear me play and...I don't know. Find me. I mean, I realize it's not the fastest way, but I'm not really a tracker, and I don't want to endanger her by uncovering her hiding spot...if she's hiding, I mean..." |
