| Welcome to Imythess, the border between dreams and reality. We hope you enjoy your visit. Imythess is a creative writing board where you narrate the story of a character in the medieval land of Imythess, on the planet Chaon. Each topic is an opportunity for your character to interact with the world and its peoples by cooperatively writing pieces of a story with other members, one post at a time. We call this role-playing, because you assume the identity of your character as if it were your own. In order to play, you must register an account for each character you would like to write about, and begin their tale by filling out their basic profile information: Race (human, elf, demon, etc.), class (warrior, mage, etc.), physical appearance, and any other personal details you would like to describe. You are also encouraged to come up with some background history information for what your character's life has been like up to the point at which their story in Imythess begins. There is no approval process or application required to join, so long as you follow the rules then you are free to write whatever character details you choose. Registration is simple, fast, and completely free. Create a character now! If you're already a member, you can log into your account below: |

OOC: Yes given her current form of manifesting her power it should counter it. Chasm was a little nervous, but decided to give it a try and tried to sing. This time she sang a song from her memories. It was elvish and brought in the sounds off the forest and timeless years with it. It was a joyful sort of music. She tried not to think of her ancestor who had learned it. She had stollen the creators life after stealing this song to draw in more victims. It felt odd as she could almost feel the counter song in some odd instinctual way. Such sense had been important for her ancestors survival they had to know when to flee as magic users who had pierced their disguise were threats Still it was hard to figure out what part of her was causing what. Still she tired the best to feel out her magic. She had an intense look of concentration much like a child's face could be when learning something new for the first time. Shan was probably Able to sense more than she was. The magic of her voice was being blocked, but it was just the primary vector. Magic flowed from all her actions and mixed into the magic of her voice. Much like many small instruments being combined into am orchestra. Still the song guided it all and if she could just know how to form the notes correctly the magic might just flow along the paths she chose. Also with the counter Wong going he could probably sense her real skill at singing with out the bias of being charmed. It took maybe ten minutes for her to finish the first song. "um... How was that? I could not grasp a lot, but it felt different in a lot of ways. Even with the counter song a little charm might get through, but nothing more than an attraction normal for being with a lovely woman alone. |

"I think we're getting somewhere..." Shan said, ceasing his playing reopening his left eye. The countersong appeared to work against her innate seduction magic, the gentle, near invisible notes from his violin meeting and collapsing the oddly darker tones of her magic. During those ten minutes, his world narrowed to that of magic and music, and it felt more like one in the pleasantness of it. "I think all you truly needed was more familiarity with your own abilities. Evolutionarily speaking, if that applies to demons, it'd make sense for your 'siren song' to be active at your birth. A newborn demon would survive longer if they can simply sing their attackers into submission. It'd just take time and experience for you to learn to control it. "And when you reached this part," Shan said, picking up his violin and playing again. This time, however, the sound wasn't that of a fiddle, but of Chasm's own voice singing a portion of her song, though it lacked magic of any sort. "I think you started feeling where the more magical qualities of your voice are coming from, since it's where it looked as though you were experimenting. And when you reached here..." He played again, Chasm's voice singing through his violin about two thirds of the way through the performance. "The magical mana of your voice changed. It flowed in a more controlled pattern, and looked a lot lighter, much closer to the kind of mana I produced. "We're not at the point where you can turn it off yet," He said, but grinned. "But it looks like you've learned enough about yourself to regain control. So, feel like testing that control out?" He waited for her reply, certain it'd be a yes, and tucked his violin under his arm. "Alright, then, I think the first test of controlling your power is to try using it on...yourself. A muse doesn't just inspire other people with their music. They first learn to inspire themselves. "So, tell me, what sort of thing do you think you aren't good at?" Used Melodic Secret Echo to recreate Chasm's voice. |

Chasm felt amazing having finished a song and no one had been affected. She almost felt like jumping up and giving Shan a kiss, but she held back as she knew many people took this the wrong way even if it was jut on a cheek. He was such a kind man too. He comforted her over her own worries and even explained how her curse could be considered a natural defense of sorts. This made it seem a bit better, but not by much. She listened carefully to what he said and tried to remember that parts he mentioned. It took a bit, but she thought she knew the parts he was talking about. The first had been a section she had tried to match to Shan's song even though most of that try hadn't worked part she guessed had. She hadn't felt anything either. The second part he pointed out had simply been a difficult part of the song. She didn't think she could figure out what caused the change in her song there yet. When he asked about trying out her control she looked nervous again. "I...I don't know......... but if you think I can I will try." He then asked her a difficult question. "Um.... well I am not really good at anything really. I know I can be good at performing or using a sword, but those skills are not my own. I suppose I also know about the arcane, but again that knowledge was just sort of thrust into me. I am not particularly strong or fast and I don't have any really trade skills.......I guess I don't really know." She was nervous the entire time and she clearly had almost no confidence in her own abilities or strengths. Deep down her hatred of her own ancestors made her reject any real strength she had. She hid this very well when needed and her ancestral memory made this easy as she could just fall back on those memories. Still she never could feel as if they were her own. In some way she felt like she could open up to Shan a bit. She couldn't have even opened up to her father about this as she had been sure he just wouldn't understand such concerns. He always just felt skills were skills regardless of how you learned or in his case stole them. Still it was clear she had a strong will at least as she had rejected her entire family history and was trying to forge a completely new path. She wasn't a coward by any means, just someone who needed some guidance. Edited by Chasm Zelith, Sun Feb 16, 2014 8:29 pm.

"Oh," Shan said. She looked and sounded so uncertain of herself, fearful of what she could do and lacking confidence as well since none of her abilities were things she earned. She was born with them, the knowledge borrowed. She looked, acted, and effectively was an adult, but when it came to experience, she was a child. "Well, then," Shan said with a smirk as he placed his violin back in its case. "I know this works best, or at least the results show more easily if it's something physical, but I'm not really skilled with swords." He rolled his shoulders and neck. "So I guess the first step is to teach you a bit of martial arts. "Not a lot," Shan assured her. "Just the basics, and the one I know is a defensive style, more meant to turn attacks around on the person trying to hit you. The point of this next exercise, then, once you're an official beginner in unarmed fighting, is to use your music on yourself. Done correctly, you'll magically become better at it. Better than me." He chuckled. "Of course, I'm not that great to begin with, but it's still a startling improvement. Willing to learn?" |

Chasm was confused at how martial arte woupd help her abilitiescor music, but she decided anything was worth a shot. His smirk had lightened the mood a bit and even got a smile out of her again. She pushed her other thoughts in to the back of her mind for now. "Ummm.... alright if you think it will help." Chasm then did her best to follow shan's instructions.. It was sort of nice lesrning something new. She did have some faint ancestralv memories of unarmed combat, but it was not like what Shan was teaching her. Plus faint memories were hard to believe se as actual skills. If this were notvtrue she would be a masterbof countless skills, as her ancestors had practiced a little of almost everything between them. Still learning something for herself was nice and she probably got a little over excited at points making progress slow. Still she could probably get the basics down within a reasonable time frame. Shan did his best to instruct Chasm, though what he taught were the basics he began to master: how to stand, where to move your feet, how to watch for and break your opponent's stance, how to shift momentum to your advantage. Mostly, for this lesson, it was about proper punching and kicking. The rest was stated theory about how these building blocks would fit into a fight. "Alright, I think you're getting it," Shan said, pleased. "Granted, it'll take more practice to really get it down so your body does it on its own, but you see how it works, right? "Before we move on to the next step, though" he continued, "did you want to take a break? We've been working pretty hard, and we don't want you too winded to sing." |

Chasm did her best to follow what Shan showed her and she did feel excited about learning something new. She was actually pretty bad at it. Still Shawn encouraged her and she managed to make it through. At the end he asked if she wanted to take a break and she nodded eagerly. She didn't seem to sweat like humans, but she was exceedingly tired. Even if it had been short she was still tired. "Huph huph yesss a rest would be wonderful." She sank back almost falling into Shan, but managing to pull her self back. She fell into a setting position breathing hard her hair slightly mussed in a way that only seemed to actuate her innocent look. From her reaction it was clear she had very little physical stamina. It was actually a reason she didn't currently carry a sword. All the ones she had found were simply to heavy for her slim arms to wield properly or at least wield for very long. What she didn't say was she was starting to feel some urges again. Another problem with her was she kept desiring to get close to others by instinct, but she didn't dare or it might ruin her new friendship. Plus if she wasn't careful those instincts made her go a lot farther than just leaning on a person's shoulder. She still didn't have a balance for such feelings, but hopefully getting control of her song was the first step to controlling all her various problems. She smiled at Shan and almost considered warning him about her own thoughts, but she couldn't help fear that it might scare him away. It was a ridiculous fear, but all she could do was smile at him and thank him again, "Huph ... thanks again by the way. You really don't know what all this help means to me." |

"Hey, I'm your teacher," Shan grinned as he began gathering debris and fallen twigs from their surrounding area. "It's my job to care about the wellbeing of my students, right?" He set about creating and starting a small fire, whispering a spark spell for the initial ignition. He fed and tended it carefully, graduating the initial smouldering ember with leaves, then twigs, then finally thin, fallen branches. He didn't bother making it too large, just enough to give a cheery warmth and heat up the pot he pulled from his pack and filled with conjured water. "I'll admit I'm a bit worried that it won't work and I'll get twitterpated again," he chuckled. "And if that happens, don't feel guilty, alright? You're learning, and at least your charming just one person who understands and not a townful." He patted the ground near the fire, inviting her to relax there if she hadn't already. He reached into his pack again, retrieving a small tin that, when opened, released the aromatic fumes of dried tea leaves. Another search retrieved two tin mugs, a bit dented but clean. "Afraid I left the fine china at home," Shan tried to joke. He sat in silence a bit, listening to the forest around him. Silent wings brought Owlcifer down from the branches where he settled on Shan's shoulder and hooted happily at Chasm, a possible twinkle of enchantment still left in his eyes. "So, um, this might be an awkward question," Shan began, tapping the knees of his crossed legs. "But...Well, this might be a horrible stereotype, and I get most of my information from tales and such, but...demon's aren't really known for being...nice, to put it bluntly. What happened to make you like you and not, well, like someone who could use their magic to enthrall a city and live like a queen or something?" |

Chasm actually did not know what to say. She listened and nodded while she tried to calm down her desires. Shan was not making it easy though. He was kind and understanding. He did notbhate her for her heritage. All this kindness m as de her like him more and her heart beat a little faster as heburged hrr not to feelbguilt about acidents. No she had to stay in control .... right? When he patted the ground near the fire sheb moved over. She intended to sit on th oposite side of the flames, but some how she ended up only a foot away from him. When he made his joke she let out a musicsl laugh. No enchantment of magic was on it. She also looked at him while she laughed. Her conflicting emotions were starting to show on her face as she felt more relaxed even by the simple joke. When he asked the question she paused a look of unplesant memories crosding her face. "Well I can't tell you every thing as some parts are a secret I prommissed to keep with my father. I suppose I should explain about demon births first. It can be done two ways. The first is as other races commonly reproduce just with higer chance of your kate killing you for the random reaeons. They c as n also pair with othervrsces like this. I was born by the second method. A deamon gathers energies and gives s small liece if themselves too. This spawns a new demon at newrly full power and forced to follow at least one command of their parrent. Usually this means slavery until thevpsrent is dead ir they can out wit them. However, this methode is rarelynused as it puts great stress on the parent and often lethal to both body and soul in the relms outside the hells. My 'mother', as I call him, was a slayer type deamon. He valued nothing but strength and power. Most of all he considered woman to be objects or....well worse. My father tricked this deamon and changed him into a woman with a strage magic fruit, but some how a mental bridge was formed preventng my father from hiding from his/ her rath. My 'mother' went a insane an slaughtered many innocents chasing my father. When she was defeated she cacked completely and tried to spawn another to kill my father. Before she finished she destroyed in the process. Though his her soul survived I think. My father managed to use the remains of the mental bridge and send a counter command to not harm or kill him. The bridge was not stable so it came out as "do no harm". I was in complete and the orders conflicted. The magics creating me took the new order as a priority and that became the basis for my personality I guess." She looked at Shawn wondering how he would react to all this. She felt both embaressed and nervous, but ifhe cmfirted her she suspected see she might try to kiss him. It was a horrible mix really either she would be misserable or she had to keep her stupd instincts in check and that was very hard. How could you hoth want and not want the same thing....ughh life was not fair. |

"Oh, wow, um..." Shan eloquently stated as the tea brewed. "I didn't know all that, though I think I've heard of that fruit and the issues of people not giving proper warning about its effects or labeling it right..." He didn't doubt that there were also pranks played, since the effects weren't supposed to be permanent. "You'd think a demon could just shift out of whatever the fruit did, but again, I don't know much about them. "Your dad seems like...and interesting man. Glad you and he get along, or at least it sounds like it." Shan poured the hot, tea seeped water into both tin cups, giving one to Chasm to sip. "So...good luck and happenstance make a good demon. Glad you didn't end up a slave to some slayer demon." He grinned, still not entirely understanding, but being a bard allowed him to practice quite a bit on grasping a story without understanding the full context. He decided it might be better to shift focus, since she appeared reluctant to share even what she did. "So, how are you feeling? If you're sore, it's best to get up and stretch and walk around a bit. Get your muscles to get the kink outs. Oh, I think I have some sugar cubes too, if you prefer your tea sweet. Sorry I don't have cream." He began to rummage again for the box of sugar, not bothering to look up unless she called him. |

Chasm wasn't quite sure what to say as Shan responded to her story. She didn't want to talk to much more about her father. He was a secretive being and she didn't want to risk anything she had built with him by saying something silly. It was a weird relationship really. Still she loved him despite all that. She wondered how her father's host Lamar was doing too. We he asked how she was feeling she blushed a little wondering if he had seen some of her desires or something. She quickly realized he hadn't meant this, but it was too late. She tried to cover herself. "Oh no I am doing fine. Umm.. .sweet is nice. I haven't liked bitter things too much, though I haven't tried a lot of things yet." She again cursed her own conflicting thoughts as they continued to war. She still held control for now. Hopefully they would settle down for the night soon and give her a chance to calm down. Of course at the same time she wanted to stay up and talk with the first person to not be completely enchanted by her since her father. |

He put a few sugar cubes in the hot tea and handed her the mug. Chasm blushed, stumbled over her words, kept giving him longing glances she tried to hide and, from what she shared of her heritage, was practically born to seek out sexual pleasures. And here he stumbled in, managing to keep his head afloat enough to not become the adoring thrall she found morally repugnant to take advantage of, offered to help her so she could sing without harming others, warning her he had a girlfriend so that tore at her morality again.... So this is just a hot mess, isn't it? his second thoughts sighed. Shan echoed the sigh aloud. "Sorry," he said, not certain what he was apologizing for as he worked out the words as he spoke them. "But...Vivi...I haven't seen her in awhile. She literally lives with wolves...and boars and bears and things in the forest. She's shy and scared of people, and the fact that she went into a human settlement to see me and even kiss me..." He blushed himself, remembering that last moment when she pushed the boundaries of her comfort in giving the quick, chaste kiss before fleeing back into the woods. "It's...it meant she's starting to trust humans again, even if it's just me. You are beautiful and, well, if I was single or knew I'm single I'd be shocked you'd want anything to do with me let alone, um..." Start again, gods. "I don't want to do anything to hurt that trust, you understand. Even if...if she never knew about it or learned about it and...it's not the sort of secret I want to keep from her." He sighed and stared down at his undrunk tea. "We should probably wait until later to continue, if that's alright with you. Start again in the morning and see what stuck." |

Chasm blushed so rsd even turning her head did not hide her embarrassment. "No no I am sorry I should have better control of my emotions. The urges are just so strong at times and you have been the nicest person.......yes sleep is probably a good idea. Also I will never d o anything to risk that trust you have earned with this Vivi. She really is a lucky girl and I hope I can tell her that some day. Do you think I could meet her some time.... it would be nice to have a female friend? Umm.... you know for get it." She then tried to burow her way unde a blanket to hid her burning red face. Of course she prohably looked pretty silly. Sill unless he said anything more she tried to just settle down and sleep. It tok hercalmost an hour to do so and could prohably be heard tossing and turning over as she tried to get comfortable and calm her instincts and most importantly sleep. She cursed the fact that people could not be more flexible about this sort of thing. It just had to be so complex embaressing and confusing. The next morning she was better and hopped she could stay in control today as well. Edited by Chasm Zelith, Thu Apr 10, 2014 12:32 am.

Shan thought about camping with Chasm in the woods, but decided she didn't need any more temptations than her heritage burdened her with, so he retreated a ways from her clearing to set up his own bedroll. He made up for it by waking at the crack of dawn - without company in his bedroll, thankfully - and returned to the clearing, where Chasm was already awake, looking calmer than she did yesterday evening. "Hi," Shan said, stoking last nights campfire back up. "Feeling awake? I can make us some breakfast if you haven't had any. Mostly just cooked oats, though, if that's alright." He began setting out his pots and spoons for his own meal. If she did want some, it wouldn't be a big hardship to double the serving cooked. |

Chasm smiled at Shan and responded, "Oh that sounds good. Please make some for me too. So umm what will you be teaching me today?" She was mainly curious and also excited about continuing her rraining.. She moved over and sat near where thee food was being cooked. She briefly wondered why he had step away last night, but she just could not think of an answer. Oh well maybe it was just a thing he did. Edited by redfiver, Wed Apr 23, 2014 9:24 pm.
